  1. [This is *not* a request for an Affinity animation or motion graphics app. Not that that wouldn't be nice! 👼] Is anyone familiar with/have experience using Affinity Designer and DaVinci Resolve for 2D motion graphics? If so, are there tutorials, YouTube channels, or other resources you recommend that you could point me toward? (I know how to use Google and search, but if you've already waded through the resource morass and have some stuff bookmarked, that would be helpful!) And my more general question is... Does anyone have any informed recommendations on the best mograph app to use alongside AD? I want to completely dump Adobe and right now AE is the only thing keeping me. A free option would be nice, but not if it sucks. So I'm interested in looking into paid (non-subscription) programs, too. I'm especially interested in anything that can support vectors, but I could do without if I had to. Thank you! (Hope this is in the correct subforum. If not, please move!)
  2. It would be super awesome to have a real competitor to After Effects. I do use motion but something more like After Effects would be a winner, control over keyframe interpolation, masks, expressions and shapes! I think there is a ton of improvement that can be make and the world would become a different place. I have made the move over to Photo and Designer and feeling more comfortable with them everyday! Now just a really cool motion graphics/compositing program would completely get rid of the need for Adobe for me.
  3. Hi everyone. I'm not sure where to post this - hopefully here is okay. The rather excellent motion graphics website 'School of Motion' have been singing the praises of Affinity Designer and discussing how to use it with After Effects. Links here: https://www.schoolofmotion.com/blog/illustrator-vs-affinity https://www.schoolofmotion.com/blog/save-affinity-designer-vector-files-after-effects https://www.schoolofmotion.com/blog/tips-vector-files-affinity-after-effects I can only wish that one day there's an Affinity Motion product... Cheers Dougie
  4. Hi Guys, I wanted to learn motion graphics but I honestly can't afford to buy both After Effects and Illustrator. After there any motion graphics designers who can share their workflow to me? How do you guys manage to use Affinity Designer and After Effects? Cheers.
  5. Hi there , First of all, Congratulations for this excellent soft (Affinity Designer)!! it's very useful, very easy & beautifull UI. i'm teaching many different softwares for students and i'm seriously considering teaching new software ( although some agencies are not all yet ready ...) i'm working for years in the industry of graphic design and was always looking for something like that (A.Deisgner) but Now ... when i see all the potential of these softs, i am wondering if you're going to do something for video editing/animation like After effects ? this would logically be a good issue for you. i know it's going to be hard but i know for sure that you can truly go further than After effects. Once more congrat , but wht next now ? Jacques Louradour
  6. Hello forum and dear Affinity Team ;) Congratulations to your great software, I realy love it and it's the first time I didn't touched Photoshop and Illustrator since 1 month. And...I'm looking forward to never touch it again :P So here's my question: Is there any chance that I can leave After Effects untouched in the near future? Your software is very great, fast and reliable. Would be so great to put all this experience in a replacement for After Effects written by Serif. Thank you Pete
  7. HitFilm 3 Express is currently available for free over on this site: https://hitfilm.com/express While HitFilm is generally a vehicle for filmmakers, it has compositing features that make it ideal for generating motion graphics. A few things to remember: ~ HitFilm does not accept the import of vectors. You'll have to export all vectors to .png files to use them as assets. ~ Hitfilm's mac version only works with OS X 10.8 or higher. ~ In HitFilm, you must create a composite shot in order to use keyframing and effects. Composite shots are similar to After effects' precompositions. HitFilm has two modes to create work in: the editing mode and the compositing mode. When your composite shots are complete, switch back to the editing mode and the composite shots are in the assets window ready to be dragged & dropped into the NLE. ~ Unlike HitFilm 3 Pro, Express only exports up to 1080p. Hope This Helps.
  8. One of the questions I see asked a LOT in the forums is how to accomplish Motion Graphics with graphic assets created in Designer/Photo. I leave the mechanical details of preparing the AD and AP files in the capable hands of Ronnie McBride. What I want to do in this space is present options OTHER than After Effects. Some of us either can't currently afford AfterFX, others may not currently want to feed the beast that Adobe has become (I know I don't). Affinity, I also realize that Serif just discontinued MoviePlus...so, if you guys don't see yourselves coming out with an "affinity animate" app (or "affinity animator"; if you use it, you heard it here first), here are some alternatives you might be willing to suggest to take the heat off. The following solutions are "node-based" (as a reference, Motion and After Effects use a "layer-based" user interface to create compositions) and require a discrete GPU (mid to high-powered video card; Intel HD 4000 ain't gonna cut it). Nuke Non-commercial edition (free w/limitations) Blackmagic Design Fusion 8 (free; Mac version announced this week at NAB2015. Will be out within July-September 2015 timeframe) Resolve Lite 11/12 (free; version 12 coming out soon) This one is open source, node-based and doesn't require a discrete GPU. Natron does all it's processing and rendering on the CPU (so this one is perfect if, like me, you have a Dual Core i3/i5 that only has intel HD graphics...Mac Mini, anyone?). It is using an OpenFX architecture, as well, so many commercial OpenFX plug-ins can be installed in Natron (btw, it's pronounced "Ney-tron". But it is also relatively new...and potentially very powerful. Natron 1.2.1 (open-source; CPU based) These two are not free and are layer-based, which might be easier to work with if one has never done Animation/Motion Graphics before. Not to say that they don't have learning curves, but--It's been my personal experience that--most persons with experience with layer-based software for static graphics have a common point of reference starting with one that has it in the UI for motion graphics. Which is why many After Effects users were Illustrator/Photoshop users first. HitFilm 3 Pro ($299) Apple Motion 5 ($50) I didn't include Blender here because I was strictly keeping it to Motion Graphics, not 3D...however, Blender is also an alternative that can be considered in this list. Although it's motion graphics solutions (by way of add-ons) also tend to be node-based. Of the solutions mentioned above--if it helps--I have used (and still advocate) Motion, HitFilm (for the "Atomic particle generator" and the true 3D compositing of 3DS, LWO and OBJ models), Blender and Natron. Hope this helps.
