  1. Every tiny edit to the values on a preflight profile will be recorded in the History panel. This floods it, making it go over the undo limits very quickly, and losing your ability to undo recent changes. See the attached video for a simple visual explanation of what's going on. The expected behaviour was that only the last value would be tracked in the History panel. For example, dragging the slider from 400% to 40% should only count as 1 entry. Dragging the slider again to 120% should be just one another entry too. I'm using the Windows Store version, maybe this will help track this bug. Thanks! History bug.mp4
  2. I made a little Collage with APh this morning. I would be even more excited about Affinity Photo if I could do the placing of files directly from APh not by loading and placing. If the file is already open, it would be much easier for a collage but also for Panorama, HDR or FocusStacking. In the cemetery you can find gravestones from the 17th to the 20th century.
  3. Select/Deselect action should not be included in the document history. ( I'm not talking about the Marquee selection, it's about object selection.) Or give me the option to exclude them. Many graphic apps such as Adobe or Corel do not include them in the document history.
  4. Hello, I noticed in my last 2-3 works in which I saved history with the document, that Designer instantly crashes once I try to go back more than 3-5 steps in history. Anyone experienced similar? Thx. Z. Crash report.rtf
  5. Please add a feature making undo hide (or go past) all non destructive actions in the History, just by pressing Ctrl+Z. When I press Ctrl+Z I have no interest in going through all of those "Set current selection" and "Clear selection", that are added for every single click I happen to do in the document since the last change I made. That's not a good user experience. There are similar requests (e.g. here), and at least one of them reported as bug but closed by a developer just saying it's by design (obviously not even considering to move it to the requests section or give it some thought). I'd say it maight very well be by design, but it's not good design if it's just taking extra time. I can very well understand that Affinity Publisher needs to store all of those selections to be able to go back in history properly, but end-users should not need to deal with the underlying programming decisions – or see the traces of them.
  6. When opening a file and performing an export and no other operation. The export is logged as a change in the history to the original. This is not what the export function does. It uses the original as a source to create a new file in a different or same format but different name. This should not be taken as a change to the original. Since AP logs this as a change to close the original requires an extra step to save the change that didn't happen or exit without saving the non-existent change.
  7. Hi Serif! I'm Maurizio, and I'm a graphic and comics student from Rome. I'm having trouble with the iPad version of Designer and Photo. I have a 2nd generation iPad Pro (10.5) with iPadOS 14.5. In the iPad Settings section I saw that Designer and Photos take up a lot of space, especially Designer which takes up more or less 74 GB. Although I have closed some documents and deleted some history, it seems that this indirectly increased the space occupied by the app. Before deleting some documents, the space occupied by Affinity Designer was about 55 GB. How can I reduce it? And how can I see more information about the documents open within the program? I can only see the size of a document when I save it as a file (.afdesign or .afphoto) and only on the Files app, but I'm not sure it's the same size as an "open document" within the program. There is also the cache of the edit history (which will be deleted once the document is saved) to be considered in the space occupied. It’s frustrating not being able to fully and directly view and modify all document information within the app. It would be really interesting to see this feature in a new update! Thanks for your attention, I wish you the best! Keep it up and have a nice day! Maurizio
  8. Can somebody please explain how "fill history" work? Help file did not show any hints.
  9. Changing a gradient type when using the Fill Tool adds huge amounts of the same entry, "Set fill type", to be added to the History panel. This is to the point that it will push everything else away, leaving only these repeated entries in the History panel, essentially denying you any way to undo your work. Steps to reproduce: Create or select an object With the Fill Tool drag across the object to create a simple gradient On the context bar at the bottom, scroll to another fill type, like conical Watch as the History panel get absolutely overwhelmed with the same entry over and over I've actually manage to crash the app doing this, but it doesn't happen always See the attached video for a visual guide on how to trigger this issue. Workaround while this bug isn't fixed: With your object selected, DO NOT trigger the fill type popup by tap the fill type name Instead tap the arrows to the left and right of the fill type name Each tap on these arrows will only had one entry to the History panel If you accidentally trigger the fill type popup, either tap away to close it or directly tap once on another fill type, NEVER SCROLL THROUGH THE LIST Directly tapping another fill type on the popup still adds two duplicate entries to the History panel, but that's still better than flooding it and loosing your undo ability Thanks! 10. Hello to all! Crazy idea … Is it possible to #save #history as a #video while #editing or #creating anything in your #amazing #software ?! Please, make it possible! Thanks! #AffinityPhoto #AffinityDesigner #AffinityPublisher http://bobarev.com
  11. For sharing the way a picture has been developed with others, it would be very helpful to have a detailed list of steps from the history with all parameter data. The history window does not provide this in detail and complete. Is there any possibility to get a list, csv oder json file with this kind of data? Searching in the docs and this forum did not give me any idea. Any help appreciated.
