  1. I participated in the 36 days of type challenge this year. It was my first time doing any kind of community challenge and I just wanted to share my work. I couldn’t do the numbers since I was travelling but I still had fun. These were inspired by Washi Tape and their kind of non opaqueness. feedback welcome. thanks.
  2. Hi, This is my first attempt at using Affinity Designer and have come to a hurdle; I am trying to edit the text on an existing logo that was created in AI. I cannot seem to be able to select the text, is this maybe because it has been rasterised? Is there a way I can do this please? Thanks.
  3. I've just swapped over from Procreate to Affinity due to Procreate not being vector based. I initially started designing a logo in Procreate until realising I needed to swap, but I'm unable to bring my brush with me. I've searched for days for a similar brush and cannot find anything! Any help would be massively helpful otherwise I'll have to start the logo again and re-jig the style I've attached 2 screenshots to show the brush. Thanks!
  4. Hi! I'm very new to Affinity, but so far enjoying it as an alternative to Procreate. I bought a set of brushes and I've had no problem installing one, but I can't seem to import the other 3? When I go to import and select my file (no problem doing this, it says its downloading) it doesnt import and goes back to the automatic pre-installed pen section. Can anyone help please?! Thanks :)
  5. Much appreciated if someone could demonstrate how to draw text shadow as below on the iPad. I've tried duplicating a layer and pasting, but it's simply not as elegant as in Adobe Illustrator. Source:
  6. could we please request better vector handwriting support? chinese or japanese characters require much more visual feedback and stroke fidelity than alphabetic characters the vector pencil tool would work if we had an option to hide the nodes until (re)selected, i.e. option to hide automatic node display, as the nodes obscure visual feedback for handwriting the vector brush tool has too much auto smoothing/lag even with no stabiliser enabled, distortion in alphabetic/english handwriting is ‘relatively’ minor (for non-calligraphers) but completely distorts handwritten kanji of normal proficiency (i realise the team might not include a native-speed kanji writer so this might not be an obvious deficiency) hope i am just missing an existing option somewhere… warmest wishes, maki

  8. Last December me and two colleagues were featured in a newspaper article about calligraphers, type designers and letterers in our town (Florianópolis, Brazil). The editor also invited us to create the cover for the art supplement. Each of us took a word of the title and did it according to our speciality. Then, I've assembled the three contributions in Affinity Photo. Here's a machine translation of my blog post detailing the process: https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&u=http%3A//www.ivanjeronimo.com.br/essays/2017/01/com-capa-coletiva-jornal-destaca-mercado-das-letras-em-florianopolis/
  9. Since Adobe has went to subscription payment on all thei software like Microsoft. I have been looking for compatible replacements. My main use for Photoshop is not editing and enhancing photos but to create headlines and save as pngs for use in other programs. I also use actions to create mock ups that create CD covers, magazine cover looks etc. I also would like to be able to use and modify the headline files I currently have which are in PSD for,at. How much of this will Affinity do? I am also looking for an Indesign replacement. I have never liked renting software. I current use CS6 on my Macintosh and don't want to be forced to CC one day. 10. Hi, I am using Affinity Designer to letter comics, and I think there's (at least) one function missing that could spare us a lot of work: Many hand-lettering fonts have to be used in lower case, so first, I would need an option that would put text in lower case. If this option could be expanded to all the text in a document (or in every selected documents when you add scripting to your apps), that would be great, but that's not all: when you letter comics, every character has to be in lower case save one: the capital "i" which has to be "
  11. Im struggling a bit with a piece of text; I just want the outline with a transparent centre. If I just set a stroke, the stroke goes 'inside' the letters. If I set an 'outline' in fx, then remove the fill, it removes the outline itself. I have tried making another 'punch out' image and using geometry, but it axes all of the letters, not just the centres. The only way I can think of to do it is rasterise the image and then 'erase' the centre, but this would be messy and inefficient. I know this should be straightforward, but appear to be pretty well stuck now. I assume this is something real simple that I am missing. Can anyone enlighten me? Thanks Jim
  12. I just saw Kubo and I can't get over how amazing it was so I decided to create some fan art. This seemed like as good a time as any to try out the Noise option in AD to give a textural, paper-like feel. I absolutely love how noise is seamlessly integrated into this program. I've avoided texturing things like this in past programs because it was too cumbersome, time consuming, and CPU intensive. None of that frustration here. What a wonderful feature. Great job Affinity!
  13. My first attempt of comic book lettering in Affinity Designer ;)
  14. Band logo, font art, layout … just a crafted font … :) http://b-bertuleit.de/portfolio/digital-art/a-crafted-font/
  15. Have made these letters for a newspaper coming out this September in Japan. This image is a preview, the letters will be published one by one each in a square. 100% Affinity Designer (which is super-cool!)
