  1. Here are some reusable common numbering items as assets to share. I often use such numberings for screenshots & documentation purposes etc., in order to show specific usability flows or step for step procedures and the like. The dragged over numbering assets are groups, which do contain a numering text and a background shape. They can be easily manipulated to custom needs, like for example changing the text and shape colors, applying some stroke colors, or FX shadows and the like. You can even change the number text & shape type on demand. When dragging one such numbering assets over into your document and manipulating it the way you like (or need), the easiest way to assign the made changes then over to another numbering assets is via a Copy and then a Paste Style or Paste FX, dependent on what portion of a numbering group was changed. You may freely use/reuse these numbering assets for whatever work you've to do. - Have fun! Here's the corresponding numberings assets file: numberings.afassets
  2. When I create a document with a Chapter and a Text masterpage spread and apply them separately on the left and right page of a document spread, the numbered lists start misbehaving. Notice that when I use a numbered list, the number starts at 2 instead of 1. This happens in Publisher 2.2.0, Windows 10.19045. 2023-09-25 10-10-10.mp4 There also aren't any overrides for the list start: Steps to reproduce issue #1 1. Create a new document and add two new masterpage layouts with facing pages 2. For the Chapter masterpage, add a title text frame and a body text frame 3. For the Text masterpage, add a body text frame 4. Create additional pages, if they aren't there already 5. Apply the Chapter masterpage to the left hand side of the first full spread (page nr 2) 6. Apply the Text masterpage to the right hand side of the first full spread (page nr 3) 7. Create a chapter paragraph style with a numbered list set to global like this: 8. Type in the Chapter text box and enable numbered lists in the toolbar for automatic numbering * Notice how the list starts at 2. Issue #2 If I add the chapter page to the 4th page and the text page to the 5th, the numbering is also off: 2023-09-25 11-24-26.mp4 Steps to reproduce 9. Continuing on from issue #1 10. Apply the Chapter masterpage to page 4 11. Apply the Text masterpage to page 5 12. Enable numbered lists and type in the Chapter text box with the numbered chapter style. * Notice how the numbering starts at 4.0 instead of 2.0. (or 3.0 when considering the initial numbering started at 2.0 for the previous spread). File for issue #1 Chapter numbering starts at 2.afpub File for issue #2 Chapter numberin starts at 4.0.afpub See forum thread for discussion:
  3. Hello, I have a big request. I have run into a problem with the automatic numbering of equations in Affinity Pubhlisher. I would need to create an automatic numbering for math equations so that the first number corresponds to the chapter number in which the equation is located. I am attaching an image for visualization. Thank you in advance for all the advice! Viktor
  4. Hello, this is my second problem with Publisher 1.10.1. in macOS 10.15.7 The numbering should also be able to be done automatically via the format, but this does not work for me either: (F) In the paragraph format "Picture line caption" ... (G) Go to "Enumeration and ...". (H) Select the type of numbering, in this case "01, ...". (I) "Fig. \#(I) "Fig. 01, ..." creates the pre-text "Fig. 01" as shown in (A) (this should also be Fig. 02 for the second image and Fig. 03 for the third image; it doesn't work for me either). GERMAN: Die Nummerierung sollte auch automatisch über das Format erfolgen können, geht bei mir auch nicht: (F) Im Absatzformat »Bildzeile-Unterschrift« ... (G) gehe zu »Aufzählung und ...« (H) Wähle den Typ der Nummerierung, hier »01, ...« (I) »Abb. \#. « erzeugt wie in (A) zusehen den Vortext »Abb. 01. « (das sollte beim zweiten Bild auch Abb. 02, beim dritten Bild Abb. 03 heissen; klappt bei mir eben auch nicht.)
  5. I would request that my page numbers in the 'Pages panel' reflect the page numbers I apply to your live pages. Having a list of pages numbered upwards from 1 is no use to me, I need them the reflect what im actually working on. Hope that makes sense.
  6. Hi all, I am producing a larger book (on bio-inspired computing) with about 10 main chapters. I know the possibilities to automatically number titles, subtitles. My question: Is it possible to do that over several unconnected text frames? The book is large; if I want to insert a chapter it is easier to have in general let me say 10 connected textframes (for each chapter one connected textframe-structure). I see the point "general" and "name" in the textstyle menue. The problem: If I don't choose "general", I get several text frames all starting with 1 (which means: I have 10 chapters called 1). See PDF1 If I choose "general" only for the main title, I get chapters 1, 2, ... but the subtitles start with a leading "0", because it is another logic behind. (See PDF2) If I choose "general" also for the subtitles, they count correctly, but each subtitle style counts for itself over the document. (See PDF3) What I would like to have is shown in PDF 4. I know two solutions: Generating additional text styles, e. g. in black, blue, red, green... But with 10 chapters you get a lot of text styles. The other solution: Producing 10 single parts of the book, and at the end joining the PDFs together. Is there a more clever solution? Thanks P.S. And please: Program an automatic cross referencing... 7. Hi. I'm using Affinity Designer for all my identity design and as I have a lot of iterations of artboards in every document, I always need to number manually each artboard which is very time consuming. It's even more complicated to update all those numbers when you delete/add artboards to that same document. An option for an automatic numbering would be awesome. I'm always ordering my layers so that my PDF export is correct, so if I wouldn't have to rename all the artboards, wow, would be great. N.
