  1. I love being able to specify noise / grain in Affinity's colors. I think it would be even more flexible if: 1. Rename Noise to Grain. Noise is an antiseptically cold-sounding term; Grain speaks to the art, craft and texture of photography and design. 2. Allow Users to specify both App-wide (App Prefs) and Document-Wide (New Doc / Document Settings) setting for Grain. This would tremendously easy the tedium of assigning noise to colors manually and maintain consistency, something that is not possible now as there is no numerical input for noise. Obviously there would be some exceptions with PMS / Spot colors etc 3. Allow users to apply noise as an Effect AT THE TOP of the Effects stack. As things are implemented now, applying a Gaussian Blur effect to an object blurs its color's Noise. I understand why that behavior makes sense, but from an artistic / creative point of view, one may want to blur only an objects' Shape and/or Colors while maintaining the document's Grain settings. Thanks for your consideration. The 1.5 betas are amazing, keep up the great work! Please unleash iOS betas ASAP :D Oh, and Affinity Publisher :D lolol ;)
  2. In a previous build there was a slider for adding noise to a fill: a great option, but I can't find it now! Has it gone, or have I simply been looking in the wrong places?
  3. Anyone aware of a way to apply noise fill to a multiple selection of objects? I've been doing a workaround with a layer over the top and multiply, but it's not exactly what I'm after. If not, can I request it as a feature? :)
  4. Hello! I'm using the affinity 10 day trial to see if I like it and it's been great, until now. I open up my NEF file and make some edits in the RAW editor. I shot in a high ISO, so I was mainly editing out the noise. It looks great in the RAW editor, but once I click "Develop" it looks super noises/grainy and is even worse than before! Why is this happening and how do I fix it?
  5. Is noise a vector or raster effect? I would like to create vector images, but will adding noise compromise this?
  6. I seem to be getting strange unwanted noise is gradients when I use a global curves adjustment. I can't get rid of it, and I thought I mistakenly added it when you choose a color in the gradient editor but I didn't. How do I get rid of it? See attached. Now my curves adjustment is pretty extreme though. I guess you could say I am pushing the app to new boundaries!
  7. I've tried to erase noise of some photos and noticed a strange behavior. I did the following: 1. Open a Photo 2. Use Filter -> Noise -> Noise Reduction (I'm using the German version, hope it's called that way) 3. Set Luminance Noise to Extrem, and take the slider to a high setting. Everything else is set to default. What I got before rendering, just seeing the preview in the main window is what you can see in Preview.png. What I got after rendering you can see in Render.png. Render looks much worse to me. Is this meant to be or might this be a bug? Thanks for your help. Herr der Töne
  8. Hi there, I've been testing affinity photo for 3 months now. had to stop for some time because of buggy behavior of previous versions. Since I am editing photos on a daily basis using photoshop, I cannot afford much distraction or slowing down of my regular editing workflow. So I test the app here and there. It still takes me twice the amount of time to edit a picture using Affinity photo compared to photoshop. This is not about the quality of this app. I have high regard in it and I hope to replace all my adobe products with these programs in the near future! I am sure my workflow will become faster the more frequently I use this app. One thing that came up today was the existence of a filter that somewhat mimics photoshops "median" functionality. I sometimes have a shape that I want to smoothen a little. I do that with the median filter. How can this be achieved?
  9. Hi again, I'm not sure if this is just an issue with raw files from certain cameras but here's what I'd like to offer as a feedback regarding the develop persona as it is at the moment (my raw files are from a Canon 450D, my test file is rather 3 stops underexposed, my comparison to other raw converters is capture one and adobe camera raw): - as mentioned in previous posts raw files are already adjusted when opened with affinity photo. I think this might be a good thing when the settings of the adjustment would be visible in the specific categories of the develop persona, but as it is, the sliders are all in neutral. Also, it would be good to have the option to switch the auto adjustment on and off. - especially compared to capture one, but also compared to camera raw, the development of underexposed images contain much more noise (color noise that is) when being exposed to similar levels, and that in the end costs a lot of detail when being removed by the denoise tools - exposure control is lacking subtle steps in adjusting the exposure, - I'd love to have the option of double clicking on the sliders to go back to the original setting That's it for now, all the best to you guys and keep up the good work!! PS: I'd like to add that when I open the jpeg of the same underexposed image and use the Exposure adjustment layer the image quality is much better, much less noisy and comparable to what the exposure in Photoshop has to offer
  10. Just wondering if there is a way to get the noise feature to work on painted or pixel work? Can't seem to find it, don't know if it's buried somewhere or just not a feature... sure would be great to have it work in a similar fashion to the vector stuff.
