  1. in the keyboard shortcut editor, 'zoom toggle' is notably absent from the list of editable shortcuts. i would absolutely LOVE it if i could change this to 1. CMD and then 2. +spacebar (in that specific order). disclaimer: i have decades of photoshop muscle memory. general fact: control, option, and command are nearly universally modifier keys, meant to be used first in a two-key combo. affinity's use of spacebar first, then command to zoom into my document is the only software i've personally run across that reverses this concept. i use the zoom shortcut every 30 seconds in the type of work i do, sometimes even more. i play the desktop keyboard the way a guitarist plays a blazing metal solo when i'm designing or illustrating. now, i know there's a lot of Affinity crossover with photoshop's tools and shortcuts, so it would almost be better for me to have a different zoom shortcut entirely to get it further away from my aforementioned muscle memory. because of this one specific, seemingly 'petty' issue i have with affinity products, i've basically given up on using them for any serious work on desktop. i get much more use out of the iPad versions because zoom is logically replaced by a gesture. I see other posts on various sites bringing up this issue, and the claims are that this request has been submitted to affinity for years now, probably since v1. i'd be so incredibly appreciative if this was seriously considered and implemented. thank you for reading and namaste!
  2. Hello, Would it be possible to add the option for a keyboard shortcut to toggle the brush stabiliser on and off? Thanks for your consideration!
  3. HI, Hasn't come up after searching, so I don''t know if this has been requested. Though I did see others have complained about the source layer eye icon being poorly visible. Q1 The source layer eye icon certainly could be more accentuated. Struggle to know if it's on or off. Q1 Once I have a source layer selected in the Sources panel. I would like to be able to keyboard toggle on/off any chosen source layer, with an alpha or numerical key. This would be such an enormous help, quickening my ability to repair/clone anomalies after final focus merge output has completed. Really hope that Serif can develop/introduce this feature in an update. Otherwise I enjoy using Affinity Photo for my needs. Thank you and Regards Nadia
  4. There currently is a hide others function, which works well to isolate a group of objects. However, in a large document with a complex layer structure, I am unable to easily 'undo' this view state. Basically I want to be able to isolate objects, then make modifications and have it do one of two things: With a new selection, activating the hotkey should isolate the newly selected objects With no selection, it should show all objects prior to starting the isolation — effectively undoing the hiding operation(s) You can use the alt+click on thumbnails for isolation, but I want to map this as a keyboard shortcut to reduce mouse travel.
  5. I'm trying to do a quick dump of everything I've created in a layer (for drawing out ideas mainly) without having to stop drawing. Just a quick key to "wipe" what I'm working on. I looked in menus to see if there was anything I could use there to create a shortcut. Didn't seen an option. Thanks in advance ❤️
  6. Using a Wacom tablet, I am missing out on the option to edit both handles of a node simultaneously. When I drag and right click (I have a button assigned to right click in the Wacom driver) it always opens the right click menu for me. While this does not happen when using a mice, the choice of right mouse is rather uncomfortable as you also need to left click and drag for it to activate. Instead, I propose to use Ctrl + Shift as hotkey for Windows (instead of drag + right mouse). This is the hotkey used in most other apps to do this sort of thing.
  7. Please introduce a spacebar to zoom option in Affinity apps, it is much more accessible. For people who have acces to a three (or more button) mouse and/ or a pen tablet with remappable buttons, it would be neat to set zooming to Spacebar. I don't like the Ctrl+Spacebar zoom, especially since you need to press Ctrl first. However, with the aforementioned input devices, it is fair to assume users can leverage a middle mouse button to pan their view. I for one never use spacebar for panning at all. Whereas in Krita, I am able to opt to zooming by pressing just the spacebar and click dragging my pen. Anyone who wants a simplified zooming experience should be able to configure this, whereas those without such devices can still use the existing navigation methods.
  8. Let's say I want to open a particular page, but I don't quite know which one that should be. I would browse through the page previews and select the one I need. Currently, the Load pages input box has no clickable arrows and if you use the arrow keys of the keyboard (press left/ right or up/ down) this changes the cursors position. I would prefer that the up/ down arrows cycle the pages from 8 to 7 (with up pressed) or from 8 to 9 (with down pressed). I would also like clickable arrows (these are more easily discovered by the user), so I won't have to input all the page numbers manually, delete, re-input, rinse and repeat till I found the page.
  9. Moving tabs/windows using a mouse cursor can become a bit, " too much" and can become a bit difficult to do since the space, in height, is quite small, therefore, it's quite inefficient. Part 1: Moving tabs/windows left or right. If, this does get implemented, it would make my life a quadrillion times easier, as I'm a right handed person and I follow the Left to right system, so I organise my tabs from (current) -> (last). Part 2: Moving tabs/windows to the very left or to the very right. This, however, is gonna save more time, and makes things more efficient for people like me who organises their tabs from (current) -> (last), its gonna make our lives easier ... I have no clues on what to expand upon this. (I may change this post a little bit)
  10. Hi, I have affinity photo beta for windows and i wanted to know, how can i add keyboard shortcuts in Macros? Thanks in advance.
  11. There are a lot of unsupported or buggy keyboard-features in all Affinty-desktop-applications. For example here in the actual Publisher RC3. A very annoying bug, is the support of TAB and SHIFT+TAB (for jumping back) in the transformation-palette. You are able to jump forward in this section, but you are not able to jump backwards by using SHIFT-TAB. Another one: In the Glyph-Palette (Positioning and transformation) you only can jump through the fields within a column, if you want to change values in the other column, you have to use the mouse to change the column 😞 Please do a qualitycheck on these "simple" keyboard-features which are almost used by powerusers (which are multiplicators for distributing your software). Thanks for all the other great ideas and works on affinity-"suite". Martin
  12. is topic is all about keyboard shortcuts and the ability to use the software through custom keyboard shortcut functionality. With these suggestions I aim to reduce mouse movement and leverage the keyboard to alleviate muscle tension. Custom Shortcut to delete objects (for vectors), layers (including content and pixel layers. Perhaps, some may prefer there being separate options to delete vector objects, layers and pixel layers, though this proposal this particularly concerns deleting whatever is highlighted in the layers panel. Shortcuts to navigate through the layers panel by selecting the layer or object above or below. Illustration of 1, 2 using Krita, notice that I didn't need to move the mouse for this: F2 to rename layers/ objects (this is as though you clicked to rename the layer). Delete pixel layer content Illustration of 3 & 4 using Krita, notice I first deleted the layer, then undid this to show that you can delete the contents of the layer while keeping its location within the layers panel intact, as well as its name, the clear pixel layer content function circumvents the multi-step procedure of ctrl+a > delete > ctrl+d by enabling this operation with a single button press (e.g. delete, whereas backspace deletes the layer, but this should be user configurable). Delete pixel layer content and rename layer.mp4 Add new layer with a rename dialog pop-up (this is the default ctrl+shift+n command in Photoshop), which resolves the two step process of creating a layer and renaming it. Currently, you can configure shortcuts to switch between studio presets, however, I think it is just as valuable to be able to toggle between two different studio presets using a single keyboard shortcut. I use a one or two column setup and it would be nice if I could toggle between the presets I desire (e.g. to switch between studio preset 1 and 2 and back to 1, just like tab toggles hiding the interface) with a single shortcut. Ideally, you should be able to assign a given studio preset to either end of the toggle in the presets. Additionally, the name of the preset should be represented in the keyboard shortcuts section. So, basically, the name of the first studio preset in the list becomes the new name for "Studio Preset 1" in the keyboard shortcuts section and the second becomes the name for "Studio Preset 2". In other words, a list of studio presets with 1. Lineart, 2. Logo design, is listed similarly in the keyboard shortcuts as opposed to the current generic naming scheme. A change brush size shortcut (as replacement for Ctrl+Alt+LMB drag, pressing down two modifiers is quite demanding, Krita and Blender allow for assigning a alphanumerical key for this reason instead of a modifier key. It works as follows: press and release the shortcut key, then drag to the new settings (position) to confirm or, hover and click to confirm. The latter reduces muscle tension by quite a lot. In this case, it could still be multi-axis (left-right for strength, up-down for hardness or opacity). Also note, showing that showing the previous brush radius helps to indicate whether the new size is appropriate or not. Brush widget.mp4 Krita has a pop-up for the colour selector, which negates the need to the mouse/ pen to a studio panel, it is invoked with a hotkey. Krita also has a colour history pop-up, which shows the colours that were last used and is invoked with a hotkey. Though this could very well be paired with the colour selector pop-up. These two pop-ups are illustrated below: Colour selector and colour history pop-up.mp4 A shortcuts to activate the brush stabiliser (which should remember the last mode and length setting per mode), but perhaps people would also like direct control for either mode through keyboard shortcuts. Similarly, there's no shortcut to activate symmetry shortcut for brush strokes. The numeric shortcuts to set opacity to 10, 20, 30 ... 100% opacity interfere with my ability to set shortcuts to the numeric keys, therefore, these should be listed in the Keyboard shortcuts section so they can be disabled at will in favour for other shortcuts (i.e. changing personas with 1, 2, 3, etc. (also taking Affinity Photo into account where you have more personas). Instead, there could be an option to change settings for opacity and hardness by pressing a shortcut key, after which the cursor moves to the value box for the associated option (much like the F2 rename proposal). See discussion here: A configurable mouse & keyboard shortcut to rotate the canvas non-incrementally. This is different from the alt+mousewheel functionality, since pen tablets don't have access to this. Instead, this funtionality should be a combination of mouse/ pen input and a shortcut or modifier keys (not excluding spacebar) to invoke the command. For instance, spacebar + mmb drag is one of the combinations that comes to mind (or shift/ alt + mmb drag). Illustrator has shortcuts , . / for fill, gradient fill and no fill (or stroke depending on the context), from these I miss the gradient and regular fill shortcut. For cloning objects, I don't understand the reason for using both Ctrl and Alt, I am aware that control enables snapping and alt disables it, but for me personally, I would prefer to use Alt and toggle snapping manually (using a custom shortcut assignment), the reason for this is explained in 16. For the sake of muscle memory and working with various software packages, it would be great if the selection keys could be assigned manually. Currently, Shift is used to toggle selection, while Ctrl cannot be used. Instead, by using just Alt for cloning, Ctrl could be used to add to selections, meaning that if I hover over multiple nodes, the ones that are already selected won't be deselected. Similarly, instead of toggling selection, Shift could be used to remove from selections. The combination of these two creates a very consistent selection workflow. Though some software switch the Ctrl and Shift behaviour around, so therefore it is best to let the user decide which one does what (and maybe they prefer Ctrl constrained cloning in conjunction with Shift toggle, but that's currently not a decision that can be made. See 3. below. For scaling objects, Adobe uses alt to constrain the transform to both directions and shift + alt to scale from the centre. This should also be an option in Affinity to aid muscle memory. There is no scale tool, as in, there is no shortcut to open a pop-up to get to a bunch of value boxes where scale values can be typed and committed to with enter. As it stands, I seem to need to open the transform panel, hover the mouse to the width and height dimensions and type in the size followed by a percentage sign, which could be reduced with a dedicated scale dialog pop-up. Increase potential for keyboard shortcuts Differentiate between numeric keys and the numpad for additional keyboard shortcut options Modifier keys should be allowed to activate a tool Customise keyboard + mouse behaviour as you can other software like Blender and Krita. This would allow for specifying a combination of keypresses and mousekeys (click/ click drag) to invoke a command. Similar to the default fluent zooming with ctrl+spacebar, users should be able to specify the way they want to zoom, access GUIs and rotate the canvas. For canvas rotation, this could entail setting hotkeys of preference from any 3D package to navigate in 3D (e.g. alt+MMB, shift + MMB) to rotate the canvas fluently (non-incrementally).See: Adding multiple keyboard shortcuts to commands would also be welcome (as in having a plus icon to add a second keystring to invoke a command). For instance, ctrl+] moves an object forward and ctrl+shift+] moves it to the front. However, some keyboards have dedicated PgUp, PgDown, Home, End of a numeric portion to which these functions could be assigned. This allows for retaining 'industry standard' shortcuts, while enabling single button shortcuts as well. This is vital for companies where everyone uses the same keyboard shortcut scheme, so everyone can work on every PC or enable collegues to not freak out from different keyboard shortcuts, while it also creates room for certain customisability. This is what I mean, illustrated in PureRef, where you can click on the + sign to add additional entries (once they are there, you can hit the - sign to remove them). Also, feel free to add other missing ones in this thread, so they can be consolidated here.
  13. Hey folks! I'm learning the ropes with Affinity Publisher, but there's one thing that keeps tripping me up. When I'm editing text, I frequently want to change to moving or editing the text box instead. Hitting 'v' requires me to first move to the mouse and then find somewhere to click off, which doesn't always register, and sometimes draws an unwanted text box. It's a mess. Firstly I'm used to inkscape, where having the tools mapped to F keys is fantastic because you can hit 'F1' to change to the move tool whether you're editing text or not. I've remapped move to F1 so I can press it when editing text, and that's a great start. But in (heaven help us) Microsoft Word, there's the ability to toggle between editing text, and editing the text container, by pressing F2. It'd be fantastic if this functionality was in Affinity - is it somewhere that I'm missing? Thanks!
  14. Hi there- I do a lot of batch processing of photos, where I open up the whole batch of photos and then use the same tools on each one. (I am using the macro and batch processing where possible). My problem is that with tools that are grouped, such as Dodge, Burn, and Sponge, when I go to the next photo and press the keyboard shortcut (O in this case), it goes to the next tool in the group, not the last one that I used that is active. For example, say I'm using the Dodge tool on a photo, then save and close and move onto the next file - when I press O it goes to Burn. If I keep pressing, it will go to Sponge, then again back to Dodge. So it's quicker for me to just grab the mouse and click the icon to get the last used tool. Tools that don't have a grouping work fine, such as Crop. On a related note, it would be awesome if there was a way to keep the last tool I used active when switching between files. I'm fine with the program defaulting to the Hand each time I open the program, but when I'm in the program working between multiple files open at the same time, it would be nice to just keep my last tool used, regardless of which file I was working on, active. Is there an option for something like this that I haven't found? I'm using Windows 10 with Affinity Photo 1.8.5.703. Thanks! Amanda
  15. Hello, I use custom keyboard shortcuts in Affinity Photo 1.8.5.703 on Windows. I must have changed the shortcut for toggle snapping on/off because my working shortcut is now Backspace. I'm now trying to change it to another custom key but can not find it in the list at all. I can see it used to be under Miscellaneous. It's not there now and can't find it anywhere. Can you help? By the way, changing custom keyboard shortcuts can be really tiresome as it is now. It would be really nice to make it work more user friendly..
  16. Hi everyone - still relatively new to Designer so I don't know if this is an existing feature but I've been unable to find anything online so far. I have wrist issues that make extended mouse use difficult, so I use a pen tool and keyboard as much as possible. Been looking for non-mouse keyboard shortcuts for the scroll function (horizontal and vertical), preferably with a way to customize the precision with which you move, so you can move as much or little as needed with each key stroke in each direction. The latter is nice to have right now--just getting the keyboard functionality would be really helpful for my workflow. I've not been able to find any way to customize scrolling in the Preferences menu, and nothing is listed in the shortcuts cheatsheets that I can find online. Am I out of luck on this one? (I use v.1.8 in Windows on Windows 10, in case that makes a difference.)
  17. After the latest update (1.8.4), my keyboard shortcuts have stopped working. This happened after I updated to 1.8.3 as well. Why does updating Affinity Designer cause this? For reference: 1) I'll open the program. Things will appear to be normal: no unusual messages, nothing on (or off) that shouldn't be, etc. 2) keyboard shortcuts will either a) work for a few minutes, or b) not work at all. 3) I close and reopen the program. Repeat 1-2. I love Affinity, but this is driving me NUTS, and costing valuable time! I do not use any custom shortcuts, just what Affinity came with. Is anyone else experiencing this?
  18. Ability to move the selected in 100-pixel increments. V Move selection in 1-pixel increments - arrow key V Move selection in 10-pixel increments - Shift + arrow key + Move selection in 100-pixel increments - Shift + Ctrl + arrow key
  19. Please add the option to set keyboard shortcut for "Remove All Guides" command. Thanks!
  20. I'm wondering if anybody has done a Affinity-Shortcuts-Cheat-Sheet for Publisher? Or is it too soon with possible changes still to come?
  21. I came to the forum today looking for a way to replace a certain keyboard shortcut functionality I'm used to in Adobe products. Specific examples of operation given below are from InDesign; from what I recall Illustrator is pretty similar and Photoshop is a little different. I only found one post here that was even in the ballpark, so... Scenario: you're editing text. Obviously you can't use "V" to select the Move tool; that will just insert a "v". OTOH selecting the Move tool with the cursor is a pain if you just want to do a quick move and get back to editing text right where you were. The Adobe convention I miss: If you have the text tool selected (also applies to many other tools although not always in the exact same way) you can press and hold CTRL (PC) to switch the cursor to the Move tool only as long you continue to hold CTRL. As soon as you let it go, the cursor reverts to the Text tool (or whatever tool you were using). But wait, there's more. Having pressed and held CTRL, you can then add SHIFT or SHIFT+ALT in order to zoom in or out, or if you add SHIFT+ALT and then release CTRL, you get the Hand tool and you can shift the artboard. When you release SHIFT+ALT, you're back to whatever tool you started out with. It's still second nature to me even after years of very infrequent use. Fast and hassle-free. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't see any way to add this kind of temporary tool select modification to the keyboard shortcuts myself. --- Disclaimer: I no longer use graphic design software on a daily or even monthly basis, and for all the years I've used Adobe products, I'd still call myself a noob. My copy of Adobe Creative Suite is v3, so... yeah. I should also point out that I am thrilled at the quality, facility and AFFORDABILITY of Affinity software. A boon for a guy like me who has a few skills that occasionally come in real handy, but rarely generate significant income -- certainly not enough to justify Adobe prices.
  22. Hi, this is a 12min video how I am blasting through the styling of a book in Affinity Publisher. I want to show you how easy it is to even edit mulit-hundred pages long books. I never thought it would be such a "blast" until I did it - as you can see in the video. My suggestion if you come from Indesign or if you start with just plain text. Set up your text styles first. Use the first chapter for it until you are happy - unless you already have a ready-made layout. Assign keyboard shortcuts where necessary. Set up your master pages, too. Don't apply them yet. Use a "running page" master page as your first page, because if you auto-add new pages (Shift-Option-Cmd Click), it will take the current master page as a template. Apply your special master pages for new chapters etc only after your text is formatted properly and flowing beautifully. Otherwise it will mess up your page layout. Apply sections last, too. So if you are afraid of throwing a 300-odd page book at Affinity Publisher, fear no more! If you do your homework (see above) first, the final formatting is a piece of cake. Cheers, Helmar [Note: This is a not a polished video. It's just to share my joy of editing in AFP compared to InDesign. ] Screen_Recording_2020-03-17_at_11_58_43.mov
  23. I'm having trouble locating where the "Switch between Stroke/Fill (or Color 1/Color 2) color selectors (Color and Swatches panels)"/"Toggle Fill Content" in the Keyboard Shortcuts. The original shortcut is assigned to X. I want to assign it to a different key, but a warning triangle shows next to the shortcut, indicating X is already being used for "Toggle Fill Content", but I cannot find where this shortcut initially is located.
  24. The standard OSX keyboard shortcut to switch between windows in an application is ⌘> and ⌘<, respectively. In AD these shortcuts are reserved for text size increase/decrease and there is no way to change that, by the way (these “hooks” are missing in the preference panel, there is just Size > Precise Bigger/Smaller). I would like to use the standard keyboard shortcuts to switch between windows in separated mode, too. And perhaps this could be extended to tabs (in both modes), i. e. in the single window mode the shortcuts would switch between tabs and in separated mode it would switch between tabs in a single window until the last tab is active, and then it switches to the next window (or reverse in the reverse direction). How does that sound?
  25. In the View menu on the Tool Bar "Preview Mode" is shown as Control + W, but nothing happens and my MacBook makes that 'boop' noise that it does when no action can be completed at this time. Am I pushing the wrong keys, or is this a bug?
