  4. Hey guys, just want to gather some experiences from people who might be using this software as a substitute for Photoshop on the go digital painting wise...and an idea on if it's worth the investment or not. since the release of the iPad Pro version i have been constantly looking through sites and forums for peoples experiences and the usual outcome is critical praise along the lines of a great substitute for PS but usually based off of the perspective from someone who used it with editing photos and not so much with illustration & painting. Basically my Cintiq is down and much of my work has fallen onto the iPad pro i'm not too interested in Astropad and i do have Mediabang and Procreate but both are always lacking many functions i love from using Photoshop i love concept art, texturing, sprite-work and animating so i'd absolutely love anyone else's input on personal experiences before i make the jump. Thanks! :)
  5. Hey Everyone, Here is a timelapse video of me creating a watercolor still life painting in Affinity designer. I had a lot of fun playing with the different brushes and testing the different capabilities of the software. Enjoy! Here is the video from start to finish: https://youtu.be/y6l6-wOOf2A Let me know what you think? Thanks, Mike
  6. Hi Serif guys, what a great and powerful iPad app you've create, absolutely love it! I hope the picture could make my thoughts clear. When you do retouching work on iPad, Clone Tool/Healing Brush is a must tool, and you need to constantly change sampling points around the target area to avoid repeating patterns. Use the finger hold and wait few seconds, choosing sampling point, then raise your finger and put the Apple Pencil down back to the screen to retouch the target area is LOW-efficient and Inaccurate. Also, while using brush tool to paint local color, we need constantly sample certain color near the Pencil tip on canvas, that means Eyedropper-Brush Tool quick switching in a flash. In desktop environments, like Photoshop, the function key Option (Mac) / ALT (Windows) on the keyboard does the job perfectly -- press the function key, use wacom's pen tip to sample in tiny area on screen. We have Apple Pencil and iPad Pro now, but we don't have that Cintiq (or Intuos) experience yet. I just couldn't find an efficient method on iPad version Affinity Photo to switch between relative tools. So, can you consider adding a shortcut key on the screen? Make it a functional on-the-go retouching and painting tablet. Thanks!
  7. This is what I have experiment in Affinity Photo - The mix brush behave more like a smudge brush I would like to see a mixing functionality like "Paint tool sai" as a slider, mixing factor etc... in all brush check paint tool sai for reference is the best. - Add a clear layer option in layer persona every time I have to delete a layer and create a new one - Add clip layer option useful for painting under an specific shape or color block I will post more feedback while testing the app
  8. This is, probably, too much to ask for a program, that's 90% there. Painting is vastly different from photo manipulation. Combining both in one program is great, but while one paints, he doesn't usually need other non-related features and tools, But he needs all of the necessary tools right there, literally at the left finger tip. With this in mind, it'd be good to have a "painting persona" added to the top personas. Things nice to have in the toolbox (left menu): Marquee tool to move, re-size, rotate distort (drag corner anchors) Selection tools (I know, we have a whole sophisticated selection persona, but there needs to be some way to select a part of an image right there): rectangle, lasso quick selection brush magic wand Paint brushes: opaque (oil) transparent (watercolor) Retouch brushes dodge burn sponge (saturate/desaturate) blur sharpen Liquify brush (could be few) Eraser (+ erase to history) Show/hide mixing palette Show/hide reference image (see how ArtRage does it) Fav. brushes (your saved custom brushes). Choosing one automatically switch to the brush type it was assigned to (dodge for example). More - expose other custom brushes by moving all tools up. Bottom controls (sliders and switches). They have to be available without extra clicking and going to a submenus. This is like asking an artist to go to another room to pick another brush from the box every time he needs one. There is enough room horizontally. Brush size Brush opacity Flow Brush hardness Wet paint on/off Finger rejection on/off (optional, can be part of preferences) Show 100% Hide/show controls (full screen) This would make your app a dream for artists too, not just photographers!
  9. Having fun with the new Photo 1.6 beta and Blender texture painting workflow. Liking the new light UI in Photo too. I'm using the file path option in Blender's preferences (see screenshot) so it's a one click jump to Photo for painting. Then just save in Photo, jump back to Blender and click reload image. Boom, couldn't be easier. :-) Blender's internal texture painting is pretty good but not quite as dedicated yet as Photo is for this sort of stuff. EDIT: sorry for the yuge screenshots...
