  1. I have designer for the iPad. When I use my Apple pencil and try to select/tap objects neither tool works correctly I think. I have to "drag" with my move tool to select object and then select the node tool in order to select nodes. Neither of them work by tapping the object. Is this how it works or am I doing something wrong.
  2. While using the Pencil Tool in AD for iPad, is there a way to change a setting to automatically close a path, where the nodes of end and beginning of the that path join. Or will I have to switch to Node Tool and close each of them manually?
  3. This is a feature that I have in another application that is vector based. The line width can be adjusted between nodes. To the point of making the line between two nodes invisible. It allows for closed shapes that look like they are actually open. The lines on either side of the invisible line shrink down accordingly and form points that resemble the end of a stroke. Not sure if this has been requested or not but wanted to put it out there for the powers that be. Thanks in advance!
  4. Sometimes you require to align the nodes of shapes which it's nodes are not in the corner of the shape (see image 1), and it will be great if this can be done without modifying the shape to be align. I imagine that in the future this could be done in a new node option, in the alignment button (Image 1 and 2). If this can be already done, I would be more than happy to learn that. Thank you again for this amazing software!
  5. I've noticed during my usage of Designer that, even when snapping is enabled, the pixel snapping doesn't work in the pen and node tools (it does a bit in the former, however it gets completely disregarded when aligning to a shape). Most of the stuff I create ends up being exported as a PNG file, and half-pixels (or the like) usually don't look good in the image at all. To combat this, I need to manually set the values of each node in the Transform panel after creating the shape - a slow and annoying process. I understand part of this is to make it so people can easily make complex shapes and align to edges and stuff, however a simple option to force pixel snapping for everything would be super useful. Thanks
  6. I'm sorry if this is an obvious question but I simply can't figure out how to select nodes on a path in any way other than the rectangular selection. If I want to more precisely select nodes (eg, with a more freehand selection or through multiple selections), how can one do that? For example, how could one select only the 'E' in the attached example?
  7. So I've been using Affinity Designer for a few days (Just the trial version to test it out) and I am LOVING it. I intend to transition from Inkscape to this soon. It's really smooth to use and just feels less like a mechanical process, and more like art. So, Affinity has been an amazing program so far, but I have a few suggestions to make it better, or features to add. First of all, there should be node alignment options (I am attaching a file to demonstrate what I mean. Inkscape has this, but Affinity doesn't, unfortunately.) I just realized I can manually input x and y coordinates for nodes, which may work, but it would be a real pain, especially when there are multiple nodes to align. Plus, then you have to do math. Also, the alignment interface for objects. I love how it's designed for full control, but it doesn't seem intuitive. I don't know how to describe it, but again, I like how it was implemented in Inkscape, with only one panel with all the options instead of two panels with half the options. (It might be personal preference, but it's not a big deal). The thing that I miss however is distribute options for objects (It would be handy for nodes too) but I'll attach a file down below showing how it was implemented in Inkscape. Another thing I would like is for an inset object feature to be added. It's not a big deal, but it would be nice in a variety of circumstances. One more usability issue is the object history. I understand that the history is linear, and so when you make changes after going back it can't magically find your alternate history, but clicking on the document should NOT be considered an action! Let me explain, often I will do a design change, and then want to compare it to my previous design to see if it was an improvement, so I use undo and redo to go back and forth to view. The issue is, however, is that a selection will appear over objects that redo their actions, so to see my graphic properly, I click on the document to clear the selection... and whoops! My design reset itself to the old design! This was because it for whatever reason the program thought that clicking on the document was an action and so rewrote all future history steps with the "Click on document" action (Or whatever it is called) Now I have to redo it again! I understand that yes, doing that isn't the best way (I should make clones instead) but I use it a lot for small changes. Just to clarify, if you move an object or move a node, it should count as an action, but clicking on the document or selecting something shouldn't, because it doesn't make any impact on the actual graphics unless you do move something! Also, snapping doesn't seem to work on inset nodes, only on nodes that stick out more. These are all things that make Affinity Designer a little less fluid and exact to use, and are some features I miss from Inkscape. Please note, these are just features from Inkscape that I loved that are not available on Affinity Designer. I just want Affinity Designer to be the best program it could possibly be. I am a huge fan of Designer as a Illustrator level alternative for a extremely reasonable price!
