  1. Having bought Photo and loving it, I realised that most of my important images (thousands) were converted to DNG when imported into Lightroom... Any workarounds for using these with Photo?
  2. Affinity Photo (henceforth "AP") does a stellar job of importing from PSDs, but there are some usability improvements that would help to properly set user's expectations about the nature of the import process. For example, AP appears to rasterize Vector Smart Objects and Embedded Smart Objects into "pixel layers". Fortunately the user can determine the type of an imported layer quite easily by looking at the parenthetical text following its name, but AP's attempt to preserve layer names has the potential to set false expectations at-a-glance, as this image describes: As also noted in the above image, this can have significant usability implications for exporting to PSD, as rasterized layers may keep their default names (as imported by AP), but are in fact be pixel layers within the exported PSD. This confused me the first time I exported to PSD after initially importing from one. There are similar caveats for the layer names of other imported layers. For example: type layers are imported with their names, which suppresses AP's automatic layer naming for type layers based on their text content. It's likely that these layer names originated as auto-generated names in Photoshop to begin with. – Based on these observations, I have a few recommendations in the form of optional PSD import options for layer names: A "PSD Import" option to append " (Rasterized by Affinity Photo)" to the end of layers in a PSD that become pixel layers upon import into Affinity Photo A "PSD Import" option to remove names of type layers if the entire layer name exists as a substring in the type layer's text content, starting from the first character An option to review layers that have been rasterized upon importing a PSD Cheers, Joe
  3. I'm using the free trial version of Affinity Design and this is one bug I noticed. I tried to open a PSD file, some layers of the file have Layer Styles. Upon importing, the layer styles didn't render but the layer is present. I looked into that layer and I saw the "fx" icon and I try to access it because maybe I can try to recreate the layer style. I clicked the 'fx' icon and the app crashed. Not seeing the layer styles from the start is sort of a hassle too because soon I'm gonna ditch my PS and I'm finding a new editing software. What if the PSD was from a client and I'm not aware of the original style provided? That might 'cause some problems. Thank you and I hope you look into this because I'm really trying to find a good software that can import PSD and AI flawlessly First Screenshot: File opened on PS Second: FIle opened on AD (Gradient is gone) Third: FX icon on that layer

