  1. Just started using Affinity Designer. One thing that I have an issue with, at least for my workflow, is when I have many many layers in an artboard / group, the only way to collapse it all is to scroll to the top where the parent layer is and right click and select "collapse layers". In Sketch, I was able to set up a key command to quickly collapse all layers. Is there a way to do this in Affinity Designer? I tried looking in the key command section of preferences and was unable to find a place to add one. Thanks!
  2. Thanks in advance friends... ...when flattening into a single pixel layer, do I first need to rasterize the grouped layers? Not sure how to do this, i.e, I'm unclear on the steps involved, and the proper order in which to perform them. A brief walk-thru would be greatly appreciated. FYI - I am wanting to manipulate the Flat image (bend, curve around a cylindrical surface such as a large barrel or a utility pole, alter perspective and/or viewing angle, stretch by pulling/moving nodes independently of each other, etc). greateful for your help, -Christo
  3. Is there any shortcut for locking layers in AD? In AI there is a handy ctrl-2 to lock layers. Is there an option?
  4. Hello, I'm new here, have been waiting for the beta to come on Windows and pretty happy you guys did it ! In my job as a motion designer i use a lot of Ps and Ai before animating stuff, and I was testing compatibility between softwares to see if I could make the move to Affinity Designer . So far I have only one problem:loosing my layers when exporting as .eps. Is there a way to fix that ? I usually really need to keep my images split in multiple layer before animating, and that's something a .ai file enables me to do. Thanks !
  5. Hi! I've had a continual problem that seems ridiculously simple to fix, but for some reason, I can't find the information. Basically, I export from lightroom, and edit in affinity. Since the latest patch, affinity (thankfully) automatically reflects any changes I save in the affinity file/window. However, I cannot close the affinity file, or it won't automatically reflect those changes anymore. I can accept that, but here's where I really struggle. Even when I save such a file with "save as" and "with layers", if I open the .afphoto file at a later date, it seems to have removed all my work and layers, and only saved it as a pixel/rasterized image. So it basically ends up being a destructive edit. Is there any solution to this?
  6. I am compositing multiple layers, using masking to control the visibility of lower layers. I have a really simple example, but I see that there is a transparent or white fringe around the main shapes where the colours of the lower layer do not 'meet' the higher layer. I attach a snapshot of the image issue and also of the layers tab. the main shapes (flowers) have themselves been created by selection or eraser to separate them from a background, and they sit on a transparent background. I figure that I am doing something simple wrong, although I have watched the relevant videos (I think!). So would welcome tips to rectify.
  7. Hello guys! An interesting and welcome addition to Affinity Photo would be something like a ‘split view for comparison’. A way to compare and edit versions (or Snapshots) of an image without having to duplicate it and use Separated Mode or toggle between tabs. An example would be when I apply the ‘Curves’ and ‘Soft Proof’ adjustment layer to an image to prepare it for print. I would like to have one window where I can see the original and another window right next to it, preferably optionally mirrored, with the adjustment layers active to edit and compare it to the original image (or Snapshot or state when I entered this split view mode). I think the basic elements for this feature are already available in Photo (i.e. Snapshot) and it comes down to the ability to arrange (and mirror or split) your windows/views. The ability to arrange windows (tabs) next to each other without having to enter Separated Mode would be a valuable addition and to a large extent fulfill this feature request. What do you think?
