  1. Hi all, Huge gap in Affinity Photo functionality is lack of non-destructive RAW development. The best solution is to create sidecar file containing all adjustments made with RAW. Now it's not possible to do some adjustments with RAW file, close Affinity and come back to work with the same RAW later starting from previous point. In my workflow and presumably for many other photographers working with RAW covers more than 50% of total workflow. So now I can use Affinity only in the final stages of my workflow. I found some other requests for that functionality but without answer. Question to development team: when do you plan to implement non-destructive RAW development in Affinity? I hope not in 2.0 version :-)
  2. Hey guys, I first want to say a massive well done so far, its looking awesome! I don't know if its been mentioned here but I've noticed when testing out RAW files that once you make changes to an image in "Develop" and commit no XMP file is saved out (at least for .cr2 files). I really like XMP files as it provides a non destructive way to edit your files, its a standard across many RAW editors and has great compatibility across many apps. I would also be able to theoretically edit existing files originally edited in other programs right in Affinity its self! I've also noticed you can't go back to the "Develop persona" after committing an edit although reading the warning box suggests this wont be an issue in later builds. I just wanted to know the situation around this topic. Will things be improving or is this the limit to what you can do with RAW files in affinity. Cheers guys :)
  3. In Photoshop there is the the puppet warp tool to deform an image by moving pins around. It's great if you want to put an object into an compositing and want to bend it in a way that everything fits. Affinity Photo has the same thing under "Filter -> Distort -> Deform". I really like that you can see the original position AND the deformed position of a pin. You can't see that in Photoshop. However, in Photoshop the puppet warp is non-destructive as long as you use it on a smart object. In that case, you get a puppet warp entry below the smart object in the layer panel and when you open it you see all your pins right where you left them. That's really essential. We don't live in a perfect world where we get every operation right on the first try. In reality, usually you notice at some point that it still is not the way it should be and you tweak it. When you do a new deform over and over again you will lose quality over time. So please add a non-destructive version of the deform filter. For example, as a live filter right next to the perspective live filter.
  4. Hi on the desktop version you have the option of non destructive boolean. great. now, please make it on the ipad too. if i open a document that is done on the desktop in my ipad the option is gone. thanks
  5. Thank you for the surprisingly quick release of Photo Beta for Windows! I have a few questions / comments on RAW editing as a heavy user of Photoshop and its upstream ACR workspace. While I like that Serif actually chose a common interface for traditional photo-retouching / compositing as well as RAW developing there's also features I miss right away. Photoshop's RAW development allows for global editing of image properties – pretty much in the way the Develop Persona works. That way one can raise the exposure or increase contrast – changes do apply to the whole image. Apart from that one may use any combination of tools for non-destructive brush based operations, as well as graduated filters. The impact of any contributing tool may get changed at any point in time. Even after bringing the edited RAW image into the main PS application as a smart object and having worked for hours in a composition, one can still go back and each and any global, operation as well as brush based RAW operations are still Life. One at that point can even delete the original RAW file, as it has completely gotten embedded into the .psd. If so desired, one could strip out any changes and export to .dng again. The Affinity RAW editor seems not to have any of the tools I just described. Also, RAW development in Affinity seems to be understood as the first step in a linear stream of editing operations. One may of course re-enter the Develop workspace, but all tools have forgotten the settings one had dialed in initially. I wonder what your plans are in terms of RAW editing: Do you plan to keep Develop-setting Live? Is non-destructive brush / gradient-based editing with any combination of tools on the roadmap? I also wonder what happens if one uses a couple of RAW based images on a large Poster. In Photoshop one may use these images at their full size or as a thumbnail. But one can scale that thumbnail up again or paste it into a new file and raise the output size here. As the RAW information is encapsulated in the Smart Object one never loses resolution. Obviously one shouldn't go larger that the original RAW but for all smaller output sizes one can practically forget about resolution issues. Is there a similar solution inside Affinity Photo?
  6. As a portrait photographer, I use editing software for retouching and portrait editing. I'm also a big stickler for nondestructive editing. I've only been working in AP for a few days, and I'm still struggling to figure out how to create a nondestructive workflow similar to the one I use in Ps. Is there a way to use the clone/blemish/patch tools on a blank pixel layer to leave the background layer as is? If not, I would like to request that feature. It's a deal breaker for me. I'd also love to hear how other retouchers are adopting AP and about your workflow. Thanks!
