  1. Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but a problem I frequently run into in Affinity Designer is the following: I have an object (such as a rectangle), I make other objects children of this object so they will mask to its bounds, then I find I need to resize the bounds of the parent object. I realize that the intended behavior for resizing a parent element is to resize all of the children elements as if it were any other group. However, I was wondering if there is any method/modifier keys that might let me resize the parent object without modifying the children, just to adjust the bounds. Hopefully this question makes sense... if it isn't possible (which I would not be surprised if it isn't, as it's a rather strange request), is there another easy technique of masking I could use? My usual method is to create parent objects as masks, then just place the objects I wish to mask as children. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
  2. Good Evening Team, Right now I am trying to create a brand mark in Affinity Designer. I have my art board open and I have a simple brand mark in black placed on the art board against a white background. The brand mark has very crisp edges and I want to soften them, so I have added a heavy Gaussian blur to the brand mark layer. Here is the issue. - I want to use the threshold filter on the brand mark layer to round out the edges of the Gaussian blur effect. When I try to apply the threshold filter adjustment on the brand mark it doesn't change the sharpness of the image at all. - If I promote the threshold filter above the mark to a new layer I can change the sharpness... this is all great but shouldn't the filters affect the layers they are on? - Also, if I successfully apply this technique to a brand in black and white I am not able to change the color of the black mark to anything else. - I need to be able to apply these filters to weather and soften the brand mark and then convert the new mark to a path and fill object that can be manipulated on its own. Is there anyway to do this? Hopefully, the images I have attached show the step by step process I'm trying to use to achieve and where I get stuck. Thanks, Dave
  3. What if you had something like a "Parent Control". So if you had two Artboards and one had an element that is from the other. However, if you made an adjustment to the "Parent one" that had just a specific element. When you make an adjustment to the parent it automatically and real time adjusts in the same way the element in the "main" template. I hope this makes sense and is easy to understand. It's just an idea and wanted to share it. Thank you for having forums!!
  4. Issue / Task: Imagine you are creating a user interface or some other dynamic / modular design consisting of a variety of elements, sharing certain properties, such as color stroke width fx and many more Possible Applications: Creating dynamic, unified color palettes for multiple buttons, knobs, input fields etc. Changing global or semi-global stroke properties on the fly Re-using existing designs while applying new schemes for a new entry in the series swiftly Speeding up changes to large-scale projects in general Related Solutions: While Symbols allow for document-wide changes in properties within copies of the same object or shape, when working with a diverse range of shapes, groups and nestings can be tedious to impossible. Inheritances would speed up things considerably and add a whole range of possibilities. Implementation Suggestion: I would imagine the following workflow to be quite effective and straightforward, at least as far as my routine is concerned: Select and copy the source element Select the element to inherit a property Navigate to a window / tab with any property (such as color, stroke, fx etc.) Click the Inherit Button, a small, universal icon found in all studio tabs and windows. This property is now linked to the source element. Changing this specific property within the source element also affects this element. Click the Inherit Button again to unlink / disable the inheritance. Copying elements with an inheritance would preserve the inheritance for the copied element. I hope this makes reasonnable sense - of course I would be thrilled to find out something similar was already available in Affinity Designer. Cheers!
  5. Could we please have a keypress to select the parent of the currently selected object? This would allow for fast navigation within the Layers tree and adds a fine grained version of the Select All command, progressively expanding the current selection from a single object, up through the current group, layer, artboard, and document. Thanks for your consideration.
