  1. Hey community, I am in my first week getting started with Affinity Photo and could need some advice from some Affinity Photo ninjas Here are my 3 workflow steps where I need help in the 3rd step/photo. 1. Out of camera: 2. "Basic" adjustments in Lightroom 3. Adding more adjustment layers, live filters, brushing in some stars and fog In the 3rd step I want to add more glow to those contrasting edges of the mountains - comparable with the edges in step two. In Lightroom I brushed in some negative clarity but I don't know how to do it in Affinity Photo, because in the current release there is no negative clarity (or I haven't found it yet ) - unluckily the diffuse glow filter doesn't give me the wanted result (maybe I am tweaking it wrong). Hope you can assist me so I can finish the photo and post the result here Thanks in advance, Marc
  2. Affinity Photo 1.7 beta completely replaced my Photoshop needs. I would like to have a Digital Asset Management software like Lightroom from Affinity. This will enable culling and then taking them to Affinity Photo for more detailed work. So how to do image management until we get another gem from Affinity? Nikon View NX-i does the job for basic image management. View NXi + Affinity Photo is a true replacement of subscription based Adobe Photography CC plan. Right Click The Image you want to take to Affinity Photo. Register If you have not registered before. Another way to take your image to Affinity Photo.
  3. I was wondering if Affinity Photo offers a capability to edit one photo ,and use it as a preset to instantly edit multiple photos with that preset for time-lapse purposes. In lightroom you can do it ,but can you do it in Affinity Photo?
  4. Hey guys, I'd like to know if there are any plans to develop an Affinity software which would compete with Adobe's Lightroom from a side of batch photo editing. I'd love to go "full affinity" in the future, but as I'm getting more into photography I find it extremely hard to edit like 200+ photos in Affinity Photo. Affinity, please, consider an addition to your already amazing collection of software. <3
  5. My current work flow consists of using a MacBook Pro with a external HD that has my LR 6 catalogue on it. I want to utilize my iPad and Affinity Photo. What I can’t figure out is how to manage my photos using both softwares while keeping all my photos in one place. I do not mind moving my photos back and forth but I do not want to use apple photos.
  6. I set the white balance in Lightroom of a RW2 file, convert to DNG and open in Affinity Photo but the white balance adjustment isn't there. It works if I export to TIFF but I want to work with the DNG. Please help.
  7. Hi. New to product. My mom has windows and my friend has mac. They each have thousands of photos, previously worked on, in Lightroom. Where do they put them. How do they stay organized? Help please.
  8. Hi all, I was watching some youtube videos where someone was using a radial adjustment brush in lightroom to lighten various areas of a photo by adding new brushes everywhere by changing the exposure value. He could change the shape and size of the brush from a circle to elongated elipse as well as feathering and intesity using the sliders. Is this possible in affinity photo? Thanks Jon
  9. Is the affinity team check the Internet to see what are saying about your softwares ? Because if you conduct the investigation, you would see taht the most wanted feature is a DAM. Everywhere in Facebook groups, forums ... it's THE thing that blocks systematically. This is understandable, amateur photographers as professionals use sensibly same workflow that begins with the classification and organization of their photos... it's impossible for a photographer to do without a DAM when he has thousands of photos. Currently no DAM software seems to be able to read Affinity files ... If you really want to explode the market, take out THE PROMISED DAM for years or make an agreement with other software like DarkTable ... You will shadow Adobe only when you'll have a LightRoom equivalent (the dam part of course), in the meantime, photographers monitor, test but do not seriously consider using your software, many will also forget you... I really think that's DAM should be a priority, what about you ?
  10. Hi, I've got some problems using the soft proof adjustment layer in Affinity Photo. I am so far unable to replicate the behaviour of Adobe Lightroom (which worked pretty well). I've attached two images here showing the difference in results (left side LR, right side AP). Gammut check is totally off in AP and the shadows are way to bright in the preview. I'm using a color profile provided by the photo lab for their exposure unit and they specify exactly what settings to make for which of their products. In this specific case: Retain CMYK-numbers: n/a Retain RGB-numbers: off Rendering priority: relative colourimetric Black point/shadow compensation: on Emulate paper color: off The shadows in the LR preview also get (somewhat) brighter if I turn paper color emulation on, however that is wrong and I seem to be unable to turn it off in AP...? I hope I'm just missing some settings hidden in another dialog? It seems to me that AP sadly isn't usable for soft proofing in all cases...? I would be grateful to get rid of LR, so any help is appreciated! Thanks, Henning
  11. Hi, in Affinity there are nice tools to stack photos (focus, panorama, ...) :-) It is not possible to sent files from outside the program directly to this tools. But this would be nice, becaus of integration in Lightroolm and similar software. In the moment you can sent more photos to Affinity, but you are not able to use them in the stacking tools. Of cause, a "real" Lightroom integration would be the best for the workflow. For the moment it will help, if there will be a way to send photos to all tools in Affinity (and reimport the result). Regards Stephan
  12. Just got an iPad Pro and my FIRST purchase was Affinity photo to go along with my Lightroom Mobile. I can use Lightroom and then “Open In” and send it to Affinity, but I have no idea how to send it “back” to lightroom along side the original in the catalog? Photoshop Mix and other applications have a “save back to Lightroom” option. As far as I can see, it takes it to Affinity, but it doesn't put it back in the lightroom catalog? Is that correct? Thanks!
