  2. Hello, dear developers. First of all - I like your program, it is more comfortable than illustrator or Corel draw. But thing is - Designer doesn't have the required functionality to normally offset and expand strokes, while illustrator and Corel draw do. I wanted to design a logo with "luminescence" effect - like soft glow - by outlining, offsetting and expanding strokes. With illustrator I could do it, while in Affinity Designer I can't. I tried "outline" effects, but then I discovered that I just can't expand it. I probably could create something "resembling" to desirable effect, but that is not the solution. I didn't`t notice this instruments in 1.7 either. So please - add this functionality to 1.7 or 1.8 update - while it`s a small detail, but for some projects its crucial. And I`m not the only one asking about this - there are some related topics on this forum asking about the same. Aaaaaand - do something with your "expanding stroke" - it`s horrible! Although a bit better in 1.7 update, but still not appropriate! Many programs (illustrator, Inkscape, Corel Draw, even Sketch!) can do this much better! I`m using Affinity Designer 1.6.5 on Mac OS Mojave (also used on Sierra). Thanks for your work and cannot wait to see this functionality in update
  3. Hey All! Been working on a template for exporting logo files for clients and thought I'd share it here so we can maybe work on improving it together? FILE: Logo Exporter Template CMYK V1.afdesign The idea is that the export persona is already set up to create folders and files for the different parts of the logo and the different colour models. What works: Folders and colour gamuts are exported easily and swiftly (more on this below) It's easy to resize the artboards to fit a new logo. It saves me a generous amount of time! Cheaper than other plugins for other apps with similar functionalities. πŸ˜‰ -- A few things I'm struggling that could do some help with: 1. File naming The naming convention I am after is the following: "clientname-logoelement-colour-gamut.extension" I managed pretty much everything, by renaming the artboards, and manually updating the export slices. But I can't find a way to replace "clientname" with the name of the afdesign file. 2. Colur gamuts / modes When working form a RGB afdesign file there are limitation on exporting certain files to CMYK - for example EPS only export in the original afdesign file setup. But when working from a CMYK base file (like the attached) the file conversion options are more friendly. A NOTE ON THIS: Although we all know that is best practice to adjust these conversions manually I'm trying to make something that will save me time. Perhaps there is b better way to automate this with the use or symbols or global colours - I'm yet to discover (new to affinity here) 3. Symbols / global colours I'm not very versed on these yet, so would appreciate any suggestions on how using these can help the exporting process, colour settings. Have a go at using it and hope it saves you some time! J.- PS: Dear moderator, if this belongs on a different thread please advice accordingly.
  4. The first one is for the Instagram page @humansonbikesnyc. The owner is a big Pink Floyd fan, so looking at some of the P.F. art, The Dark Side of The Moon was instantly the source of inspiration. I'm sure we all know that iconic cover. In my design, I took the yellow street lines on NYC and used them in place of the ray of light, the bicycle wheel takes the place of the pyramid and the rainbow's place is taken by the cycling championship flag colors. My idea was that cycling in NYC (I myself am also a cyclist/messenger) is like being on a giant course. The streets of the city become components of a massive velodrome (a track where bicycle races are held). So, the bicycle (the prism) converts the street (rays of white light) in a race track of sorts on a massive velodrome, which is why the championship flag colors (the rainbow) come out. Whether it's a crit, and alley cat, delivery, messwork, it's all part of the rat race we are all riding to and from, day in and day out. I call this design, Dark Side of The Road (because, well, the asphalt and whatnot). The logo for bike messenger company/collective Street Kings NYC (@streetkingsnyc) was already in use before I was ask to clean it up. The founder, Kid Ill, requested to keep the same cyclist image but he wanted the lines to look sharper. The original was done haphazardly and the lines had no sense of weight to them, they were a fixed with. I just make the ends of the lines come to a point, adjusted the riders body a bit but kept the design true to the original. The shield and sword I had tweaked a bit more. Originally there were no swords (the swords were requested). Also, the original design was the rider with NYC in a stencil font. I opted for a more "royal" looking font for NYC (I forgot the name of the font, if anyone knows, please tell me, thanks) and added the banner with 2012 in Roman numerals (I think it looks better than just "Est. 2012) I added the original design at the end. Let me know what ya'll think.
  5. Hi, I have spent hours trying to figure out why the edges on this logo when exported become rough & pixelated. The logo will be used for print & web - I have tried multiple Document Settings including; Type: Web - 1280 px by 800 px 72 DPI & 300 DPI, Type: Print - 2000px, 3000px - 300 DPI. All coming out distored, pixelated or with black lines. I have also tried to rasterize which didnt work. Is there something I am missing here? Document set up quality? I'm stuck! I just need clean crisp edges on the logo. I have attached images of Affinity view screen with 100% zoom along with image of exported PNG, PDF & JPG Thanks!

  13. Hi, I've been using Pixelmator to mix our logo with photos. Worked well but also had a few limits for what I wanted to do. That said, I'm not a graphic design person (actually have a dive shop) but liked the ability to add text and change photos. It would be cool to do more and design basic logos. Not sure if this program will work for me, easily learned, etc. Advise please?

  15. After messing with photography, editing and a little bit of design work I finally got AD and I absolutely love it. I do a lot of marketing and design stuff for my band but there's a certain limit to what I can do before I have to source it out. I'm slowly finding my bearings and am looking forward to learning more and developing in the realm of an amateur graphic designer. Here's a couple of simple ones I recently did just to get a hand of a few techniques. Comments and criticism welcome!
  16. Created this Mascot logo with Affinity Designer, I recently started using AD and i am new to Vector Designing. Any good sites where i can sell this type of logos ? Thanks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G32g1Ywo9vg
  17. I have downloaded the trial version of Affinity Designer on my mac and seriously considering to replace Adobe Illustrator with AD. So far I have done some comic inking illustrations, a couple logo design and some coloured illustrations and I find the app amazing. I find Affinity Design the best App so far for inking purpose in vector. I have tried inking in illustrator, corel painter, Manga studio, photoshop. For raster I like Manga Studio but for vector AD is definitely the best. Though I miss some features of Adobe illustrator for example Auto trace, eye dropper tool, 3D extrude, blend tool to mention. Still Affinity Designer's price is so attractive that it lures an illustrator/designer like me living in India. I hope Affinity will come up with alternatives for premiere pro and after effects also. Thanks
  18. This is a simple screenshot tutorial I added to my site. There should be more coming in the future. This tutorial focuses on using the corner tool, guides manager & some of my workflow. This is beginner friendly. quylt.com/news/2015/9/12/designing-a-logo-in-affinity-designer-quylt MOD Comment NO LONGER AVAILABLE
