  1. Although the range of picker types you have is quite wonderful, I'm used to working with HSB/V (Brightness or Value) instead of HSL (for lightness.) It's a common way of specifying colors especially in the land of video. HSL is a similar user experience, but there are a lot of times where it just makes sense to think of 100% brightness (which, to get the same RGB value, somehow works out to 50% lightness.) (And as you probably know, Adobe Photoshop's picker has HSB, not HSL.) This website does a great job of dynamically showing the difference: http://colorizer.org Would you con
  2. Pattern Layer Effects Affinity Photo 1.9 beginner tutorial Add FX to the new Pattern Layer. In this Digitally Fearless beginner Affinity Photo tutorial I not only show how to create a layer pattern, but also away to apply and add effects to it. https://youtu.be/S-2foNdXXHc
  3. Hi, i would like to ask for a more precise tool to select HSL ranges. I `m usuall finding myself recoloring a lot and the precision would safe a lot of time form masking and etc Changing the values on the wheel is very crude i think. Really hard to nail it tightly down Additionaly i hate when moving external grey circles move the internal ones ;( when i just pinpointed at least one part Maybe there is a way to do it but i cannot find nothing ;( -Piotr
  4. This is my first post I'm new to this forum. Ive tried and looked for hours to find out how to save all my adjustment layers to Preset(s). From my understanding you have to save each layer and label it. For example, adjusting and then saving the Vibrance as a preset and naming it. After saving each layer preset on my finished picture and labeling them, I opened up another photo, which I want to have the exact same adjustments. I clicked on all the custom layer adjustment presets I just made but the picture doesn't turn out the same in the end? Even though when I click on each preset (in the ne
  5. I might be wrong or expecting to much. When using a document with 16 or 32 bit color depth, and 16-bit colors in color panel, i would expect beeing able to enter 16-bit values to RGBHEX. But it will only accept 00-FF (8 bit) and always replace the "high" byte with 00. The "resulting" color code from all 3 channels will simply double/repeat the given 8-bit hex value. This is at least confusing, or a bug. HSL or LAB do not offer any option to enter 16-bit values. And last but not least, the info panel is completely unable to show 16-bit colors.

  7. Lowering luminosity with an HSL adjustment layer on pale colored pixels might saturate the pixels, instead of making them darker. This is true where any of the RGB values is maxed out, ie at 255. I discovered this with a sky that was slightly blown out. The example image shows blown out reflections of spotlights on the ice in a hockey game. A slight adjustment of luminosity makes the border of the blown out area saturate, in RGB/CMYK base colors. This can be reproduced by purposely filling areas of a pixel layer with colors like 255 255 249 and then applying HSL and lower the luminosity.
  8. In this case it is the HSL filter. Here only the head of the snake should be desaturated. In Photo 1.8.4 it works as intended. In beta 1.9.0.199 also the shadow under the snake suddenly disappears. See videos. 9. Attached is a macro set for splitting RGB image into separate layers for a number of colour models. RGB: Basic separation RGBW: New model! Like CMYK but Red, Green, Blue and White RGB-W: Like RGBW but only two layers for separate colour/tone editing CMY: Effective inverse of RGB CMYK: Standard internal model CMY-K: Like CMYK, but with only two layers for separate colour/tone editing HSL: New model! Hue, Saturation and Luminosity on separate layers! HSL-RGB: Same as HSL, but with Hue broken down into separate RGB layers Principles used in doin
  10. I don’t normally use HSL colours so this is a new area for me. In my attached image I have two rectangles, each with a horizontal linear gradient fill. The top rectangle gradient goes from RGB 0, 0, 0 on the left to RGB 255, 0, 0 on the right and that looks as I would expect (the colour at the middle point is RGB 128, 0, 0, as can be seen in the little square below it). However, the bottom rectangle gradient goes from HSL 0, 100, 50 on the left to HSL 360, 100, 50 on the right but I don’t get the colours in-between the two as I can see in the “H” slider of the Colour Chooser. I
  11. Add HSL to image. Adjust Hue. Colour ring handily shows you where colours have changed. Add another control, say Curves. Click back to the HSL adjustment. Now the colour rings are incorrect. Change Hue and the rings leap to where they should be. Bit annoying if I just wanted to check how hue had changed.
  12. When I click on another color target (for example from 'all colors' to 'blue', or from 'blue' to 'yellow') the sliders have to move to the changed setting of the selected color, but they stay on their position and falsify the next color to be changed when touching.
