  1. When I use the paint brush tool, I'll at times do quick successive strokes (particularly when sketching). When doing this on a tablet it sometimes detects this action as a double tap, stamping the brush shape and or texture to the full size of the brush (also ignoring pressure sensitivity) as though I just clicked my mouse button. I've not experienced this in any other digital art software I have used, and quite frankly I find it incredibly annoying having to either draw back over it or all the otherwise unnecessary undos. I find this to be a very bizarre feature to include as a default in a paint brush tool. I'm aware there may be a way to disable this, and I hope someone can tell me there is and how, but I for the life of me haven't been able to find a solution.
  2. In version 1 when I was using the brush I had three options: width of the brush, Flow of the colour and Hardness which made the selected colour stronger. In version 2 I seem not to have Hardness with the Paintbrush. The function is greyed out and set at 100%. The function is available with the Clone tool so I know that it is there somewhere. I have tried using the various brush options and wondered if somehow I had disabled the Hardness when using the Brush. I have probably missed the obvious so anyone with a clearer mind: thank you
  3. Hello! I'm not great at using forums, but I'm gonna give it a try: I use a 2019 Macbook Pro, running Ventura 13.2. It has a solid graphics card, as well as a solid processor. Lately, I have been having a strange issue on Affinity Designer since updating: All of it runs smoothly, EXCEPT for the brush tool. I can create/modify shapes and curves no problem. But any time I slide over to the Pixel Persona to use the paint brush the entire app all but freezes. Eventually it reflects the input I have made, but after nearly a minute of wait time, and very gradually; like, we're talking dial up types of patience/waiting. The video attached should hopefully get the idea across. If there is any pertinent info that I left out let me know, otherwise any insight would be appreciated. 4. I'm experiencing an issue specifically in Pixel Mode where, when I draw with the paint brush, the lines don't appear until I mouse over a particular section. I have attached a video (sorry for the quality) showing what happens in pixel mode compared to a basic program like Paint, where the lines show up instantly. I just tried the vector brush tool in Vector Mode and that seems to draw live, so it's only Pixel Mode where I'm experiencing this issue. The line I drew is there, but it doesn't appear until it's hovered over in some way. Does anyone have insight or a fix for this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated! IMG_3069.mp4
  5. Hi, I found a bug or a strange behavior when using the Paint Brush Tool in Pixel Persona in Affinity Designer on the Mac and on the iPad app. I found this behavior even in Affintiy Photo on the iPad so I am afraid it is a feature rather than a bug When using the Paint Brush Tool in Pixel Persona on a newly created pixel layer and there are no other pixel layers visible a strange behavior is showing: The first stroke is not showing until I stop drawing and hover over the areas that I have drawn on. With every stroke that I draw outside of the previously touched areas the drawing shows missing artifacts and I have to hover over or zoom a bit to make the drawn visible. A work-around for this behavior is to have a fully covered pixel layer under the new layer. Then the frist stroke on the new layer is shown instantly – as you like it as designer. I attach a video of that behavior and the afdesign-file. I use ADe 1.10.1 on a MacBookPro13,3 with macOS 11.6 and ADe 1.10.2 on an iPad Pro 10,5 with iOS 14.8. I like Affinity Designer a lot – it' a great app for my purposes – and I hope this bug gets to be fixed soon. Cheers! ADe-pixelbrush-bug.mov FipsMusica-test.afdesign
  6. When sampling a color with the paint brush tool by pressing the ALT key, always the global color as it can be seen on the screen is sampled. If there are brightening or darkening layers above the current layer, the sampled color is brightened or darkened once more, which ends up in a completely wrong color. The actual color picker tool has a source setting "Current layer" which samples the correct color. So either the paint brush tool should consider the color picker tool's source setting when sampling a color or it needs an own setting for sampling colors. There is a dark blue circle on the middle layer used as sampling source. The top layer has a brightening effect. The color for the lower dot on the right was sampled with the actual color picker tool with source set to "Current layer", the color is correct. The color for the upper dot was sampled with the paint brush tool's inbuilt color picker by pressing ALT: the color chosen is already brighter than it actually is and is then brightened once more.
