  1. Hello all, I drew this when I was 11 and rediscovered it while looking through my ancient portfolio. Long ago it was printed on the cover of this newsletter in black and white even though my original was in color marker. As practice with Affinity Photo, I chose to recolor my old illustration, but all I had was the printed copy on the left. The colorful original was never returned and I think you'll agree the black & white reproduction is muddy and lacks contrast. I scanned the reproduction and AP helped bring color back to my childhood drawing. My main goal—aside from returning color to a cherished memory—was to keep the integrity of the marker work. Under no circumstance did I want to clean up or improve what is otherwise a child's drawing. I'm happy to say Affinity Photo handled this personal project flawlessly. The file is over 300 layers, and each hue is isolated and colorized using Recolor Adjustments and further manipulated with Brightness/Contrast Adjustments, and of course Masks. Before recoloring, I painted out the gray fills to isolate & retain the strokes. Separate layers of the original B&W fills were then used for colorization. The Paint Brush tool and its options helped me get the job done. My old childhood drawing has color again, thank you Affinity Photo. 2. A late one but I thought I should give it a try anyway. Always wanted to do this
  3. Just a random royal black woman with a confident look
  4. Hello there! Just wanted to share a recent commission I finished a couple of days ago using Affinity Photo and a couple of custom brushes. The Ad agency wanted to have something in the 80's horror movies fashion, with a couple kids fighting against each other during a roadtrip from hell. I really don't know what will be the final use for this, but I had lots of fun making this type of illustration. Any comment good or bad, will be welcome as always! And here are some previous layout sketches. The original title was a little bit weird haha...
  5. Hello everyone! Just wanted to let you know that our new tutorial for Designer is up and running! It shows a quick approach I use all the time for generating quick ideas during my brainstorming sessions. You'll learn how to get the most out of Designer's primitives to sketch concepts faster and never run out of ideas. This tut includes FREE downloadable work files. Enjoy!
  6. While procrastinating for loads of work that I should've done like yesterday... I started to sketch this guy out... until the point it got finished haha... and that's the magic of procrastination... made with Designer :) Hope you like it!
  7. After almost 10 years of using mainly Illustrator... I'm trying really hard to get used to Affinity Designer. I really miss to be able to select nodes from different objects and to move handlers of a node symmetrically... but even tho I find that some features of AD are really sweet and really engourages me to keep learning. I'm really looking fordward to the 1.6 update :D and I'm glad I bought this nice software.
  8. Something I've been working on recently - http://houseofdeadleg.co.uk/portfolio/the-kings-hat/
  9. Companion to an earlier piece I did in a similar vein. Just to reacquaint myself with AD after a long hiatus using nothing but Ad*be
  10. Hello everyone, I've created a Skillshare Class using Affinity Designer, called "Illustration from Pencil to Vector!". I'm planning on creating more classes with this great software, that I now use on a daily basis as a graphic designer. My class features the creation of a character, from the pencil and paper, to the fast vector tracing and coloring in Affinity. Please check it! Thanks! http://skl.sh/2kwCcXx
  11. No reason for this, other that it just popped into my head.
  12. Hey guys! i coloured a doodle in Affinity photo using my wacom and thought it would be cool to share! You can have a look at the process here: http://www.behance.net/gallery/49651381/Acne Thank you! :D

  14. I've been lurking on the forums & getting my bearings with the Affinity suite for ... I actually don't want to look up when I bought these, because it's kind of embarrassing how long I've had them & haven't used them for much. But today when I was poking around, I ran across @frankentoon's awesome tutorials (specifically this one: http://www.frankentoon.com/single-post/2016/05/13/Toon-Lab-Course-2-a-simple-fantasy-creature ) and, well this happened:
  15. Hey guys! Just wanted to share a little character I made for fun with Designer using some of my texture brushes. Any comment will be more than welcome as always! Cheers!
  16. Hi All, I used Affinity Designer, from start to finish to make this huge illustration for the upcoming event of a Belgian union (ACV), the text reads "equality makes the difference". Designer worked great on this one (Isometric grids! Infinite zoom! Global Colors!) and I plan on using it way more often for client work. Keep up the good work!
  17. Inspired by some guys who show their impressive cars in this forum; pure vector, without pixel persona. A lot of work, but it's fun to work with AD ;)
  18. Hi, does anyone know how to do this in Affinity Photo, where you sketch manually with red pencil, draw the final strokes in black, scan the drawing, then disable / erase the red sketch by playing with the red channel? Thanks for sharing.
  19. Hi there everyone :) I am very happy to have completed a winter illustration entirely in Affinity Designer using a Wacom Cintiq Pro 13. I have been experimenting with Designer in my spare time in order to try out a few ideas combining vectors with texture brushes. This one was done in designer 1.5 and I have to say it has treated me very well as I progressed towards making the piece work as a whole. I do quite like clean shapes with a painterly/texured feel to them, and so with this one I feel that I am moving in the right direction at last. The project was sketched out from scratch and colour completed in Designer with a resolution of 5500x5500px. My main takeaway I belive was to be patient util I could start getting a good feel for the paint performance in relation to zoom level. Also, being able to customise and set up custom brushes for my liking and to match previous experience for a more traditional illustrative approach. For brushes I started out with the Daub concept brushes pack but ended up picking them appart and to set up my own in the end :) It would be great to hear about your experiences and feedback in general towards using affinity designer in illustration based workflow :)

  21. Hello everybody! This is my latest illustration in Affinity Designer using Frankentoon's newest brush pack: Texturizer Pro hope you dig! :)
  22. I am not very fond of vectors, but had to try it out to test Designer, that will (probably) be one of my main design programs from now on. Still, I will keep to bitmaps most of the time. Here is my very first, simple, but still, all vector drawn, illustration.
