  1. When I open an .ai file, the PDF Options window opens. There's a checkbox labeled "Favour editable text over fidelity." What does that mean in terms of subsequently working with the document?

    Radial gradient import

Hi, I just tried out my Trial for Designer and ran into a problem with objects having radial gradients when imported from my student version of Illustrator (CS 5.1, .ai file format). See the attached images for the comparison between the mac Preview and the imported .ai file in Designer. Is this a known bug? Unfortunately this issue prevents me from purchasing the full version of Designer. Thanks a lot! Herbert
  3. When I try to place an svg file ('HKA.svg', attached) in my Affinity Designer project, which I created using the svg() function in R, Designer seems not to display any of the text at all (see 'designer_screenshot.png'). If I open the same file with, say, GIMP, then the text displays fine (see 'GIMP_screenshot.png'). I'm running OSX Yosemite and R is generating .svg files using the cairo graphics library. I'm a bit of a novice with .svg files, but if I open the .svg file with a text editor I can't find any <font> elements, which I thought might have something to do with the problem... along the lines of Designer not being able to find the font definition file. But this was probably rather naive of me. Is this a bug, or am I doing something silly? Thanks a lot in advance, Ben HKA.svg
  4. When I import a PDF document, if the text fields have fonts changing in-between words, immediately after the font change it appears a question mark character.
  5. When I open a PDF document, the dialog box asks me if I want load a given page, instead all the document. If I set there a page number different than page 1, the import will always get page 1 only.
  6. Hello, When I open the svg generated from Gephi or R, you can not see the labels (character string) of my graphs. By opening these files with GIMP or Inkscape, I no problems to view these headings. Thank you in advance and sorry for my bad english. Antoine
  7. He everybody! I imported a pdf file that was created in Adobe InDesign. This pdf was intended for professional printing purposes. Unfortunately InDesign separated most of the objects to small areas, so instead of some objects there are hundreds of areas next to each other. Between adjacent areas there are white lines visible. These white lines represent the zero-pixel-boarders of the objects and are always visible, no matter which zoom setting (10% or 100000%) In Acrobat reader the lines can (visually) be reduce be disabling anti-aliasing in preferences. Is there any option to reduce those lines, at least for new image exports (png / jpg) that are made out of AD? Thanks for your help, H-Nes
  8. Hi, If I export to SVG using the font "Arial Black" I get (part shown here): ...text style="font-family:Arial Black;... which looks fine. However if I open the SVG file again I get an error that the font does not exist.
  9. I cant work out how to import a photo into affinity photo. ?? Also, I use adobe bridge and camera raw as I am photojournalist. How can one batch process and Copyright etc etc. WE NEED A PROPER MANUAL!!!!!!
  10. What is the best way to import CDR files? I do have Adobe Illustrator (or a friend/colleague has it).
  11. Hi, I am posting here because I am facing an issue which I do not understand at all... I have a bunch of files created with Inkscape, which use Trebuchet MS font. And when I try to import one of them (or directly open) in Affinity Designer, it fails to load the font "TrebuchetMS" (without the space), and replaces all font with a default one, which I definitely do not want... I had the same issue with Illustrator a while ago, and I really don't understand. If I open the SVG file in a text editor, the Trebuchet MS font is well defined and written, and I cannot find the "TrebuchetMS" chain anywhere... I have attached a very basic example of file which opens properly in Inkscape, and not in AD... Does anyone have an idea of what's happening and any solution to propose?? Thanks a lot! 12. Hi I want to import an emf file into Affinity for editing. I have tried dragging the file into the main screen on Affinity, and also using the File>Place function, but the file is not recognised. Is there something I can do? Thanks!
  13. Hi there, here i am again with another question... I´m trying to import a work i´ve done with Corel Draw into the AD. The only way i though i could do it was by creating a Pdf or even a Postscript file. The fact is that i can import them into my art board, but i´m not able to edit it. Is the a way i can access individually each object within the file?
  14. Hello, I’ve searched through existing posts (see short list below) but it’s not clearly stated if those requests have been added to the development list or out of consideration. (They don’t appear to be reflected in the roadmap unless I’m missing a reference.) Is it possible to get clarification as to whether Affinity has plans to support: Ability to import Photoshop and Illustrator 'Preset' files / styles: Most Important:Gradients: .grd file extension Styles: .asl file extension Patterns: .pat file extensionIncluding preset pattern fills (related post by someone else is referenced below) Moderately important but could live without:Color Swatches: .aco file extension Custom Shapes: .csh file extension I have a huge library of the above (gradients, styles, and patterns in particular) that I'd rather not lose (or have to recreate) by switching to Affinity Designer. Somewhat-related forum posts: Import .ase and .aco files: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/1483-import-palette…-importing-ase-and-aco-files/ Import Photoshop and vector brushes: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/532-import-photoshop-and-vector-brushes/ Vector pattern fills, custom vector brushes, dotted lines: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/1913-vector-pattern-fills-custom-vector-brushes-dotted-lines/ (This one in particular, it’s stated that vector pattern fills are not yet in the roadmap; does that mean that it’s out of consideration, or just that it’s not coming in the near future?) Thank you for any clarification you can provide. Regards, --S
  15. Hi I am trying to import the color palette into AD from ase file which isa standard for illustrator. Is there a way I can do this. Right now the AD doesn't recognize this file type. Thanks Pranav
  16. When I open this file in Affinity Designer the visibility, position, and content of layers and text is not correct. I have also attached a screenshot of what I see when I open the file. When I open it in Adobe Photoshop everything is as it should be. 17. Importing before.pdf results in incorrect fill color (black instead of light gray) of the rectangles in the bottom-right of the figure, and an incorrect (enlarged) image size, as can be seen in after.pdf.

