  1. I have a table in the master table with a bottom border set in each cell. In the pages linked with the master applied, it shows the table in layers as unlinked attibutes Text and Text Frame. This is so you can style the cell text & cell frame independently from the master. Except you can't change the bottom border. Selecting and cell with a border in the page shows no cell styling contextual controls and everything in the Table Window is disabled. Applying a Table format where the borders are removed also does nothing. Removing the borders in the master won't work either because they are unlinked and I can' apply the master as the unlinked text content means it just makes a mess of duplicate content. Is this a bug that you cannot edit the cell border in an unlinked table from the master table? Either that or its a terrible UX if there is a way as its impossible to discover? I would think that you could individually modify the unlinked cells but none of the cell formatting controls are enabled.
  2. I can no longer see the page layout, master pages etc in the left column. How do I fix that?
  3. I'm trying to figure out the best way to make letter-size half-fold stand up cards in Publisher. By this I mean the common situation where you take a letter size sheet or similar and fold it in half so it's shaped like a little tent, then stand it up on a table to use as a seating label or, in my case, as a reminder of task/agenda type bullet points or game/exercise rules, etc. The problem is that I can't seem to find a way with Publisher to make this work very nicely. Currently I have a master spread that looks like this: But I can only get this by creating a master spread with "facing pages" and rotating the text frame in the top page upside down. Then i can't view the pages as individual pages and even if I did then half of them would be upside-down. What I would like to be able to do is: 1) Have a master portrait spread, say 8.5x11", where I can rotate entire landscape 8.5x5.5" pages whichever way is needed. 2) View individual landscape 8.5x5.5" pages in their correct right-side-up orientation. 3) Have those pages properly mapped to the spread and printed at the correct orientation for the fold(s). Let me know if I'm missing anything but right now I can seem to find any way to get arbitrary orientations on "facing" pages for arbitrary folding schemes without having to type upside down or rotate my view all the time.
  4. Summary There's an issue where new layers are created within the masterpage layer, though you are not able to edit this layer when the masterpage content is not detatched. Steps to reproduce Create a masterpage with nested layers and a couple of objects. Apply this masterpage to a random page. Detatch the masterpage content. Move one of the objects before commiting them by clicking "finish". Select an item of the masterpage layer, such as the picture frame. When I create a new layer using the shortcut and/ or button with the masterpage item still selected, the new layer is created within the masterpage layer. 2022-09-17 10-09-48.mp4 Observation Notice how the new layers are created within the masterpage layer. However, you cannot edit or use the layers, because you would need to detach the masterpage content. Expected result The layer should be created outside (above) the masterpage layer, because you cannot use it otherwise. And if you want to use the layer, it takes additional steps to detach them so they can be used. Info This is on Windows 19044, Publisher version 1.10.5.1342.
  5. When a child Master is used on the document, the right side bleed of the parent Master on PDF export will be cut off. master sample.pdf master sample.afpub
  6. I am using the latest version of Affinity Publisher downloaded yesterday, but this is a problem that I have been wrestling with for some time. At the moment I have a Publisher document for the WEB that has pages measuring 1600px wide X 1200px in landscape. I want to add a number of pages that are 1600px wide X 2400px. Whatever I do, the settings just will not take ? What am I missing or doing wrong ?
  7. While waiting for the next publisher beta - I thought I'd test this bug in Designer Beta (1.9.1.1) to see if this one has been squashed yet, as it was causing me grief a few days ago in pub and didn't get any comeback on my report - the bug is still in the latest Designer beta and behaves exactly the same as pub beta 1.9.1.952 so I'm guessing it may still be in the next Pub beta, which effects master page items disappearing when zoomed in - I've made a vid grab to show how 1.8.6 works as expected and Beta 1.9.1.1 has the bug: Screen_Grab_2021-02-16_at_15_02_26.mov
  8. TL;DR: Is there a way to add a background image to a document using a picture frame while avoiding the picture immediately becoming detached from the master? I ran into an issue where detaching an element on a master page resulted in the same element being detached when the styles are applied. It's a bit tricky to explain, but it basically boils down to problems with child masters carrying over too much information. Step 1: Created a master, on which I based all of my subsequent masters (Level 1). At some point I tested adding a background here and changed my mind. Only partially relevant to this conversation, but it does have some impact. Step 2: Created a child template by applying that master to another template. I have three templates created this way, each with a different background texture. (Level 2) Step 3: Applied Level 2 masters to child masters for slight variations among pages that share a textured background. (Level 3) Step 4: Created a few pages based on Level 3 masters. I didn't realize this until later, but adding a photo to a picture frame detaches the element from the master, and this change carries over across subsequent masters/pages. I see no way to fix this without entirely recreating the document, unless it is possible to "reattach" an element that was detached from the master. In the attached images, you can see that my change at Level 2 doesn't carry into the Level 3 master or the page based on the master. In other words, once a frame becomes detached from the master, it also becomes detached on child masters and pages.
