  1. Has anyone tried to use an eps vector file from shutterstock? The file size is ca. 8MB, so obviously it contains a lot of data. But when I open it with Affinity Designer, I only see a bitmap image of a very low resolution (something like 60 dpi). Shutterstock claims the file is a valid eps and opens correctly with Adobe or Corel. Looks like AD has some kind of problem with these files. Is this a known problem, or should we file a bug report somewhere?
  2. Hi, I could not find if this was covered yet here on the forums. I just exported a color palette in Designer (to iCloud drive) with many global colors that had custom names assigned (RAL palette). When I imported the palette as document palette back into another project the custom names on the global colors were all gone and reverted back to their default names. The standard colors and gradients all kept their names, just the global color names were gone. Please advise. Cheers, Marc
  3. On iPad, in Affinity Photo (AP), I try to import from Photos. That works fine, but the browsing is difficult due to two issues: 1) When opening the import dialog, I see my photos folders. However, they appear unordered, see the enclosed image which is part of the dialog within AP. The folders go like 2007-01-07 2015-07-26, 2013-08-17, 2014-06-28, 2006-11-11-b, etc. I have hundreds of those. Is there a way of sorting them correctly after name? (And hence after date). 2) When selecting a folder, I see the images, but only as small icons about 3x3 cm. Any attempt to view the actual image, results in it being imported. Is there a way to preview the images without opening/importing them? For example like the standard photo browser in the iPad Photos app? Regards, Hans
  4. Hi, I'm trying to find out how to place a multiple-page PDF into document, but I can't find an option where I can change which pages to place. It places only the first page and I want to place first and second (or all). Any thoughts? Thanks
  5. Will Affinity Publisher provide an open file option for PagePlus files?
  6. Hello everyone ! Happy to share this with you today; Yes i'm back because power outage was fixed in my suburb but only for few hours then we may go back into ... no power at all for the time or number of days they decide . Not a problem at all as opportunity is given and i take it on both hands. Now let's move ! --------------------------------------------------------------------------- My Review and propositions for Affinity Designer 1.7.0.2 (also applicable to Affinity Photo and Publisher too) Well the new Affinity Designer load faster than what I've seen up to now and i'm really really happy with it and can just imagine how great would be the final version. Brushes are more fluid and easy to use and they flow in more natural way, it's simply a pleasure to make use of it. BUT !, because there is always a but in stages like this ! These are the few problems or difficulties i had with (that is existing since old versions): Brushes Loading was really fast (just drag and drop and click Ok) .afassets, .afpalette, and .afstyles still can't be added or loaded to the software by selecting them from the file browser using the drag and drop method. From the import window opening i can only select one item after another, would be very useful if select all is activated allowing to select everything compatible within the same folder then just click Ok/Add for the software start loading them. My Proposition to the above problem this is a proposition i have for the above problem i encountered and still encounter: Well, to me a good Fix would bean Assistant working similar to a font manager but a bit differently. It would ask the user where is the folder with desired stuffs to load then that kind of resource manager would scan that folder looking for everything compatible (palettes, brushes, styles, macros, etc.) then display it in a list (like when we try to add PS stuffs on Affinity) they would be classified by categories with level of usability and trust (orange, green and red etc.), from that place we would make our choice to activate and/or approve whatever we want (on a column with check boxes ON/OFF) and the software would just load our choice then after it is done we would receive a DONE message. That solution would make it even simple and take less minutes than leaving it to us to manually load them one by one and could be very helpful even for those using the iPad version and who have their stuffs somewhere on the iCloud. Please think about this, it may save lives. This is what I like from the new (affinity Photo) beta version : The icon used on the top bar to indicate the different personas are far away better than what Affinity had, it's more refined and i personally feel better looking at it, now left the tools icons, they need a refresh like you did with the personas icons: Please implement it on the next Affinity Designer, they are simple and beautiful. This is what i believe Serif should start thinking about or add in this beta cycle: 1- A rotate on plane functionality that will help us to rotate subjects such as shapes, beveled/extruded texts, curves etc... thus moving one step close to a real 3D capability 2- Make Designer more capable of making UI/UX with new functions or simply revised functions and why not bringing the Prototyping Persona where all prototyping for Ui/UX guys to feel at home and create the best they can or want. 3- The Fill Tool used to create gradient must now become curvable, allowing the user that create a gradient to also bend it or curve it in one or another direction or even or draw circles or complex lines with it, to me, it will make it possible to create the "up to now" impossible multicolored curved gradient that ever existed (maybe it does exist somewhere else and just don't know about... ) Well, that's everything i wanted to share with you and even bring up to light, may you have advice or corrections, please feel free, it will help us all grow ! Blessings !
