  1. So I bought my Mac version through the app store from Apple and I read online that the license lets you install on both platforms but how does that work? I do not have a logon like you get when you buy direct. Am I stuffed?
  2. On the Mac, I opened an image in Apple Photos, then used the extensions to open in Affinity Photo. I did a whole bunch of stuff making layers and adjustments and masks. I knew I could save back to Apple Photos as a flattened image, but after I was working on it I realized that I'd like to keep the .afphoto file. I couldn't figure out how to do that. Is it not possible (if approached in the order I describe) or did I miss a button? Save As was greyed out. I know that if I opened Affinity Photo first, and then pointed to my media library I could have done it, but curious if the workflow I describe could have worked. It's easier for me to find an image (64K photos) inside Apple Photos first than it is to start the other way around. And while I'm yapping about this, I recreated my workflow using the iPad and the end effect was WAY better than the one I did on the Mac!
  3. Hello, good morning. I have bought Affinity for Windows because I have Windows on my computer at home. But i will buy a Mac soon, is there an option to download Affinity for Mac also, if I already have a product code? If not it's really a shame that I have to pay for a Windows version, and pay also for a Mac version. Regards.
  4. The Save History with Document is a brilliant function, that allows to screencast and build clean making-ofs. I noticed though that there's a cap around the hundreds or so; the first steps in the list disappear progressively. On purpose?
  5. this example is from the latest AD beta but is the same for AP when you click "preferences" (having the hand tool selected), the dialog does not open until you "release" the "click" therefore it takes longer to "klick" the dialog than to hit "cmd + ;" in constrast: the adjustments layer dialog (the circle down in the layers panel) pops up immediately upon the "key press down" which makes it feel more snappy can this be enabled for other popups/ dialog/ persona switching/ switching tools as well? cheers PS this may be related https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/44673-toggle-off-layers-lag/#comment-222876
  6. Hey guys, I've got a quick question. On the Screenshot-1 I used the gradient tool to fill pixel with a bitmap and on the other one to fill text with a bitmap. My question is, why can't I repeat the bitmap in the pixel like with the text, because that's what I need. Thanks a lot. Best regards, Denis
  7. Hello there, I would like to know if there is any trick to avoid pixelated images from retina screens of Mac? when I am designing a banner I always have the "Retina pixel view mode" option activated but once I upload it to the web page the image looks very pixelated. Does anyone know why this happens? Thanks and greetings, Eve.
  8. Hi! Dowloaded the trial of photo a few days ago and really like it so far, very close to a purchase! But this little bug is itching my eyes... When developing a raw cr2 file and using the brush tool I am not able to paint on the upper part of the image :( I do use apple raw processor. The same does not appear when using affinity raw processor. Is there a fix on this in the non trial version?
  9. I just finished up a project on the iPad with the newest version of Affinity Photo for the iPad. Worked fine, but the Mac version (1.5) will not open the file and gives the error message "The file includes features from a later version of Affinity." Is there a work around (not knowing what features it is referring to ) or am I stuck until a newer version for the Mac is released???
  10. Hi, I have recently purchased Affinity Photo and have been quite happy with what I can achieve with it. I'm a photographer and I normally go through the workflow of Iridient X-Transformer --> Lightroom --> Affinity Photo on my PC. Affinity Photo is only used for stacking and tone mapping purposes using TIF files generated by Lightroom. More and more I am finding myself going through the same performance pain points where I am basically sitting there for minutes waiting for Affinity Photo to do something (which I will get into below). Last night I downloaded the trial version of Affinity Photo on my Macbook Pro and did a few tests. Turns out Affinity Photo consistently performs up to 3 times faster on the MBP using the same set of files. I am hoping someone with more experience here can give me some advice on how I could improve the performance of Affinity Photo on PC. Below are the specs for my PC and MBP: PC Intel i7-4790K OC'd @ 4.40 Ghz (with a large Noctua air cooler) 16GB DDR3 RAM @ 2400 MHz with XMP profile 1 enabled (G.Skill Trident-X 8Gx2 F3-2400C10D-16GTX) Nvidia 1080 GPU (a Gigabyte OC model) Macbook Pro (Mid 2015, 15'') Intel i7 @ 2.5 Ghz 16GB DDR3 @ 1600 MHz AMD Radeon R9 M370X + Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB As you can see the PC's spec is significantly higher than the macbook's. It is winter here at the moment (<0C outside) and the system is well ventilated (has no problem in 144hz gaming) so there is no thermal limitation. The photos that I edit generally sit on a NAS. The PC is connected to the NAS via ethernet and the MBP via wireless AC. I have uploaded a sample of 4 RAF files generated by a Fujifilm X-T2 onto