I've run into a major issue trying to learn Affinity Photo 2 and Designer 2. I want to try Publisher 2 for some upcoming projects, but I'm concerned at this point it's going to be very difficult and that I may need an alternative. Are there text, not video, guides/how-to/help manuals for these programs? When I try searching online for resources to answer specific questions, I am often shown the wrong version, program, or OS, and no, search engines don't care about quote marks generally, so searching for something in Photo 2 can get me results for Photo 1, or either version of Designer. Also, many of the reseults I get are for windows, and I'm on an iPad. I desperately want text, not video, because video takes huge chunks of time (especially compared to scaning a page) to figure out the information I need isn't even there. If I check a few results I can loose an hour before I know what happenned. I've been working with digital art programs, including those for photo editing and graphic design, for 20ish years now. I know what the feature I need is, I just don't know where to find it in these programs. I fully accept that there are going to be differnces from Adobe, and I don't need the Affinity interface to be the same as any of the other programs I've used over the years. I do need to be able to quickly skim a resource, find out where the devs put the tool I need, and contunue with my project. Do text rescources detailing where to find and how to use tools in Affinity 2 programs on iOS exist? If so, where are they? Thanks in advance for any help. -
Hi All. I'll be 76y/o in a few weeks (April 2023), so no spring chicken! Art has always been a self-schooled, serious hobby for me, working with colour pencils, water colour, water colour airbrush and oils. I have been comfortable doing fairly basic photo manipulation in PhotoShop for years, but dumped them for Affinity when they went subscription - and don't miss them one bit! So ... I thought, Why not give digital art a go with this wonderful new suite! Eighteen months in and - from absolutely nowhere - I have illustrated three children's picture books for two different authors. All have been granted Mom's Choice Awards, Honouring Excellence on all three and I'm working on a fourth as I write. I love working digitally. I'm a huge fan of illustrations by Beatrix Potter and I like to think my work is in that vein with a modern twist. I have attached a few favourites here. All created entirely in Affinity Photo ... Enjoy!

Dear Serif, Please make the Youtube tutorials for V2 listed, so that whenever I want to find what, for example, a certain image filter does, I can just type its name and look it up on Youtube. I prefer looking at your videos instead of reading the docs. However, none of the videos come up in searches, so I find (in my opinion) lower quality third party videos instead.

Hi All, As a newbie with many other work tasks assigned, I'm trying my best to carve a little time here and there in learning Publisher. I'd like to avoid the construct of how other software is taught. Ex. MS Word was taught as if every skill used in Word had the same importance to everyone. I learned over time that features like Mail Merge are rarely used by many (most?) word-processor users. Thus, a lot of time was devoted to mastering skills I've never or rarely used when it would have been more effective to learn the top, say, 15 or so features you'll use Word for mostly - ex. Find and Replace, Bold certain phrases, etc. It would be very helpful and appreciated if those with actual Publisher experience would please share maybe a list of the name of the tops features used daily/often to create graphics form scratch? I'm wondering if there's any way to share (just as an example of building skills sets) "with those skills you can create"... a flyer and with these additional sills you could create a newsletter and with these additional skills you could create an ezine? When I teach patrons the 3D Printer I show then how they can find free files and then how to download those files and then take a simple file and print that just so they can see what beginner skills can produce which results. Each session will advance their skills - designing a print from scratch, modifying an object, etc. so they can create something simple and then add to their 3D print creation skills. I looked at a LinkedIn Publisher class but it just lists all these skills by name. As a newbie, you may not even know what those terms mean nor what they'll enable to to create. There are plenty of YT videos but many try to cram as much as they can into 15 minutes or an hour and you just get lost or it's too much too soon and again without you knowing what you can create with those specific skills. Shape or path interpolation