  7. Hi, in the Help it is mentioned, that for .ai as well as .pdf “Multi-page files can be imported, with each page being placed on its own artboard” – probably Copy&paste from Affinity Designer? Can’t find any way to import the second page of a pdf.
  8. Sorry if this has been mentioned before but can't find it if it has. Is there or can there be the ability to import video files into Affinity in order to separate the frames for individual working. Photoshop has had this function and is very handy.
  9. I have to import two pdf files every week for a bulletin. - I should mention that I also posted this in Windows bugs as I use both OS and it happens in both. When I do the file in Publisher has been changed - I am guessing because the pdf has a different font than my system. I am able to do this in QuarkXPress, Corel Dray and Page Plus with out the distortion so I am not sure what I need to do in Publisher or if it will be something fixed in upcoming versions but wanted to report it. I have to convert the pdf to an image as a workaround but it does not print as nicely as the pdf. Thanks
  10. I am creating digital negatives for use in cyanotype, salt print etc. printing. Part of the process involves applying a calibration curve. There are many books and tutorials on the subject but all refer to Photoshop for creating these curves and many offer file downloads (Photoshop .acv files) of curves to import into Photoshop. Is there any way of importing and applying these files in Affinity Photo?
  11. There's a mountain of people out there that would love to be able to convert Microsoft Publisher files to InDesign. Why don't you get the jump on them and a massive audience by making Affinity Publisher able to open or convert those .pub files on Mac. I think the only way to do it at the moment is to save the .pub files as PDFs them open them. Doing it this way nearly all of the subtle editing features are lost but at least you can copy and paste the basic elements. It would be great just to be able to open them in Publisher too.
  12. Hello, In .afpub 1.7.0.145 for macOS Mojave, I've noticed that text formatting/font changes upon PDF import placement. It doesn't matter whether I set the document to place as an embedded image or linked. The PDF appears fine when opened on same system in other viewers (Apple Preview, Adobe Acrobat, & Pages). I suspected it could just be AfPub's preview of the placed PDF however it retains the wrong formatting upon exporting as PDF also. The solution to fix issues like this is to have the PDF Options dialog popup when a user selects File Menu - Place.
  13. I'm totally new to Affinity and super excited to see what I downloaded! It really looks awesome. I tried to search for existing issues and can't find any, hope I'm not duplicating or missing something obvious. Please be kind while I learn... Bug description and expected results: When I attempt to open an SVG file created in Inkscape (without converting text to curves / paths) the images are all imported correctly, however all the text is missing. I attempted to look at the help file and it shows a table of formats that can be imported and svg is displayed so I'm expecting that the import should: - Either be successful with all my images and text boxes correctly imported and displayed. - Or an appropriate error message is displayed telling me there was issues with the import (if any) and hopefully how to fix it. - Help available to explain if there are any constraints / prerequisites / workflow that I must follow for a successful import. Actual results: - Only images are imported. No text. - No error message is displayed. - Help gives no guidelines how to resolve the issue. Attached are 3 files as supporting documents - 1. Expected result with a png version of the flyer as it should look like. 2. Actual result with a screendump of what I'm seeing. 3. The svg file I'm trying to upload. I'm using a 64 bit Windows 10 machine. herbalife-v1.svg
  14. I am trying to make the switch from the laptop to my iPad Pro. All of my files are in Box.com. Is there a way to import a file or image from Box.com to affinity? thanks!
