  1. Hi Serif! I'm Maurizio, and I'm a graphic and comics student from Rome. I'm having trouble with the iPad version of Designer and Photo. I have a 2nd generation iPad Pro (10.5) with iPadOS 14.5. In the iPad Settings section I saw that Designer and Photos take up a lot of space, especially Designer which takes up more or less 74 GB. Although I have closed some documents and deleted some history, it seems that this indirectly increased the space occupied by the app. Before deleting some documents, the space occupied by Affinity Designer was about 55 GB. How can I reduce it? And how can I see more information about the documents open within the program? I can only see the size of a document when I save it as a file (.afdesign or .afphoto) and only on the Files app, but I'm not sure it's the same size as an "open document" within the program. There is also the cache of the edit history (which will be deleted once the document is saved) to be considered in the space occupied. It’s frustrating not being able to fully and directly view and modify all document information within the app. It would be really interesting to see this feature in a new update! Thanks for your attention, I wish you the best! Keep it up and have a nice day! Maurizio
  2. View/Studio/Info Drag from Sample from Location to position cross-hairs on image Close Info panel The little red cross-hairs remains on the image. Shouldn't the cross-hairs disappear with the panel?
  3. I was working in latest AP beta 1.7.3.481 and I needed to get info about some dark pixels. The Info panel was disabled so I enabled it. The panel appeared but it did not work. The location (X and Y) was changing according to my mouse position but all ARGB/CMYK values were stuck to zeros. I restarted AP and after that the Info panel started to work. * I experienced some other unexpected behaviour too (the brush did not paint at all, the cursor of the brush turned to a single dot, etc.) but so far I can't identify the exact situation when it happened.
  4. Affinity Designer question pertinent to scaled technical drawings (and other purposes): I'm trying to do a mock-up of a garden fence extension I'm building. I've drawn fence posts to scale. I have the pen tool selected and I'm trying to initiate (via initial mouse click) a perpendicular pen line a specific distance from the top of the fence post (which I've depicted with a simple rectangle). A green vertical highlight line shows up over the rectangle's left side when I hover over the left side of the rectangle, and a green dot appears on that line that follows the cursor as I move it up and down vertically on that line. But I don't see a way to determine the relative coordinates of that sliding dot to the upper corner of that object (or preferably any vertex or corner), which makes life harder. Is there some way to easily see (in realtime), the numeric coordinates relative to an object vertex, as the cursor moves along some highlighted vector of an object? Otherwise, I have to try to figure out how to create and calibrate rulers and guides aligned some point of reference germane to any object I want to measure. And even with that, it seems like I have to do math to determine the intra-object coordinates. The app is internally keeping track of positions and calculating coordinates for numerous reasons so seems like it would be fairly trivial to add an a coordinate display to menu bar or an info pane showing precise realtime coordinates of the the aforementioned relative positions. I believe it would be of enormous benefit to alll who do technical drawings with Designer. If there isn't already a feature like this, one way I can envision to do it, that would quick, intuitive and convenient for end-users, from UI perspective: If the horizontal and vertical rulers could be 'scrolled' (like pulling out a builder's measuring tape, sort of) to move each respective ruler's zero-point (as opposed to how it is now, where the rulers' (0, 0) is permanently affixed to the left corner of the canvas). Then, as the cursor moved, the virtual crosshair makers that track the cursor along the rulers could be quickly pre-calibrated to determine cursor's relative position to any object-in-focus (e.g. where ruler center's were aligned), without the user having doing math to figure out object-relative positions. A numeric coordinate display would show the precise values in the selected unit-of-measure. While calibrating the ruler's 0-point, the app would highlight object sides, distances, relative positions, as it does already when moving the cursor around the page. This would make it easy to calibrate the ruler center positions to any object(s) on the page, and be a very flexible way to let users measure anything on the canvas, any way they want to.. There may be other ways to accomplish that already with the product (but not sure how easily). I'm pretty new to using Designer, and isn't obvious to me how to do what I want, even through searching through menus and tabbed panels.
  5. Would be fine if the APhoto OSX QuickLook-addon would also show the associated Exif info for .afphoto files in the finder.
  6. I have always Grayscale mode in my Info panel in PS. It tells me where my colors in the scale of 0 to 100% of lightness are. It's especially important on the edges of a Histogram - in very light and very dark colors. I miss the possibility to see Brushes in icon mode and I miss the possibility to see the Grayscale on Info panel. The Greyscale readout is very important (if not one of essentials) for the exercises for my students too! How can I turn it on, if not, will it be solved any time soon? ...There is no reason not to compare competitive App. with Adobe PS, since it's an industry standard, and there is no chance for competitive App. if producers try just to make it different, as we've seen many times in history, it must be better (!) and AP in many ways is ...