  7. Hi, I was recently experimenting with making adjustments to my Paint Brush tool under the "more" tab next to the "hardness" selector. After unsuccessfully creating a new brush, I reset the options. Now the brush tool does absolutely nothing. Doesn't work in masks, doesn't work by simply trying to paint different colors. Ive triple checked everything, opacity is 100%, flow 100%, Hardness adjustments, etc etc. I even uninstalled and re-downloaded the program to find that the brush tool is still not working. I attached a screen shot of the Brush "More" tab opened to see if that helps. Anyone have any suggestions? Thank you!
  8. Currently the Paint Brush Menu lacks some features which would be very useful. The brush preview is very small. It needs an option to change size preview, show brush tip only, show brush stroke only, show brush stroke and tip. Brush name as tool tip is not a solution for this. Also, it is not possible currently (or I don't know how) to select multiple brushes at once. That makes it quite tedious to delete brushes.
  9. It occurs repeatedly, that the paint brush tool doesn't work. I can switch to the pixel tool - it works. Switching back to paint brush - it doesn't. The preview of the paint brush is still visible. The only solution at the moment: safe the document and reopen it again. Now the paint brush works (for a while). Thiss issue occured first time when I worked on a large image (7000x5000px)
  10. I'm not really sure how to describe this problem, and I haven't found a way to reproduce this problem consistently, but it's been plaguing me for the last 2 years (since I bought the program). I've tried searching for it, but it seems that no one else has been having this issue, or I don't know how to search for it. Today I finally decided to screen-capture it. Watch the upper left corner. The first half is me moving the paint brush tool over the invisible border, the second half is me painting over it. The brush was behaving fine beforehand, and restarting the program causes the invisible borders to disappear. They always look like alternating semicircles; there can be more than one string of them at a time; and they sometimes join together. You can paint normally until you reach the border and then the brush stops; you can paint on either side of the border unlike a mask. This is a plain pixel layer with no masks or filters set, using the default round brush at a low flow and low hardness (but the issue happens even at full opacity/flow) in Affinity Photo 1.8.5 but the issue goes back to at least 1.7. I've never had the problem happen immediately after opening a file, it always happens after I've been working for a while. 2020-08-24_145817.mp4
  11. I've suddenly developed a weird blue 'o' and 'x' joined by a red line when I use the paint brush (see picture) in Affinity Photo. It is not related to brush size or type. I'm on a Mac OS10.15.5. Anyone have any idea what's going on?
  12. Simple question. How does one change the colour of the lines drawn by the brush? The answer is probably obvious but I cannot see it.
  13. I've just swapped over from Procreate to Affinity due to Procreate not being vector based. I initially started designing a logo in Procreate until realising I needed to swap, but I'm unable to bring my brush with me. I've searched for days for a similar brush and cannot find anything! Any help would be massively helpful otherwise I'll have to start the logo again and re-jig the style I've attached 2 screenshots to show the brush. Thanks!
  14. 15. Hello there, I have been experiencing issues with my Paint Brush tool. I purchased Affinity Photo a couple months ago and installed it on both my iMac (late2015) and MacBook Pro (late2012). Everything has been working with no problem until last week when I opened a project on my iMac. I was trying to mask a layer, I press B and the Painting Brush was a SQUARE instead of a CIRCLE. It started acting weird. I don't know why. I don't have that issue on my MacBook. Everything works fine. I tried uninstalled it and installed it back and still had the same issue. Please help. I attached two pictures.
  16. Can anyone help me. I am a new user to the software but am experiencing some technical issues. I am running Affinity version 1.64.104 on Windows 10 fully updated. However a number of the tools on the left panel panel don't seem to be working in particular the selection brush tool. Additionally having paid for the Affinity photo for beginners course I have been following through on some of the exercises. I have been trying to use the paint brush painting in black to reveal colour having applied a black & white adjustment to a photo. Instead of revealing colour its painting/revealing light green instead of the base colour which is yellow, I have attached a screen shot. Apologies if this is a stupid query but I've tried everything thanks alan
  17. I often use the color picker to touch up my coloring and once I click on the Paint Brush, the color always switches to the other color... (the two circles under the Color tab) Having to constantly switch back to the color I just picked is obviously annoying and I don't understand why this happens. If I just picked a color I obviously want to use the one I just picked, not the one I had to use 5 minutes ago... How can I fix this?
