Hi all, here's something very different from my usual and a bit of a personal challenge on a recent illustration project. Denman Digital in Vancouver hired me to create a series of images for a project they were doing for their client the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN) here in Canada. The Hunting in Canada Field Guide lays out the traditional methods, tools and prey Indigenous people used and continue to use to survive and thrive in Canada's northern frontiers. This project is a web companion piece to their Moosemeat and Marmalade adventure cooking show on APTN. https://aptn.ca/moosemeatandmarmalade/ Almost every aspect of these illustrations utilized the pixel persona in Designer. I could've use Photo exclusively for this but I am much more comfortable and familiar with Designer and the process is basically the same. I created a bunch of new custom brushes as well as used many of Designers default and user-contributed brushes for this. I was rather pleased with the final outcomes and have since started adding more of this pixel painting workflow to my usual work. Rather than upload a bunch of images here I'll point you to a few links on my Behance site below and leave just a few images here. The project was broken down into 3 areas: Prey, Hunting Tools and Hunting Strategies. https://www.behance.net/gallery/77640277/Hunting-in-Canada-Field-Guide-for-APTN-Prey https://www.behance.net/gallery/77647417/Hunting-in-Canada-Field-Guide-for-APTN-Tools https://www.behance.net/gallery/77647933/Hunting-in-Canada-Field-Guide-for-APTN-Strategies Much thanks to Denman Digital and APTN. :-)

Here is my first foray into Affinity Designer. I must say I was impressed with the capabilities of the raster side of the program.

affinity photo How to cheat at conserving an old painting!
Kasper-V posted a topic in Share your work
Empty space ... ... filled! Last week we paid a visit to Shugborough, Staffordshire, an eighteenth century house and former home of photographer Patrick Lichfield, owned by the National Trust. The Room of Imaginary Landscapes has several enormous paintings fitted to the walls depicting, well, imaginary landscapes. The paintings are being taken down for conservation and cleaning; they are well over two hundred years old, after all. One has been removed from its mount and is resting on a stand while it waits to be taken away, and I took the opportunity of photographing it ... which was easier said than done! At about ten feet by eight, and with only a small space to work in, I had to take three photos and stitch them, then do my best to restore the result to a straight-sided rectangle with the Mesh Warp Tool. Next I cleaned up the result by increasing the saturation and contrast and one or two little tweaks; if I had the patience, I might have done a lot more and fixed those water stains, for instance. Here's 'before' and 'after' ... And all that remained was to distort the finished image to fit the gap in the frame, using the Move Tool.- 7 replies

Started painting again after a long layoff. My Wacom Intuos 3 large died after many years of service. Trying to get used to my new tablet a Huion Inspiroy Q11K V2. https://www.amazon.co.uk/HUION-INSPIROY-Upgraded-Wireless-Battery-free/dp/B07G8SPXF5/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1541357979&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=huion+inspiroy+q11k+v2&psc=1 Seems more than up to the Wacom and very pleased, works well with AP. Sketch a bit rough but then I'm rusty.

Weekend fun character painting. Hope someone likes it. Really quite amazed at the versatility of the old classic smudge as a real painting tool.

Finished this to a satisfactory level. Painted on a budget HP laptop that cost me £350. A3 processor and 8GB RAM. Hat's off to the developers. Link to WIP:

Simply an oil portrait, without much editing. Photographed from the canvas, some contrast settings made with Affinity Photo, that's all. Looking forward to feedbacks TNX http://b-bertuleit.de/oil-painting/

Having fun with the new Photo 1.6 beta and Blender texture painting workflow. Liking the new light UI in Photo too. I'm using the file path option in Blender's preferences (see screenshot) so it's a one click jump to Photo for painting. Then just save in Photo, jump back to Blender and click reload image. Boom, couldn't be easier. :-) Blender's internal texture painting is pretty good but not quite as dedicated yet as Photo is for this sort of stuff. EDIT: sorry for the yuge screenshots...

I've been learning how to draw and besides drawing circles and lines, I was researching how to build environments. I couldn't think of anything better than drawing Fuji. Fuji(s), actually. This is my 4th attempt, using APhoto + Astropad Studio + iPPxPencil Loved to create stars via Noise filtered through Threshold, as well as blurring the fog. What do you think?

affinity photo Recent light painting/astrophotography work
James Ritson posted a topic in Share your work
Hey again, it's been ages since I actually shared some of my work in this forum. Over the course of getting imagery for the tutorials, I've also produced some final pieces that I'm happy with. Recently I've been tackling tutorials for astrophotography/star image editing as well as light painting, so there have been a few late nights! My favourite so far is a light painting composite near my home: Rail Tracks by James Ritson, on Flickr Then a light painting of Rufford Abbey (although I think I narrowly avoided a run-in with security): Rufford Abbey by James Ritson, on Flickr Followed by another light painting composite underneath an old railway bridge. This one's a little scrappy and I'm not sure how I feel about it at the moment: Under The Bridge 01 by James Ritson, on Flickr Moving on, a combination of star photography and light painting at Rufford Lake: Rufford Lake 01 by James Ritson, on Flickr And then a shot of the night sky, which was achieved by stacking 50 images (shot at ISO 6400, 1s long each) and pushing the tones quite severely to produce a vibrant result: Still Sky 01 by James Ritson, on Flickr That's about it for now - some of the above imagery is used in the recent tutorials and I plan to hopefully produce some more videos in the future covering these areas of photography. There are a few more images on my 500px and Flickr accounts as well if you're interested! Thanks, James -

Hi there, I played with some macro photography I shot a few days ago. Working with the brushes in Affinity Photo is a nice experience (the luminosity jitter it's really interesting). I've gotta say I bought Paolo Limoncelli's DAUB brushes, and they were worth it. Love them to bits, love AP too, though it still feels sluggish with large images on a 16 GB Macbook pro, which isn't that awesome. But nevertheless, pretty cool ! Somehow though I feel as if AD's pixel persona is better at digital painting than AP's. Probably because AP has no eyedropper tool. Also, the alt-click colorpicker doesn't feel great at all... needs some polishing. Anyways, bickering aside, here's what I managed to create. :) It's not really great, but I did learn some stuff doing it, since I didn't skip the initial "construction" phase of drawing lines and marking proportions. I'm trying to learn digital paiting for some time now, and somehow I've got problems because I always end up comparing myself with people who've been at it for years. It's stupid, but It's the only way I know how to scale, and because I think it helps me get better faster. The downside is that I always feel bad about what I do.