  13. I bought Affinity Photo in December as an additional external editor for Lightroom (alongside Elements 2018 XXL). I have used it a few times so far and found it helpful for certain processes on TIFF files. However, I noticed recently that all of my RAW files (nearly 50,000) had mysteriously been converted from Nikon format to Affinity Photo files. I did not see this as significant until I started to have problems with Lightroom (versions 5 and 6 with slightly different catalogues in each). I did not realise the cause of the Lightroom problems at first. After Lightroom 5 crashed completely I reinstalled it and deleted the previews. It now works up to a point but cannot read the RAW files. Lightroom 6, also reinstalled, is stuck in a mode of partial reading of the RAW files, but cannot read them properly. I have no idea how Affinity took over all my RAWs but I would like to know how to recover them, i.e. convert them back to their original format.
  14. Hi there, I've evaluating Affinity to work with the raw files from my Canon 70D. For a test I started from a very underexposed picture. With Affinity I followed the lineguides from this tutorial: https://vimeo.com/channels/affinityphoto/202715178 but the best I can get is a quite dull image. See the second attachment. On the other had I see that with a few settings in LightRoom, the software I'd like to leave, I'm albe to achieve better results. See the third image. I'm wondering: I'm missing any step, settings or configuration in order to improve my raw editing with Affinity? I've tried Apple raw engine and Serif but the results are similar. TIA.
  15. Hi all, I'm currently road testing Affinity Photo and so far am extremely impressed. I want to use it as a replacement for the Lightroom, Photoshop workflow. However I have reached an impasse when it comes to files that I've adjusted in LR. For instance if I go to the LR develop module and make an edit, be it crop, white balance, whatever and then try to open that same file in Affinity Photo it will not show any of the changes. I'm confused by that because my understanding was that RAW files contain the editing information in the 'background' so was expecting Affinity to be able to read them with their RAW engine. That not being the case does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can migrate, as such, my LR adjusted photos. I do know that I can export all the adjusted files, but that would 'bake in' the non-destructive edits; not something I want to do unless I have no other choice. Hopefully this rambling will make sense. Many thanks in advance for any help or advice. Paul
  16. So I am a bit disappointed so I am going to hope really hard that I am just missing something, a work around is available, or this is being addressed by development so to the point: WHY IS THE WINDOWS APP STORE VERSION A LESS FUNCTIONAL VERSION? I paid the exact same price for Affinity Photo via the Windows App Store but I don't get plugins? I don't get simple "Edit In" function from Lightroom? I don't get access to the betas? WTF? I looked at some other threads in the Questions section and found a few people asking the same question but only one that seemed to have any response from Serif. TLDR version of that post is basically "Why would we put the things you can't do on the marketing page of our application?" Thats a bit of a BS response. You don't have to list all the things it can't do but you could make a simple mention that the Windows App version may not have all the same functionality as the version directly from Serif due to limitations on how Windows App Store apps are handled. So again I paid the same price in the Windows Store as I would have directly through Serif but I don't get full functionality. So if anyone has any information on how to circumvent this issue I would be really appreciative. If not there is always the refund route and I'll make sure to move along from Serif. Not because their application is bad but because when asked about these types of things their moderators give pretty shifty responses and it just seems like a bad business model to charge certain groups of people the same amount for a version of a product that is technically inferior without being transparent about it.
  17. Hi, I am thinking of buying Affinity Photo because of:- the price, it is purchase not rent, it has excellent reviews and the online tutorials look very good and are English not American. Looking at the website I cannot see support for Lightroom's DNG file system which all my photos are in. Is this the case and if so does that mean I am going to have to convert every photo I want work on in Affinity, export it to a folder and then import it into Affinity, or am I missing something?
  18. Hi. I've just downloaded Affinity Photo for Windows and love the software. However, I need software to replace Photoshop/Lightroom, and while Affinity does an excellent job for Photoshop, I wondered if there were any plans by Serif for a Lightroom organiser type plugin or module in the near future. This would definitely persuade me to make the switch from Adobe.
  19. Is it possible to open RAW files in Affinity Photo that have been developed/cropped in Lightroom with the crop/development applied so that there is no need to start again or will Affinity only open the original RAW file?
