  1. While you can trim curves with the shapebuilder tool, I would like to have dedicated tools to trim and extend curves. For extending, it would be as simple as clicking a curve and it will extend the closest end of the curve to the next visible curve. This tool should extend curves even though the target curve will not intersect with the curve that is to be extended (meaning, if you were to extend both, they would intersect). Trimming should work in similar fashion, it adds a node along an intersection with another curve and removes the portion closes to where one clicked.
  2. placed image into designer 1.8.5.703 on windows, modified size (shrinked), changed to curves, another object (like by cloud tool) in front layer, both selected and added: change of picture changes!! This behavior also appears with all other combining methods and even when creating compounds. There are also artefacts in the picture placed. example1.afdesign example2.afdesign
  3. Hi, everybody, I'm a new customer! I took advantage of the "homeworking" discount this period! I had already tried Designer but now I can finally work on it. I'm trying to understand how he thinks in the combination of shapes, since I'm not a Master in graphics, I can't understand how to create this simple pencil shape so that it's 1 shape only! I attach a gif, I'm stuck, I can't figure out what to do so that the two vertical lines of the pencil remain (the ones in the middle). I've tried dozens of different ways, with curves without curves, with shapes, booleans...😰 Where am I wrong? Thank you very much. pencil.afdesign
  4. Hello, I'm a total beginner to vector drawing and AD. I'm trying to intersect, I think, 2 shapes. I have a rectangle and a line. The line starts outside the rectangle goes through it and comes out on the other side and beyond. Is there an easy way where I could select the line and the rectangle press a magic button so the line is cut so that only the section of the line strictly within the boundaries of the rectangle survives? I tried the AD intersect button but nothing happened other than both the line and rectangle disappeared!?! I looked for an AD manual but couldn't find one. Many thanks
  5. With CTRL+left click on a layer icon it is possible to create a selection from the contents of this layer. In PS (I know, AP is not PS...) you can use SHIFT or ALT as modifiers for adding to, subtracting from or intersecting with an existing selection. I would like to see this in AP, too. For adding two or more layers to a single selection there is at least a workaround: make a group from the layers you want the selection from and CTRL+left click the group layer icon to get a selection made of the "summed up" content of each of the grouped layers. However I haven't either figured out a way to realize the other operations or how to modify an existing selection with "selection from layer".

  7. See my screen cap - in Illustrator I would select both elements, click on the Intersect function, resulting in two editable shapes. In Affinity Design tho, I get an empty canvas and layer "(Curve)." I just want to divide the ellipse shape into two editable elements. What am I doing wrong?
  8. I've noticed there's a couple of features that prevent me from using Affinity Designer instead of illustrator. When I'm making a logo or illustration for that matter a lot of the time it calls for symmetry. Illustrator has a mirror tool that makes it easy to accomplish, though I think it can still be improved upon. I was hoping that you guys would consider making a 'live symmetry' mode. Similar to your 2 window mode split mode (one outline and one regular). I know I'll probably get people telling me you can accomplish this using a longer method but the fact of the matter is when I do it never lines up perfectly. Especially considering you can't flip on an axis. Now the intersect snapping to me is EXTREMELY important. You guys claim to be the most precise out of all the software which I would almost say is true but you're missing a key feature that I absolutely need. When I have two shapes that overlap I'd like to be able to add a node at the intersections between them. By that I mean I want control on which intersections to add the nodes instead of using the: Minus Front, Intersect, etc. tools. Let me know what you guys think! I really think with those features I could finally see myself using this as my tool of choice. I think you guys should look at the Astute Graphics tools (for illustrator) as well and try to mimic some of that behaviour in Affinity Designer. They have tools for making shapes that make everything way more accurate and precise. I hope you'll consider adding these features. Thanks!
