  1. Hello Affinity, I'm so glad to see an app like this in the marketplace. However, I can't use it for digital painting and illustration yet because of one MAJOR missing feature: Tablet pressure controlled opacity with the paint brush. As it stands you can set pressure on brush size and flow (among other things) but for digital painters opacity is the most important pressure control you can have. I'd say it's pretty darn important for retouchers as well. Please add this feature soon, because as of now Affinity Photo is unusable for me. Thanks!
  2. When creating a new palette (ordinary or global), the opacity (alpha channel) is copied from the selected object (if there is one). There is no way to change the opacity after palette colour creation. Even using "Edit Fill..." and using the colour picker does not work. So if (for example) a global palette colour is created, accidentally with a opacity value of less than 100%, it cannot be later fixed. It would require a new palette colour to be created, and each object referencing the incorrect colour to be modified to use the corrected colour. Thus in part defeating the purpose of global palette colours.
  3. Hi, I am looking for a way to control the opacity of lightening and darkening effect of blending a layer separately. Such as 10% opacity for darkening and 65% opacity for lightening. What I am NOT looking for - duplication of the layer and have the two layers blend with different blend modes. The problem is that the top layer would then be applied on the result of blending the lower layer, changing the final result. Another problem is that changes to one instance of the layer would need to be manually propagated to the duplicate. - blending based on the absolute luminosity of the current layer, or absolute luminosity of the lower layer. It is their relative luminosity which is important instead. One of the things this would enable is selective control of the opacity of the dark and light halos you get with Unsharp mask live filter. Thanks
  4. Hi, I am a beginner at affinity photo and I am trying to create virtual graduated filters using gradients on adjustment layers but I've ran into a problem: Whenever I try and use the gradient tool there is a weird box. Whenever I edit the gradient points it looks normal but when I let go the gradient is only constrained to the box: (Gradient while mouse is editing one of the points) (Gradient while mouse is not editing the points) Is there anyway I can fix this problem so my image can look normal? Thanks, Jayvin
  5. Hi, how can I please easily adjust Opacity and Hardness with tablet (Wacom Intuos Pro)? I would like to have on the wheel not only Brush Size (by [ ]), but also Opacity and Hardness of the brush.... If it was possible to set Keyboard Shortcuts for Opacity and Hardness, it would be OK, but in the shortcuts there is only the size Thanks Jindra
  6. I have two instances of a symbol in a layer. One of them, I want to make transparent. I assume I can treat one instance as a layer and set its opacity, how would I otherwise apply layer effects to one instance? However, when I adjust the LAYER opacity on a SYMBOL, all other instances of the symbol also go transparent. Looks like a bug to me, since I am not editing the curve inside the symbol.
  7. Hi there! I've just downloaded the trial for Affinity Photo for Windows, and am planning to buy it sometime soon. I've been trying to fade an image that is on top of another as an overlay (so an image that is partially visible, on top of another image), but finding the opacity slider isn't working. I then tried using the transparency tool, but found that it doesn't exist on my download. I'm sure I'm not doing anything wrong, but there might be something I haven't realised. Could someone point me in the right direction please? Thanks heaps everyone!
  8. I'm an AP newby and I'm trying to use the Inpainting Brush and the Clone Brush. I'm working on a background jpeg layer (single layer file) and I have Opacity and Flow set to 100% when using the Inpaint brush. I paint an area, which gets covered in red. When the progress bar is done the red area is only slightly covered. I still can see the area I intended to change but it looks like the opacity of the brush tool was set to about 50%. I have to apply the inpaint brush 3 times to cover the area. The Clone Brush does the same thing. Is there some setting I'm missing? Thanks in advance, Tom L.
  9. As soon as I apply an outline effect to geometry layer (e.g. ellipse), the fill and stroke opacity is gone. It reappears as soon as I delete the outline effect.
  10. I've the following problem: I just wanted to make a simple "symbol" with a frame (with a little bit bigger black contour 1pt) and 4 lines inside, somehow grey (and a little bit thinner 0.3pt). I could manage to design it quite fast (using a rectangle and 4 lines - using the Pen tool), but when printed, I had to find out, that the inner lines are somehow pixelated, when I use opacy or any kind of grey color for the contours. The black one is fine (see attached pic). I'm new to Affinity Designer, so I hope, it's just a problem because I did something wrong. Anyone any idea - what's the problem? By the way, the printer is not the problem. I checked it with other programs. There it works well. Test.afdesign
  11. I recorded a macro, which modifies the opacity of layers in 2 different steps like so: (FADE MACRO) -duplicate layer -opacity 50% (Shows Settings icon > Opacity) -duplicate layer -opacity 20% (Shows Settings icon > Opacity) I enabled the Eye Setting to show the sliders when running (What's the proper name for that eye BTW?) I run it and it works as intended, I get a dialog with 2 sliders and Opacity 1 and Opacity 2, which allow me to preview the macro. Here comes the bug: I record a macro containing the previous "FADE MACRO" like so: (COMPOSITE MACRO) -duplicate layer -apply filter (Shows Settings icon > "Filter") -make composite -Run "FADE MACRO" (Shows Settings icon > Opacity 1, Opacity 2) First, when doing this, the Eyes I activated on "FADE MACRO" get deactivated, so I go into the settings icon to activate them again, and change the each slider to its descriptive name, but BOTH sliders get the same name, the still act independently on the preview, meaning they don't change the same opacity but they can't have different names. It doesn't matter which I click to edit, all sliders of the same property (in this case opacity) get the same name.
