  1. Suppose I am drawing engraving-style illustrations. The Pencil Tool and Vector Brush Tool with pressure settings are not bad. However, I find that they are not efficient enough when I need to adjust the thickness of each line in an entire file. It would be useful to have a "Line Thickness tool" in future versions of Affinity Designer for creating engraving-style illustrations. Please~ FYI: The Line Thickness Tool in Clip Paint Studio https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOLaebfKLoA FYI: Scratchboard Illustration of a Plum for a Jam Label https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q58XjxmJxUU
  2. Good day, so im working with a complex shape in afinity designer that I'm going to be sending off to a 3rd party company to have cut out onto copper sheets. The shape is called metatron's cube. (See attached image.) It has lines all over the design and the company isn't able to work with this file because it doesnt contain auctual shaped geometry. I played around with it myself ( See attached image) and I was able to get it close to how they would need it for their machine, but the part im now stuck at is getting the rest of the lines to look like the image I made. What I was able to do on my own is select every circle and turn them into a donut shape then make the hole 90%. I then duplicated the smaller hexagon in the center and shrunk it then subtracted it from the bigger hexagon. I did that to both the center and outer hexagons in the image and then I Sellected everything and hit the add button in the top right corner so that it created the shape in the image. Here are my questions I currently have. How to I make the distance between the hexagons the same distance as the circle that has a dognut hole of 90% I need to make sure that when their machine cuts it all out that all the line thickness is exactly the same. My next question is how do I make the rest of the lines look how I made this shape so far? I know I'm making progress, but I've hit a brick wall. Thanks in advance, Randallrbaker
  3. Please add better stroke width control. I attempted to use Affinity Designer for complex character lineart with the pressure graph tool. Unfortunately, it works only in simple cases. When many points are added it gets incredibly fiddly to change things or to even understand which point I have to move for editing. Not to mention the pressure graph often bugging out completely in complex situations either with points merging for no reason or point not moving at all and me having to close it down and turn it back up. The current solution is simply not good enough for many complex cases. Moho Pro 12 (previously called Anime Studio Pro) has a great tool for this, simply called "line width tool". Here you can see it in action: Even Illustrator's version of this would be good to have: Just do something, please. Threads about his have been around for ages. In 2015 it was mentioned as being worked on yet it never landed. Only silence. No mentions of this improvement on the roadmap. This is such a fundamental missing feature that keeps me away from using Designer. Previous threads: 1. 2.
  4. Hi all, I want to color in the attached image and can't find a tutorial online. I have both Designer & Photo and what I want is to make the woman's hair blonde, the rose red, etc. Not the lines themselves, but the blank parts that make up the image (not sure if that's clear enough a description?). Which of the software would be easiest for a noob like me, and how might I go about it? Any help much appreciated!
  5. Creating my own "pre-code" horror comic... just a taster. Addendum: have added page 2. Addendendum: have added page 3. This is all for now, cos I'm back on an animation job for the next two weeks :( Another addendendendum: have been animating for the man for three months and have finally got back onto this. Page 4 added! I have missed working with Affinity. How's that iPad version coming along?
  6. Hi, I'm having a problem similar to the one described in the thread here. I want to export my line art which is a vector (see screenshot ‘Before import’) from Affinity Designer to Affinity Photo in order to colour. I export in a PNG format, import into Affinity Photo, zoom in and that's when I notice the lines look really jagged (see screenshot ‘After export with colour’). I understand that the vector gets turned into pixels during export, but I want to make the lines look smoother. Before using Affinity Designer and Photo, I was working with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. My workflow back then was to export the vector from Illustrator as a PNG 'without background' to Photoshop. In Affinity Designer I have tried different PNG preset settings (see screenshot ‘Export settings’) including PNG-24 Bilinear, Bicubic, Lanczos 3 (separable), Lanczos 3 (non-separable) all ‘without background’ selected. But all resulted in the same jagged line. I tried the solutions mentioned in the thread above. However when I click ‘Force pixel alignment’ the quality in Affinity Photo doesn’t seem to change. Would someone on the support team know if I need to do something different in Affinity Designer so that when I import the vector in Affinity Photo there’s not a noticeable difference?
  7. Hello Everyone, Well i know this have been asked for long time by many but also wanted to add my request into the long long list How come Affinity Designer can't do this kind of simple stuff Inkscape can do using it's interpolate extension and Ai can do with it's tool ? i mean, i'm not asking affinity to be like Ai nor Inkscape but the mesh you will see attached here was created in less than 30sec on a very old laptop running Linux Fedora 29 beta with inkscape installed. Please guys not only this tool but make it happen with more tools straight from your Knight Bag, make me smile like you did with the new thing you have added to the pen tool of APublisher thus making it 10 times better than the Pen tool implemented into ADesigner ... Well this one still need to grow to where APub stand but ... get it done guys and ... make me smile. BTW it's free to use for anyone who feel it may be of interest both Personal & commercial, the SVG you can use to recolor with ADesigner or APhoto. Enjoy ! drawing.svg
  8. Does anyone know of a tutorial to show how to change line art (like a coloring book page) to vector? Any ideas for the best way to make coloring pages? I have Procreate 4 for the iPad, as well as Designer/Photo and Photo for the iPad.
  9. Hello - - new to the forums, so I apologize in advance if I am being a knucklehead in general. I'm trying to clean up/sharpen line art in Affinity Photo. In Photoshop I would select the line art, select 'Levels' and then adjust to get the desired level of sharpness. My forum digging suggests that in Affinity Photo, the 'Threshold Adjustment' should achieve the same result. The issue I'm running into is that when I place the Threshold Adjustment directly above the line art layer, it allows me to make the line art as crisp as I'd like but it also applies to every other layer below it. When I try to move the Threshold Adjustment as a child layer (I hope that's the right name for docking it underneath the line art layer) the adjustment is no longer affecting the layers below - but it's also not affecting the line art I'm trying to sharpen either. When I drag the adjustment to a child layer - BOOM - the line art gets fuzzy again. . I assume there's a simple solution I'm just missing. Thought I'd ask the experts. Thanks in advance.
  10. Hi humans I've just recently purchased affinity photo. I've never used any sort of photo editing software in my life. I am trying to separate a very detailed and complex drawing from its paper backround so i can edit from there. Its black ink on white paper. I have attached photos of the drawings to better understand. I have watched plenty of videos which explain how to do it in photoshop, but none in Affinity Photo. I started watching the tutorials that are supplied by Affinity, however, I am not aware of which tutorials would specifically benefit me for this project. from what i understand, a lot of the work done should involve masking, white and black adjustments etc.. ANY help would be greatly appreciated. I have little to no idea on how to go about this 001.bmp 002.bmp
  11. I have done some nice clip art with Affinity now, and included the SVG export on my web page. I love how smart the nodes can be. (My DrawPlus is no newer than X5) But creating technical line art for use in other programs is not going so well. I fail to get real text when I export to EPS, or PDF; but SVG seems to work well, and have real text. WMF export is not readable by anything I have.
  12. I work a lot with line art, particularly calligraphy. The work is based around the use of 2-bit color, also known as bitmap mode (in Photoshop). This is required for a range of specialty printing, engraving, embossing, etc. Printers in these specialties WILL NOT ACCEPT art in any other form, except occasionally vector art. Conversion from hand-calligraphy or drawing on paper to vector art is very complicated, and depends on an intermediary step of bitmap conversion. Please include a bitmap mode to your color modes. Thank you.
  13. I got the pen tool working. Now to figure out how to add color!