  15. Hi, I have read and understand the various threads on why directly importing .ppp files won't happen, and I have tried the workaround of exporting from PP as PDF and importing to AP. This seems to work reasonably to get the documents into AP, but it loses all the information I would want to continue working on that document in AP, in particular styles and master pages. I have spent a lot of time setting these up for PP. Is there any way I can save redoing all this in AP? Apologies if it has already been answered in a previous post, but I couldn't find it on searching. Cheers, Ian
  16. I hope this something that I am doing wrong. When importing a raw file which has keywords assigned to it in a sidecar file, Affinity photo doesn't seem to use the keywords. Therefore when I export to a tiff file there are no keywords included in the tiff file. I am opening the raw file using 'open with' in Windows explorer. What am I doing wrong? Tony
  17. I've searched for specific answers but have come up empty handed on how to get styles and application palettes from Designer on the desktop imported to Designer on the iPad. When I attempt to import styles from a cloud stored file, the respective .AFSTLYES file is grayed out. I don't see a way to import application palettes, (or create one from an image or document, which would work also). I know you can access a document palette, but you can't save that to the system palettes so that doesn't work if you want to use that palette on another document. Is there a reason why this isn't possible? Is there some limitation from being on an iPad that keeps these features from being on the roadmap?
  18. Hello, Since the application Photos, I imported the photo but it is reversed (see picture 1 and 2). There is a bug problem. Thank you. Best regards.
  19. We are very interested in transitioning from Illustrator to Affinity Designer. We are product designers (not illustrators) and use Illustrator in combination with our CAD package; it's an essential workflow for us. Anyway, part of this workflow involves importing and exporting dxf files. I've seen in this forum the request for dxf support. However, as I've not yet bought Designer, I'm not sure if this feature has been added. Has it? If yes, great! If not, please can someone outline if this feature will be added soon and when? Thanks in advance.
  20. Sir, I have imported a 44 pages PDF X/3 document in 1.7.133. This document has already been successfully generated by Foxit Phantom Pro. It was a combination of Scribus 1.5.4 PDFX/3 files and .docx imports. The whole document was printed in Germany and went without a remark through the pre-print analysis of the printing company. Prints are perfect. The page shown in attachment was a .docx file imported in Foxit. 1) Publisher Import: Issue 1: Compared to an Acrobat Reader view, I notice that the text is not properly "Left justifed" anymore. See the jpg in attachment, name ending with "...start.jpg", there is a blank on the left of "333" Acrobat and prints show all end lines perfectly justified. Issue 2: the text frame was centered in the original document. Affinity shows a wider blue frame correct on the left side, but on the right side there is like a blank character that was added at the end of each line 2) I have just changed the "line space" of 9pt to "Exactly" and 150%, i.e.13.5 pt Underlined texts are not managed properly. The text "www.tramania.com" of the next paragraph "loses" its underline. This underline line stays at its original position and pollutes the previous paragraph that was modified. I did not find a way to delete this line Note: Everything is default. No special styles, etc First file loaded with a fresh 1.7.133 install Regards, Philippe
  21. Hi, Firstly I am very happy with publisher. But there is one problem: In word I have some text in caps, but when I copy paste it in publisher all text that was in caps is formated like normal. I assume that it will come with .docx import. But it will be nice to have it with copy paste. Thanks (sorry for bad english, still learning)
  22. It looks the Publisher is mainly oriented towards graphic designers. I did not see any places to import XML tagged text. To replace the mostly used publisher apps I see a need to import dynamic text to create catalogs and brochures. No idea if this is planned as a future extension or option, or if the focus is as mentioned before mainly for designers. Would be interesting to know. Göpf
  23. Would it be useful if you could import and export text styles? Single or multiple text styles together.
  24. It seems that Spot Colours in eps files are not supported... If I import/place an eps file with spot colours defined, these spot colours aren't imported into the swatches panel. If I select "Create Palette From Document > As Document Palette" I get a whole list of colours, none of them actually appear on the page. If you want to delete this palette, this doesn't work: Select Delete Palette from the Swatches Drop down menu, a pane appears asking you to confirm that you want to delete the palette, click "Yes" and thePalete is still there. The eps file seems to have been converted to a CMYK object because if you export the page as a pdf with "Honour Spot Colours" ticked it outputs the spot colours as cmyk. So you can't print separations from the pdf file.
