  1. Is there a way to disable the opacity shortcut when using the number keys (1-9)? I use Affinity software for digital painting and illustration, and I keep accidentally hitting '3' instead of 'E' for the eraser and changing my brush opacity to 30% by mistake. I've also assigned Cmd+1 and Cmd+2 to rotate my canvas left and right, but the same problem here - I keep accidentally changing my brush opacity in the process if I don't perfectly press Cmd together with the number key. I don't use the number keys to set opacity of my brush anyway, so I would love to disable and/or customise those shortcuts to accommodate my workflow better, but I can't seem to find those keys anywhere in the Keyboard Shortcuts panel. I wouldn't recommend removing this shortcut for those who use it, but perhaps having the option to customise it would be helpful? Thanks in advance.
  2. I would like to request that the numeric keys, which are used to set the opacity of an object by default, become available for editing within the keyboard shortcuts section of the preferences. The reason for this is that these keys are very accessible, which is the reason I would like to use them to toggle between Photo's personas and edit inside of Photo/ Designer. Unfortunately though, some shortcuts will override the opacity shortcuts and others won't. This causes inconsistencies as discussed here:
  3. Observation In Affinity Designer there are multiple input options using the modifier key for shapes, these include: Holding shift to constrain to proportions (square, circle) Holding ctrl to scale the shape from the centre out Hold alt to ignore snapping Hold spacebar to move the shape (this is not in the tool description at the bottom of the window though). Shape and selection feature parity.mp4 Expectation However, in Designer, I may expect this to work for selection tools as well, whereas it currently does not. As you can see from the video, while using the same sequence of actions, there are things I expect to be able to do from using the shapes tool, that I cannot replicate with selection tools. Proposal My proposal for how it ought to behave is listed in italics below the observation of actual behaviour. Shift does constrain proportions (square, circle) This decision means you cannot use shift to add to a selection. In Photoshop, holding shift allows you to do both, first you hold shift to add to a selection (mitigating the need to reach to the toolbar for this) and after the initial click, you can release or press shift again to constrain the shape if needed. Shift constrain selection.mp4 Ctrl does not scale from the centre > it moves the selection with ctrl + LMB However, upon the initial creation of the selection window, with the selection drawn out, I don't see a reason why holding ctrl afterwards would not constrain the selection to be created from the centre. Alt does not ignore snapping > it subtracts from the selection (which is perfectly fine the way it is) Spacebar does not move the selection that is currently created This should be added to make more refined selections possible and to ensure continuity between the tools.
  4. Hi everyone, here's my problem: I'm working on a Publisher document and, while I work on this document and only on this document, when I press the apostrophe key to insert the apostrophe character (') I get the "«" (without quotes) character instead. Again, only in this Affinity Publisher document on my Mac. With other docs or applications everything is fine. Being Italian, I need a lot the apostrophe character. I am pretty sure i did something but really I have no idea on where to look. I started checking in Preferences>Abbreviations for all languages and in Preferences>Keybord Shortcuts even if these settings are global for all documents and, again I am having this problem ONLY in one (important) doc. Does a single doc have his own settings on keyboard shortcuts or text expander? Any other idea? Thank you for your help
  5. Hi there, I just finished my first illustration on Affinity Photo, and I can finally think I've found a good alternative to Adobe's softwares Especially one where I can recreate some of my long term habits from Adobe and remain efficient. The only problem I encounter is that I'm really, really used to control the size of my tools with the 2 and 3 key on the top left of the pad (so, rather the é and "). I find it to be the most comfortable for me as my left hand is always around there on the keypad while I'm drawing (oh look, there's also the ctrl and z keys nearby ). Well, so, it was quite disturbing that these num keys, by default, control the tool opacity and you can't change it at all. For now I've combined them with "alt" to control the brush/eraser size but (when I don't forget to press alt) it sometimes creates a conflict with the color picker shortcut (and I'm also used to constantly pick colors with alt). I don't know if I'm the only one wo needs to customize these keys but it would be really great if we could. Thank you and keep up the good work Serif !
  6. Hello I'm using a drawing tablet (Huion 950p) and I want to increase my brush size without using [ or ] because there isn't a possiblity to change the brush size individually. Now there is another option, the alt + rmouse + left mouse, but as you can may guess, that's very complicated to do with a graphic tablet. Huion's driver doesn't give the possibility to use rmouse and lmouse on the same button. So is there a way to change the hotkey alt + rmouse + lmouse to only alt + rmouse? Kind regards Andy
  7. Working in Mac OSX. Finding today that the modifier keys aren't working. Such as: Multiple selecting via the shift key. Command (or option, can't remember off hand) duplicate drag. Restarted, no luck, new update, same issue. I'm still getting used to this program so I'm wondering if there's something I'm missing. just weird and annoying.