  12. A colleague and I were creating some tutorials for our end users when he went to a layer in Photo, right-clicked on it and chose Delete. We then noticed that there was no UNDO under the Edit menu for that operation. The History tooltab was also blank suddenly. He then went to recreate the layer and suddenly the history reappeared and he was able to undo and get the layer back. We tried to recreate the scenario but could not. I'm certain it was a glitch but just wanted to make it aware to all.
  13. I import a raw file and it will open in the Develop Persona. The History panel records the changes. Satisfied, (I click Develop and the image now opens in the Photo Persona. I make a few changes but want to return to the Develop Persona to make changes. The History of previous changes are gone. Every is reset as though it is a brand new image and the changes I made earlier are set in stone. I cannot save with history, nor is there a sidecar file with the recorded settings. Am I missing something?
  14. Using the History is causing Designer to crash. For the record, this is a 11 inch by 16 inch, 300 dpi file I’m working with. The background image is (was?) a 72 dpi image from photos. Did I wear out my iPad’s RAM, or is this just 1.7 update growing pains? C487C27A-26E7-4790-832A-96AA6BAA8ED3.MP4
  15. Good Evening to all! I'm trying to transfer away from Adobe and solely use Affinity. I do a lot of restoration and always include notes found on the back of the image and other relevant history, is that possible on Affinity Photo? Thanks for any replies in advance! Tripack
  16. Affinity Photo version 1.6.5.135. I have just noticed that the history panel is not visible in the photo persona. How do I get it back? Thanks, Jim Lawrrence
  17. I know you have the History Tree option but I would love to see a Snapshot button which would be clicked on to store your publication at that point. Each time the button is clicked then a new Snapshot icon would appear in the title bar somewhere and you could simply jump between these or delete them as and when you wish. This would allow pages to be experimented on and simply put back to a set point as required. If this is not possible, how about a Snapshot Button that inserts a Snapshot Icon in the History Tree which did the same thing? I really don't like the short cut options that pop up when you click the Right Mouse Button as they never appear to change. I would love to see the contents change dependent on the screen object selected. So when a picture is clicked on you have options such as align, replace image etc right there, rather than have to keep moving up to the title bar; Or can we have the option to customise this menu drop down please? As you work on a design I can't see an option to review it as it would look when published. Is there one? as it would be nice if it appeared as a pdf document so you could view your progress. When you drag images etc off the page they can't be seen, even when the clipping option is turned off, so you can't store assets off the edge of the page which is very strange and really unhelpful when you are playing around with object positioning on the page. When you select a page would it not be possible to place a thumbnail of each asset on that page in a side bar where they can be selected without clicking on them on the page? I say this because it is so easy to move objects out of position when you are simply want to highlight them. Locking them in position isn't really the answer when you still need to move them around. An assets menu bar would also allow objects to be dragged out onto the page as a copy, or dropped into another box to replace the contents. Highlighting text in a text box is a very hit and miss affair and quite often the text box is dragged out of position. Could an option be added so that you hold the LMB down for a second or so and you automatically go into text edit mode? This is a big program so apologies if somethings there already which I may not have found yet. I really like this software, and because of the price it will be a must buy when its released. Keep up the great work.
  18. Impressive at first look for a first beta. I come from QuarkXPress and I find AP intuitive. • Projects – What if you have several related files (stationery, brochure, etc.) and you want to them to share resources and formatting. If you add another item to the project, such as a booklet, could you pick up the resources and formatting? • Long documents – Sections, etc. How to handle long documents. • Issues – Publications with several locations, etc. Maybe ads change from region to region. • External copy editing while layout is being worked on. Could a text editor be used to edit placed text and have it update on the page geometry? • Versioning – is that Save History? Can you revert to a previous version. • Step and Repeat – Such as 4 across and 8 down, duplicate. • Repurposing – eBooks, web, etc. I am writing a book using Scrivener. I want to do my own layout, since I have a graphics and printing background and have been hoping AP will be ready by the time I am ready to layout my book. Scrivener recently included an option to output to software called Vellum.