  13. Hi, there is a bug in HSL adjustment dialog box. While moving range points for selective colour adjustment, the behaviour is strange sometime. See my video. The same in Af Photo. Af Publisher looks good. HSL.mov
  14. Start with a colour wheel image, add HSL adjustment, then turn saturation half-way down and luminosity half-way up. Now add Blend Ranges and pull down left node of right-hand chart. Colours like yellow are strongly affected but blue and red are hardly affected at all. Why is this happening? My guess is that lightness conversion in Blend Ranges uses luminosity perception, where yellow is seen as a brighter colour and blue a darker colour. However HSL luminosity is value-based and so shows the same amount of greyness. Hence we have a conflict in the treatment of luminosity. I don'
  15. Hi, There is a problem with my HSL. It doesn't look like it is supposed to. I can't see all the colours as you can see in the image. HSL is usually showing in a form of circle but I have only one quarter of the circle. Thanks for helping, Lauriane
  16. Hi there is a problem with visibility of HSL filter influence on an image in editor in CMYK8 document colour mode. In CMYK8 mode HSL changes are almost invisible but after exporting to PDF you can see real changes that have been made. It is very misleading then you have no correct colour view in editor. 17. Hey Guys! Has anyone else had an issue with the HSL UI? This seems to happen quite often but I can't necessarily repeat it, it just happens randomly. However when this happens, my only recourse is to restart AP. Pretty frustrating to say the least. Specs: MacBook Pro 15" (2019) macOS Mojave, V. 10.14.6 2.6 GHz Core i7 32 GB 2400 Mhz DDR4 RAM Radeon Pro 560X 4GB Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB Edit: Sorry, forgot to mention I'm using Affinity Photo 1.7.3
  18. Hi everyone, I'm using publisher with an external monitor, the main screen is a retina resolution, the external monitor is a full hd resolution. In the external monitor i used to have some panel detached form the main Publisher window, if i open the hsl color wheel panel from a fullhd monitor after giving some input on the retina monitor, the color wheel is drawed in retina sizes (@2x). 19. Hi! I just recently purchased AFF Photo & am using the Windows version. My question is I'm editing a PSD mockup with smart objects & works great with adding designs to pixel layers however I can't get the colors to change on the objects that are HSL adjustment layers. When I double click it brings up the HSL wheel however no matter what I do I can't get the color to change. I've attached a screen shot of what I'm working on. You'll see I've selected the lamp shade I'm trying to change color on. Thanks for any help in advance!
  20. Dear Team Serif, I am currently working on some pixel art. When I try to move a colour in my HSL colour palette in the Pixel Persona Affinity Designer shuts off. I am only writing you, when I found some errors, I am really sorry for that. Lovely greetings from Berlin Anke Goldbach Here is the Error Code: Process: Affinity Designer [1225] Path: /Applications/Affinity Designer.app/Contents/MacOS/Affinity Designer Identifier: com.seriflabs.affinitydesigner Version: 1.7.3 (1.7.10) App Item ID: 824171161 Ap
  21. HSL. Select a colour, then the picker. Dismiss HSL box via top-left 'x'. Cursor is still in picker mode and appears still to be operational. (should return to normal cursor after HSL box dismissal)
  22. Hello, I would find it very useful if I was able to freely position the tool pop ups from for example the curve or hsl tool. Especially on the iPad Pro 11 inch the center placement of the tool often makes it harder to judge the impact adjustments have on the image while using the tool as it takes up a lot of screen real estate in the center. A great addition would be if something like being able to undock tool and drag it with two fingers to a different location in the workspace would be implemented. Thanks for considering, Johannes
  23. If I make a selection of a dress, it seems logically that I want to contain my changes to the selection. However, if I select a dress, add Adjustment, it will not apply to the selection. If I Invert, then I can adjust within the selection. Is it me or just how it works? Example: on main image layer, I make selection of a dress. Then I select Adjustment, HSL. No changes will be made within the selection. If I invert, the HSL Adjustment will be made within the selection. I know it has a simple explanation that escapes me Thanks for guidelance.
  24. Hi all, If I try to modify the HSL control points on a 32 bit image in the blue channel for example to green, nothing happens, I have to click on the green channel in order to see the greens affected...(is better a video than words). Everything seems to work fine if I convert the 32 bit image into a 8 bit one. I'm attaching the sample file. Cheers, Juan HSL_32_bit.zip
  25. Interesting new HSL interface. Thanks. Though I am wondering what happened to HSV. Is it just taking a sabbatical or has it been consigned to history? I rather liked it and it would be sad to see it go.
