  1. Hi there. After seeing a video with Nick Page using Lumenzia in Photoshop, I was inspired to do luminosity masks in a new and much more customizable way than the much used 5 levels of brigths, midtones, and darks. With these macros, when you create a light, midtones, or dark mask, it doesn't create the mask immediately, but applies 3 adjustments: a B&W, a Curves, and a Levels adjustment. Now you can adjust the three fine tune whatwhat you want in your selection. And using B&W adjustment you can more easily target specific colors. The only difference between the 3 that the curves layer is inverted in the darks, and peaks at the halfway point in the midtones mask. When you are happy with the selection, select the "Complete" macro, which will create a selection, and a new spare channel from the selection. Hope you find this useful. 2. HI, I have found two different ways to make "Luminosity masks" 1) Creating a b&w image and then duplicating It using "multiply" mode (recursively) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0rXKW5b9qM&t=333s 2) Selecting by luminosity the original layer and then duplicating it (recursively) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6sIiNfSBnv0&feature=share Can someone explain the differences? Which one do you use? I would like to use one of them to create masks for exposures merging. Thank you
  3. Hi, I was watching the video "Luminosity Masks from Layers". At the beginning of the video James says to click Alt, Control and left click on the pixel layer in order to create a luminosity mask (on a Mac) but he did not mention what is the corresponding Menu option. I do not use key shortcuts to access features. I prefer using the menu options. So what is the Menu equivalent of that key shortcut? I tried using Select/Tonal Range/Highlights but I got a different result from using the key shortcut so that is not it. Also more broadly, I would like to suggest that anytime someone mentions key shortcuts on a video to do something, please, please also mention what is the Menu option that corresponds to that shortcut. Not everyone likes to use key shortcuts which are much more memory intensive than knowing what is the Menu option. Thanks!
  4. Hi, I’m Relatively new to Affinity Photo (both on iPad & Mac), and have the same problem on both platforms. I hope i’m posting this question in the right place. I’m trying to make a mask that targets the sky in the attached image (including the small areas in the roof parapet and the gaps in the trees). I have: Created a luminosity mask (see image 2), that I now want to adjust from being grey scale (see image 3) to pure black & white l’ve created two child layers to the mask (curves and levels) and set them both to target the Alpha channels - see image 4 (I know I can paint on these masks to further target the areas they are applied to) The problem that I have is that I can’t find a way to visualise purely the mask when I’m adjusting the curves / levels layer. When I put the mask layer into ‘Solo’ mode - I can only see the original luminosity mask, and can’t see the impact of any changes to the mask that are caused by the curves / levels adjustments. Is there a way to do this, or am I missing something? Is there a problem with the workflow I’m using? Any advise, hints, tips or pointers will be much appreciated. Thanks..... Bernie
  5. I would love the ability to preview in black and white (as masks) the range that is selected using the blend options, then I can load it to a selection and use it to manually blend images. This will be also useful if you make minor adjustments and would like to see in more detail the areas affected by that adjustment. I would also like to see this extended to the select menu, so we can make range selections using curves. If this feature will be implemented luminosity masks macros will be a thing of the past.
  6. Hi everyone, I put up a blog post about using blend ranges in the way people often use luminosity masks. You can check it out here: http://theeagerlearner.com/blog/ Hope it's of some use to you & cheers, Simon
  7. Please consider a luminosity mask palette in a future update.
  8. Hey guys, I am looking for a possibility to create multiple Luminosity Masks with channels, so that I have several channels for lights, shadows... The problem is, that you can't multiply/intersect selections like in Photoshop (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4mG6vlJFNQ). And I do not mean the overlapping function. Thanks for Your help!