  12. Hi, please can some one avidvice me how i can in Affinity Photo use my graphic pen for pressure to control opacity ?
  13. Hi all, Any chance of adding a few little features to the brush tool? I do use the brush tool quite a bit, and in photoshop there are options like brush cycle with shortcut keys(<>). It would be great to see it in photo/designer. Maybe even add a feature where you rotate brushes with a shortcut key instead of having to make lots of versions of the same brush? Or an brush opacity change option that is similar to the hardness and size change options? (ctl+opt+mouse direction) It makes work flows super easy versus going to sliders to change options. Thanks, Hillhouse
  14. Hello everyone! Do you know if there is a way to record changes made to brushes? It would be nice to be able to just click on a macro to set, for example, 120px, 25% opaque, 100% flow, 50% hardness. Best wishes, Shu
  15. I find there's zero difference in the effect of the Blurring tool whether I set the tool's opacity to 1% or 100%. Similar lack of adjustability is experienced in the Sharpening tool, although I do like that it's hard to grossly oversharpen to the point ugliness with that tool. Can the opacity sliders on all tools be improved to provide control so that when I set opacity of a tool to a percentage, it actually applies that effect by that percentage?
  16. Hello, I am photoshop user and I bought affinity photo for windows and it's great :-) I wanted to create leaf texture for Unreal engine with opacity mask stored in alpha channel. Do you have any idea how to move black& white mask to alpha channel end export it as .png or .tga?
  17. Hello I have weird artifacts showing up when I activate opacity variance on a stroke ( from a path ) Any idea?
  18. Hello In both Photo and the pixel persona of Designer, when a pixel layer has a opacity of 50% or less, you can't select its outlines (marching ants) by command-clicking the layer-icon in the layer-panel. Is this by design or a bug? Thanks! Bauke
  19. As demostrated by the image below (three rectangles, two of them blurred, and four pixel brush dots with soft edges) Affinity designer and Affinity photo handle transparency and blending in a mathematically erroneous manner. It is wrong because blended areas are darker than any of the blended colors. Here is a friendly video by MinutePhysics that explains what I think is going on and how to fix it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKnqECcg6Gw
  20. Maybe I just missed something, but maybe this is a bug. I drew some objects using the Pen Tool in Polygon mode, then I grouped them and copied and pasted the result into a DrawPlus document because Affinity Designer was not showing all of my installed fonts (That topic is posted under a different thread). The pasted group did not have a transparent background, even though there is no reason I can see for this to have occurred. The pasted object had a rectangular white background the same size and shape as the lines indicating the grouping. On the other hand, when I exported the group as a PNG directly form Affinity, the background WAS transparent. Thanks for helping.
  21. Why are opacity under the colour tab and opacity under the layer tab not synchronized?
  22. Dear affinity designers, first of all congratulations to your product. It is definitely a kick-ass alternative to ai and makes my current efforts to layout and polish figures for my Master's Thesis really fun. There is one issue however that I don't understand. It has happened twice to me now. I don't really know whether it's a bug or whether I did something wrong, but as I really don't know what I could be doing wrong here, I thought it would fit in this bug category. I'd of course be really happy to find out I just did something wrong that can easily be corrected. The first case (see figure1) is a big file with lots of plots imported from matlab. They were saved as .pdf there, one big multiplot figure and two subplots were imported from other figures. Within affinity designer, everything looked great, but then, when I exported the finished thing as pdf, a little bit of the axis labels got half transparent. This did not happen when I exported as a png. https://www.dropbox.com/s/wlz74jqrghia6hi/figure1.png?dl=0 The second case is the other way around: I produced a figure in affinity designer that included transparent, coloured circles. I copied them several times and put outlines around some of them (sometimes using the cool "Montage" function), and for a reason I don't know their transparency is gone in an exported pdf but not in an exported png and not within affinity designer. And this only happens for some (two to be specific) of my 9 grouped venn diagramms. Really puzzling. https://www.dropbox.com/s/gwsehgb85rsabnn/figure2.png?dl=0 Edit: Using Mozilla firefox I can't upload files ... hope the links to dropbox work. Many cheers, Christoph
  23. I've been working on this illustration for about a week. At first everything was fine, then randomly the upper part of a stroke became slightly opaque showing the layers underneath it. I've included three screen shots: The first showing/highlighting the messed up part of the stroke. The second showing/highlighting the white body fill on a layer beneath the stroke and a normal blending mode. The third showing/highlighting the stroke with 100% opacity and a normal blending mode. I've also attached the .afdesign file as well. Anyway, if I could find out what I tweaked to cause this or if it's a bug that can be fixed, that'd be great. Thanks! Vinyl.afdesign
  24. I enclose a file. 1) I have two green spot 2) Both spots are in a layer group (this group is 50% oppacité) 3) When merges the two slaps inside the folder, visually, the color green decreases. WHY ??? I think this is not a bug? Color_Change.afphoto