Dropbox. Here's the link. To test the performance. I always repeated the following steps and timed each one on each machine: Create a new stack in Affinity Photo using the 4 RAF files Set Live Stack Group blending to minimum Rasterize the Live Stack Group Tone map the pixel layer Here are some observations I made from the tests: Affinity Photo loads up faster on the MBP than the PC. Creating a Live Stack Group is consistently quicker on the MBP. Live Stack group blend mode live preview is a lot faster on the MBP than the PC. Live Stack group rasterizing is significantly faster on the MBP than the PC (10sec vs minutes) PC tone mapping consistently takes 00:50 ~ 1:30 to process. MBP tone mapping consistently takes 00:20 ~ 00:22 to process. CPU heavy tasks will utilise 100% of the CPU on the MBP but only 60~80% on the PC in some cases. There is no CPU throttling on the PC at all (winter + large cooler) GPU utilisation never goes above 1% on the PC. There is very little disk/network bandwidth utilitsation during any of these tasks. All of the above are true regardless of which renderer I use on PC and whether I have hyper-threading enabled or not. Having the RAF files on SSD's instead of the NAS made no differences either. I have tried the latest 1.6 beta and it made no differences in performance on PC using the same steps above. I don't understand why a PC with much better hardware is being out performed by a Macbook by 3 times as much and generally have a much smoother experience... I am getting to the point where I am seriously considering using the MBP as a photo editing machine but that would mean some significant investment into repurchasing software licenses and some new hardware so I could actually dock the MBP to my PC monitors and input peripherals and I would rather not have to do that. Any help is much appreciated! EDIT: more info on the spec's and additional notes on the observations.
  11. I purchased the IOS version of Affinity photo for my iPad Pro. Does the Mac version do anything more or different, should I spring for both versions?
  12. Hi guys! I've had Affinity Designer for a while and I love it. Unfortunately my Mac Book bit the dust recently and transitioned to a Windows Laptop. Is there any way to get AD for my new laptop without having to repurchase the app?
  13. I have bought Affinity Designer for Windows. If I was to make the transition to Mac would I have to re-purchase the program? or would my product key still work for Mac as well. Please And Thank You
  14. I am leaving a PC platform and buying a MAC. Can my Serif Photo Plus X8 be moved intact to the new Mac? I am surprised to find that Serif is no longer...received no word of this change.
  15. Hi, I just downloaded the 10 day free trial of Affinity Photo for Mac OS X. My Mac meets the system requirements. I am running 10.8.5. 16GB Ram. 2.8 GHz Core i7. The download went smoothly and I dragged it to the Applications folder. However, when I tried to open the program it first did a verification (no error message) then nothing happens. When I double click on the Affinity icon in the Applications folder nothing happens there either. I tried to reinstall but no luck with that. Any suggestions? I would really like to try it out before the trial ends. Thanks!
  16. Hello All, Your help please. I have tried to download the trial version of Affinity Photo onto my mac pro (late 2013), running with the macos Sierra (v 10.12.1). The download is shown in my "downloads" folder, but when I double click to open the file all that happens is that a "new tab" opens - nothing else - your help and advice please
  17. I recently dumped Mac (and Adobe) for Windows/Affinity and spent big money on a HP Z840 with 2 x Xeon 2.1GHz processors each with 8 cores and 16 multi-threaded cores, (totalling 32 CPU cores running as 2.1GHz) 32GB RAM, Nvidea GTX 1080i Video Card, running on an ultra fast HP SSD (3000MB/s read speed/2000MB/s write speed). A friend came over today and we compared speed of Affinity Photo opening a very large PSD file, and saving a JPEG of that file. He had his 4 year old Macbook Pro running an old 4 core i7 at 2.6GHz, with 8 multi-threaded cores. The result was embarrassing.....His old laptop opened the 8GB file much quicker than my machine which has more cores and a way faster SSD. Saving the JPEG file was also much faster on the Mac. What I noticed was that the windows machine uses only a single core for the opening of a file, and only one core for the saving of the file, whereas the Mac used four cores. Why? We then compared the speed when doing a gausian blur on the file, we started both at the same time and all 32 cores on my Windows machine ran at 100% and the progress bar flew to the end and sat there doing seemingly nothing, (just when I thought it was going to annihilate the Mac) but I noticed it then switched back to using a single core to do what exactly I do not know, but it allowed the old Mac to catch up, making the time difference minimal. The Mac was using all 8 cores for this process. So, my question is, WHY is the Windows version seemingly limited to single core for certain tasks, making it's performance hobbled on a machine like the Z840? My preference for ANYTHING I do is to have the app I am working in making full use of all resources on my machine and Affinity is not doing that at all times, yet you allow it on Mac, makes no sense....what am I missing?
