  1. Hi, After using 'break curve' Designer generates new nodes for the new broken nodes/segments. But the new nodes are behind the existing nodes, so when selecting using click it selects the existing nodes, because these are on top. Most of the time I would like to select the new nodes (of the broken part) instead. But how can we do that? See video: * Select two anchors of a shape * Break the curve --> Designer adds new nodes on the same place for the broken curve * Try to select the nodes of the broken curve-segment without moving the existing nodes... I would like to move the broken segment nodes up, but I can't manage to find a way to do this without moving the 'old' nodes first... I tried holding ctrl, alt and shift when selecting the nodes to get the back-node instead of the front-node, but that doesn't work. How can we select these back-nodes (of the broken segment)? break curve.mp4
  2. I've just bought Affinity Designer on my iPad (2018, 6th generation) and I'm really impressed. I Only have a bit problem with the pen tool: when I put nodes, I can't place them close to each other. I always need to magnify the picture when I would like to path small details. (I use Apple Pencil). What should I do? Maybe that is why I'm newbie to Affinity Designer. (Vectornator doesn't produce this issue, I can put nodes very close in this app) Thank You for helping me! Andras
  3. Hi, yes, yet another "how to join 2 nodes post", but I've been in struggle for two days now, I'm creating a font and will have a lot of this places with 2 points together but with different bezier points (see image), I need really clean vector with 1 point instead of 2. When moving 1 point to second one, it highlights in yellow color and snaps to it, I looks like YAAYYY it converted into 1 point???? NO, it's still 2 points just hanging in the same coordinates Selecting 2 points and clicking "Join curves" "Close curves" nothing is happening. "Smooth curve" is great feature, but not great for me in this situation, as shape very much changes How to really create 1 point from 2? without touching the bezier handles and doing anything with hands again (it will ruin the original shape) P.S. Also, why point sometimes have square markers and sometimes round markers? (like in attachment)
  4. Is it possible to merging two or more selected nodes into 1 node (all nodes belong to one curve)? This is a very important issue for me - I use such functionality incessantly (Inkscape, Blender 3d, Corel Draw). Nowhere can I find how to do it at Affinity. thank you for the remarks
  5. My current workflow (using illustrator and the Astute Graphics Inkscribe tool) is to eyedropper a colour, Draw a closed shape, deselect, then eyedropper again, then draw a second shape off the points/nodes of the previous. I cannot replicate this in Designer (or Photo) with the pen tool. Playing with the snap parameters allow me to, to an extent, draw off the first shapes points but there's no way to give snapping prominence over the general sides of said shape so accuracy cannot be maintained. I understand this is probably quite a difficult thing to explain, but the Affinity tools seem halfway there so would be amazing if I could switch 100%. Failing that please encourage Astute Graphics to enable their Illustrator plugins to work in Designer!
  6. Affinity Designer for iPad. I cant find tutorial about „selection of objects and nodes“. There was one... i want to look it again. Can somebody post the link, please? thankyou for Support. MMMax
  7. Hi, it's the second day I'm using AD and I was working on an artwork when out of all sudden it stopped showing the separate nodes. Is it possible that I have pressed something by mistake? And more importantly: how can I (re-)activate the view of the nodes? Thanks a lot in advance!
  8. I have searched for a solution to this, but maybe I am not using the right keywords, or the right approach to the problem at all... I have two paths, A and B. The node at the end of B, when I create it, is "snapped" to the path of A somewhere near the middle. However if I alter path A, I would like for the end of path B to move along with it... a sort of "persistent snapping, if you will". Instead, path B stays put and a gap opens between the two paths. See the attached screenshot for an example. Is there some way to achieve this? Perhaps a different approach to that which I'm using? It would really help a lot when I go in to "clean up" my paths after a first cut. Thanks... Jon
  9. Hi, when I press "Node Tool > Transform mode", all nodes on selected object are locked. Is this OK, or is something wrong?
  10. Hi, is there a way to remove just one handle? I'm using AD on iPad…
  11. What is this menu/icons for? I'm using AD for iPad…
  12. Hi, Is there a way to make bezier handles snap to 45 or 90 degrees? Most apps allow for this by holding down shift, but shift behaved differently in Affinity Designer, snapping to the existing curve. The only workaround i've found so far is to use the pen tool to redraw the bezier curve by clicking and dragging on the same point while holding shift. Is there another way to do this? Thanks.
  13. Update: I went to Microsoft and tried it. You can use the vector brush tool with the surface pen in the same “drawing” motion that you can use on the iPad. I’ve been debating purchasing an iPad Pro vs. a Surface Pro 6...I was messing around with the app on the iPad Pro at the apple store and one thing I liked a lot is you can use the Apple Pencil to essentially “draw” your vectors through the vector brush tool. Is there the ability to do this on Microsoft surface pro with the surface pen with the pc version of affinity designer? Or is it only for the iPad app? Thanks!
  14. This is a feature that I have in another application that is vector based. The line width can be adjusted between nodes. To the point of making the line between two nodes invisible. It allows for closed shapes that look like they are actually open. The lines on either side of the invisible line shrink down accordingly and form points that resemble the end of a stroke. Not sure if this has been requested or not but wanted to put it out there for the powers that be. Thanks in advance!
  15. Sometimes you require to align the nodes of shapes which it's nodes are not in the corner of the shape (see image 1), and it will be great if this can be done without modifying the shape to be align. I imagine that in the future this could be done in a new node option, in the alignment button (Image 1 and 2). If this can be already done, I would be more than happy to learn that. Thank you again for this amazing software!
