  1. I would like you to make exporting Outline FX as a separate element possible. Some FX can be exported as a separate element such as Outer Glow or Outer Shadow. Outline can be done the same I think. So the object itself that has Outline FX won't be rasterized and it could be more useful.
  2. Hi, I want to turn a silhouette into an outline. I have managed to outline the silhouette using the QuickFX/Outline tool. Now I want to make the inside of the image transparent or cut it out so I am left with a white outline on transparent background. I have attached the image I am working on to help explain what I want to do. Thank you! /Annika
  3. When 'Maximum ink' is set to 320%, so it catches incorrectly converted RGB blacks, the preflight panel will flag any object with an 'Outline' layer effect as "Filter Effect ink density too high (327%)". This happens even if the outline effect is well under the 320% mark, as shown in the image below: Furthermore, disabling the outline effect will not stop the object being flagged. See below: You need to press the 'X' to remove the effect, so the object is no longer flagged: Moreover, if you deliberately set the effect to something over 320%, and also different from 327%, you'll get two errors. One for the actual real problem, and another for the imagined 327%. See the attached image: Even moreover, disabling the outline effect will remove neither of the errors, only deletion will work as mentioned above: Finally, this error happens even if the outline effect is applied to an object inside another document, provided the option 'Look inside placed documents' is active: The steps to reproduce are: Enabling the preflight options mentioned: Maximum ink set to 320% Look inside placed documents Create any shape Apply the outline effect Check the error on the preflight panel Thanks!
  4. When I export a GIF with transparency, Outline layer effect become hollow. This seems to happens on all Affinity, all platforms.
  5. Hello Affinity-users Im using affnity designer for an illustration and clipped a vector shape to anouther vector shape. The problem is, that you can still see a white outline underneath the grey layer, and thats really annoing. Can anyone give me a non-destructive solution to fix this situation (a quick workaround would be nice) >>> you can see the problem in my screenshot Thanks!
  6. Hello, my goal is to make a youtube thumbnail where my object (video console) has an outline. I removed the background from the picture, smoothed the edge and then I added a red outline at the effect panel. The outline is not smooth. Instead it looks distorted - it has many pumps / waves to the edge. There is no option to smooth the outline. How can I achieve a clean outline in Designer or Photo?
  7. Hello, dear developers. First of all - I like your program, it is more comfortable than illustrator or Corel draw. But thing is - Designer doesn't have the required functionality to normally offset and expand strokes, while illustrator and Corel draw do. I wanted to design a logo with "luminescence" effect - like soft glow - by outlining, offsetting and expanding strokes. With illustrator I could do it, while in Affinity Designer I can't. I tried "outline" effects, but then I discovered that I just can't expand it. I probably could create something "resembling" to desirable effect, but that is not the solution. I didn't`t notice this instruments in 1.7 either. So please - add this functionality to 1.7 or 1.8 update - while it`s a small detail, but for some projects its crucial. And I`m not the only one asking about this - there are some related topics on this forum asking about the same. Aaaaaand - do something with your "expanding stroke" - it`s horrible! Although a bit better in 1.7 update, but still not appropriate! Many programs (illustrator, Inkscape, Corel Draw, even Sketch!) can do this much better! I`m using Affinity Designer 1.6.5 on Mac OS Mojave (also used on Sierra). Thanks for your work and cannot wait to see this functionality in update
  8. Hi, Is there a way to outline / fill a stroke? Thanks.
  9. Masked shape is not completely overflow main object. Using square as masked object produces 1px outline from mask background. 1) create mask with red background 2) use a square with darker color square as a symbol masked by object above (Curve) 2) observe outline of 1px, this is background from mask (Curves), better is visible on dark canvas But it should be filled up by one color.
  10. Hello Affinity members, I am creating assets for a game in Affinity Designer 1.7.3.481. For that I am using isometric 2:1 grid. In the editor everything looks fine. But after I export it, the resulting PNG has a strange outline or shadow around it. Please see picture attached. This is a 512x256 PNG, the outline is there no matter the export resolution. How do I get rid of this? It looks awful in the game. EDIT: I downloaded latest Affinity Designer version and the problem persists.
  11. Just curious if there is a standard practice for designers exporting PDFs using AD…when you create a pdf, do you prefer to embed your fonts in the pdf, or do you convert them to curves when exporting? (I assume “Convert to Curves” is the AD equivalent of Adobe’s “outline fonts”?) I haven’t run into any issues either way but wondered what others do. Thanks!
  12. How can I get the blue line as the outline of the type, that it surrounds the D, K, N and Y separately
  13. in Affinity publisher when I have multiple artboards and then I select an object outside of them an outline surrounding all the artboards is shown, how can I hide this outline so it doesn't show up anymore? check the attached image below note: this doesn't happen when am using Affinity designer.
