  1. Placed an image in a picture frame, and set the scaling to none, so I can resize to my desired scale. If I try to stretch or resice the frame, the image inside reverts to 100% scale, instead of maintain size or stretch on the same proportion.
  2. I would like to have multiple images in my scientific document with text on top ('title') and some text below ('caption'). I want it to be easy to make similar images + title + captions all over the document. What is the correct way to achive this in Publisher? What I have done now is: Use the 'Square tool' to create an area (in this case red) in which the title + image + caption must fall Create a text block for the title Create an image block for the image Create a text block for the caption Make sure the text and image blocks are children of the red square Use the above red square as a dummy for the rest of my document. Is this the correct way of doing what I want?
  3. Hi, First of all I am really looking forward to using the finished publisher. I was an avid user of PagePlus and must have had more than eight versions over the years. One feature that I would find really handy would be the option to insert/place an image into a document, then select a colour to appear transparent. For example, if you insert a pic of a dog with a solid white background, you could click a 'Select transparent colour' dropper and click on the white background of the pic, leaving a dog image for the text to have a Tight Wrap around my image. Is this going to be an available option or manipulate the pic by using the Photo Persona? (I have Affinity Photo). Thanks Andy
  4. My suggestion to (easier) embed or link resources: In Addition to the resource manager: Add a checkbox "embedded" to the context strip. if the checkbox is checked - the resource is embedded, otherwise the resource is linked. Optionally add a checkable menuitem to the contextmenu of the resource:
  5. I've waited so long for Affinity Publisher to arrive and was delighted to receive an email saying that the beta was now available to download. I played with it most of yesterday afternoon with some text from my books and was just a bit disappointed that the program - at present - is not more geared towards the self-publishing industry for authors; for example, no ability to save epub or mobi files. The self-publishing industry is HUGE and it wouldn't take much to tweak your program to suit it. One big issue for me is that the text and character styles aren't as intuitive as they could be. Character and paragraph tabs similar to those in Indesign would be much simpler for text-based authors, such as myself. Having said that, I also illustrate my books and design those illustrations in AD - Drawplus before that. I added a png image to my text, but was disappointed that the text didn't fit very nicely around the image - despite the left, top, right and bottom adjustment feature. I managed to get this to look a little neater when I created a shape as a background for the image (last one on the page). However, when the text is justified, as it usually is in books, it looks awful. I've attached an AP file showing 4 different ways I tried to adapt the text - none of which are 'pretty'. Yesterday, I clicked on the node tool and a thick blue outline with nodes appeared around the image - I was hoping that I could use these nodes to tweak where the text wrapped around the image, but the nodes weren't responsive. This is not a huge issue for me as more often than not I don't wrap text around my images, but it would be a nice feature. Unfortunately, today, I'm unable to get these nodes to show up again so I can't attach an image of what happened. Please make this simpler Loving the interface and program other than the above. 6. I don't know whether this is expected behaviour but I was just wondering what other people thought about it. In Designer, you can have this work-flow: 1. Select Place Image tool; 2. Choose image and OK dialog; 3. Click or drag where you want the image to be; ...with the Image Layer that's just been created selected... 4. Select Place Image tool; 5. Choose image and OK dialog; 6. Click or drag where you want the image to be; 7. Image will be put in a separate layer as expected. In Publisher this behaviour is replicated, however, using a slightly different work-flow gives a different result: 1. Select Picture Frame tool; 2. Choose image and OK dialog; 3. Click or drag where you want the image to be; ...with the Picture Frame Layer that's just been created selected... 4. Select the Place Image tool; 5. Choose image and OK dialog; 6. The image in the Picture Frame is now replaced. NOTE: As an additional issue, even if you don't have the Picture Frame selected, the image in the last-created Picture Frame will flash very briefly to show the newly selected image before reverting back to the previous image and allowing you to click/drag the position of the new image. Personally I think this could be 'wrong' behaviour. When I use the Place Image tool I would expect to be able to create a new image layer at all times. The Replace Image button on the context bar is there if I want to replace the image in the currently selected Picture Frame - even if one doesn't yet exist - and the Place Image tool should work the same way - creating a new image layer - no matter what is currently selected in both Designer and Publisher (except in the instance below). I have also noticed that, if you have multiple Picture Frames, with no selected Picture Frame, when you use the Place Image tool you can mouse over the Picture Frames and see a preview of the image in each frame you mouse over. This seems like very nice behaviour which I would like to keep but I don't really like the idea of the image being immediately replaced when a Picture Frame is already selected. What do other people think?