  8. I just downloaded the trial of Affinity Photo for Windows and so far I'm really impressed! :) I'm checking it out to see if it's a viable replacement of Photoshop before purchase. Of course, as any new software there are some questions. When I upscale small resterized objects they look pixelated. In Photoshop they get filtered and a bit sharpened with large radius so the loss of quality and pixelation due to upscaling is not that apparent. When I save the document as JPG or any other image format, everything looks fine and no pixelation appears. Please see the screenshot below: Maybe this is on purpose? Maybe a way for Affinity Photo to keep document size low because unfiltered/pixelated layers require less information to be stored? If they get filtered after resize, all the blurred pixels and their gradations/shades have to be stored in the file which increases file size. Maybe doing the filtering at the end of the design process (when exporting to raster file) ensures low document size? So what's the way to tackle this and see better filtered enlarged objects while still working on the document? Is there a toggle that let's you preview the document with all enlarged objects filtered the same way as they are filtered after export? Thanks in advance! :)
  9. 'morning folks, Would of y'all mind walking me through (or pointing me toward) creating a new Asset file? As a follow-up to the above, things I'm hoping to save are obvious I'm sure but I'll mention them anyway...Grouped-layers composing icons/logos I've created that I need to frequently use (duh). I'm sure your responses will answer all my newbie questions so I'll just wait to see them before posing any more painfully obvious ones. Thanks! -Christo
  10. I need help to get my small brain round this... I have drawn a vector of a wind turbine outline. I am wanting to finally produce a png with the transparent shape of the turbine "punched through" a white foreground, if that makes sense. I can't work out how best to achieve this. Help appreciated. Pete
  11. Hi, I am new the Affinity Designer app and I would like to know how to keep all layers visible at once while working on my vision if possible. I can get all layers to show at once but the problem is, is that when I click on one layer from the main design area, all other layers will dissappear. This makes it hard for me to position my design layers in relation to other layers.
  12. AD family, This issue I'm trying to sort/figure out MUST be something extremely simple. My apologies for posting again on the same topic but my brain has not served me well on this one. Ive designed a simple image/logo made up of 8 or 9 layers, then grouped them together. My desire was then to duplicate the entire image (group of layers) which I successfully via the cmd+j shortcut. you can see the dups in the layers panel in 1 of the 2 screenshots I've attached below. Here's where Im hitting a wall...using the Move tool, I select/click the topmost grouped-layer in an attempt to drag the duplicates apart and play around with them. When I do this all 4 grouped-layers move around with each other as if 'locked' together. I took a peek at the Line view and could see that in fact all 4 duplicated groups had been moved, and were NOT stacked atop each other as I'd thought. Any/all guidance is greatly appreciated. Thanks for bearing with the elementary questions. Regards, -Christo
  13. Hi When i try to record a macro in the windows version of Affinity Photo, I am unable to switch between layers. For example if I create 2 duplicates of my background layer, and make a high pass adjustment to the top layer, I am then unable to switch to the layer beneath to make another adjustment. Also, I am unable to change the name of any layers whilst the macro is recording. Any help much appreciated.
  14. Hi there, I have been using Photoshop CS4 for some years but thought I would give Affinity Photo a try. I am stuck at what seems a very basic hurdle. I have a PSD 420 x 287 px. Within it I have several layers each an image of 400 x 267 px. The background is white and therefore gives a 10 pixel border. All I want to be able to do is merge visible, select all and copy and paste to another layered PSD, this however only ever copies the image and not the image plus background ... how do I copy and paste the whole area selected? Thank you
  15. Hi Affinity-Team, yesterday I downloaded the affinity photo trial for windows. Overall it seams to fit my purposes very well, however I do have a few questions which I will post in separate topics. This one is about adding/opening images as layer. In Gimp (which I am using up to now), as well as in photoshop, there is a function "open image(s) as layer(s)" which allows me to create an image existing of several layers with each layer created from another file or add a new layer to an existing file which is also created by loading the contents of an arbitrary image file. In affinity photo I saw that I can create a new stack of images to automatically align them. However when I ungroup them this seams to have a similar effect as the desired one, but I saw no possibility to add a new layer from a file to an existing image - have I missed something? Thanks for your answer in advance!
  16. Hello, I would like to suggest a couple features for layer management. The first being able to click and drag down the column of checkboxes (layer visibility) and be able to toggle them on and off in the process. Targeting each individual layer can be tedious and time consuming. This would also be a great function to add to the locking of layers. Also, being able to alt+click one specific layers checkbox to turn the visibility off of all other layers, accept the one clicked. Thanks!
  17. It would be very useful to be able to right-click on the fx in the layer and a drop-down list appear offering the ability to copy and paste just the layer fx. Then to be able to select another layer and right-click on the fx and select paste to apply. This is extremely useful to apply all the text fx on artistic text to another text layer to maintain design efficiency. This is available in PhotoShop through "layer styles" and is something I use all the time. Thank you. I have bought both Photo and Designer and I am very pleased with Photo. I have been looking/waiting for a Photoshop replacement I can use for years. Well done Serif! PS: Someone also mentioned the option to remove fx too which is an excellent idea and could be part of the above options?
