  1. hello, can i adjust the "magic wand" in Affinity Photo to stop at transparent pixels? Or more general, can i set conditions for properties values to be taken into account when magic wand chooses or ignores a pixel? Best Regards, Lars
  2. In my workflow, I often have to take an image that I've created in another program (a 3D program). I set the background color there to be distinct from the object I want so that I can select it and make it transparent. In AD, the process (the best one I could find) is the switch to Pixel, Rasterize, then Select -> Select Sampled Colors. When I select the background color, the marquee does indeed seem to properly select the object. Unfortunately, it doesn't really work this way. If I cut (intending to cut out the background) color is lost from the object as well. If I invert selection and cut (intending to cut the object for use elsewhere in AD) some of the background comes as if some of its color were still present. I want the marquee to represent a clean separation between object and background so I can place my images with other layers in a final graphic file. Essentially, I'm trying to treat "Select Sampled Colors" like magic wand. Is there a way to do this? The invert selection option seems to work better except that I still get a grayish, partially transparent box background instead of a fully transparent background.
  3. Hello, So I have an immensely complex vector map I'm working on for a large, 3-4,000 person conference I'm helping coordinate. I recently switched completely over to Affinity, but I am realizing there doesn't seem to be a vector-based magic wand tool or select similar functionality in any of Affinity's apps. Is this still in development, or is there any way to accomplish this? Please advise, as this is a huge deal-breaker for complex vector artwork. I imagine most designers would agree such functionality can be essential.
  4. I'm sure that I'm not alone in wanting this feature. Coming from a background of working in Photoshop (I'm not really a vector-person), I absolutely love using Affinity Designer's Pixel Persona. The organic/natural media-esque brushes have always been my go-to, and I've been using them in Designer a bunch. On the flip side, I use the Draw Persona more for layout and lettering. For this reason I think it would be really handy to have the Magic Wand Tool (the same as in Photo) in the Designer Pixel Persona. So far the selection brush doesn't really do the trick, and using the lasso (while very useful) to manually select areas can become a bit tedious. Just putting this out there for consideration.
  5. Hi. I replaced Photoshop with Affinity Photo. I ran into something strange. If I copy and image online to the clipboard and create a new document from the clipboard...if I try and use the magic wand tool on the image, it doesn't do anything. Am I doing something wrong? Or is this a bug? Thank you, Carlos Affinity Photo Windows 10 - 64bit 32GB of RAM - i7 - Nvidia 1080
  6. I have just been using ADe on my Ipad Pro and noticed there is a flood selection tool (magic wand). But checking ADe on my Mac I could not find it?? Why is it not there and will this be changed in the next version? It would be very logical and useful to have it there and always wondered why it wasn't
  7. Up until now I have been a PaintShop Pro (PSP) and Photoshop (PS) user and was expecting Affinity Photo to support the Magic Wand function. Instead, Photo uses 'Brushes' to do the same thing, but I haven't encountered any tutorials that show me how to use your function with the same level of accuracy and precision that PS and PSP do. For instance, whilst selecting parts of an image for applying effects/actions to, I am finding that even when the colours are dramatically different, it overlaps the boundary even when the mouse isn't close to these areas. Maybe I am just not used to Photo, or I haven't found the controls that will enable me to 'pin down' how critically I want your alternative function to work. If you know PS or PSP, you will know by using it, just what I mean, so can you enlighten me on how I get your function to work as precisely as the Magic Wand does when using PS and PSP? I am currently trialling Photo, so a prompt reply would be appreciated, as in other sespects it seems to be pretty good.
  8. The Marquee and Lasso tools have a checkbox for Antialias, but I don't see that option for the Magic Wand. Is it hidden somewhere else or is there a global preference I need to change?
