  1. Set text styles's left indent and apply the style to a paragraph. Position cursor in front of the first letter of a paragraph with left indent set and hit delete. Left indent gets 'deleted' as if it was tabs. (see attached file) I believe this to be a bug since I am unable to increase the indent (which would make this a function by design), text layout is too easy to mess up, ignores text style. deleting left indent AP Beta 1.7.2.442.afpub
  2. Managing columns, rows, guides and grids is currently done via various manager dialogs and is a little bit ’old school’ considering how smoothly the rest of the software works. Would it be possible, or even make sense, to have a new persona where we can manage all of this kind of thing? I don’t know how this would work with Publisher and its master pages (e.g. different guides in different master pages) but I think it would make Designer easier to use. I’m imagining features such as being able to: * use power duplicate on guides; * group or mass-select guides to manipulate them together; * drag the grid itself to change its size and orientation; * save guides/layouts for import into multiple projects; ...and I’m sure other people have better ideas. I haven’t thought this through very much so there could be major problems with the idea but I wanted to throw it out into the community to see what people thought about it.
  3. Hey everyone! Please consider including saving and loading the studio layout to and from file (windows, toolbar content, tools position and content) for Designer, Photo and Publisher. This would speed up things when - using the software on multiple Macs - having the layout set back by an update (e.g. 1.7) - going from a beta version to the store version It took me about 45 minutes to setup the UI for Affinity Publisher, including Designer and Photo persona, on two Macs. Also, I think the Designer and Photo personas of Publisher should read the UI layout of Designer and Photo. Best wishes, Shu
  4. Hello there, I love publisher so far but unfortunately it is almost unusable for my work since there is no way to do a spread with three or more pages. Is this planned to be changed soon? Otherwise, I have no possibility but to return to InDesign which would be a real shame. Thanks for any information on this topic!
  5. I saved an own table of contents layout. When I tried to delete it, Publisher crashed.
  6. I worked on a multi-page document yesterday, and quickly got frustrated because I could not find a way to override the No. of columns setting at the paragraph level. It is useful to be able to do this because you can then have titles and introductory paragraphs than span the full width of the text area in the same text box as the main text. This makes master pages way more flexible. You do not have to create separate text boxes for titles and introductory paragraphs. You can also do other things, like having a wide text column, and then, in the text flow, you can override the number of paragraphs, and have a multi-column section right in the main flow. FrameMaker could do this, and it was very useful, both for short articles and longer non-fiction documents.
  7. Hello, When setting up Column guides with the guide manager, I set it to outline not fill but when the document closes and is reopened it reverts back to the fill grey state.
  8. Hey everyone! It would be great if there was a way to rearrange the UI (tools and icons like layers or symbols). Also, including tools like gaussian blur, that can be added as optional tools on desktop, would be great. Best wishes, Shu
  9. I am very new to Affinity Publisher so it may be that I just have not approached the menusw correctly. I regularly publish an 8pp A6 brochure, which I print 4 pages to view on oversized A4 paper, fold stitch and trim to size. The two page spreads must of course be pages 1 & 8, 2 & 7, 3 and 6, 4 & 5. The four pages to view are 1 & 8 with 4 & 5. See illustration attached, likewise with the relevant inside pages. I have been doing this for ages with Illustrator and Photoshop, but have been looking for a publishing program which can do the heavy lifting for me. the nearest I have got is the dreaded Microsoft Publisher which at least can deal with the 2 page spreads. Have I missed out somewhere that Affinity Publisher can do this? PAGES.tif
  10. Where can I add columns to my layout (not only to a text box)?
  11. Is there a way to show bleed area so the finished page size is visible as in PP?
  12. Ok, so one of the paramount useful features of Sketch is layout grids. Being able to define a layout grid with columns and gutters without resorting to a mess with guides is great. I believe the Affinity could improve greatly on the Sketch grid, so here is my proposition for the improved layout grid and thoughts on how it could interact with the constraints feature that really needs to be fleshed out as well. First of all Affinity Layout Grid Create Movable grids with columns and gutters Grids should be resizable but should keep their ratios Support for breakpoints in grid definition, eg. the same grid should switch to mobile view if resized smaller. Padding around the grid should be separated from gutter values. Support snapping Support nameable size ranges (breakpoints) (eg. define XL as a range, L as a range etc.) Affinity Improved Constraints Support fixed distance padding eg. 20px manually entered Constrain to columns from the layout grid Support and remember breakpoints when constraining to layout grid Toggle visibility based on layout grid range Reflow text options Support minimum flex, (eg. resize with this untill this unit is 100px wide) support Div flowing, when resized smaller than minimum flex, reflow other objects as divs would. Support different symbols based on layout grid range, toggle to replace an area with another symbol when going down to small views I'd love to see any number of these features implemented, with things like this we could actually create responsive flexible layouts that would be able to be resized instead of creating multiple views for each page.
  13. Would be great to be able to create guides within the Guide Manager based on number of columns, rows and gap size. Scribus has implemented that feature in a very nice way (see picture below). Any chance that this could be implemented in Affinity Publisher?