  18. I am struggling with Affinity designer layers. I come from the world of Adobe Designer, with objects on specific layers and carefully separated. But I am completely baffled by layers in AD! When I select a layer and then add an object, that object is immediately shifted to the Artboard layer. When I drag it up to Layer 1 (or Layer 2), where it was supposed to be, then a second Layer 1 or 2 is created. In each layer are hundreds of objects, which means it is quite difficult to move from one layer to another, or even find another layer, because you have to scroll up or down so far. there doesn't seem to be a command that forces all sublayer objects to not be viewed - in other words, to simplify the Layer panel display so that it is somewhat manageable. Things were easy and very manageable in AI, even though I might have many tens of layers. Now, I can even get a single object to be created on layer 2 - it just automatically plops itself on the art board layer - even if that layer is locked. I have read all the available information on layers, but they don't address any of these problems. Yes, I can create, delete, or move a layer up or down. Yes, I can give it a name and a color. But no, they won't lock, they won't allow me to create an object on that layer (always automatically creating the object on the art board layer), and the sheer overwhelming numbers of sublayers (one for every object), makes doing anything with layers heinously difficult and time consuming. What am I missing? HELP. I am trying to shift to AD, but Adobe Illustrator is looking so sweet and easy now. All the best, Rick
  19. The layer properties from the one in the Workbook files show - mine not. I want to set my own color to the layer thought Pls advise properties.afphoto
  20. I started working on an image, which I wanted to change from colour to Monochrome with a spot of colour left in it. I followed a tutorial and it all worked out fine however… having done all that I then spotted several things, which I wanted to make Darker or Lighter and even a few objects that I wanted to Clone Out or use the Inpainting Brush Tool to remove several objects. Ended up with more adjustment layers as well as two more group layers (1 for dark & 1 for Light) However, I'm not at all sure if I've done it in the correct order because some of the parts of the image, which I've made darker are no longer shown as Dark when all layers have been 'ticked'. So, the question or questions are …Is there a 'Set Way' to go about these two different alterations to an image? If there's not a set way then is there a tutorial out there some where that explains/teaches how and when to use different Layers? ~ What the Do's & Don's are ~ When to Group Layers and why? ~ On some tutorials, (some) Layers are 'Worked On' and then they're moved up or down the various other Layers and sometimes they are even bedded into or underneath another different Layer. A full & clear explanation of the above Layer, Layers, Groups & Masking workings would be brilliant not only for the image I'm working on but for all the various other effects that I will want to try & add to an image in the future. Thanks in advance
  21. Can some one tell me what the difference is between a fill layer and a pixel layer, if there is a difference? The one difference that I know of is that when a fill layer is used you can continue to edit a gradient but on a pixel layer you can't. cheers, Jason
  22. I understand how to use Frequency Separation, but once you are finished how do you combine the two layers to get back to normal editing? Thanks
  23. So for some reason, I was trying to export an SVG file and only one or two layers are being exported. I have done others the same way and was able to get all the layers to export. What would be different about this image that all the layers are not being exported? Any help would be appreciated!
  24. Hello there, I work in AD. The software is great, thanks for that. I need to export to PDF or SVG or EPS, does not matter to me ... including layers, that I could open the file in Adobe Illustrator and could see the layers. I was trying to find out on affinity forum, but I was not successful. Is there a way to do that please? Unfortunately, exporting to PDF does not do the job. Nothing is rasterized and after opening in illustrator there is just one layer instead of 3 created in AD. And what more, there are separated objects, the ones with fill and the ones with strokes. I mean, in AD it is an object with fill and stroke and after exporting to PDF and opening in AI these are two different objects, one with stroke and one with fill. I don't know why is that ? Thanks for help. I attached a file. 1100235_58_ultra_terno.afdesign
  25. As the title says, when I lock a layer (click on lock icon) in AP 1.5.1 I can still edit the layer, i.e. erasing content. Very annoying. Also cannot select multiple layers for grouping, etc., using Wacom stylus and Intuos 5 (driver v. 6.3.20-4). Please fix ASAP.