  8. Hello and thank you for your effort to give us publisher! I happen from time to time to print carbonless paper to make invoice books or numbered coupons, while a simple automatic page numbering is enough for having numbering in paper sizes from A5 and above, there are times that I have to fit multiple smaller sized pages in one big page and need each to start and stop at different numbers. After a long time and thanks to the help of many people I managed to do this with indesign and I wonder if it is possible to be done with publisher too. I will describe how I did this with indesign because it is not exactly an indesign feature but more of a creative way of using the lists in indesign. So maybe after someone recreate the result can tell me if it can be done in publisher. It is not simple so a big thanks to anyone who may even try to see if this is possible in publisher.
  9. Hello, hope someone can help me ! I am really new to Affinity Designer (used to work with Indesign). I started to creat a document, since I was about too creat a pdf with a number of pages, I copied the cardboard several times. So Now I have about 40 dartboards, I worked with them, like they were double pages. I arranged my photographs on the "double" pages and then start to arrange my "double" pages / artboards ... so at the end I got the right order, so my new portfolio work out for me. NOW TO MY QUESTION : When I export my document as a pdf, the pdf will take the order of the pages/artboards like it was in the beginning ??? I really don#t get the advantage of that ? I mean I did the order by dragging the artboards around on purpose, so of corse I want it like that in the Pdf and not the order from the beginning where I had my plain dartboards without any pictures included ? I hope someone understand my issue and can help me :-) Thanks a lot !! :-)
  10. Hi This is driving me potty... I have created a document in Affinity Publisher. I have created a 2 page master and added page numbering to the outer corners. I have also created a single page homepage master (without numbering), a 2 page index page (without numbering) and a further 2 page master for the rest of the document (with numbering). So my layout is: Homepage (homepage master) with no numbers. 2 page index (index master) with no numbers. 2 page - repeated throughout the rest of the document (numbered master) with numbers. I set my page numbering to start on page 4 within the Section manager. Yet, my page 4 is actually numbered '7' and page 5 is numbered '8' Did I do something wrong? Mr M
  11. Is it possible for the TOC entries to automatically include the paragraph numbering of the referenced paragraphs? For example, in my second attached image I have the paragraphs numbered as I want them and it would be nice if those numbers are automatically brought across into the TOC, as in my first attached image. I made the first attached image by manually adding the numbering to the TOC styles but I am wondering if there is a simpler way.
  12. I have some paragraphs that I want to give a number to but I want the number to be to the left of the text, rather than 'within' the text. It might be easier to explain what I want using an image, so please see the attached where I have used five different techniques (denoted by the numbers in the black circles on the right). The frames are shown to give an idea of what's there. Technique 1 was to use a simple text frame for the text and a separate artistic text layer for the number. Easy to create but awkward having to make sure that the number layer is kept aligned with the text. Technique 2 was to manipulate various spacings of the paragraph. Reasonable, if a little awkward to do, but the baseline of the number is always the same as the text so the top of the number isn't aligned with the top of the text (which is what I want). Technique 3 was to use a two-column text frame. Some manipulation of column widths and gutters was needed which wasn't too bad but having more than one paragraph per text frame is awkward. Technique 4 was to use the Numbering feature and manipulate the spacings. More awkward than the other techniques as the x-position of the text frame needed to be placed manually (no way - that I could find - to line-up the left-hand side of the body text with the margin), and it has the same problem as technique 2 with the number having the same baseline as the text. Technique 5 was to use a Drop Cap and manipulate some spacings. Not ideal at all, and I can't have a dot after the number, and the size of the number has to be a multiple of the line height. Is there a better way of doing this? Plus, does anyone know what this sort of thing is properly called? (If I knew the right search term I might have more luck finding something.)
  13. Windows 10 Home 1903, Publisher 1.7.1.404 Sometimes – on at least one occasion where I definitely witnessed it, but quite possibly other occasions where things didn’t seem to be working right – setting the numbering formatting of paragraphs requires that the document be closed and re-opened before the changes applied can be seen on-screen. See here for a bit of background: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/90091-consecutive-numbering-in-text-styles/&tab=comments#comment-486709 Sorry I can’t supply a definite replicable workflow but the number of steps required to get to the position where the problem can be seen is high.
  14. Hi, Publisher is missing Outline styles inside "Text > List" . Yes, it can be done something simmilar with "Increase/Decrease Level", but I can't find these schemes as shown on the pictures in attachment which I created in Quark. BTW, finding the exact forum/topic could be much easier IMO if it is reorgainized like on the pictures.
  15. I am using a MAC desktop, OS Mojave. After downloading the latest 1.7 Beta version I opened a document started with former versions and the pages numbers were off. On the side panel the numbers under the pages are different from the numbers on the main view of the pages. This is important, since pages on the left should be pair numbers and on the left, odd numbers. On the side panel they are ok. I think this was not a problem before.
  16. There appears to be a serious bug in the page numbering as shown in the image below. My displayed page numbers start at 'page 1' followed by 'page 2' as would be expected, but then rise in counts of two with a 'page 54' appearing seeming at random throughout. Weirdly, if I toggle single pages to facing pages and then back to single pages the page numbers shown double each time. First rising by a count of four, then by eight, then sixteen and so on. And each time more pages shed their original number and become yet another 'page 54'. Is this a bug or am I doing something idiotic?