Hi all, Not sure if I am missing it, but is there some kind of shape interpolation feature in Affinity Designer? I swear I read it before, but I can’t seem to find the functionality. The idea is to have two shapes or paths (ie, a curved and a straight one), and having the software calculate the intermediate forms depending on the number of defined steps between them. Much appreciated for the help. -
Hello Everyone! I recently purchased both the Photo and Designer of Affinity. I am a young entrepreneur with various online ventures. I am not sure if I should invest 50-100 hours in both Photo and Designer or I should just hire a freelancer from sites like Fiverr or Freelancer etc.... I am a quick learner and I am able to make time for this on the side and just work extra. I know basic Photoshop (used Gimp before), I don't have a tablet with pen for drawing, I love to learn new things and am inspried by art/graphic design/marketing. I was also thinking of maybe buying moc icons and other designs from online sites and use those as starting points. If I spend 150 hours in total, watching the videos on their Vimeo and such, do you guys think I will be good enough for decent edits and maybe even illustrations like our basic but creative and nice logos? Or do you guys think the fact that the freelancers may be cheaper, more creative with their expertise and saving my time for more important business stuff would be more valuable? I appreciate your feedback! -
Suggestion: Make study guides to go with the work books and simple follow along videos on the basics skills. Like a school book where there are exercises at the end of each chapter to complete-such as - vocabulary-matching exercises; many short concept practices for the basics ; comprehension: -Show tell how you accomplished this in a written paragraph, a drawn diagram-etcetera. Easy level short follow along videos for the basic skills. These approaches could be helpful to some customers with learning, using, and practicing the basic skills so they can feel confident and good when employing these magnificent Affinity Designer/Publisher/Photo software programs. -
I just wanted to thank the Affinity Photo team for publishing the Affinity Photo Workbook! I've come to realize that for me, as a Photoshop user, there was just no way to figure out Photo by myself, and the tutorials were too specific - what I needed was an overview. And panic was setting in, because when I get a new Mac, I have to upgrade to Catalina, which means finally ripping off the bandaid that is Photoshop CS6. It's taking effort and time, but nothing has made me more optimistic than going through the absolute learn from beginning chapters in the WorkBook. As I'm finally seeing how Affinity Photo works, I feel like I'm making the software my own. As soon as I can finally mimic my most common photoshop tasks, it's finally good bye Adobe for me. I feel like giving back, so I've decided that once I finally feel like I can generally use Affinity Photo, I'll try to make some videos specifically to help those people coming off of Photoshop to transition. It's a false sense of familiarity - Affinity Photo LOOKS like Photoshop, but it is operated so much differently. Here's to finally reaching Steve Job's original dream of being able to sell software like Photoshop for only $50. My one request: Could you also make the WorkBook available in digital form so I could refer to it on my iPad? That would also allow you to cheaply update it to keep it current. I fondly call this instant classic "The Pink Book". - Jeff -
Where are the Samples saved that are included on the Welcome screen? The samples are helpful in learning. After downloading once, they open quickly from the Welcome screen each time the program starts. But when selecting File > Save or Save As, that menu option is greyed out. -
I wanted to start a topic for everyone new to affinity designer who's working through the work book or just teaching them selves the basics to upload your highs, lows struggle and flow of your progress or any help some of the senior users would be more than welcomed

Hey guys, i hate to admit but its been a while since i try and learn new things on both Affinity Designer Affinity Photo. I need help finding an online course to do that can guide me through the program to really cement my skills. I dont mind paying but it would be really cool to find one where u can obtain some sort of certification. Do those exist for Affinity? I know there are a re few online courses for the Adobe programs but im not a fan of Adobe. Anyways, can someone point me in the right direction?

Hi to everyone! This is a personal project, the illustration was made by my daughter and I redrew it to AD. Maybe it can be useful, to have new examples on optimizing the project using the lines; the project is just 450kb (see the outline view).in this project I used very few forms. many objects are just lines with different types of hatching. The Dash line is a powerful tool in AD and allows me to create interesting objects. I thank AffinityTeam for the amazing job on the selections and the snap tools, in AI I use a lot more time and I do not have the same result. (it's one of the reasons why I left AI for AD). Moreover I also did an animated version using Hype and I discovered that the new vector tools (in the current Beta) are very similar to AD!! (also the SVG source). So, I decided to share this file because even the animation was much appreciated and I hope you like it. I am a new convert to Affinity, and so far it is the best thing going in my world. It has all the features I need and more. My problem is my transition from Adobe products. Others have complained about the size of the icons down the left side of the screen and I too would like larger icons as I learn. I have plenty of screen real-estate with multiple monitors etc, so larger icons would be a big help with no down side. What would be an ever bigger help is text labels on each icon. There are over 100 tiny icons, and each just might make sense to the originating programmer, and they may eventually make sense to me, but until I learn, having the ability to turn on a text label to the right of the icon would make my learning process much faster and just might increase the speed of adoption of your great software by others. You already have text labels on the icons across the top and the ones on the left, so how about some on the right. I can hear the programmers now: "That is not possible because there can be multiple columns of icons with multiple languages." My reply is as I stated at the start of this request - Screens are cheep and most of us have plenty of screen real-estate so if I select labels, make columns of icons with labels. As for languages, I suspect if you asked, there would be hundreds of volunteers to provide translated labels. Yes it will be less elegant, and it will take up lots of screen space, but it would make my life and the life of other adopters much, much easier. As a side note, that is why I do not use Olympic brand cameras. They only have icons for functions and I was unable to operate the camera without a manual in my hand and I tried for over 3 months. This is where I am with your software today. Nikon has a better answer I can read the screen in english for every function. Could you please follow Nikon not Olympic! Finally - Thank you for an excellent replacement for Adobe products. I only commented to make an excellent product even better. You will be receiving more of my money even though I need to keep a paper manual nearby with function names.

Dear Serif, Please can we have the Affinity Workbook as either an online option that is accessible through the program when working or as a downloadable PDF. The print in the book looks very small, so I would find it very hard to read, assuming that it is A5 size. Will you be doing it in a larger size of large print? Thank you