  16. I've noticed during my usage of Designer that, even when snapping is enabled, the pixel snapping doesn't work in the pen and node tools (it does a bit in the former, however it gets completely disregarded when aligning to a shape). Most of the stuff I create ends up being exported as a PNG file, and half-pixels (or the like) usually don't look good in the image at all. To combat this, I need to manually set the values of each node in the Transform panel after creating the shape - a slow and annoying process. I understand part of this is to make it so people can easily make complex shapes and align to edges and stuff, however a simple option to force pixel snapping for everything would be super useful. Thanks
  17. Hi Often times we have to deal with bad vectors where there are many nodes stacked on top of each other, it would nice if we could just select all the nodes and "merge" them into a single node. Does this feature already exists? Thank you
  18. I'm sorry if this is an obvious question but I simply can't figure out how to select nodes on a path in any way other than the rectangular selection. If I want to more precisely select nodes (eg, with a more freehand selection or through multiple selections), how can one do that? For example, how could one select only the 'E' in the attached example?
  19. So I've been using Affinity Designer for a few days (Just the trial version to test it out) and I am LOVING it. I intend to transition from Inkscape to this soon. It's really smooth to use and just feels less like a mechanical process, and more like art. So, Affinity has been an amazing program so far, but I have a few suggestions to make it better, or features to add. First of all, there should be node alignment options (I am attaching a file to demonstrate what I mean. Inkscape has this, but Affinity doesn't, unfortunately.) I just realized I can manually input x and y coordinates for nodes, which may work, but it would be a real pain, especially when there are multiple nodes to align. Plus, then you have to do math. Also, the alignment interface for objects. I love how it's designed for full control, but it doesn't seem intuitive. I don't know how to describe it, but again, I like how it was implemented in Inkscape, with only one panel with all the options instead of two panels with half the options. (It might be personal preference, but it's not a big deal). The thing that I miss however is distribute options for objects (It would be handy for nodes too) but I'll attach a file down below showing how it was implemented in Inkscape. Another thing I would like is for an inset object feature to be added. It's not a big deal, but it would be nice in a variety of circumstances. One more usability issue is the object history. I understand that the history is linear, and so when you make changes after going back it can't magically find your alternate history, but clicking on the document should NOT be considered an action! Let me explain, often I will do a design change, and then want to compare it to my previous design to see if it was an improvement, so I use undo and redo to go back and forth to view. The issue is, however, is that a selection will appear over objects that redo their actions, so to see my graphic properly, I click on the document to clear the selection... and whoops! My design reset itself to the old design! This was because it for whatever reason the program thought that clicking on the document was an action and so rewrote all future history steps with the "Click on document" action (Or whatever it is called) Now I have to redo it again! I understand that yes, doing that isn't the best way (I should make clones instead) but I use it a lot for small changes. Just to clarify, if you move an object or move a node, it should count as an action, but clicking on the document or selecting something shouldn't, because it doesn't make any impact on the actual graphics unless you do move something! Also, snapping doesn't seem to work on inset nodes, only on nodes that stick out more. These are all things that make Affinity Designer a little less fluid and exact to use, and are some features I miss from Inkscape. Please note, these are just features from Inkscape that I loved that are not available on Affinity Designer. I just want Affinity Designer to be the best program it could possibly be. I am a huge fan of Designer as a Illustrator level alternative for a extremely reasonable price!
  20. I have huge problems when working with shapes, how to open them / break them, how to join curves, how to close curves. It always end up in a mess. Is there a GOOD tutorial explaining this? I have looked around, and this very basic very important topic hasn't really given me answers. Especially the 'break curve' function is a major headache. I can click a node where I want the curve split, click the 'Break Curve' button in the Action panel, and nothing happens. The curve is as whole as it was before I started. This is really driving me nuts. Also, is there a way to toggle handles on off. When I want to move a node, I almost always end up grabbing a handle instead of the node, unless I am zoomed in really much. I hope there is someone out there who can help me out. Thank you!
  21. Hello, I have received a temporary solution, but I think that without this temporary solution this function should be present! Will this lack be solved? And if so ... within what timeframe? Regards, Jan-Willem See the discussion that I open elsewhere on the forum:
  22. Hello all, How can I snapping a guideline to an node in to a curve? I have searched everywhere in the program, but can not find it anywhere .... Is still an essential function. I work with Affinity Designer 1.6.1. Regards, Jan-Willem
  23. Working with the pen tool, I've noticed that there is no way to snap the bezier handles to 45° and 90° angles once the node has been placed. Normally, this would be done by holding down the shift key while moving the bezier handle. In Affinity designer, this locks the handle to the angle it was last placed at. My suggestion would be to keep the current behavior, but add an alternate keyboard shortcut that will lock the bezier handles to 45° and 90° (and possibly other) angles. Could be CMD + DRAG, CMD + SHIFT + DRAG, etc.. Thanks!
  24. Hi, I'm new with Vector drawing and rather new to AD. What I'm trying to achieve: (https://www.vecteezy.com/vector-art/95407-white-abstract-geometric-vector) What would be the best way to draw these triangles? Steps and Problems encountered when drawing triangles with the pen tool in Polygon mode: After each closed polygon a new curve layer is created, which makes it impossible to reuse a nodes and edges as part of another triangle To use a triangle that is created through creating surrounding triangles, a polygon has to be drawn explicitely where each node is on top of others To move nodes, all layers have to be selected and before moving a node I have to select join curves. This however is forgotten as soon as I select another layer I've also tried using the triangle tool, but this doesn't make it easier, as I'll have to move more nodes around afterwards. Maybe this is the way one has to deal with it, but I was hoping, someone could recommend a better workflow. Thanks in advance.
  25. Hi guys, I can't seem to figure out what the difference is between CONVERT TO SMOOTH and CONVERT TO SMART for a node. Is there a difference? Thank you