  14. I understand that the print layout is in the Print dialog because it relates to printing, and that the Layout could be different each time, but I also find it clumsy. I would like to create Layouts that I could save and use over, or use to make another Layout by just changing a few parameters. I would also like to see a more graphic interface. The print preview in this dialog is ridiculously small, and almost useless. The old Page Plus did this much better. Although I specify a Paper Size: “Letter”, the Width and Height shown in this dialog are GIGANTIC!. (see the attached) Since I already created a left margin on the page, I shouldn’t have to do it here on the Print dialog, but I must to make it work.
  15. Lots to learn! Thanks for the tutorials and I do hope some in-depth explorations will be added. Speaking of: Are there any automatic means built in to deal with those poor widows and orphans when linking text boxes, like the other guys "Keep Lines Together" option? I've only been playing around with this for a few minutes, but, so far, so good. I hope to use Affinity Publisher for the Fall issue of our magazine. This will be the app that may finally allow me to stop paying that $53 EVERY month! Thanks!
  16. For those of us stuck with using ANSI paper sizes, InDesign has a number of additional page size presets that are extremely useful for making booklets. In particular, it would be great to have half-size versions of letter, legal, and ledger paper (i.e. 5.5 × 8.5 in and so forth).
  17. Hi guys! I needed to create a custom design for a Brand manual and I was struggling with the fact that there's no layout grid option like sketch. So I decided to download the illustrator templates of the 960.gs grid system and adapt it to affinity designer using the constraints (so no matter how wide your artboard is, the grid will always strech porportionally). Hope you find this as useful as me. You've got three files: 12 column layout 16 column layout 24 column layout Happy designing! 960_grid_12_col.afdesign 960_grid_16_col.afdesign 960_grid_24_col.afdesign
  18. So I sprained my ankle exactly a week ago. No more longboarding for a while! Since I got my X-ray images on a CD, I thought it would be nice to play with them a little. I didn’t have anything particular in mind, this was freestyle, and somehow ended with a title page for a magazine, I suppose. I used Designer for the final layout, although the DICOM images were processed in Photoshop. It was my go to app and frankly, I didn’t think for a moment if Photo could handle DICOM, too. I wish there was a multi-column functionality in AD… In case you were wondering, the typeface used was Bona Nova family. It’s been released fairly recently and it’s a result of a tremendous collaboration between Andrzej Heidrich, the traditional graphic artist (who also happened to have designed banknotes in Poland among other stuff) and a young but already prominent type designer, Mateusz Machalski. If you’re interested, you can read more at http://bonanova.wtf. Cheers! Matt
  19. Hi Affinity Team. Hi Community. Ist es möglich Hilfslinien in einem Affinity Designer Artboard zu sperren? Ich habe viele Hilfslinien für eine Druck-Vorlage. Jedoch passiert es häufig dass ich diese aus Versehen verschiebe. Is it possible to lock guides in a affinity-designer artboard? I'm working on a print template. And I often move the guides accidentally. Danke Euch! Thanks! Christian
  20. I think that Affinity Designer needs to be able to create animations of transformation and transition of an interface and more generally the UI/UX prototyping. Thanks. I love this software.
  21. I'm pretty sure there are other requests for this, but being able to save window arrangements/layouts into custom workspaces is a pretty essential feature. I use Photoshop and Illustrator, but will sometimes use Affinity Designer and Photo for fun. My Illustrator is CS6, so I'll often use Designer to at least convert my AI vector to a more modern/stable copy or just design it in Designer if I don't need to use the Illustrator features I'm use to using. Having to rearrange my windows every time or make due with the default layout everytime I switch to an Affinity program is extremely cumbersome. On the whole, I love the programs Serif Labs have put out and think they're extremely functional and promising. It's fun and exciting to see how they're progressing and I hope they continue developing like they've been doing
  22. I am trying to cut around an image and put into a layout program like I can do with Photoshop. Am I really not able to do this Affinity? When I exported it I said "save without background" but the white background still comes into Quark. Is there a way to do a clipping path like you can with Photoshop?
  23. Hello would it be possible to have a separate windows mode but keeping all the rest of the tools and nice dark grey background present in the back and keeping those two separate windows separate but inside this dark grey area. Thanks this would be a very useful option i think. Also being able to save various layout to be able to accommodate our tools according to the available space and monitor. Best Regards.
  24. Sorry if this is a repeat, I tried to search for something in the same vein, and nothing came up. I recently upgraded my laptop to a Windows 2-in-1 compatible with the wacom ink pen (so I can look at my hand while I draw.) This puts me in tablet mode, and that's where there is a bit of a break down, as much of Affinity is in menus and hot keys, really. (Undo/redo, selection options, transform, etc) For now I'm thinking of trying at 180* setup (to remain in PC mode) with a mouse and wireless keyboard to the side, but I hope that in the future there will be a more touchscreen-friendly user interface for PC users. I imagine that the mac tablet product design could be ported to PC with relative ease? Even a custom toolbox that maps selected menu commands to a button would make a huge benefit. Also, an option to make the drawing window only recognize pen input would be lovely. (The note program Squid has something similar.) Hovering close enough to activate the pen recognition but not draw a dot before resting my palm is pretty tricky sometimes.