  20. I'm curious. How does Affinity Photo handle Adobe Lightroom edits?
  21. Hi, are you planning to include a digital assets management feature to "replace" Lightroom or even to have an addition like bridge? Macphun with their product Luminar are working on that. I work with Lightroom since version 1 and was a paid tester before it came out. I would love to see an addition with LR or Bridge features included in your excellent Affinity Photo which I use on my mac & on my iPad. Hope to hear good news from you! Stephan
  22. I start read Photo Manual and I can't find information about massive RAW development with batch processing. I'm new in app so I maybe wrong, but it's look like I can open RAW file, but is limited to File > Open and I don't have option open all files in folder with navigation mode (next / previous file) for massive edditing. What I want 1. Select folder or files in folder - at once above 200 RAW files 2. Open it all above 200 RAW files in Affinity Photo without crash 3. Develop RAW one by one fx. I start develop RAW file no 1, next file no 2, next file no 3, ..., next file no 241 with posibility turn back to previous file and for example delete file from harddisk (remove scene duplicates) or change develop setting 4. When I set RAW settings in Develop Persona I want next set: a ) the same file name for output file fx. mountain- b ) set output folder fx. "my vacation" c ) set dimension, DPI, format etc. for all files but by setting it once fx. 300DPI 1024x768 JPG d ) export all files by one click Result: In folder "my vacation" I have output above 240 JPGs with 1024x768px dimension, 300DPI etc. with file convention mountain-001.jpg, mountain 002.jpg, mountain-003.jpg,..., mountain-241.jpg. Question How do that in Affinity? Is it a posibility work in Adobe Lightroom style in this app? Comment My question is not about posibility develop RAW, because Affinity Photo do that, but about massive edition. At this scenario I have 200-600 RAW files and I want edit them all in Affinity at once but without openning files in parts of fx. 20 RAW files, but with proceed in queue. For more explenation my question I publish video with what I want and I get in Adobe Lightroom here. As you can see in the window part below I get thumbnails of RAW files. When I click on them I can switch to another RAW file and develop it. If I want I can go back and change setting of RAW. When I set in Develop all settings I simply use Export. On this window I set what I want, press export and go drink tea when Lightroom do rest.
  23. Hey guys, Just 3 days ago, and after a pretty difficult chat support session, I've completely quit my Adobe habit with the removal of Lightroom/PS, and it's very liberating. I'm now a free man! I'm now trying to finesse a photography workflow with the Affinity apps front and center. My current setup is I own Photo for both OSX and iOS but after the last couple of shoots I'm finding it very difficult to replace Lightroom in there. Now, I know the fervor of an Affinity DAM is pretty intense, and I also know that it's confirmed for development, but I'm sure we won't see it for quite some time yet. Therefore, what do you guys use in it's place as of now? I should also mention that because the storage space on both my iPad Pro and my MacBook is fairly limited, I keep all my files in a master folder on Dropbox and use oDrive to sync/unsync my files as I need them. With Lightroom, my old workflow was as follows: Move images from camera to new job folder on OSX, they then get auto synced to Dropbox by oDrive Open images in LR and save LR catalog file in the same folder as the images are in (again, gets fired up to Dropbox by oDrive) Do required edits to images in LR, and on exit LR will auto update catalog with newest data and edits Unsync new job folder with oDrive and everything gets auto synced to Dropbox Pretty much it. The devs at oDrive said they are releasing a mobile version of thier app - which is fantastic news and that would certainly make life easier to use with AP on iOS. So, what does your workflow look like? I'd like to find one that preserves non-destructive edits in the way LR cataloging used to. Not played with AP too much so really not sure if it's already included functionality. Cheers, Stu W.
  24. I have used Lightroom for several years to catalog some 60K images and want to start using Affinity Photo but Lightroom only recognizes exported images as far as I can tell. What program are Photo users using to catalog Photo native files? Regards, Nick
  25. Hi there, as an Adobe user for years I´m thinking about switching to AP and donwloaded the trial version. From what I see after one day of testing I´m really impressed and I´m sure it not only can replace Photoshop, it seems to be the better software. With that said I have some questions from a AP beginner (not a image editing beginner at all) perspective: 1. Is there a way to "export" images from Adobe Lightroom right into AP? I mean some option to set AP as the external editor in LR 2. Is there an option to save individual workspaces such as in Photoshop? I mean customize the canvas and panels I use the most and save that. 3. If 2. is possible is there a way to use these individual workspaces on two Macs? I´m using an iMac and a MacBook and would like to have the same environment on both machines 4. Is there a specific workflow with CaptureOne? I mean use C1 for tethering, as catalog and for RAW processing and AP for more advanced image editing/retouching 5. Are "panels" available such as in PS? I mean can I arrange my panels and tools in a way shown in the attached screenshots (and save this in my workspace)? I think that´s all for the moment. Thanks a lot for your support. Cheers Michael