  9. In this short tutorial I demonstrate the Geometry operations (add, subtract, intersect, divide, combine) in Affinity Designer 1.6.0 (destructively and non-destructively) with some samples. Keep on drawin' Norbert
  10. I'm trying to do Geometry operations with symbols but they seem to be greyed out or unavailable. ---Repro steps--- 1) Create a shape using the rectangle tool (M) 2) Go to view/studio/symbols 3) Create a symbol from the rectangle tool 4) Drag this newly created symbol onto the canvas multiple times 5) Select several symbols and note that you are unable to add, subtract, intersect, divide, combine Is there a way to do these things with symbols?
  11. Hi, I'm looking to confirm whether there is a relatively straight forward method for destructively intersecting/divide multiple layers (14 for example) using one shape. Currently I can do this by duplicating the shape to the same number of layers there are and carry out the intersect operation 14 times. This can be particularly time consuming however and I believe there must be an easier way. Please note: I do not want to use masks, clipping or export slices as to the best of my knowledge these are not destructive processes. If there is an option use these functions to do what I am looking to achieve then even better! I utlimately want to split a multi layer vector image into multiple horizontal slices with the only shapes that are exported being within the slice boundaries.
  12. Hello! I'm new around these parts (first post) so I apologize if this question has already been asked and answered. I did some searching, but I couldn't find anything regarding this. My question is: How does one merge or combine a self intersecting path/curve (to make a compound path) in Affinity Designer? I design type and it's desirable—crucial really—to overlap a shape/path within itself for maximum flexibility and ease of manipulation while working. Unfortunately, when it comes time to combine the final artwork I'm left with compound holes where the paths intersect themselves. :( I've attached an example of what I'm referring to. I've tried all of the options that can think of (Geometry, Create Compound, etc.), but none seem to work. I'm assuming that this is just the way paths combine in AD, but I'm desperately hoping that there's another technique that I'm missing. Also, I love AD thus far. Great work! Thanks for your help! :D
  13. It's bug i think... in selection tool.. Please follow the following steps to get an idea. BUG #1 1. select some area with rectangular/Elliptical marquee with "add" option 2. Then select "subtract" or "Intersect" option from toolbar 3. now start selecting from within already selected area, the original selection starts dragging BUG #2 4. If i start selection from outside previously selected area, no marquee appears (that should be visible to see if there is anything working or not) and also some time user can forget what portion is already selected. BUG #3 1. If I first select some area with any marquee tool., Rect, Ellip or freehand 2. Now intersect with freehand marquee tool, if started intersection from within previously selected area that doesn't work as mentioned above. but also if started "intersecting" from outside of previously selected area, that doesn't work at all and deselects everything as well.. BUG #4 1. If intersect option was remain selected in last actions under marquee tools.. now when marquee tools is selected to select some area, .. a very new selection on blank area with marquee tools (where intersect/subtract option is already selected), nothing happens .. that should select something as first level selection. BUG #4 1. similarly as above.. i started selecting a very complex image with magic, lasso (polygonal) tools .. and option was previously selected as "subtract" and i forgot to change "add" option from "subtract" and made a very precise marquee selection and all gone when I finished selecting area. So please 2 features are literally required. 1. if any option under marquee is already selected "new", "add", "subtract", "intersect", then first selection should behave as "new" selection.. 2. if selection is started from within already selected area, then marquee tool should convert into "move" tool. thank you I hope I put some reasonable words.
  14. I don't like very much the shaping tools in Affinity designer. I know that you copy the mechanics from illustrator, In my opinion you should take Corel Draw as reference for the shaping tools. Instead of add, subtract, intersect, divide and combine you should have - trim, weld and intersect each one with leave original and/or target object.
  15. Please add some sort of functionality that allows adding, subtracting, intersecting objects marquees and masks in AD and AP through a right-click in the layers palette.
  16. I love the corner tool - awesome stuff. But as soon as I apply a boolean operation to shapes (add, subtract, intersect, divide, combine) their corners become baked and the ability to edit corners is lost. I imagine that it *might* be possible for any unaffected corners to retain their corner tool setting (i.e. existing corners with a corner tool setting applied, that are not created or changed by the boolean operation being applied). This would be a great help. Currently when ever I want to apply a boolean operation on a shape that has a corner, I first have to zero the corner, remember what it was, then reapply it after the boolean operation is applied.
