    Easy luminosity adjustments

    Attached is an AP file containing just a group of adjustments. Copy and paste the group as a child of an image (or above if you like). Then open the Curves, HSL or Vibrance sub-groups and double-click on any of the adjustments to tweak blacks, shadows, mid-tones, highlights or whites. It's quite simple - just a curve in Blend Ranges for each. You can constrain changes further with masking. You can also use it in conjunction with macros from a previous post (https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/38379-luminosity-mask-selection-macros/), for example to preview area of the image that will be affected. 5-Stage_Adjustments.afphoto
  2. Photoshop has traditionally had the Select > Color Range command. There is also HSL keying inside the Hue/Saturation adjustment toolset, which, annoyingly cannot be used to create selections for use with other commands without clumsy workarounds (that I know much better than I would care to admit). What I am hoping to see is a non-destructive way to do masking based on luminance, HSL tools, as well as possibly more sophisticated keying algorithms that are found in video software (Primatte, Keylight, etc.). Most video-focussed color correction software (DaVinci Resolve, Speedgrade, Lustre, Baselight, FilmMaster, Assimilate Scratch) allows for non-destructive HSL keying already. The most elegant way I can imagine this working inside Photo is that similar to regular layer masks, a new procedural mask layer type for non-destructive HSL/Select Color Range masks with adjustable parameters would be available. Like an adjustment layer, except that the result would be a mask instead of an RGBA image, to be used just like regular layer masks. That way, it would be easy to adjust the selection parameters interactively after the fact, and, if need be, rasterize destructively to a regular raster mask layer. In additions to the keying in Luma, RGB, HSL, YUV and LAB, parameters for blurring the result, expanding/contracting the mask would be useful. The exact same functionality could then double as a vastly improved "Select Color Range" command as well.
  3. Hi, I really miss the feature to select an individual color range/falloff on HSL adjustment layers. In Photoshop there is additionally the possibility to select the color range through color pickers. Is there a plan to add this feature in next version?

I really Love AP and AD both Programs are very easy to understand.AD gave me the intresst in Vector Design back,i was always on a war with Illustrator and never tried to work with, because it was too complicated for me. I have a Idea/suggestion for AP: HSL Sliders in RAW Develop Persona I have a Program called Photodirector 5 ,this Program have a splitted Menu for 3 things: Tone /Saturation / Brightness you can adjust colors just by this.I know AP have his own HSL Sliders,but a bit more defined,when just 2 oder 3 colores need some correction.And i like to do this stuff right on RAW File.Lightroom have a similar Function for this.I added a screenshot what i me.
  5. It would be a welcome addition if we could make a swatch based on another swatch, not unlike Sass (https://robots.thoughtbot.com/controlling-color-with-sass-color-functions). In interfaces for example, I could create a green button with a darker green border. The darker green would be based on the original green and have the same hue and saturation, but the lightness would differ. That way, if I later change my mind and want to make all green buttons blue, the dark border would shift along. I'm looking forward to your thoughts!

    HSL sliders broken

    Hi, HSL option in colour palette seems to be broken? There is a Hue box, which is getting in the way of the S and L sliders, making HSL unusable right now, see attach pic... Thanks! Wayne

When using a curve masked to a specific area to adjust the brightness values of skin tones this causes the saturation values to increase, so it is necessary clip a HSL desaturation adjustment to it to bring the values back in line. I have tried every combination of clipping and masking these two adjustment layers together with no success. In PS this is the core of beauty photography retouching. Passing the adjustment down through clipping is a standard behavior of adjustment layers clipped to another adjustment layer with mask. Here are screenshots with all the attempts in the layer tabs as well as the Ps example. If there is a workaround please let me know. Thanks Kyle

  9. I am using the new Workbook and in several places it instructs to enter particular values for the color HSL. However the only way I have found so far is to use the colour wheel and this is difficult to do if one wants to set precise values. Is there some way in which one can actually enter the HSL numbers?
  10. I opened a PSD doc in AD and noticed that the HSL slider (yellows) are the exact opposite in terms of values in order for them to be exact. The PSD opened in PS has a yellows +25 value, but when you open this doc in AD the value is correct but the color is wrong. In order for it to be correct, at least to my naked eye, you have to slide to the opposite value to be right, in this case -25. I attached images to show this.
  11. Hi, I'm accustomed to having a dropper tool in my HSL filter and also to being able to manually setting the Hue ranges (ie. as in PhotoPlus, but not only). Can you implement this functionality? Also, this works better with hue previews (buttons with hue shown) instead of dropdown as it is now.

  13. I created a graphic in Affinity Photo that my client wants a PSD file of. I saved out the file as a "PSD (preserve editability)". When I opened the new PSD file in Photoshop the HSL layers that are masked to groups or pixel layers were not preserved, but HSL layers that are on their own layer are preserved. I then added back the HSL layers that didn't come over to Photoshop. Then I applied the same settings from the HSL layer in Affinity Photo to the HSL layer in Photoshop but the results didn't turn out the same. I played around with the settings to discover that the Hue Shift setting in Photoshop had to be set opposite from the Hue Shift setting in Affinity Photo to get the same results. Is this a bug or purposeful? So to recap, the two issues were: 1. HSL layers were not preserved when masked to groups or pixel layers when saved as PSD 2. When adding the HSL layers in Photoshop the Hue Shift setting had to be opposite of the same setting in Affinity Photo to get the same results. (see attached screenshot)
  14. Well, I've got a question referring to the HSL Shift Adjustment. ​I have combined the HSL Adjustment with the Posterise Adjustment to create a really colorful and nice effect on an image. But when I export the picture or even zoom in the colors shift and a quite boring picture develops. So how is it possible to make these effects static to get my expected picture?
  15. Hi there, I'm new to AP but have been using PS and LR for years. I've noticed that the HSL tool in Affinity Photo looks to be nearly identical (save for the omission of an "orange" channel). However if I use values in AP similar to the ones I would use in PS or LR the image ends up clipping or being posterized. Am I doing something wrong? I have attached an example. This is before using the HSL tool in AP. After HSL in Affinity Photo, notice the posterization effect, this does not occur in PS or LR. Maybe the scales are different?
  16. Hi! I have found that when my document has an HSL adjustment layer, this sometimes prevents 2x export. I have tried increasing the DPI of the document but this doesn't seem to help. Has anyone seen this before? Is there a workaround? See attached screenshot. In the layers tab of the export persona a warning is displayed when hovering over the yellow triangle.
  17. Hi, I bought 'Affinity Photo' recently and is overall great and powerful tool replacement for PS. i want to increase or decrease the amount of Luminosity or saturation to skin tone. But with available slider colors, i cannot able to choose skin colors correctly. FYI, LR or PS has option for Orange color for skin and they have the sampler tool to place on whatever color and change HSL amount directly by dragging the mouse. Do i have similar function in Affinity or I missed out something? Do I have option to adjust HSL values in RAW mode?

    HSL Color Selector

    If you choose Sliders and HSL in the Color Selector, the color bar across the bottom extends up to cover all but the Hue slider. In all other choices, RGB, CMYK, etc, the bar is below the sliders and does not interfere.