  7. I would love to see floating point numbers in the info palette when working in 32bit. I'm beginning to do a lot of work in the ACES colorspace and work with a ton of HDR sphericals. So, it is important to be able to check values well above one. I also do a lot of work in Nuke and have really grown accustomed to mousing over pixels to see their values.
  8. In photoshop we have the 'info' pane, which tells you the X Y coordinates of your cursor position. We don't have this in affinity, and we also have a less accurate (more sparsely labeled) ruler to make matters worse. Additionally, there is no ruler tool to measure things. This makes it extremely difficult to make precise changes especially for corporate and web design work. It's starting to seem like Affinity is better suited for freeform graphics rather than precision. Please add these features.
  9. Hi all, Since Affinity Photo doesn't show tooltips with dimensions on the Marquee Tool (feature request), we have to depend on the Info panel for dimensions. However, when selecting with Marquee Tool, once the mouse key is released, the width of the current selection disappears! It becomes impossible to know the dimensions of the selection! This is very annoying and I wish developers kept the width and height of the selection shown in the Info panel persistently.
  10. I formerly suggested this to the Affinity Team via FB. They told me to post this feature request on the forum, so all other users can vote/comment on this idea. What is it about? Simple: I suggested that Affinity/Serif should found an IRC-Channel for a simple User2User-Support like one would have via twitter or FB. Buddy2Buddy live. Q&A, Exchange of ideas etc.....(maybe separate) One would be able to link to results by posting pastie urls. (pastebin, imagebin, etc.) and so on. I just think this kind of guidance through other users is much more live and to the heart... And in conversations that you have alongside manipulating your pix you might be able to stroke out "errors in reasoning", that may be immanent because you misunderstood things in first or since you did not know something important for your scheme in first place. And there are so many IRC-Applications that would offer much usability(features) for such an user2user support channel. An official channel would be cool, if someone already opened an unofficial "Affinitiy Photo" channel on IRC let me, and the other users know and comment on this post. Thank you!
  11. Hello, I originally asked for this on the general Photo thread, but this request is more appropriate here. I love the pixel@dpi information that appears on the top left of the tool bar area when selecting a bitmap object, however I noticed that it's lacking native "percentage" size information to help the user know approximately how much the image has been resized since bitmap object import from its the original scale, which would be more useful than just displaying current dpi/pixel size, so alongside it if it said something like 48%, etc. Also it would be really great if there was a checkbox somewhere to "snap" an imported photo back to it's native original size and proportion if the user decides to start over… yes, you can always just re-import the image, but this would save a valuable extra step, a quick return to 100% would save time. You can also use the history palette to accomplish this, however this affects and risks losing any other tasks you've like to have retained since then. Finally, when rasterizing an object from a curve, the current selected object just displays the dpi information but it's missing the current pixel size data on the top left the same way an imported photograph would (i tested by importing from stock palette), this demonstrates Photo can distinguish between an imported image and a generic pixel object. Tested from RC2 version. Thank you!
  12. Russell Brown here — no, not the one from Adobe but I *am* the author of Paths to Artistic imaging in Photoshop (ISBN 978-0-987574-60-2 ) Nevertheless, I for one would be delighted to see a viable, professional alternative to Photoshop and will be happy to make suggestions, should they be helpful. I have installed Affinity Photo today and have only had time for a brief look, but I already have some observations and will add more here, as I find them. I have noticed some others already making similar suggestions, however I felt that it would be better if I start my own thread to keep all my ideas in the one place. The main issue I have so far in that raw (NEF) files opened in Develop Persona are doing some strange things. It would be good if the default processing on opening could be switched off permanently as an option and where is the white balance adjustment for Tini? As it is, this module is a bit clunky and could do with some refinement. Ajustments to the sliders are difficult and can't be adjusted finely, as one can with the arrow keys in Photoshop. ACR is quick and intuitive but so far, Develop Persona is not. In the main program, can you add an option to have finer grid squares in the Curve dialog box? In PS, one can Option-click in the dialog to get the extra grid lines, making fine adjustments easier. Double clicking in the workspace in PS is a quick was to open a file. Can this be incorporated into AP? Do you have plans for a Bridge style image viewer to make selecting files easier and quicker? In the Channels palette, could you add the composite image, so that after working on individual channels, I can easily return to the composite image? At the moment, it seems that I have to click on each of the other channels, including Alpha, before I can see the composite image again. Do we have an Info palette and can we add sample points to an image for precise colour adjustment? This is essential and I can't see anything in the Help section about it. While we're on the subject, some diagrams and info are missing from Help. More to come....! Thanks.