    Fonts in eps files

Hi, I am working a lot with eps files. I noticed that if I import an eps file, the fonts are all converted into vectors. Would it be possible to fix this, that entire text parts can still be used as text and not as single vectors? This problems only seems to appear in in the eps files, because in the pdf or ai files the text is read in as text. Thank you very much already and keep up your great work :)
  19. I've just purchased the app, partly due to the Freehand import capabilities. I've searched through the forums and can find no mention of how the importer deals with text. So far, all the FH files I've tried to import have no text in them at all. Is AD supposed to be able to import text? None of the FH docs I've opened in AD have any text blocks in them at all. So far AD is looking promising as a FH replacement and I'm particularly looking forward to the multi-page features that have been mentioned...
  20. Is there a way to import all the art boards in an .AI file instead of just the first one? Or at least be able to choose which art board to import?
  21. When I import swatches using the “Import Palette…” item, I should be able to select palettes saved from Photoshop (ACO – Adobe Photoshop Color Swatch File) or Illustrator (ASE – Adobe Swatch Exchange File). Are there foreign palette formats that AD can import? Maybe that information should be in the Open dialog box… or somewhere. (The Help Center doesn’t seem to do anything. I can search for a topic like “palette,” but can’t expand the results, so maybe the AD entries are just stubs?)
  22. This may be a problem you can't solve - but I have thousands of Xara files that I will have to convert to some other format to import into Affinity, or I'll have to keep Xara for a while. I have been using that software since 1995 and would love to simply be able to import their files into Affinity. I have only continued to use Xara because until now, there has been no MAC program that could compare to the speed and versatility of that software. So if we could get the ability to import the XAR formatted file, or if you included an algorithm to convert it to PSD or whatever on import - that would be awesome and I (and many others) could get rid of Parallels off of our MAC's, dump Windows and regain valuable drive space. I can't begin to tell you how cool that would be as I do not have time to take almost 20 years worth of files and convert them all to another format for import
  23. I'm using the free trial version of Affinity Design and this is one bug I noticed. I tried to open a PSD file, some layers of the file have Layer Styles. Upon importing, the layer styles didn't render but the layer is present. I looked into that layer and I saw the "fx" icon and I try to access it because maybe I can try to recreate the layer style. I clicked the 'fx' icon and the app crashed. Not seeing the layer styles from the start is sort of a hassle too because soon I'm gonna ditch my PS and I'm finding a new editing software. What if the PSD was from a client and I'm not aware of the original style provided? That might 'cause some problems. Thank you and I hope you look into this because I'm really trying to find a good software that can import PSD and AI flawlessly First Screenshot: File opened on PS Second: FIle opened on AD (Gradient is gone) Third: FX icon on that layer
  24. Vector paths (unclosed) have fills applied when imported.
  25. Please add the ability to import CDR files. Lately, clients have started mentioning that they would like to move away from CorelDraw. You might be surprised how many Mac users are using CorelDraw via Bootcamp or Parallels. Now that Serif (Affinity) is supporting the Mac they want to migrate away from CorelDraw. However, they feel trapped with CorelDraw because: They do not want to lose their CDR files created over many years. In addition, they want to avoid exporting hundreds of files out of CorelDraw one at a time so the files could be used elsewhere. Here is an opportunity for Affinity to make friends in the Mac community. Make Affinity products able to perfectly import Adobe and Corel files. Do this and you will have an automatic customer base for a long time.
