  1. In version 1 when I was using the brush I had three options: width of the brush, Flow of the colour and Hardness which made the selected colour stronger. In version 2 I seem not to have Hardness with the Paintbrush. The function is greyed out and set at 100%. The function is available with the Clone tool so I know that it is there somewhere. I have tried using the various brush options and wondered if somehow I had disabled the Hardness when using the Brush. I have probably missed the obvious so anyone with a clearer mind: thank you
  2. I read that the windows shortcut for brush size and hardness are holding Alt + Right Mouse Button and then dragging left/right or up/down. However this is not working for me. Am I doing something wrong?
  3. I'm working with HP Pen on HP x360, as Tablet - flipped the Keyboard to the back. With HP Pen Control, its only possible to assign the Pen Buttons to ctrl OR to alt. So it's not possible to press ctrl+alt. It woud be very useful and helpful, if one could chose for Example only to use strg with pen up and down and left and right to control brush size and hardness.
  4. Hi, i have problem whit brush-hardness shortcut (ctrl+options+ left mouse button) on my mac. When i push them cant change size and hardnes but move whole aplication. Thanks for any advice.
  5. Are other people still having problems with this? I'm using Affinity Designer on a MacBook Pro with MacOs Mojave. I was using version 1.6 and couldn't get the hardness to adjust when in pixel mode on Designer. Then I saw the update to 1.7 was available and thought perhaps that would solve the problem. It didn't. I've tried adjusting hardness both with the ctrl+alt shortcut and with the toolbar. Rebooted my computer and nothing. Reset brushes in preference and nothing. Just opened up Affinity Photo and found the same problem there. I'm using a Wacom Intuos 5 in case that driver might be messing with things. I'm not sure what else to say. I've only been using it for a short time, but hardness has never worked for me. Help?
  6. Hee guys, I am new here, fairly new to the Affinity Designer program. I'm running into a little problem over here about brushes. When I'm in pixel mode and try to change the hardness of my brush into a softer brush, the brush won't change hardness.. Anyone got a tip for me? Thanks in advance
  7. I just tried affinity designer today and very disappointed by its brush. First it has no "soft" brush. Even if I set the hardness to zero it's still hard compared other software say ps. it got harder when I toggled on the accumulation pressure. Second, I found the pressure level is not high enough. The stroke I created in ps has a smoother gradients. The stroke had 80 levels of black and white but the stroke in affinity had only 60 so to speak. Did I miss some setting? how to solve these problems?
  8. This has been an issue for a while now. The blur brush tool adjustments in the tool bar (opacity, hardness and flow) don't seem to be doing anything. I've been using affinity photo now for about 7 months now. This never used to be an issue - the opacity, hardness and flow sliders would all have an effect on the blur brush tool. However all of the sudden, one day they stopped working and the blur brush tool is stuck on max blur! Can anybody tell me why or how to fix this? Note: these adjustments work just fine on paint brushes, burn/dodge brush tools etc its only an issue with the blur tool.
  9. Hey! So I had this specific issue where I want to fast and easy change brush size without accidentally affecting brush hardness while using the shortcut alt+R click+L click. Right now this command both affects brush size and brush hardness depending on if you move the mouse/tablet pen horizontally (size) or vertically (hardness). I would like to be able to disable just the vertical command so I can keep the brush hardness the way I originally customized when creating them while keeping the horizontal functionality. Is this possible to do, or is this option not available as of now? Edit: On another note, is there a fast way to switch from brush to brush in the form of a quick pop-up brush toolbox like how you do it in Photoshop when right clicking? If not, are there other shortcuts available in Affinity Photo? Thanks.
  10. WIN 7, a{ V. 1.6.2.97 In an Affinity Photo Tutorial on Lynda.com, in the section on refining a selection using the quick mask, "If we hold the kControl ad Otion keys together, we can drag up and down on the tool to make it harder and softe, and wwe can drag left and right to make it smaller and larger." What I get is circle with color values e.g. white = R 255 G 255 B 255, in fact that happens as soon as I use the Option key. This same tutorial says to Zoom with Cmd/Ctrl + Spacebar/--doesn't happen. In my version, when selecting, I have tool bar choices of New, Add, Subtract, Intersect and the online tutorial doesn't--I don't think the shortcut keys in the tutorial work the same way. I would really like to have a current tutorial that works. I'm very frustrated. I have AP on an iPad 2 and haven't noticed these problems. I'm not getting any work done because I'm struggling adapt from PS and not only is the app slow but fighting me every step of the way.
  11. Hello, There is one fabulously useful (and little known) keyboard shortcut in Photoshop to adjust brush size and hardness: you press Alt (on PCs), right-click your mouse, and drag the mouse left to right to increase/decrease brush size, and up and down to increase/decrease hardness. I use it all the time. This shortcut does not seem to exist in Photo 1.6, and I cannot seem to find a way to replicate it. Any ideas how to implement it, or should we suggest it for a future version? Thanks very much. EDIT: this shortcut applies regardless of the tool you use, as long as it is brush-based, e.g. it works with the Dodge tool as well as with the Paintbrush.
  12. I'm a brand new potential user who's currently trialling Affinity Photo. I like a lot of what I see, but have two key features I am looking for. I've done some online research, but cannot find clear answers. Is there any way to have a layer mask displayed as an overlay (e.g. semi-transparent red). I know I can use the quick mask feature, but would love to be able to just paint directly onto a blank layer mask and then check for missed patches using a red overlay. Can this be done? I have seen some references to brush size and hardness being adjustable using CTRL+ALT and then dragging the mouse, but I can't replicate this with either left click (goes to colour picker) or right click (does nothing). I know I can adjust the brush size with [ and ], but really like the size and hardness adjustment to be in the same motion. Is this possible? I'm really hoping to move from Photoshop to Affinity Photo, but would need to find a good workaround for the above to not have it significantly affect my efficiency.
  13. Hi, how can I please easily adjust Opacity and Hardness with tablet (Wacom Intuos Pro)? I would like to have on the wheel not only Brush Size (by [ ]), but also Opacity and Hardness of the brush.... If it was possible to set Keyboard Shortcuts for Opacity and Hardness, it would be OK, but in the shortcuts there is only the size Thanks Jindra
  14. Hello everyone! Do you know if there is a way to record changes made to brushes? It would be nice to be able to just click on a macro to set, for example, 120px, 25% opaque, 100% flow, 50% hardness. Best wishes, Shu
  15. It would be nice to have keyboard shorcuts for hardness, similar to the ones for opacity. E.g., Alt-5 sets the hardness to 50%, Alt-52 to 52%.
  16. I'd like to see hardness added to the flood erase tool in Affinity Photo. This way it would be possible to soften the edges up a bit (pretty much like the instant alpha tool in Acorn works).
  17. Can you please add Brush Hardness shortcut? (may be "Shift+[" and "Shift+]" like PS). It's very useful for Pixel Persona to create complex painting like my attached.
  18. There are any shortcuts for brushes available? I want to change witdth, flow, opacity and hardness without moving to the top toolbar. best wishes Marco
  19. I would LOVE to have a preference that would allow me to change the size of the brush using the scrolling of the mouse (rather than have it change the pan). Scrolling up and down would change the radius of the brush, and the same with an option key would change the hardness/softness of the brush. The brush radius is similar to what Aperture has, but Aperture doesn't have an option-scroll for changing the hardness. This is so much faster and smoother than using the keyboard it's ridiculous! After getting used to it in Aperture I hate using Photoshop - changing brush size interrupts the flow of painting.
