  1. Hello everyone! This is another feature request. I'd like to request a feature that lets users of Designer and Photo use tools in a straight way when holding shift. For example, when I want to draw a straight line, holding down shift should draw a line between starting point and current cursor location. This behaviour should be added to other tools as well. If I want to use the "Smudge Brush Tool" or the "Inpainting Brush Tool" in a straight way, there is currently no way of doing so that I'm aware of. Adding shift + alt for snapping to multiples of 45° between starting point and current cursor location could be very useful as well. Also, I do know about left clicking using the "Paint Brush Tool", then holding shift and clicking at the end point to get a straight line. But this behaviour is limited to that tool and you don't get a live preview of the line or snapping to multiples of 90° or 45°. The "Free hand Selection Tool" includes a similar feature to the one that I just requested. The difference is that the existing feature doesn't use the cursor location when left mouse clicking for its starting point, but rather the cursor location when starting to hold shift. This does make sense for that specific tool, but I think other tools would benefit from a set starting point at the time when mouse left is clicked. And that existing feature doesn't seem to have any snapping options either, which could be useful sometimes. Best wishes, Shu
  2. I have a project in which I need a star shape with several points—easy. But I also need the points of the star to “wave” like sun rays. I know I can convert to curves and individually add nodes to each of the points, and then “bend” the lines to create the wavy rays. I want to know if there’s a way to create those rays universally—in other words, editing one star point edits every star point. Is this possible?
  3. I’ve noticed that I can draw a line (nothing to do with text) then change its properties and the Outline Style in the Character Studio changes. See attached GIF. Also, changes to the Stroke and/or Colour properties of the line change the Outline Style in the Character Studio too. I don’t think these things should be connected as the Line properties for a line/curve should not have any effect on Characters that the object does not have. Or, to put it another way, why is the Character studio showing changes to the Line properties of something that does not contain text? Or, to expand on that a bit, why are the Character/Paragraph/Text Style studios active at all when the layer does not contain text? Have I misunderstood something basic?
  4. How do I draw a straight line across the top of a column?
  5. While attempting to set the line width/weight for a shape, I ran into several problems. When using the shortcut, moving finger up and down on menu bar, I got the results I expected. When trying to use the slider on the menu, the line width jumped to maximum and would not be reduced. Direct numerical input resulted in random numbers based on whatever secret calculations the app came up with. Only through careful shortcut manipulation did I get the desired result. I’m not sure if the fact that the document was created using points as it’s measurement, which was later changed to inches. I don’t know if I need to set a parameter somewhere that tells the document to match the line weight measurement standard to the one the document is using. Maybe I just need to turn the app off and back on again. Either way, this looks like a fairly serious problem for users who rely on precision measurement control. 6. When I zoom out the canvas in both AD and AP I get wavy lines when using the brush tool, not super noticeable but still annoying. But when I zoom in the canvas the lines don't seem to have this problemas. I also tested in Clip Studio but didn't get any wavyness. I use a Cintiq. Also I have been experiencing Lag.
  7. Hi just bought this product for my Mac. Scope is working with svg files (edit and create). I'm unable to find how to draw lines (segments) terminating with arrows. I don't want to draw a triangle and groupo with line to generate an arrow but using a native function present in any drawing tool Can someone help? Thx Sergio
  8. I’ve lost nearly a day of work trying to fix this issue, and am not ready to give up on it yet. I would really appreciate the help of some of the Affinity Gurus with this issue, as it is driving me crazy. I’m using the latest version of Affinity Designer on Mac. I’m working on a vector illustration of a shark. and I’ve attached a sample of the project I’m working on below, along with some screenshots. If you look at the gills, on one layer (gills erase), I’ve used an erase to punch through to the green. Then, I’ve duplicated that layer on top, change the erase to normal and used it as a container for a vector texture. Unfortunately, I cannot get rid of a hairline thin stroke around the border of the shape. Only it isn’t a stroke, as the stroke is deactivated. More of a border that maintains it’s size as you zoom in and out. I though this could just be affinity showing me the outline of the shape, but this unwanted out carries through to the export. You can see exactly the same effect between the layers ‘lower side’ and ‘upper side’. This line is the same size no matter how much you zoom in or out, and again, it carries over to the export. I’ve researched extensively on the forums, and found no fix so far. Some similar suggestions hinted at an issue with anti-aliasing, but I’m not sure that it the issue. Any help on this would be really appreciated. Affinity_Error.afdesign
  9. Hi so i think it would be really really fantastic if it would be possible to draw straight lines in pixel persona with paint brush tool while holding a key.. and it would be overcool if there would be an option with drawing like that with specific angles:) Thanks!
