  1. I think about buying my first MacBook (for Affinity I think about Pro 16 model with 18GB RAM and 512GB SSD) and I am looking for where invest my money wisely. Official suggestion for hardware are: It looks like any MacBook with M-series processors are compatible with Affinity Suite. From other hand I have Windows platform to compare, but I am more interested how something like MacBook Pro 16 with 18GB of memory and 512GB SSD based on M3 Pro can limit Affinity Suite? I change 12-years old laptop which I use for Affinity Suite since the beginning (v1 earliest versions of software). It has 32GB and I afraid that 18GB can after few years be too less - but I can find answer what I have to choose for my projects with Affinity Suite to get the best for the less? When even more than 16GB RAM is needed for Affinity Suite? I still try improve my skill and I am afraid stucking too because hardware limitations. M3 Pro still will be safe choice for above 5 years of using Affinity Suite? Is possible if my projects I can smoothly edit on current app version (Designer, Photo, Publisher) on this hardware that it will be possible after 10 years? I will be pay with 7 years installment so it is crucial for me get the best hardware for money without spending extra money for nothing. Any suggestion and comments are appreciated as I am moving from Windows to MacOS. The most used software on my new platform will be Affinity Suite case: graphics for web design / photo - included bunch processing editing mixed with brochures, posters, printing up to 2-3 m on longer edge max. I'm planning at the future with illustrations based on Wacom tablet too. No Affinity Suite task will be related with simple video editing, maybe record cleaning and improving sound quality. Thank you for your time!
  2. Hi, as you can see in the screenshot below, it mentions Hardware GPU acceleration* which says Direct 3D level 12.0 card. I don't understand it. It's too technical for me. How do I know if the GPU in my laptop has this feature? (Laptop GPU is NVIDIA 940MX). Further, if my current GPU doesn't have this feature, I would still like to know how to know if a GPU (which I would buy for my desktop) has this feature?
  3. My used-to-be-the-most-powerful laptop back in the day is now labouring under my graphics work. What should be done in a click of the trackball button is now a click, up to 1 hour and several cups of green tea later. Truth to tell, I bought the laptop for programming and database development and it's not cut out for high resource using graphics. So, I need to start planning for a powerful desktop for my Affinity Software and digital art etc. I'm a Windows user for many reasons (only had an Mac G5 once and that was for programming on a Mac) so looking towards a mostly Windows solution. What hardware do other Affinity afficionados use and would recommend? What experiences have you had with different types of hardware (graphics cards, CPU, RAM, SSD vs HDD)?
  4. Hi! I am making artwork that has many layers. When I am creating in AD on my MacBook Pro with 8 GB RAM, AD is slowing down and getting glitchy, choppy and has crashed once lately. As I am doing lots of illustration work, would having a computer with more RAM enable AD to NOT slow down? I see that my system requirements meet what is listed but I do not what AD to have these issues when I am working. Do you have any thoughts about optimizing the way I am using AD and or have any thoughts about what hardware is best for professional grade work? Thank you!
  5. Please add the possibility to use hardware such following: https://loupedeck.com/enhttps://monogramcc.com/https://www.contourdesign.com/product/shuttle/
  6. Hi folks, either I did not search properly or there is nothing yet to find. Neither on the web, nor in here. So please maybe you can be of help? I do want to use additional hardware on macOS as well as on iPadOS with Affinity Designer, Publisher & Photo. Of such I am talking: https://amzn.to/39ujeph or https://www.calumetphoto.de/product/Loupedeck-Plus-Spezialtastatur-Bild-Video-und-Tonmischpult/LPDPLUS?dfw_tracker=62390-LPDPLUS&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIn_fXjL696AIVzJ13Ch1SIANrEAYYAyABEgKJDvD_BwE or anything comparable. Thanks in advance!