  8. Hi guys, thank you for reading this. I would ask you to consider a very smart and intuitive way to navigate the canvas. Illustrator (and also Photoshop with some minor difference) uses the modifier keys Ctrl, Alt, Shift and Space in combination to activate or deactivate certain tools. This solution is very useful and super fast because you do not need to move your fingers over the keyboards and you do not need to hit a key twice to activate/deactivate a tool, but with just 4 keys you can access to all the navigation tools, like pan, zoom, select, and so on. You probably already know what I'm referring about, but I'll add a list of the most common combos (please note that being a combo means also to hold them together while using the tool): Ctrl = Object Selection (or, if Object Selection is active, it triggers Element Selection) Ctrl + Space = Zoom In Ctrl + Space + Alt = Zoom Out Alt = Drag Copy (also after clicking for drag, atm it works just before) If you have to deal with conflicts among other shortcuts, like combos already used for other functions, please contact me and I'll be happy to deal with it. Finding the same interface as the most popular software would have many advantages: - reduce frustration and improve experience using the software - reduce adoption time - triggers interoperability between software (so you can use the same habits while switching from one sw to another...yes, someone still does) - uses a model already spread and tested, based on years of experience I totally understand that this is another software and it's normal to not expect to find the same stuff of the competitors, but this is not the kind of thing that makes AD positively different from its competitors (imho of course); making the transition from one software to another as smooth as possible for as many users as possible I think is more valuable. I and a bunch of other folks would really love to find these combos in the next updates. Thank you for your attention. p.s. dear reader of this topic, please, add here other combos that you would like to have in the future.
  9. Hi, I'd like to request the possibility to assign to each shortcut not only the letter or number, but also the modifier. For exemple, now if I press ALT while I'm drawing a Bézier curve, I can move one of the handles freely to create a sharp corner. I'd like to be able to do that by pressing SHIFT instead of ALT. Also, to translate and object in a straight line, I must hold SHIF, what if I want to use CTRL? For a second sub-request, I'd like to ask if it's possible to assign more keys to shortcuts, for exemple, if I'm using whatever tool and I press ESC, it could give me the move tool (I'm weird, I know). But at the moment if I try to assign ESC to something, it just closes the settings window. I'm requesting theese because I used Inkscape a lot, and it has these mechanics I really liked. So to sum it up, I request more freedom about shortcuts assignement. Hope you can implement it, have a nice day
  10. Photoshop has a pretty elegant and consistent solution for modifier key usage in a majority of their tools: shift to constrain ratio, alt to modify around centre / origin, ctrl to modify specific points, warp selections etc. also with sensible default options for snapping and edge magnetism None of this seems to be a default or perhaps even possible thing in Affinity Photo as far as I can tell? For example, using the crop tool in Photoshop, it magnetises to the edges of the canvas and allows for the aforementioned modifier keys to constrain as described. Such a thing in Affinity seems like a chore and if the potential to do this is there and I just haven't found it, then it should be a default regardless in my opinion. Thoughts?
  11. While working with vector nodes, have holding +control snap handles to major degrees, i.e. 0, 90, 45, etc. Currently, +shift just locks the angle (and making handles lock equal distances from the main node), but it’s harder to find exact alignments. You could go as far as say +control to snap to major degrees document wide, and even adding +control +alt to adjust the degree snapping according to the angle of the node. But, I'd love at least document wide to quickly lay out points with a little more control.
  12. Right now you can hold +alt to break smooth lines when reshaping on a vector line between two nodes, but you can’t hold, say +shift, to reshape and smooth the two connecting points (basically the reverse of hold +alt). I find when converting artwork into vector, I’ll have more corner points that I want to smooth quickly by just reshaping the line(s). Or, artwork conversion creates a one handle node, so something like hold +control or +shift while reforming a line to form corresponding points to smooth would be wonderful. Right now, if the nodes only have one handle, broken handles (non-smooth) or no handles (corner point), I would select the line to form a handle (if it's missing), then select that point(s) until it formed a smooth node. It would be really efficient to just have a modifier key like +shift while reshaping the actual line to quickly form smooth both connecting points.
  13. Duplication is Command + J, Grouping is Command + G, which I find used a lot, yet they are “zoned” on opposite sides of the keyboard due to reach of each key with one hand (while the other is on the mouse or drawing tablet). Workflow commands like duplication, grouping, copy, paste would be much better UX wise to keep commands that are common to one side of the keyboard. (imo) So, suggestion is to make Command + D the default duplication shortcut.
  14. It would be wonderful if you could select individual curve adjustments points, and adjust them accordingly to the keyboard arrow keys.