  10. Is there a line tool in AP? All I want to do is draw/paint a straight line from one point to another. Maybe extend the line as needed?
  11. Whenever I want to draw a 1px line, I use the pen tool (with shift). The registration of the 1px stroke is always centered on a pixel, resulting in a 2px 50% opaque (aliased) line. Changing the stroke alignment does not help so each time I draw a 1px line I need to move it a half pixel afterwards :(. What am I doing wrong?
  12. I use AP since the iPad Pro 12" and never had this problem before. Let me explain: I would like to draw a thin line at a new layer. I use the brush basic 4 pnt and choose black (or any other colour When I place the pen at the tablet I get a magnifying circel with pixels and the colour turns into the background colour. I thought I needed a new pen point but when I chagend it, I had the same issue. Please let me know what the solution is, it drives me crazy!
  13. In Affinity Design for Windows I created a shape and gave it an outline. I then I messed around and put text on its path. It changed it so that now - there is no colored stroke/no line and I cannot re-add a stroke or fill it. What am I doing wrong? Windows 10 Latest Design update 3/2018
  14. Hi guys. I create a shape by Pen tool. Is there a way to make a dotted /dashed line around it? Thanks
  15. Hi Affinity Team, I found a blemish when converting a line to curve shape. Can the quality of the conversion be influenced or controlled in any way? This error occurs in AD 1.6.2.97 as well as in the beta 1.6.3.98 version. Curve.afdesign Line.afdesign
  16. Any suggestions on how to successfully and smoothly create more texture to the edges of my illustrations? When I chose a vector brush texture I like and use it for outlines, I experience two issues... 1. With affinty’s default texture brushes there’s a large “gap” at the closure 2. With brushes I’ve purchased, there’s not a “gap.” However, when I add any bitmap shading within my shapes, the lines stand out way too much because they aren’t being shaded (even when I expand the stroke). What am I doing wrong? heres an example of a texture in trying to achieve from @gitkadraws. Not sure if you can see the textures in this photo or not...
  17. Affinity Designer Trial 1.5.3.69, Affinity Photo Trial 1.5.2.69 The bitmap brush engine in both programs renders hand drawn lines with very low quality - lines are not smooth, they end up faceted/broken no matter the drawing style or brush settings. Sadly this is not adequate even for basic sketching. I am sorry to say that but this is the worst I have seen. The last picture is from OpenCanvas - line rendering in OC is very good. This is how it should be done at the very least. Even Photoshop (an all around app not specialized in sketching) has always done an adequate job in this regard. One of the best rendered lines I have seen were in Autodesk Sketchbook (and of course Studio Tools/Alias). But since even inexpensive Sketchbook went rental-only I have lost interest in the software. Sorry if this has already been talked about and put on the roadmap. I did a quick search and didn't see any thread mentioning this issue. With high quality bitmap brush engine Affinity apps would become much more versatile.
  18. Can anyone give me any tips on how to achieve lines similar to the style done in the show 'Ed Edd n Eddy'?The line widths are all over the place. Would this be done with a specific brush or by manually altering the line widths?

  20. Please, is there a way to get rid of this black thin line that always appears in a nested layer? See the details: Many thanks!
  21. Hi. I have a feature request that I think it should be easy to implement. Here what I need: Currently, pressing delete button will remove selected nodes, but not cut the line itself. I need a feature to delete selected nodes and cut the line into separated segments. Using Backspace key or Shift+Delete will be nice. Thanks.
  22. I usually found this bug for a while. From my file, Let's try to align it to center of the canvas then you will see the bug. Cheers. 2pt_Align_bug.afdesign
  23. I'm making a simple illustration for a website. In this graphic I'm making some basic shapes with the donut tool and the segment tool. I notice a very fine line around the shapes, that is displayed in the colour as the filling of the shape. You can see it around the head and the base of the little 'person'. It is also visible in the export to a PNG-file. Does someone know the cause of this and how I can prevent this?
  24. The top most line is a pixel line I made in Photoshop. The line below it is the line I've created in AD using the Pen tool. As you can see the line is the correct width, but the stroke overhangs. I've tried playing with all the stroke positioning options and can't see a solution. Frustrating! Do I need to create a 1 pixel high box shape instead?