  8. I have huge problems when working with shapes, how to open them / break them, how to join curves, how to close curves. It always end up in a mess. Is there a GOOD tutorial explaining this? I have looked around, and this very basic very important topic hasn't really given me answers. Especially the 'break curve' function is a major headache. I can click a node where I want the curve split, click the 'Break Curve' button in the Action panel, and nothing happens. The curve is as whole as it was before I started. This is really driving me nuts. Also, is there a way to toggle handles on off. When I want to move a node, I almost always end up grabbing a handle instead of the node, unless I am zoomed in really much. I hope there is someone out there who can help me out. Thank you!
  9. Hello, I have received a temporary solution, but I think that without this temporary solution this function should be present! Will this lack be solved? And if so ... within what timeframe? Regards, Jan-Willem See the discussion that I open elsewhere on the forum:
  10. Hey guys I just recently made the switch from Adobe ecosystem to Affinity Designer & Photo because i'm not trying to shell out $600 a year for the rest of my life. I'm getting myself adjusted with Designer right now, but i hit a snag. I can't seem to Add/Remove nodes to existing paths like you could in Illustrator. I've tried searching in Help, but nothing comes up. Is this feature not currently available in Designer? If that's the case, then when can we expect this option in a future update? I only ask because it's something I use often. Thanks in advance for your help and time.
  11. Hello all, How can I snapping a guideline to an node in to a curve? I have searched everywhere in the program, but can not find it anywhere .... Is still an essential function. I work with Affinity Designer 1.6.1. Regards, Jan-Willem
  12. Hi, I'm new with Vector drawing and rather new to AD. What I'm trying to achieve: (https://www.vecteezy.com/vector-art/95407-white-abstract-geometric-vector) What would be the best way to draw these triangles? Steps and Problems encountered when drawing triangles with the pen tool in Polygon mode: After each closed polygon a new curve layer is created, which makes it impossible to reuse a nodes and edges as part of another triangle To use a triangle that is created through creating surrounding triangles, a polygon has to be drawn explicitely where each node is on top of others To move nodes, all layers have to be selected and before moving a node I have to select join curves. This however is forgotten as soon as I select another layer I've also tried using the triangle tool, but this doesn't make it easier, as I'll have to move more nodes around afterwards. Maybe this is the way one has to deal with it, but I was hoping, someone could recommend a better workflow. Thanks in advance.
  13. Hi guys, I can't seem to figure out what the difference is between CONVERT TO SMOOTH and CONVERT TO SMART for a node. Is there a difference? Thank you
  14. Hello handsome and intelligent developers! I have a small feature request. Currently with the node tool, when editing a shape, if you single click on a line between 2 nodes, it adds a node. This is super useful! But i notice that a double click on a current node does nothing at all. Double clicking a node with the node tool to delete it would be a great use for this currently unused action, and just another way to make the node tool a left-hand-free tool (since right now, to delete a node, i have to click it and then remove my hand from home row to hit the delete button). Let me know if you think this is a good idea!
  15. Hi Often times we have to deal with bad vectors where there are many nodes stacked on top of each other, it would nice if we could just select all the nodes and "merge" them into a single node. Does this feature already exists? Thank you
  16. Good day everyone! I am trying to add a node here(refer to Sketch.png attached). I couldn't achieve it using the node tool, as it doesn't snap to the intersection. In Adobe Illustrator, we can achieve this by selecting both the open paths and selecting "divide" in the Pathfinder panel. When I do the same in AD, the straight line disappears and the open path(selected path) turns to a closed one. I'm trying to figure how to achieve this simple thing in AD. Please help!