  9. Hi, I am on windows10 with Publisher v1.8.5.703, I have a document fully finished . Unfortunately the artist who worked on it made it 18 inch x 12 inch while it needs to be 17 inch x11 inch , due to some misunderstanding about 1 inch margins... Luckily for me , he used all kinds of containers(frame and text boxes) for text and nothing is freely floating. All I need to do is resize the masters' dimensions, scale a few frames and be done with it. (we have like 5 master pages) However I cant. I double click on a master and then click on spread setup, select all spreads and change the dimensions. The software freezes, can only be shut down with task manager. Is there a solution to this ? I dont want to turn an hour of work tops to a week of work. Thanks
  10. How can I change a Master size and apply it to all pages without changing content layout/scale on all pages? Somehow all content will be scaled.
  11. Using Publisher 1.7.3 on macOS 10.15.3 (Catalina). Within a new document, having the default Master page (Portrait) I created a second Master page in Landscape orientation, yet all new document pages created from this Master page appear in Portrait orientation. The resolution is to right-click the new page thumbnail and select Spread Properties, when the Portrait box is seen to be checked. Unchecking this box sets the page (correctly) to Landscape orientation. Checking the (Landscape) Master page in the same way (via "Spread Properties") shows the Portrait box to be unchecked. Why is this happening, and how can it be avoided, please? A sample file is attached. Regards, Tony Moss Wrong Page Orientation.afpub
  12. I have "Master A" and "Master B". I duplicate "Master A" and a new master page gets name "Master B", but there is already "Master B". It should be called "Master C" or "Master A-1", otherwise I have two master pages with the same name and it’s not a duplicated one. It may get confusing when masters looks similar, because it will look like I duplicated "Master B" not "Master A".
  13. I changed the font of some text fields in the master (the whole field, not inside the field). My document has already 16 pages, all referring to this master, but the copy text was already inserted. Now I changed the font in the master, and thought that the font change will affect all layout pages (at least those where I did not explicitly change the font within the text field). But this did not work. If I re-apply the master, all my copy text in the 16 pages is set back to the text of the master! Am I missing something?
  14. I have master pages with a table. Pages have master applied and then custom information input on them. Discovered error on table ( an extra line on the border on a few cells) I edit the Master but the page does not update. If I clear the master (and lose the custom info I've input) and re-apply it is fine. Is there a proper procedure to force refresh pages with masters applied without losing the custom text I've input? Unchecking "replace" existing creates a bolded effect on the whole page. Update 1: Fiddled more and its as if a large chunk of my pages lost their "link" to their master. So when Master is updated nothing updates on the page. My current doc the 1st 2 pages update but the subsequent pages do not. I manually updated 30 of my pages so far by clearing and reapplying master but this cannot be the only way to "refresh" the links. Cannot reproduce the issue yet on another. Update 2: Updated to 1.7.2 still same issue Update 3: Side note that when I duplicate a master that has already been renamed - the duplicate has the exact same name as the original -- seems it would be useful that the duplicate indicates COPY or other indicator so that the wrong master is not edited by accident. If you do not rename the Master it does change the Name for example I just created Master X and when duplicating it made Master Y. Update 4: I had a thought to create an additional master that had all my workbook text in it, then overlay (by not replacing existing master) on the 1st master on each page, which would allow me to quickly "re-apply" the necessary master to fix my original issue, so I created a new master and created a few dummy "Options" in my layers (Option 1, Option 2, Option 3) to enable as needed once applied to the appropriate page. However once this new master is applied to the page I am unable to change the options as they are greyed out and seems to be permanently locked. So thats a no go at this moment. Thanks!