  10. Hey Guys, I just got Affinity Designer and Photo for my windows surface. Firstly, I'm not a professional, neither in Affinity nor Photoshop. What i want to do: I just want to make some easy sketches in AP, but it turned out to be quite "edgy". When i'm starting drawing with my stylus pen, its not a smooth line (using the brush tool), it's more like little pixel "steps" into the line. In PS i dont have this problem. I will attach some pictures to make it visible for you. I Hope someone is able to help me, maybe i have to do some settings first? The documents used, was 600 x 900 mm sized with a DPI of 300 (in AP) . It would be great getting out of this trouble, thank you! Cheers
  11. With the amount of awesome brushes being created for the community, it is becoming clear that the need to organize and separate out favourite brushes is the logical next step. Not sure how best to do this, and maybe just concentrating on the brushes panel for now, as opposed to an "app wide" solution might be the way to go. A simple "save as favourite" system would be a good start, eventually with the ability to move, group and reorganize in one panel or even multiple panels or panel sub structure for various workflows - texturing, blocking, detailing, dots etc....?
  12. I've been learning how to draw and besides drawing circles and lines, I was researching how to build environments. I couldn't think of anything better than drawing Fuji. Fuji(s), actually. This is my 4th attempt, using APhoto + Astropad Studio + iPPxPencil Loved to create stars via Noise filtered through Threshold, as well as blurring the fog. What do you think?
  13. Mad photo bash that turned into an 80's rock album cover or something. Becoming happy painting in Affinity Photo.
  14. Bit of painting practice here on the laptop while cooking.
  15. Hey again, it's been ages since I actually shared some of my work in this forum. Over the course of getting imagery for the tutorials, I've also produced some final pieces that I'm happy with. Recently I've been tackling tutorials for astrophotography/star image editing as well as light painting, so there have been a few late nights! My favourite so far is a light painting composite near my home: Rail Tracks by James Ritson, on Flickr Then a light painting of Rufford Abbey (although I think I narrowly avoided a run-in with security): Rufford Abbey by James Ritson, on Flickr Followed by another light painting composite underneath an old railway bridge. This one's a little scrappy and I'm not sure how I feel about it at the moment: Under The Bridge 01 by James Ritson, on Flickr Moving on, a combination of star photography and light painting at Rufford Lake: Rufford Lake 01 by James Ritson, on Flickr And then a shot of the night sky, which was achieved by stacking 50 images (shot at ISO 6400, 1s long each) and pushing the tones quite severely to produce a vibrant result: Still Sky 01 by James Ritson, on Flickr That's about it for now - some of the above imagery is used in the recent tutorials and I plan to hopefully produce some more videos in the future covering these areas of photography. There are a few more images on my 500px and Flickr accounts as well if you're interested! Thanks, James
  16. Hey guys! i coloured a doodle in Affinity photo using my wacom and thought it would be cool to share! You can have a look at the process here: http://www.behance.net/gallery/49651381/Acne Thank you! :D
  17. About an hour and a half. Daub brushes, shows how good Affinity is.
  18. I've tried trail version and I can't even make a soft airbrush like Photoshop which I think very importance for photo editing. I see a lot potential on this software do not ignore digital painting users. so many artists are rely on Photoshop so if you can mimic brush feature and responsiveness like Photoshop also with this price its really a game changer I see a lot of money $$.
  19. OK taking my first rough try in AP and polishing it up to a finished painting, mostly with Daub brushes. Not tackled the ship yet which will probably get extensive changes. AP more than up to the task though.
  20. \working for me nicely now and getting faster. Could do with a brush resize keystroke or mouse function though.
  21. Hey there! Here's a quick tutorial/demo on how to mix vector shapes and bitmap textures in Affinity Designer. Here I'm showing a simple but pretty useful technique I'm applying to almost all my vector artwork nowadays. FREE SAMPLE PACK! I'm also giving away a small sample of my recent brush pack for Affinity Designer called Texturizer Pro. With this sample pack you can have enough to play around and get an idea of what the full set is about. Click on the image below to download this FREE sample pack and watch the video tutorial! Hope you guys enjoy and find this useful!
  22. I've been looking at some development of a very impressive auto-fill filter for lineart on G'mic and thought it would be something the Affinity devs might be interested in. Basically, it analyses artwork with an algorithm to determine contours and shape closures which can then be filled as a base for painting. It speeds up a monotonous colour blocking step of painting. Not a priority feature at the moment, but I thought it would be an amazing addition for illustrators working with raster imagery. I'm sure affinity could simplify the tool even more for usability. I've posted two videos that demonstrate how it works. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-3aBQeuBc4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rl76PJZTuio
  23. It would be lovely if I could convert my brush presets into a format Affinity could recognize. I know the .abr format is supported, but it would be great if I could convert .tpl brush tool presets. I have bought some of Kyle's brush packs to match with scans of my artwork so I can work over them with natural results. As DAUB & .tpl carry a lot of similar attributes and brush textures, I figure some sort of converter would be possible. Even if it was just a quick and dirty external converter app, anything would do! Would love to hear your thoughts (I know other features are more of a priority at the moment). Also if anyone has had any success with converting .tpl brushes with their textures, etc in tact, I'd love to hear from you!