  9. Affinity Photo for the iPad Pro is just great and I hope Designer is coming soon as well. Until now I had only used AP to edit photos, but finally I got around to try it out as a drawing app and it rocks! But nothing as good that it can’t be better so here’s my list of features I’d like to see. One is quite simple: add a line tool to shapes. There is the arrow tool but then I need to select none for the arrowheads and if it had been the other way round, I’d be content. The reason I ask for it is because I often add a thin line to frame my cartoons, for instance. Procreate has a solution for it; you just draw a line and press and hold and it snaps into a straight line. But since iOS support a ruler why not add that? Well, it wouldn’t work on the desktop version or for other platforms, but a ruler would be handy as a support when drawing straight lines. Then I’d like to see something like Photoshop’s Magic Wand - a really quick selection tool. Click. Select. (And now I remembered a useful feature in Procreate; to be able to select a layer as a reference layer.) Finally I would like to see a do not disturb mode, a clean sheet or drawing mode. By that I mean something like the full screen mode you have, where menus go away - but they snap back too easily! When I have chosen my tool I’m all absorbed when I’m drawing and I work fast and intensely. Then it’s frustrating when all the menus pop have or I inadvertently touch some feature I don’t want. If by clicking the little icon in the upper right corner really meant that everything but the canvas go away and stay away until you click it back again, it would be great. And then the adjustments for the brushes should go away, too. That was all and forgive me if this was posted in a wrong place and feel free to move it where it should be.
  10. Hi all, I recently downloaded the Affinity Photo trial and am thinking of switching from Photoshop to it. I am long PS user and am very used to the tools in it. One thing I could not figure out to do (and I'm not sure if it's possible) is to select all layers when using the Wand tool. That's an option in Photoshop. It allows the Magic Wand tool to look at all layers combined when selecting something. Is this possible in Affinity Photo? If so, how do I do it? Thanks, Colin
  11. I would like to change a color of my image to a specific color using a layer adjustment but it seems that none of the adjustments offer an input section to change the color using a color code (RGB). How could I go about doing this? Thank you.
  12. What I'm missing is the function of making a vector from selection. Let's say you have a bitmap (black shape on white back). With the Magic Wand Tool in Fireworks you could click anywhere in the black area, it automatically selected it with marching ants, and from the context menu you could choose "make vector from selection". I need this desperately! thanks.
  13. Hi! I am a professional designer that has always loved Adobe Illustrator and primarily work in vector. However, I detest Adobe's new subscription model and am very attracted to the price and reviews of Affinity Designer. I downloaded the trial version last night and tried watching You Tube & Vimeo tutorials, but could not find anything like the Magic Wand Tool. I use this tool every single day and cannot live without it. Am I missing something? Is there not a way to select all of one color? The color selection abilities seemed very elementary and more similar to Photoshop which I'm not digging. I was also having trouble dragging over a group of elements to select and Group. They would not select. In my AI files, they were already grouped, but for some reason became UnGrouped when imported into Affinity. It will take me FOREVER to go in and manually click each little vector detail. Help! -Lauren
  14. While freelancing, I find that this option greatly improves my productivity and would like to have this option added within the existing tool as a simply checkbox if possible. Currently, if I were to implement a similar workflow with the existing options I would be adding 3x the amount of time to create the same selection. Photoshop Magic Wand with Sample all layers turned on click and select the area that I which to color in the line art.Affinity Photo Select the appropriate layer where the line work is present select area to be colored re-select layer with color I've recorded a short video showing how the application of this feature would greatly help improve workflow in the context of background painting for the animation field. ***In animation, it's important to keep different elements within their separate layers in order for the painting style to be repeatable for multiple artists. It is for this reason, that all of the elements can't be flattened together*** https://youtu.be/K70Es8cGihA
  15. I am started use Affinity Designer trial version. It's very cool product, but i can't work without normal "Magic Wand" tool. Adobe Photoshop have "magic wand" tool with selecting color and setting tolerance. I want use only Affinity Designer but can't this without "magic wand" and bug when connect or disconnect thunderbolt display to macbook. Help me find the equivalent tool in Affinity Designrer, please? Thank!
  16. I am trying out trial version of Affinity Designer. The features list says there is a selection tool similar to magic wand (in photo shop) called selection brush. I don't see any selection tools- just black arrow move tool or art board. Is there no selection tools in the trial version or is there setting I need to fix? I am using Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 I am just trying to fill in some black line drawings (purchased eps vector file from stock site) with color- nothing fancy. https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/designer/full-feature-list/