  15. Windows 10 Home 1903, Publisher 1.7.2.471. This is a bit of a weird one and probably won’t come up in normal use but I thought I’d mention it. Edit: “Problem” fixed. It wasn’t a problem, just me not knowing what I was doing. See posts below for an explanation. I have a document where I added some basic text and a blue rectangle to the default master spread. Then I went to the normal page and edited the master spread ‘detached’ and changed the blend mode of the text to Erase. Then I went back to the master spread and gave the text an Outer Glow. I then went back to the normal page and added two new rectangular layers. Then I moved the master spread layer above the two rectangles and I am now in the position you see my GIF (AFPUB also attached). The Erase mode of the detached text – which is still attached to the master spread size/position-wise – knocks out the colour of the yellow and green rectangles as expected but the glow is still drawn below the two coloured rectangles. This doesn’t seem right to me. Surely the master spread layers and their related effects should be drawn within the sequence defined by the Layers panel. (The blue rectangle is fine and seems to be drawn as it should be.) Is this a bug or am I missing something? effects-always-drawn-first.afpub
  16. If you change the displayed/active artboard of a multi artboard Designer file placed on a master page, this change won't be reflected on regular pages. It always shows the artboard that was first visible upon placing the file. It's possible this also happens with other types of multipage documents (Affinity Photo, PDFs) but I only tested with Designer files. Steps to reproduce: Open Affinity Designer Create a new document with 2 Artboards Draw a purple circle on the first artboard and a blue square in the second, just so they're instantly recognizable Save it somewhere, you can now close Designer, it won't be used anymore Create a new Publisher file, check Default Master so a master page is already applied to any pages added Add a few pages to the document, let's say 6, just so the issue is more evident Double click Master A in the Pages panel so you can add elements to it Place the Designer document you saved on step 4, by default it should show the first artboard, the purple circle Notice the purple circle is correctly displayed on all pages where the Master A is applied Back on the Master A, select the placed file and use the context toolbar to change to the second artboard You should now see the blue square on the master page as expected Notice that the blue square is not being shown on the pages where the master is applied, instead you continue to see the purple circle This is not just a visual bug, if you export a PDF all pages will indeed have the purple circle instead of the blue square Thanks!
  17. Hello, shouldn't the master page apply any changes to the rest of the document that I have previously applied it? I have this document with 50 pages and applied the master on them on creation, but after I changed the master page I had to go and left click on a random page-> apply master to all Isn't linked the whole time? Sound like a pain if you have a multi masters document if you have to go find each one of the pages the master is applied to change it.
  18. I created a project with facing pages and spread master pages in Beta 249. The master pages have headers and footers, and because it is facing pages, the inner and outer margins for each page is different, allowing for the binding. When such master pages are applied to the project pages, they work fine--until you add a single page. When you do, APub will add a complete second master page spread without consideration for left or right page. In my case I added a new page in the left page location. I expected the right page to remain a right page, along with its header and footer and margins. However, although the new left page looks correct, the right page is simply the left page moved over, so margins, headers, footers, and any vertical guide lines are still left-page, but now on the right. I hate to bring up PP again, but PP is smart enough to know to apply the right page part of the master spread to the right page when a new page is added. In APub, you would need to add two pages and reflow your entire document. This is a deal breaker considering I write novel that are upwards of 300 pages. Recreate as follows: Create a new facing page project. Create a master page spread with different margins for left and right pages to allow for binding. Add vertical guide lines (I use them for marking out bleed because it just works better.) Add different header and footer text frames. (I use a text frame for page number on outside edge of pages, one for title of novel on left page, and one for author name on right page.) Add 10 or so blank pages to the project. Assign the master spread to each project spread. Add a text frame for page contents on each page. Link groups of frames and fill with text. (I copy and paste in novel chapter contents from Scrivener and paste into text frames before linking.) Add a new single page say after page 3, or 5, or 7 to allow for either additional content or reflowing of existing content. You will notice that the new left page is OK, but the old left page that has been moved to be the right page of the spread will still show all left page headers, footers, guides, and margins. If you look at the layers, you will see two complete master spread layers, but there is no way to tell either to be a right page.
  19. Using Publisher 1.7.0.249 beta. On a new document with facing pages, I set the margins on the master pages (spread), and applied the master to all pages. The margins propagated nicely to all pages. After a while, working with the page content, the inner margins on the master pages disappeared. (See attachment), but remained on alla normal pages. Reapplying the master on all pages, didn't change anything. The inner margin must be there, but not visible.
  20. I started with A4 page size in the Master. After creating some 12 pages I decided to change to 12" x 12". So I changed the Master to those dimensions. No matter how I did it, I could not get that change "applied" to any of the following pages (context menus "Apply to" at the Master itself, and context menus at each page or multiple pages). I had to manually change the "old" pages to the new size. After making the change to the Master all "add"ed pages have the correct size. Maybe I'm missing something?
  21. Hi ! I am a newbie. Is there a way to have a file of personal Master pages usable in any document ? So that I do not have to recreate over and over the same Master page. Thanks
  22. I have two Publisher documents that I would like to merge, or certain pages (a whole document of regular pages, master pages or any variation) that I'd like to add / import from one into the other document. Again, any variation on it being a full Publisher document, a PDF or just master pages, but I'd like some way to re-use master pages without having to do a document A copy, open Document B to paste, then back to Document A to copy next master and back to Document B to paste ... times however many master pages etc that I have. Thanks!
  23. I am using a MAC desktop, OS Mojave. After downloading the latest 1.7 Beta version I opened a document started with former versions and the pages numbers were off. On the side panel the numbers under the pages are different from the numbers on the main view of the pages. This is important, since pages on the left should be pair numbers and on the left, odd numbers. On the side panel they are ok. I think this was not a problem before.