  7. I have unsuccessfully searched for the easy way to match the color, tone and saturation of two images or selections to, for example, replacing a face. That is to say that PS does from the menu: image: match image. What do you think of the idea. Is there something similar in Affinity? I'm sorry I do not speak English and I use the Google translator. Regards
  8. I think games development needs TGA support... Working for a major game developer (EA) as a director, although it is admittedly an archaic format, TGA is an essential format for day to day use. This is a format that although we do not necessarily manually write too, it is the way we store the image in its raw format and I suspect many other studios do too. Higher depth formats are becoming more prevalent, but for now TGA is an essential format that without, we could not recommend the software rollout.
  9. Sorry, but please correct this embarrassing error here: “Aber er wollte etwas erschaffen, dass die Messlatte für kreative Designsoftware deutlich höher legen würde.” □ “16 Bit” would be better than “16 Bits” there and please stop using wrong/inconsistent dashes on the same website like here and please no wrong quotation marks like there.
  10. So, whenever I try to add a transparent image to my canvas on affinity designer the background on the image turns from transparent to black? How do I make it transparent? am I doing something wrong?
  11. I have a very large image 5000px x 3500px and I need to make it 870px x 320px for a website banner. I know I have to crop the image first because the ratios are not the same, but I have tried many ways, even tried to edit the SVG code, and it's just impossible. The image doesn't look sharp enough. Is this impossible to do? am I wasting my time? or is someone actually able to resize this much a very large image and keep at least moderate quality? Thanks!
  12. I recently learned about the new upcoming image format called the High Efficiency Image File Format (or HEIF), which was mentioned in the Windows Blog (https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2018/03/16/announcing-windows-10-insider-preview-build-17123-for-fast/#OALyDY4AdhDIahYX.97). After looking into HEIF, I was wondering if Affinity was working on support for HEIF for Affinity Designer & Affinity Photo (or if support is already there). The initial impressions of HEIF look promising and might be an image format that can improve workflows. If you need details on HEIF, I've posted links below. 14. Hello, I am new here so I suppose the best thing to do is introduce myself and let you all know what my topic is about. To begin, I am a professional landscape and nature photographer. I create HDR composites that I sell through stock agencies and also in local art galleries in Sedona and Jerome AZ. For many years I used Photoshop CS5, and it did what I needed done as far as image manipulation and editing. But a short time ago my old MacBook running Lion OSX failed. The GPU in the logic board burned out and I got the white screen of death. I wanted to get it fixed but the parts were no longer available, which forced me to buy a newer Mac running High Sierra 10.13.3. PS CS5 does not work well on High Sierra. It would not update and it often crashed with errors. Adobe technicians told me that CS5 had never been tested on High Sierra and probably would not work. They advised me to get creative cloud, but I told them I was not going to rent a program. I only buy programs with perpetual license. I found Affinity Photo while searching for CS5 alternatives. I have been testing Affinity for the last couple of days and so far I am impressed. It has many of CS5's capabilities, but the controls will take me some time to get used to. I will probably end up buying the program when the trial period is over. But there is one thing that does need improvement with Affinity. It need support for the JPEG2000 format. I have several hundred images stored in that format and Affinity cannot open them. I use the JPF format to archive my master copies after all editing is finished. I put them in a folder with the original camera raw copy. The reason I used this format is because it supports LAB 16 bit color, just like a TIF, but has lossless compression and has half the size of a TIF. This format is also being used in some video applications. Since Photoshop supports JPEG2000 I think Affinity should consider supporting it as well if your company wants to compete with Adobe on their level. I can use another program called ColorSync to convert my old JPF files back to TIF but that might degrade their quality. So if you are considering adding JPF support to Affinity please let me know. And if you're interested in seeing some of the work I do here is a link to one of my portfolios. The images on this site are being marketed through Getty Images. My HDR lightning composites are my biggest sellers. http://www.roomtheagency.com/profile/555/ Thanks for listening.