  18. My trial of photo timed out and I can't buy it until payday so am trying to finish up my project in Designer. I found how to paint with a texture, but need a way to do it with a straight line. I've tried control, alt, and shift and none of those seemed to make it paint in a straight line. I'm putting it on a pixel layer and then masking it onto my vector layer and that part is working well to get rid of the "overpaint" areas. But this is a very long line I need to draw and I can't seem to paint it straight. thanks Sig
  19. First off, I am using astropad app on my ipad to mirror screen from my mac. I then use the apple pencil to interact with the mirrored screen. Just recently, AD crashes like mad when painting in draw persona with vector. This is the error report. The program crashes when I am vector painting (draw persona) on the iPad. I seem to be able to paint (pixel persona) just fine. What happens is that while vector painting, the whole app will crash. Most of the strokes are not saved, even if I saved just recently. It seems to reset to a previous save, but still preserves a few strokes. Not one particular stroke seems to set it off, it just happens all of a sudden. I can eventually get the vector strokes in, but only after a number of stoke/save/crash/reopen sequences. See attached file for the error report error report.rtf
  20. Do this: 1. Launch AP. 2. New document. 3. Choose the Paint Brush and a color. 4. >> Note it says: "The assistant has added a new raster layer" 5. Close without saving. 6. New document. 7. Choose the Flood Fill tool (paint bucket) and a color. 8. Click on the page. 9. >> NOTHING HAPPENS. It does not make logical sense to me why the Assistant would assist me in auto creating a pixel layer for the Paint Brush tool but refuse to create a pixel layer when I click the Flood Fill tool on the canvas. Can someone explain the logic to me? If there is no sound logic behind it, I am inclined to submit a new feature request. (Keep in mind I am comparing my experience to Photoshop, where I don't need an assistant to create a paintable layer because a paintable layer appears automatically in Photoshop.) Thanks.
  21. I can't paint on an adjustment layer with paint brush. To verify, I started a new project with one photo, and added a Black & White adjustment layer. If I select the paint brush tool, and set the color to black and attempt to paint out any part of the image with the adjustment layer selected, nothing happens (same with white). Adjustment layer is not inverted. Interestingly, if I use the flood fill tool, it behaves like the paint brush should, except it paints everything. I have tried this on several different images with the same result. I am on Affinity Photo 1.5.2, on a Mac on the current version of Sierra. I have looked at other similar posts which verify what I'm trying to do should work, but there must be something I'm missing. The photos I'm using are all pre-processed in Lightroom.
  22. In my Panorama I need to align several areas. I have watched the Tricky Panoramas video which uses the "Add to Source Image Mask Tool" I looked through the Customized tool panel and cannot find any tool with this name. Please advise.
  23. Hello, I've been using Affinity for a while now, and have liked it quite a lot. Photo bends quite well to digital painting (sometimes even better than PS) but today I noticed a tiny problem. When I use Paint Brush with a brush that has texture (I've included a picture), the brush cursor shows all the little holes in the brush too, which makes it a bit hard to see what I'm painting. Is there a way to reduce the cursor's visibility somehow? For example turning it into a crosshair permanently (for now crosshair works only when the brush is really small) or showing only the outline of the brush, not it's insides too? I've looked through the Preferences and the forums, but I haven't found a solution yet. Thanks!
  24. I created a image paint brush that is basically the text of the watermark I want to use on my images when I upload them online and I can't figure out how to change the colour. It seems like it is always in the colour black no matter what colour I have selected. It also doesn't seem to work... as in it's freezing constantly. I haven't been able to get one photo finished and all I'm doing is adding the watermark/ paint brush to it... no other editing is being done.
  25. the paint brush mode does not work - I have adjusted the opacity and pressure sensitivity, updated my IOS and reloaded the app - it still does not work