  18. Can any you fine folk direct me on how to delete a file which has not been Saved-As yet? This is the file I was working with that froze the UI on my AD app as reported in my previous post ('Frozen Functions - most menu items disabled'). Regarding my 'frozen screen' in Affinity Designer - it appears to be a corrupted file, if possible it is probably self-induced. Attached are a couple of screenshots, one showing the screen BEFORE and the other showing the name of the file that I can now see after Force-Quitting AD and getting things moving again. The file name is now visible to me and reads 'CVlogoStockholm(currupt:pixelates).svg' as seen on screenshot-1. My question has now shifted from how to unfreeze, to how I can get rid of/delete this file. I don't want to go near it for obvious reasons. So far I've only tried dragging it into Trash from this 'Open Recent File' drop-down but having never been Save-As'd, it doesn't move. Suggestions? Thanks as always folks. I appreciate your time and instruction. -Christo *working on a 2017 MacBook Pro with Affinity Designer 1.5.4*
  19. Hey guys, hope you've all been well. Thanks to lots of great instruction from the AD community I've been able to learn much more while working on Affinity Designer. I've got a weird problem now and I'm not sure if it's due to something I did or what. Working on a new MacBook Pro with AD 1.5.4, I was playing/selecting from the colors panel and suddenly lost functionality when trying to select items from the anywhere, by any means. 90% of my menu options are disabled/grayed out and I'm unable to quit Designer in order to do a restart of my computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The AD app is basically frozen, yet I can flip to Affinity Photo and have full functionality. Any advice? Thanks in advance. -Christo
  20. I purchased Affinity Photo and Designer through the Mac app store a while ago. Can I create an account on your website by clicking the 'purchase for mac' button, verify my previous purchases, and then re-download the Mac versions on a windows PC so I can have the .dmg images available for use via USB? Thanks for your time.
  21. Hi Team, I am having problems using windows affinity designer and windows affinity designer. They don't open when it's used on Windows and then attempted to open on Mac.. Is there a work around for this? I can RDP into my windows machine, but then I get issues with "Windows Aero" - Agh! Headaches!!! HELP!! Thank you. Lee
  22. I have a simple question. I download a sample from the affinity designer welcome page, but I don't know how to delete the sample from the mac. Please give me a hand. Thank you.
  23. Hi, Tried to download the free t10 trial today. Seemed to have had a few problems after the download and when the program fires up, a screen pops up and says, 'Trial Expired'. I've tried to download it again, several time, cleared the cache, emptied trash, restarted the computer, cleared the download and browsing history and still, same message. Any ideas how I can get passed this or is there a glitch? I've attached a screen shot. Thanks, Jon.
  24. I've tried manually dragging them apart and back to their original locations, as well as searching the 'View' and other main menus but haven't yet found how to uncouple them. Additionally, when I select something from the Color-panel...it 'leaps' in front of the now combination Layer/Transform-panel. I'd love to know the 'How & Why' to this as it may come in handy in the future. But for now, I'd like to return the 'studio' to its original default panel set. *AD 1.5.4 on a MacBook Pro* Would someone please enlighten me? Thanks much, -Christo
  25. 'morning guys/gals, 2 quick questions please (and thanks): 1) in the image below (thumbnail and file attached) you will see a logo image that was originally on a black rectangular background. I cropped the L and R sides to get rid of portions of the background so as to create an even-ish border. How can I get rid of the still-remaining blue lines outlining the original boundaries of said black rectangle background? ...and, 2) in order to distort/stretch this image (logo portion), don't I simply 'convert to curves' the grouped layers then click/drag whichever node I'd like to 'pull' on? My goal is to be able to manipulate the image by independently move nodes to create perspective changes in some cases, or make the image look curved in other cases (as if on a cylindrical surface such as a telephone pole, etc). Does the image/layers need to first be flattened. Big thanks from a newbie! -Christo CVlogoBlueCropLines.afdesign