  15. I learn best by personally trying out what I see in tutorials. Where can I download the image used in the tutorial, (see link below). Thanks. https://vimeo.com/channels/affinitydesigner
  16. Hello all. Does anyone know how to get a shape fill with an image? Once I could do it but I do not remember how ... Regards
  17. Hello, it could be nice to be able to change more options for image export, in export persona. For example I have the slices selected I could love to be able to change dpi on the spot (for example I design something for print and I want to export a lower resolution preview), being able to change resolution with some image preview could be nice as well, I mean I could love to see the compression loss on the spot. Just my 2 cents, thanks!
  18. Howdy. I'm working on graphics for an Antique Dollhouse that need to be printed full size. I'm using an outside printing service for my color graphics and have exported the files in PDF and JPEG format, for ease of transportation. Unfortunately, in doing so, the actual size of the images reduces, the length by about 1/8 inche and the width by about 1/16 inch. Since the printing service does not have Affinity Design, I have to export to something that they can print from. Anybody else notice the reduction when exporting and fix the problem? Thanks, Keith
  19. Hi there, I'm working on a PDF with a VERY complicated logo that seems to have been created with about 400 little bits - is there a way of grabbing the whole logo and deleting it, rather than from the layers panel doing one piece at a time? I might be being dense - but any help with this appreciated! I've attached a screen grab to show you what I mean . . . THANKS.
  20. I just went to replace an image on an AD document and noticed this new option for Embed/Link. I haven't seen this mentioned on any changelogs - have you accidentally pushed out the feature too early? I also noticed images I tried to rename on my computer were throwing up an error because the file was 'already open in Affinity Designer', so it seems to be working.
  21. HI! I'm trying to use Apply image on iPad but I have unexpected results. First of all, how I can select another layer as source? In Desktop version I have to drag the layer on the Apply Image filter's box. (Why not to show all layers in the list???) Here on iPad it doesn't work. I didn't find any way to make it works. And I made a macro on Desktop version, doing something like this. Of course, it works with every single images. If I import that macro on iPad, I have very odd result. Something doesn't work at all on iPad with Apply Image.
  22. Hi folks, I would like to insert a freely composed image in another picture wiith the perspective projection feature on iPad Air 2, newest app version. Unfortunately I've been not successful after tying for one or two hours. When I mark an area with the perspective projection function and zoom in with the hand tool, I can draw freely and everything works fine after tapping perspective projection again. But this does not work with objects like pasted images or rectangles whose always get inserted in new layers. When I group the layers and rssterize them to one I am not able to reset the zoom mode. Is there any possibility for doing that in the iOS version? I wish you a beautiful snowy Advent Sunday!
  23. Second day into using AP. (On a tablet enviroment) Looked around re my question which is “Finger rotate canvas / image” At best i can use the select image at the top is a handle use this to rotate image. What i wish to do is be able to pinch zoom in and out with the fingers, this works great thank you, now I like to rotate the image with the fingers please on an ipad, similar to say procreate. Can this be done ? If so how and if not can this be implemented in the near future up dates please. Regards Rob
  24. Affinity Is The Best of All...But it would be good if we could edit & compose motion image like GIF...Can we get this in future update...!? :^) or I'm just pushing You guys in trouble...!!! :^(
  25. Why can't I just save an image as either TIFF, PSD or even JPG after the Develop Persona. Why this complicated Export Persona? Adobe at least got that right. This is a struggle every time. I'm sorry but I'm giving up on this.