  19. I know this may sound silly, but I will ask anyway. One might say "why would you care"? But I like to keep my files clean. First, I have "Save History With Document" checked. I have made a number of changes to my document. The last three (for example) changes I do not want to save, either in the document or the final image that I will export later. So I do "Undo" or use the scrubber to place my history highlight in the correct place. When I save and close my document, I want the save process to abandon those three extra changes so that when I reopen the document, the history only shows to the point at which I saved. I have not found a way to do this. I look forward to your reply.
  20. I know that I can figure this out by a lot of testing, but I thought I would ask here and see what I find? I see that Affinity Photo has both History and Layers. I see how each can be put to good use. How does "Save History with Document" affect layers and how does it affect History? Do both of these apply to saving to .afphoto document files and to exporting to JPEG? Do layers get exported to JPEG? I hope my questions make sense. I am obviously a newbie, but I really like the software. Thanks.
  21. So I've been using Affinity Designer for a few days (Just the trial version to test it out) and I am LOVING it. I intend to transition from Inkscape to this soon. It's really smooth to use and just feels less like a mechanical process, and more like art. So, Affinity has been an amazing program so far, but I have a few suggestions to make it better, or features to add. First of all, there should be node alignment options (I am attaching a file to demonstrate what I mean. Inkscape has this, but Affinity doesn't, unfortunately.) I just realized I can manually input x and y coordinates for nodes, which may work, but it would be a real pain, especially when there are multiple nodes to align. Plus, then you have to do math. Also, the alignment interface for objects. I love how it's designed for full control, but it doesn't seem intuitive. I don't know how to describe it, but again, I like how it was implemented in Inkscape, with only one panel with all the options instead of two panels with half the options. (It might be personal preference, but it's not a big deal). The thing that I miss however is distribute options for objects (It would be handy for nodes too) but I'll attach a file down below showing how it was implemented in Inkscape. Another thing I would like is for an inset object feature to be added. It's not a big deal, but it would be nice in a variety of circumstances. One more usability issue is the object history. I understand that the history is linear, and so when you make changes after going back it can't magically find your alternate history, but clicking on the document should NOT be considered an action! Let me explain, often I will do a design change, and then want to compare it to my previous design to see if it was an improvement, so I use undo and redo to go back and forth to view. The issue is, however, is that a selection will appear over objects that redo their actions, so to see my graphic properly, I click on the document to clear the selection... and whoops! My design reset itself to the old design! This was because it for whatever reason the program thought that clicking on the document was an action and so rewrote all future history steps with the "Click on document" action (Or whatever it is called) Now I have to redo it again! I understand that yes, doing that isn't the best way (I should make clones instead) but I use it a lot for small changes. Just to clarify, if you move an object or move a node, it should count as an action, but clicking on the document or selecting something shouldn't, because it doesn't make any impact on the actual graphics unless you do move something! Also, snapping doesn't seem to work on inset nodes, only on nodes that stick out more. These are all things that make Affinity Designer a little less fluid and exact to use, and are some features I miss from Inkscape. Please note, these are just features from Inkscape that I loved that are not available on Affinity Designer. I just want Affinity Designer to be the best program it could possibly be. I am a huge fan of Designer as a Illustrator level alternative for a extremely reasonable price!
  22. Hi, I would like to save history as separate txt file : for research, scientists are required to keep data regarding all changes done to a picture/photograph. Is it possible to save all previous changes's records as a text file? (like right click on history panel) Thanks
  23. When I export an Affinity file on iCloud, I just loses its history. Can’t find a way to keep it. When I reopen it, it’s the file without the history. If I instead duplicate it within the app, it maintains it if I select that option. I am new to the app so probably I’m doing something wrong. Is it possible to export the file WITH history to the cloud?
  24. I love the "save history with document" feature. But it certainly can balloon a file's size. How do you clear it? Just turn it off and back on? Or is there a more direct way?
  25. When using the undo brush in AP 1.6 by default it paints the original state of the image. I can modify this by clicking on the camera icon in the history panel next to one of the earlier states. After painting with one state selected in history panel, I would like to again paint to the original state, as if no camera icon would be selected. But there doesn't seem to be a way to clear the camera icon from history panel. I can only move it to other states, but then there is no way to undo-brush to the original state.