  7. Hello The problem: I have have had Affinity Designer for 1 year now i think, but had not used it for a while. Came back to 1.7.1 version and the program felt a bit slow. I did update to 1.7.2 and still have this issue, With slow i mean, every time i used the view tool, the screen felt like, it was moving with a 0.1sec delay (huge smoothign effect) same goes for selection tool when selecting an area or simply moving objects, Bigger files around 50-60 MB are even worse sadly. What i tried: I tried looking into the performance settings and found the cause, which is the Nvidia GPU render option. I use laptop so i tried integrated card: Intel HD 630 and it started working pretty smooth, but has weird lag spikes from time to time. What may be the cause for the software to slower down on Nvidia GPU? First i thought i may have throttling issues, but i have undervolted my CPU and the laptop never reaches more than 42* temp. My laptop specs: Dell XPS 15 9570 CPU: Intel i7 - 7850h GPU: Nvidia GTX 1050 TI - Max Q edition Ram: 32Gb In short, the Intel Graphics work better which should not be like that and any help is appriciated
  8. Input please: As a photographer I’ve been using Lightroom on my (now outdated) iPad for years, and used my wife’s Macbook Pro when I needed features, not available on my iPad (photoshop). I don’t really like Lightroom, I’m intrigued by Affinity Photo, and I need new hardware - so here’s my dilemma: Is there any difference in performance/possibilities/features/flexibility using Affinity Photo on an iPad Pro, or an iMac? Because that might decide my hardware choice (I really like my iPad cuz I travel a LOT, but the output and flexibility is far more important). I hope this makes sense! Thanks in advance for any help!
  9. Hiya, I've just treated myself to photo and designer and I work from a MacBook Pro. I just wondered if any of you had recommendations for a graphic mat/pen that I could sync with my MacBook to make drawing/editing easier than having to struggle with the keypad thanks :) Sarah - based in the UK
  10. Any recommendations about high performance desktop, for best fluent and quality work with Affinity ? cpu, motherboard, graphic card, monitor, discs...etc., each separately, or a good, already integrated desktop. Thanks
  11. I've got a Wacom Bamboo tablet (I know it's rather dated, but it works well). When I regularly used Adobe Photoshop (18+ years) it wasn't as laggy, but with Affinity Photo I often notice quite a bit of lag. Sometimes I brush and it just doesn't show. I use a 9' USB cable because my wife likes cables to be unseen and out of the way (the same with computer boxes!). My system has 32Gb ram and quad-core i7 processor. As I mentioned before, it didn't lag much at all with Photoshop (but did on occasion). Is it possible that the length of the cord has something to do with the lag? Is it more probable that there's something going on with the software itself? Is it because the Bamboo tablet is older and a newer tablet would be more responsive? I'd like to explore these ideas and see what could give me a more responsive experience.
  12. I apologize if this question has already been asked and answered, but since I intend to buy a new laptop in the next month or so it is important for me to know how effectively Photo can use quad-core CPUs and dedicated GPUs? I'm leaning towards ultrabooks because of their superior mobility. However, if Photo is able to effectively use 4 cores and fast GPUs, I would rather get a beefier laptop, which is less mobile but offers more processing power. So, does anyone know what's crucial for good performance in Photo? Good single thread performance, additional cores or dedicated GPU? Thanks!
  13. Hey guys, I have a question regarding the performance of Affinity Designer using only a CPU. Working with large and complex files, really slows down my AD and im wondering if a graphics card would solve that problem, so I thought maybe i ask you guys here with more experience. My current specs are the following: Windows 10 Pro 64bit Intel i7-7700 @ 3.60 GHz 32GB RAM AD Version 1.5.3.69 So my AD is currently running only over the CPU and I thought maybe adding a GPU would increase the performance but after reading some topics in this forum I became a bit sceptical if this would improve my performance. Is it true that a GPU would only have a little impact on my experience? Or are these problems generally existent in the windows version? Unfortunatly I can't provide a example file due to corporate privacy guidelines.
  14. Not sure if this is the appropriate place to post this, but Intel HD 510 integrated graphics won't power AD very well. As your project grows it'll start to lag and stutter when panning and zooming. Not a huge deal, but it'll get old fast. In the attached image, the spikes in "GPU load" are from zooming and panning repeatedly. I doubt many experienced users are running onboard graphics, but maybe this will help other noobs out there.
  15. Hey all including hopefully some of the developers. I just heard about Palette Gear which Press Release shows launched two months ago. I just sent them an email and hoping some others will too. Maybe if enough of us tell them we'd like it to have full compatibility with Affinity products they'll implement it. I for one would love to get in on them as a holiday gift to myself. If anyone and especially the Affinity Developers could try to push the Palette Gear guys to support Affinity it would be fantastic. Here's the exact email I sent if anyone wants a template:
