  1. Isometric illustration of a music cassette in Affinity Designer 1.8. Support me on dribbble. Thanks!
  2. Hello world, Just created my isometric UX poster. Here is the timelapse. Thank you Here is the YouTube Link:
  3. Since we are starting to lift some lockdown rules here in Portugal starting from today May 4, the small shops are now allowed to reopen, i've made some signs in Affinity Designer and i've printed them in stickers. I've showed them to my clients in Isometric mockup created in Affinity Designer.
  4. Hello, I have a question about the using the grid and shapes. After I draw shapes with the three sides -"front side and top" I want to make adjustments to the grid axes with the shapes remaining locked to the grid so that the perspective of the shape also changes. I can adjust an axis after drawing shapes but the shapes drawn will not move with the axis. By thinking carefully and setting the axis I want beforehand, the need to change any axis would be diminished. But I'm wondering if it is possible to lock objects to the 3 isometric planes after they have been drawn so that they will follow and conform to adjustments of any of the 3 axes afterwords? If so how do we do this?" ps, If it's not possible, might this be in the works? Thanks
  5. Hi, apologies if I'm being stupid here, but I can't seem to figure out why my isometric shapes aren't aligning properly... I thought it was supposed to snap exactly to the grid? Am I missing something?
  6. Hi all, I have an issue with Affinity Designer crashing when I use grids. Been using Designer for about a month and experienced the occasional crash when drawing on to isometric grid. However now I set up my grid go to draw and as soon as I click on the canvas it crashes the computer, every time now. Update 15/02/2020: The issue seems to triggered by hesitation when drawing on the canvas either with mouse or pen when the grid is active. If I stop moving even for a fraction of a second crash. Sometimes the computer freezes sometime it blue screens. Update 16/02/2020: Updated the graphics drivers in the hope that they maybe the cause of the issue. Grid show on opening a new document and works and does not crash until the grids and axis manager is opened. Then it either crashes as soon as any changes are made to grid settings or as so as I try and draw on the canvas having altered grid settings. Attempting to access the grids and axis manager from the studio isometric panel also results in a crash also. Resulting crashes are programme and computer frozen or blue screen. Update 17/02/2020: I think I've solved the issue (figures crossed). I reinstalled Designer (which I had done several times before). This time though I deleted App Data, restarting my computer between each stage. Interesting to note that when I was having these issues the grids preset menu was empty, after the last reinstall it is populated again. Hope this is of some help to someone, sometime. Anyone else have this issue or know the cause? Thanks in advance Anthony
  7. The snapping works fine and corrects itself to 0,0 of the artboard, but the visual grid doesn't transform. Added some pics for clarification
  8. Hello, I wanted to use the isometric grid system, however the snapping is not aligned properly. Is there something that I should do ? Please watch the video to see the behavior. Thank you isometric-grid.mp4
  9. I've got a problem or two with an AD thing I'm working on. This old console telly is one of the elements in a project I've set myself (details below).First, the different planes just won't butt up precisely: there's always a tiny gap, even though the stroke is turned off. I've found this before, and I don't think it's a side-effect of using the isometric projection.Second, how can I get a curved edge between the top panel and the sloping front and get the bitmap fill to follow the curve?
  10. Hey, I tried to create some nature scenery this time. It's not entirely my idea/design because I used something I found online as inspiration but it was a good practice. Turned out those trees are not as easy as they seem. I am glad for any feedback!
  11. Hey, this is the first time I used an actual image as an example and tried to recreate it in isometric style. You can see the outcome in the video thumbnail. I also embedded the example for comparison. It was quite challenging, especially the wooden planks. It's the first time I work with gradients and the wood look had me struggle for quite a while. The video shows my full process, including trial and error on the gradients. I won't consider it "done" yet as there are definitely some things to improve, like the roof where I had no idea what to add as details. I thought about doing the same wooden plank gradients in an interesting pattern but I guess that would be too much. Overall, it looks more like an asset from an old browsergame. It doesn't have this special isometric art style. I think it's because of the muted colors and too much detail. If I would redo it some day, I would try to use brighter colors (exploring more orang'ey for the wood) and have less small details. What do you think? I would be happy for feedback and some tips. Example:
  12. Hello everyone, I need help in making this logo I tried to use the isometric tool but its kind of false and it didn`t worked out. I attached you a pic maybe someone can help me out! :) Thank you in advance! Kind regards Tony
  13. Hey, while I was looking for new practice projects, I found a little windmill which I recreated. For me as a beginner, it was quite hard to deal with the colors, especially in the shade. For the speedart video itself, I prepared a color palette so I don't have to find the colors again.
  14. Hey, I just started out with vector design, especially isometric vector design. This is one of my practice projects. It was quite fun figuring out how to do it. I decided that it makes sense to use the "Symbols" feature in Affinity Designer so I can create each side in 2D.
  15. Here's a recent fun personal iso piece done in Designer. Anyone who grew up in the 70's will be familiar with these 2 crime fighters. Steve McGarrett (Jack Lord) and Danny "Danno" Williams (James MacArthur) from the original Hawaii Five-0 TV series from 1968-1980. "Book'em Danno" was McGarrett's signature catch phrase as well as his trademark hair wave. Shown here is the original 68 Mercury.
  16. Sorry if this has been discussed before. As a "traditional" technical illustrator, i.e. I learned on a drawing board, I am confused about how the isometric tools are supposed to work. I understand the basics but am confused with the results. I am using a 15° x 15° dimetric here. Traditional illustration states that with an ON AXIS ellipse the minor axis should be at a 15° angle (parallel with the drawing plane) with the major axis perpendicular to the minor axis. When I use the isometric tool this does not happen. (see the attachment please). There is some skewing or somewhat perspective type of adjustments being made here that is not making sense to me. Perhaps there is someone out there with a similar background as myself that could please explain to me the expectation of this tool? Note: In the attached example the image on the right started as a 2D image, I then used the Fit to plane command to create the final position.
  17. Hi, I've recently switched over from Adobe Flash to Affinity D. And I'm really digging the whole experience so far . Before doing iso stuff in Fash was a real chore. But with AD's speedy zooms and new isometric tool it's so much easier and faster (plus all the lines are clean!). Here's a few icons I've been working on in case anyone might be interested. Cheers, Rob.
  18. Hello designers, lately I wanted improve my isometric techniques and here's the result. What do you think?
  19. I have been using Affinity Designer for some time and I am loving the new isometric editing options. One weird thing I have noticed is that when you are editing in a plane and try to group some elements, the group itself is not in the isometric plane. This might be intended but to me seems a bit counter intuitive. I would expect when grouping elements in the same plane that the group is still in that plane. What I would have expected (Left). What happened (Right)
  20. Hello! I learn official tutorial on Youtube, but when I draw house in isometric mode I have clearance. How I can fix it ? Thanks
  21. The isometric grids continue to displace when zooming, making very difficult to set precise nodes on it as the grid doesn't align with the magnet points. Fails on all perspective grids (ISO, ISO 2:1, dimetric, oblique, trimetric, triangular, etc.)
  22. I build Tessellations using Affinity Design in normal mode (not Isometric). To do this, I create Shapes, adjust their size + arrange them to build a Pattern: So that the Shapes snap within a Pattern and so that the Pattern when duplicated, snaps within a Tessellation (as demonstrated in the 3 images below) Below I describe my workflow followed by questions looking to make my process more efficient. WORKFLOW Step #1 - Find Shape Dimensions for Pattern To find the dimensions of the Shapes within the Pattern, I: Create the Shapes, then I Adjust the constrained size + Rotate + Move the Shapes so they snap to each other (this provides the necessary Shape dimensions to fit within the Pattern) Step #2 - Find Shape Dimensions for Tessellation as well The dimensions of the Shapes must snap within the Tessellation too - so I: Duplicate the same Pattern (from step #1) as many times necessary so the duplicates fully surround all sides of the Original single Pattern, then I Adjust the constrained size of the Shapes so that all shapes snap to each other within both the Pattern + Tessellation (this provides the Shape dimensions within the Tessellation) Step #3- Erase the erroneous, extra Shapes that don't fit within both the Pattern & Tessellation Once the Shape dimensions are final (they snap within both the Pattern and the Tessellation), I erase the erroneous, duplicate Patterns, keeping only the Pattern with the correct Shape dimensions that snap within both the Pattern and Tessellation. Step #4- Merge the Patterns into images rather than shapes (so document 's size don't hinder its agility) Once the erroneous Patterns are deleted, I: Duplicate the Pattern one time Hide the Original Pattern Merge the Duplicated Pattern Step #5- Create the Tessellation Duplicate the Merged Pattern enough times so it fills the entire canvas, creating a non-heavy tessellation QUESTIONS for: Steps #1 and #2, is there a more efficient workflow to adjusting the constrained shape sizes, rotating and moving them so one can learn if they fit into both the *Pattern* and *Tessellation* at once? (rather than having to go through both steps). Ideally, I'd create the Shapes & fill with their corresponding image as usual - but then Adjust, Rotate and Move the Shapes within the Pattern and Tessellation so they snap to eachother in one step. Also, this more efficient workflow would allow me to skip Step #3 that would have multiple erroneous shape sizes [How] can I use the isometric panel for this? Step #3, is there a different format or method I can use so that the repeated, individual Shapes and Patterns don't reduce the document's agility? Otherwise, when making modifications the document's large size hinders its speed. Also, if I don't merge the patterns into images, when returning to the document for any additional modifications, I can avoid having to re-create the tessellation. Thank you so much for any feedback or guidance.
  23. I'm on the latest version of affinity designer, and have created a lot of isometric illustrstions. However, if I export my artwork to svg (web preset), and open them in sketch app, all the gradients are getting converted to images. I switched back to affinity to inspect these gradients, and I found these are just linear gradients without any special filters. If use the same gradients without isometric plane, the svg out retains its vector gradients, but exporting these with the isometric shapes, it's producing raster images. Is it a bug? Any solution to it. Because i have to do a lot of rework in that case. And it's not just sketch, but my front-end guys also showed me the number of images it has. let me know if you have any solution to it. Thanks
  24. I make a lot of isometric illustrations, so I the isometric pane makes my life so much easier (thanks for that!). But It would be even better if the isometric window could also be shown in the pixel persona so you could switch planes and lock drawing angles to the isometric grid while making the sketch for a vector drawing.
