  1. Hi Suppose I copy and page an image into my affinity photo document. By default it is put on to a new layer of the type "image layer". This is useful because I can shrink the image or stretch it using the move tool and all the original pixels are remembered if I stretch or scale the image again layer later - it is not resampled like Photoshop. My question is, after shrinking the image layer, is it possible to restore it to the original size it was when it was first pasted in to my document? At the moment I can only get it to roughly its original size/aspect ration by guess work. If I make it even slightly bigger than it was originally, it will become pixellated. Thanks.
  2. Frequent question - what is the difference between two different layers like "Image" and "Pixel". "File > Open" command, opens the photo as a "Pixel" layer. Dragging photo from a folder to an open document, creates the "Image" layer. To work with pixel selection, the "Image" layer must be converted to the "Pixel" layer (right click, Rasterise). Image layer allows you to replace images, this is very useful for working with complex design. Image layer allows you to return the original scale or dpi (ppi). Image layer saves compression if it is jpg, reducing document file size. https://affinity.help/photo/English.lproj/pages/Layers/layerImage.html Image layer can be a link to a file, which greatly reduces document file size. https://affinity.help/photo/English.lproj/pages/Media/embeddingVsLinking.html Image layer allows you to quickly recolor, by simply selecting the desired fill or stroke color. "Convert to Curves" command, turns the "Image" layer into a vector object with a Bitmap Fill. You can edit the Bitmap Fill using the "Gradient Tool" https://affinity.help/photo/English.lproj/pages/Tools/tools_gradient.html
  3. I came across a strange behaviour concerning image layers vs. pixel layers. In the attached file there are two groups each with the same layers: Well, actually there is a little difference between the groups: in the lower group the bokeh image is an image layer, in the upper group the image layer was rasterized to an pixel layer. Both bokeh layers have the same blend ranges: The mask layers in both groups are completely white. When the mask is switched off, in both groups the resulting images are completely the same. But when the mask is switched on, although as an empty mask it should not have any effect, in the image layer group the resulting image differs from the "unmasked" version. This looks like a bug to me. AP behaves as expected when blend ranges are reset. It looks as if the "white color" of the mask layer has some effect because of the setting in the source layer ranges. Well, only in the image layer group. Strange.... AP 1.7.3.481 Windows 10 GirlWithBokeh_Mask.afphoto
  4. The Flood Select tool apparently does not work on Image layers. Works fine on pixel layers but not on image layers which is pretty inconvenient. And I'm not talking about editing or drawing on the Image layer, but only selecting the desired parts of it with the Flood Select tool to for example make a mask from that selection or paint inside the selection on another layer to name just two cases where it would be helpful.
  5. After placing an image file in a document the newly created layer is of the "Image"-type, which might be ok to avoid recompressing the image, if you plan to export the document as pdf. But it is necessary to ratserize this layer in order to make pixel manipulations to it. I forget to do this almost every time I place an image, thus pixel manipulations just do not work but AP does not even complain that it is an image layer I want to work on... So it would be very handy to have a menu item "Place As Pixel Layer...". I think this could be solved by a macro, but I would prefer the command in the "File" menu.
