  1. Sup people! I've been checking out this application and I'm really impressed with what it can do. I've been porting over my Photoshop work flows, and it has handled every task I've thrown at it. And like everyone else, I'm just looking for a little help. I've been trying to figure out the layers/channels tools in Affinity, and how to use them. I'm an environment artist and this is specific to my terrain workflow. During the production process, I've always taken my textures for a few passes through Photoshop. As part of my editing, I would use masks that I've created to edit specific areas of my diffuse texture. Example: Copy my masks into the alpha channel and start working with "Adjustments", "Layer Effects", etc. Thing is, I can't seem to get Affinity to perform the same tasks. I've checked a few of the Channels/Masks tutorials, but I just can't seem to find what I'm looking for. Either that, or I'm missing something. I have provided a screenshot of the WIP terrain, as well as the diffuse texture and masks. Any help would be appreciated.
  2. Hello guys. I bought both AP and AD a few month ago, I felt they are so unique from Adobe products but I'm actually liking it. I would like to draw characters like Shopkins with AD(image bellow). I quite like how much I can control AD's stroke, like brush width. So I would like to keep it, But once I apply Inner Glow Layer Effect, it covers the stroke as well. Is there any way to apply Layer Effect without stroke? Using LayerEffects>outline instead of Stroke seems do the trick but I can't control width like stroke. Separating strokes and fill, or Expanding Stroke are the last option because I want to modify the shape until last moment. I tried Symbol but I couldn't separate stroke and fill. I found this comment, but I really can't find how to achieve it. "Yes, in other apps you usually use just the path structure as a clipping path. However in Affinity Designer you can choose between the shape or the stroke which provides a few more options to get creative with masks." https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/6738-trying-to-recreate-a-clipping-mask/ I attached files I'm working. It would be nice if someone gives me your knowledge...Thanks in advance. Icecream.afdesign
  3. Hello, I can't find a way to copy or save a color set in a color overlay layer FX to a swatch. If this is not possible yet, I think it's essential to a lot of UI designers out there. Thanks, Fernando
  4. Dear Affinity Team and Users, I am trying to figure out if there is a way to move/copy layer effects from one layer to another. There's no such option when right clicking on a layer and I've tried CTRL+click+drag, as well as ALT+click+drag, to no avail. Is there something that I am missing? Is there a smarter way to do this, than how I am trying to, or should I register it as a feature request? Thank you for your time!
  5. Hello! I recently tried to work with Affinity and although I like it all in all, there a two things that grind my gears: In the layer pane on the left where all layers are listed, there is a "fx" button. Let's say there are two Layers, "Layer A" and "Layer B". Clicking on one layer's "fx" button will always result in opening the currently active layer's effects. So refering to the example, if I am working on Layer A and click "fx" next to Layer B, I still get Layer A's effects. I have no idea if this is intended, but to me this is really counterintuitive. I suggest to change this to open the properties of the layer the button belongs to.Further, I wonder if Affinity will support "Contour" styles as I find them in Photoshop when using the "Bevel and Emboss" layer stlye: It seems that those are ignored/not imported, if I am trying to import some PSD file. Related to the Point above: Affinity doesn't seem to import contour splines (as Photoshop uses them for shadows or bevels etc) correctly. Some presets are missing which I guess will lead to those being ignored.(?) I didn't check custom drawn contour splines yet. Rendering bug: http://i.imgur.com/Rh7lyHb.jpg I drew an oval shape, and added some triangular bevel. Since it is triangular, one would expect the very outside is dark but in contrast there is a strange "glow". (the screenshot is zoomed in for better visibility) GUI Improvement: there is no cancel button in the layer effects windows. When playing around with the effects, all changes are immediately applied which messes up the history. The only workaround I found is to undo all the changes again which is pretty annoying.
  6. When I add a 100% gaussian blur effect to an object I can see what I can only describe as some kind halo or banding. In checking with the last release (1.4.2), it's there too. Is this normal?
  7. Hi, I would like to voice a feature request to the gaussian blur layer effect. In its current state when applying the gaussian blur to an object/layer, the edges of the object/layer are also blurred/feathered, which is great and expected! :) However, in some situations that’s not the desired effect. It would be great if there was a ‘clamp edges’ or ‘clamp transparency’ toggle in the gaussian blur settings that would preserve the layers edges when increasing the blur radius. This addition to the Gaussian blur effect would be beneficial for iOS design specifically but would also come in handy in other areas as well. I’ve attached two images for reference. I applied a gaussian blur effect in both Affinity and Illustrator. As you can see in the second image, Illustrator blurs the layer while preserving the edges. Thanks Cam
  8. Would like to see contour in bevel/emboss part of layer effects.
  9. Hi all, I've taken a PSD file (exported from CS6) and imported it into Affinity Photo. Although the import worked fine and all layers/groups are as expected, I've found all layers that had the drop shadow layer effect applied from Photoshop have had the effect merged into the layer in Affinity Photo. So I can't remove or edit the layer effect. This is the only layer effect that the PSD uses so I can't tell if it would do this for all layer effects or if it's specific to drop shadow. Is this meant to happen or is there a way I can prevent it from flattening the layer in future imports? Thanks.
  10. In Photoshop, if I sketch a rectangle (or any other shape, or use the Pen tool to create one) then give it a fill and a stroke, if I then choose Layer > Layer Style > Color Overylay, it affects only the FILL not the STROKE. But if I do the same in Affinity Photo (AP), the Color Overlay affects the FILL and the STROKE. It would be very useful if a new feature could be added to AP's Layer Effects dialog such that I can choose if the effect will work on the FILL or the STROKE or BOTH. Thanks.
  11. This was all done with text, vectors, and layer efffects. Watch the video here
  12. First let me just say that your product is great. BUT, it seems that you may not have had designer of big, if not huge scale in mind when you set up the effects panel. All the effects that have the radius adjustment only goes up to 100 points. And when you have letters and images larger that say, 24x36 inches all these effects are minute. Please consider reevaluating the radius to reach at least to PS levels which are at 250 pixels.
  13. The undocked Layer Effects window, Bevel and Emboss, after setting the Highlight color did not clear the added fields upon going to the Shadow fields. So fields overlapped other fields. See the attached, from 8.37.33. I could not load the sampled colors into the Highlight or Shadow fields from the Swatches using the sampled by the eyedropper. It placed black even though I had sampled a blue. From the RGB slider window it loaded fine. Same sampled color problem existed in the Gradient Overlay and Outer Shadow. I assume it's with all color selection fields in all Layer Effects.
  14. As you can see from the attached image file, the position of the parameters for the Highlight feature are incorrectly positioned. The image is a screen shot taken from my Mac Pro (early 2008) which has its original graphics card and lots of memory.