    Radial gradient import

Hi, I just tried out my Trial for Designer and ran into a problem with objects having radial gradients when imported from my student version of Illustrator (CS 5.1, .ai file format). See the attached images for the comparison between the mac Preview and the imported .ai file in Designer. Is this a known bug? Unfortunately this issue prevents me from purchasing the full version of Designer. Thanks a lot! Herbert
  5. When I open an .ai file, the PDF Options window opens. There's a checkbox labeled "Favour editable text over fidelity." What does that mean in terms of subsequently working with the document?
  6. When I try to place an svg file ('HKA.svg', attached) in my Affinity Designer project, which I created using the svg() function in R, Designer seems not to display any of the text at all (see 'designer_screenshot.png'). If I open the same file with, say, GIMP, then the text displays fine (see 'GIMP_screenshot.png'). I'm running OSX Yosemite and R is generating .svg files using the cairo graphics library. I'm a bit of a novice with .svg files, but if I open the .svg file with a text editor I can't find any <font> elements, which I thought might have something to do with the problem... along the lines of Designer not being able to find the font definition file. But this was probably rather naive of me. Is this a bug, or am I doing something silly? Thanks a lot in advance, Ben HKA.svg
  7. When I import a PDF document, if the text fields have fonts changing in-between words, immediately after the font change it appears a question mark character.
  8. I've just purchased the app, partly due to the Freehand import capabilities. I've searched through the forums and can find no mention of how the importer deals with text. So far, all the FH files I've tried to import have no text in them at all. Is AD supposed to be able to import text? None of the FH docs I've opened in AD have any text blocks in them at all. So far AD is looking promising as a FH replacement and I'm particularly looking forward to the multi-page features that have been mentioned...
  9. Hello, When I open the svg generated from Gephi or R, you can not see the labels (character string) of my graphs. By opening these files with GIMP or Inkscape, I no problems to view these headings. Thank you in advance and sorry for my bad english. Antoine
  10. He everybody! I imported a pdf file that was created in Adobe InDesign. This pdf was intended for professional printing purposes. Unfortunately InDesign separated most of the objects to small areas, so instead of some objects there are hundreds of areas next to each other. Between adjacent areas there are white lines visible. These white lines represent the zero-pixel-boarders of the objects and are always visible, no matter which zoom setting (10% or 100000%) In Acrobat reader the lines can (visually) be reduce be disabling anti-aliasing in preferences. Is there any option to reduce those lines, at least for new image exports (png / jpg) that are made out of AD? Thanks for your help, H-Nes
  11. Hi, If I export to SVG using the font "Arial Black" I get (part shown here): ...text style="font-family:Arial Black;... which looks fine. However if I open the SVG file again I get an error that the font does not exist.
  12. Hi, I am posting here because I am facing an issue which I do not understand at all... I have a bunch of files created with Inkscape, which use Trebuchet MS font. And when I try to import one of them (or directly open) in Affinity Designer, it fails to load the font "TrebuchetMS" (without the space), and replaces all font with a default one, which I definitely do not want... I had the same issue with Illustrator a while ago, and I really don't understand. If I open the SVG file in a text editor, the Trebuchet MS font is well defined and written, and I cannot find the "TrebuchetMS" chain anywhere... I have attached a very basic example of file which opens properly in Inkscape, and not in AD... Does anyone have an idea of what's happening and any solution to propose?? Thanks a lot! 13. This may be a problem you can't solve - but I have thousands of Xara files that I will have to convert to some other format to import into Affinity, or I'll have to keep Xara for a while. I have been using that software since 1995 and would love to simply be able to import their files into Affinity. I have only continued to use Xara because until now, there has been no MAC program that could compare to the speed and versatility of that software. So if we could get the ability to import the XAR formatted file, or if you included an algorithm to convert it to PSD or whatever on import - that would be awesome and I (and many others) could get rid of Parallels off of our MAC's, dump Windows and regain valuable drive space. I can't begin to tell you how cool that would be as I do not have time to take almost 20 years worth of files and convert them all to another format for import
  14. Hi I want to import an emf file into Affinity for editing. I have tried dragging the file into the main screen on Affinity, and also using the File>Place function, but the file is not recognised. Is there something I can do? Thanks!
  15. Hi there, here i am again with another question... I´m trying to import a work i´ve done with Corel Draw into the AD. The only way i though i could do it was by creating a Pdf or even a Postscript file. The fact is that i can import them into my art board, but i´m not able to edit it. Is the a way i can access individually each object within the file?
  16. Importing before.pdf results in incorrect fill color (black instead of light gray) of the rectangles in the bottom-right of the figure, and an incorrect (enlarged) image size, as can be seen in after.pdf.
  17. When I open this file in Affinity Designer the visibility, position, and content of layers and text is not correct. I have also attached a screenshot of what I see when I open the file. When I open it in Adobe Photoshop everything is as it should be. Fonts in eps files

Hi, I am working a lot with eps files. I noticed that if I import an eps file, the fonts are all converted into vectors. Would it be possible to fix this, that entire text parts can still be used as text and not as single vectors? This problems only seems to appear in in the eps files, because in the pdf or ai files the text is read in as text. Thank you very much already and keep up your great work :)
  19. Vector paths (unclosed) have fills applied when imported.
  20. The website says: Full support for AI, PSD, PDF and SVG files gives you all the flexibility you need and means whether you switch to Affinity Designer for all your work, or just elements of what you do, it's completely painless. but for the love of god, I cannot open a PDF file in the Affinity Designer. Am I doing something wrong? Agatha
