  1. Hello Affiniteers! I am a long-time Illustrator user and now a recent convert to Affinity Designer and wanted to share what I've made with AD. I saw the sale that was going on about a month ago and decided to pull the trigger. Glad I did as Affinity Designer is a very well-oiled machine that already offers a robust set of features that have been brilliantly thought out and has immense potential for further features. Well done team Serif! One of the features that I was most interested in when I purchased AD was the isometric grid and its features. I started out with a simple project: The NES controller. It's just a cube at the end of the day so I figured it'd make for a great first project. The tools are pretty self-explanatory if you are familiar with other design software and everything felt incredibly intuitive. Anywho, I have a habit of droning on and on when I'm excited about something and Affinity Designer definitely inspires that side of me. So without any further ado, please enjoy some of my work. I hope you enjoy my work! I plan to keep on making more isometric controllers for the time being, with a Gamecube controller being the next piece. Like my work? Check out my Dribbble account where you can see more: https://dribbble.com/b_houtz I also just joined this hip new thing called "Instagram" recently in 2019 and if you're looking for an account to follow (hah) I would be honored to have you join me: https://www.instagram.com/sly_hound/ On some of these controller posts, I have thoughts on Affinity Designer for those who are interested in such things. Thanks!
  2. Hi guys! First off, I'm coming from an art background, so you see where my ideas are coming from and what I do with AP. You did an amazing job with the recent updates of the brush engine in Affinity Photo, I really like to play with it and the performance got much better for painting. My 2 cents: could you give the color picker (alt key when you use the brush tools) a little bit more thought? There is always a 1 second delay and it makes working slower than any other painting software I used so far. Also, the "magnifying glass effect" (for a lack of a better word) should be optional. Can't really imagine why I'd want to have that. The scrubby zoom could benefit from an option to not snap on 50% and 100%. Super useful often times but in some cases it may be better to turn it off. I know, Painting is not the main focus of the application, but it could become a real alternative for Illustrators and concept artists if small things like this would be solved. Look at how many painters are out there, just check ArtStation.com for example. Thank you Best wishes Flo

  6. Sundays are always good for experimentation and blowing off some creative steam, without client deadlines and briefs. So for this Sunday I created a poster for one of my favorite Electronic Music producers: Chicane. Chicane has released a few albums that have been my creative companions for many many years ad I always go back to them when inspiration is needed. Here you can see the poster and some screenshots with details. Got any questions? Let me know. I would be more than happy to answer them Cheers from Greece Stratos.
  7. Follow this link to see a video that demonstrates this sugggested feature visually. This would be a brush feature adjustment that is a bit more “free” and intuitive than our current ability to adjusted vector lines with the pressure curve. This tool would allow us to grab our vector lines and push and pull them from any point on the individual vector without affecting any of the other vectors in the document. After seeing Kyle Webster working in this way in Adobe Animate, I thought, “Surely we could have a tool like this in Designer that could be even better.”

Downloaded the 1.7 update last night and had a quick play, really liking the new feature additions. Some of them might've been handy for this project I've been working on recently, ah well:)

  13. Hello All, I have a rather unusual request and hope that no one is upset by my posting it on this Forum. I write short stories and get them illustrated via posting commissions. One story I want illustrated is particularly suited to being illustrated in a digital art form but my usual postings have not generated any interest form digital artists. I am wondering if anyone on this Forum is, or knows of, an artist who might be interested in a paid commission to illustrate a short story. If so, I would be happy to hear from them so that we might continue discussions directly, off the Forum. Sincerely, Robin

    Full Heart

I have been a fan of Moby for many years, I like his melancholic style. The song "Harbour" reads: "My heart is full, my heart is wide". I thought about how big a heart can be. No idea. But when it's big, it should be filled with love rather than hate. https://www.bodobe.de/full-heart/
  17. Interested in computers, graphics, animations, games, vr, interactives and internet? Computer graphics, animations and interactions are now self-evident. You just have to pick up your smartphone, tablet, desktop computer or what else and you feel intuitively when you have to swipe, click, drag or pinch zoom. You also expect nothing less than nice interfaces with smooth animations. But it wasn't always like this... There were times where there were no editors like Photo and Designer, nor Illustrator, nor Photoshop, and even computers and animations of frames didn't exist... I wrote a blog series of six where I like to take you on a journey through time with our focus on learning about the development before and during the creation of computers, digital graphics, animations, graphical interfaces, graphics software, interactivity, 3D, a pinch of the first games, the creation of the internet and a touch of virtual reality. I have made more than 110 illustrations for this series with Affinity Designer and also provide each part with at least one interactive to bring the events alive as good as possible for you. Part 1 is out there now! Hope you like it and I'm sure you learn something new from it and be surprised by some events! There will be a new part every month from now. Enjoy!