  14. Hello, First, I want to warn that English is not my main language, so sorry if I don't express myself well. Since the arrival of version 1.9, I have a rather annoying bug with the vectorization of outlines (see photos attached). I didn't have this problem on version 1.8.5. I use this tool a lot so for the moment I have to work with the old version but I can no longer open my projects created with version 1.9.x. I have tried on several other PCs / Macs and the problem is the same. The bug only concerns versions since 1.9. Do you have a solution to this problem? Will it be fixing soon? Regards, Ant0ine
  15. Hi, I've included bleed on it and there's still an outline on the image. I also had the same issue with my Affinity Designer Ipad. How can I remove the white outline? Green Gardener.pdf
  16. Hi, i assume a bug: when you use a vector shape, fill it with white, add a black outside outline (layer effects) reduce the fill opacity The fill gets darker and finally black (not expected). Expected is fill gets transparent, but stays white. Instead, it gets the color of the outline. When reaching 0% opacity, fill gets transparent (expected), but the outline is extended to the inside (wrong). Spotted by my son in 1.8.5 and 1.9.0.932 Example file shows two linked vector shapes, one using stroke behaving correctly, one with outline mis-behaving. Linked so opacity affects both, and you can see the issue. outline opacity issue.afphoto
  17. Can someone tell me if this software already has the option "Outline" ( see the video) ? I worked with the "trial version" but was not. Thank you!
  18. Hello everyone, Lately I've been working on many grayscale line charts for a research paper and I'm finding one thing very frustrating. See my Screen capture >> When a line is selected their isn't any indication of what color it is? In this case I have the line selected and would like to find its grayscale level in the palette. Is this possible? Thanks
  19. Adding an outline to an image is relatively straightforward: using the Effects Panel. However, some Strange Behaviour has been noticed: I opened a 16-bit Tif file (from a Scanner), which opens into the Photo Persona. An outline (inner) can be applied: I initially opened a TIF file (from a scanner), and applied an Inner Outline: Using same file, after being sent to the Develop Persona for some adjustments: still behaving itself: The same file, sent to the Develop Persona, then to the Tone Mapping Persona. This is where the problem lies: Opps!! Now, why?? In Frustration, regards Biff PS: Happy New Year
  20. Hey guy, I have a shape with no fill and I want the stroke to be shape. So I use "Expand Stroke". The issue is that when I do this AD doesn't directly convert the stroke as it is but cuts off a corner. Look at the screenshots. Maybe you can give me hint why this is happening. EDIT: Maybe I should say, that the strokes are aligned to the inside of the shape
  21. Following a recent upgrade to Mac OS Big Sur 11.0.1 on the mac and upgrade to 1.8.6 of Publisher. When attempting to use an outline on an image using layer effects, the gradient colour stops cannot be selected properly. Unable to switch from one end to the other end of the gradient colour circles. Shutting down publisher then restarting sometimes works but only once or twice. In the image attached the left colour circle is active. unable to click on or select any of the other 2 circles. I have since been able to continue by opening the document on another mac using version 1.8 and Catalina. I was able to select the gradient stops and change the colours. I installed V1.8.6 on the Catalina machine and that worked as well. I have retried the document on the original Mac and the problem no longer manifests itself. This could be a work around. The document was originally created from a template on Publisher V 1.8.6 MacOS Big Sur.
  22. Hello, While I'm still learning how to use Affinity Designer I noticed that the Stroke's Outline is always on the center. 1 - I would like to change the Outline to Inside or Outside - How can I do that ? What I mean is to make it NOT centered based on the blue stroke line, but either outside or inside of it's outline. 2 - I would like to make the rectangle have sharp corners (like the example on the left) - How can I do that? I've tried the Corner option, it seems like it's on zero, but still rounded. Thanks ahead!
  23. Hi Guys, I want to design a T-Shirt print. It should be a big blob or splash and the outlines of our Logo should be left clear inside the blob. I tried to create a mask with the shape of the logo outlines, but all It does is that the outlines get the colours and the texture of the splash. But ich want the splash with the Logo cut out in the middle of it. Has anybody an idea? Kind regards Florian
  24. Hi, in Outline view mode it is sometime quite difficult to sellect curves by clicking on them. I guess the bigger the zoom is, the harder task it is. It takes quite long time to find the right place where the click-sellection works. See my attachement: try to sellect the red head clicking on the curve within the blue area. In Vector mode sellection works well. Click-sellect-test.afdesign
  25. Dear Affinity community, I have a mystery that maybe one of you might help me to resolve ! I need to print a black and white vector drawing on a booklet. I made it with multiple black and white shapes or lines with Affinity Designer. When I print it directly from Affinity Designer (with file > print) it looks great : the vector lines look very sharp and the white color from my design is replaced by the color of my printing paper : this is exactly what I want ! I don't even have to export it first ! The problem comes with Affinity Publisher. When I insert this drawing in my composition (with file > insert) in order to illustrate my booklet ; I can't print it in the same way. Either my outlines look pixelized (like a low resolution .jpg file) Or my white color appear slightly different from the color of my printing paper (a very light grey) and I dont want that. I just want it to be transparent and replaced by the white color of my printing paper. Trust me, I tried every solution I could find on the internet to fix these problems (different export format, bend options, "erase white paper" option...) and nothing works. If anybody has a solution I would be very grateful for your help ! Thanks, in advance ! All the best, Lanval