  17. Hello, I've been playing with a some lettering and working on a new type. For example, I've taken the cross-dash in the "A" and moved the nodes to the bottom to make it look like an upside down "V". (It also happens on my "E") However, when I go to print, there's a very small line still at the bottom and I'd like very much to get rid of it. Every time I try to mess with the nodes now, the letter ends up out of whack. What's the best way to go about doing this? Thank you!
  18. I teach a monthly class using a cutting machine so I am always on the look out for free SVG cutting files I can use. I have found that often these files have errors in them and need to be edited before they cut well. One common problem is double lines. This month's project had several score (dashed) lines duplicated which resulted in the paper cutting clear through when I did my test. In trying to delete the extra lines, I was having a terrible time clicking on the actual node itself and not its handle. No matter how hard I tried, I always seemed to grab the handle. Is there a way to turn off the handles when editing so that I am only moving or deleting nodes themselves? If not, would you consider adding that ability? I do have that ability in another program, unfortunately, it doesn't have enough other controls - which is why I got Affinity. That and I used Serif products back in the day when they could make my dot matrix printer look good enough for me to have a business in DTP.
  19. MODS: I'm not sure where this falls under so please feel free to move this thread. I come from working in Sketch. After doing tuts and trying out both Affinity Designer and Illustrator, I chose Designer because it felt easier to pick up. For a beginner, it's not as intuitive as Sketch but still feels better than Illustrator (great job!). I do have one huge gripe though and that's the Pen Tool. I can't change node functions between a Smooth Node to Sharp Node on the fly as I'm drawing. If I created a curve and need a immediate sharp point, I must backtrack and alt click. In Sketch, it's simply holding the command key and clicking. Even Adobe Illustrator is much better in this regard. This video starting at the 3:50 mark illustrates what I'm talking about. There's a lot of back tracking work if you look closely. Is there anyway to improve on this workflow? The pen tool kinda feels like an engineer built it for an engineer to use. (Do please educate me if I'm wrong!) https://youtu.be/UDVuI0BPFgo?t=229
  20. Is there a way to move only half of an anchor handle to make a right angle? It seems like when ever you move a handle with the node tool, both sides always move together. The only way to avoid this I found is dragging one handle to the anchor point, but it seems inaccurate.
  21. Until a knife or cut tool comes along, I would love to see a delete node, as in gone feature. Instead of deleting the node and leaving the path closed as is currently, deleting the node and it breaks a hole in the path as far as the next two nodes are located. Could be with a modifier key... shift delete or option/alt delete. Sure would save a bunch of time. Current setup breaking the path route is cumbersome and leaves 2 nodes on top of each other, which you need to select and then delete, often selecting the wrong one...
  22. I would love it if you could easily toggle to the node tool while drawing with the pen tool. It would make drawing masks much quicker. Or even if you could choose one of the bezier handles with the pen and adjust it that way. Now, if I click on one of the control points with my pen it drops another point instead of letting me adjust the handle angle. On a related note, please let the node tool adjust just one side of a Bézier curve. I'm try to crest an accurate mask and if use the node to adjust one side the other side adjusts as well. Can't get a good mask like that. Thanks

  24. Is there anyway to toggle between the pen and node tool when using the pen on the ipad? I use this feature all the time in PS by pressing modifier keys while drawing a path and the pen switches to node and when I release the key it goes back to the pen. It is very quick and I use it daily. I was hoping that there might be a way to do this on the Ipad version of Photo. So far loving the ipad version, but am getting used to interface. Thanks!
  25. A feature to align individual nodes would be really helpful, Inkscape has supported this for a number of years. See "3. Align Those Nodes!" at this site for an example of how it should work: https://design.tutsplus.com/tutorials/helpful-align-and-distribute-tips-when-using-inkscape--vector-21032
