  1. Hello, i would just like to ask if you could confirm oder contradict my following impressions regarding the newest Affinity Photo for Windows on desktop PCs. Thanks for all input! Layers: thumbnail size in layers panel/studio cannot be changed layers can't be dragged between files no command to Expand Canvas so that all hidden layers are fully visible no command to crop uniform/empty canvas to actual content Raw module/persona: no button for auto contrast raw sharpening: no masking for sharpening (exclusion of finely detailed areas); no threshold slider no lens profiles (auto correction of distortions caused by known lens-camera combos), neither in Raw nor Photo module/persona (i see in the settings you can choose "Apply Lens Corrections") split view (before/after): the "before" view is unchangeably on the right side, the "after" view is unchangeably on the left side GUI: no built-in image browsing, no transfer of corrections from one image to many others no command to position two open files side-by-side (for comparison) no command Revert to Last Saved State (though doable via History panel) Photo module/persona: In the HSL correction, i have to chose a colour range like "Reds" in the menu. I can't pick that colour range by colour picker? So - are above features there or not? Thanks again!
  2. Hello, I have been waiting with excitement for the Affinity BETA to come out on windows. After opening Affinity, i was not convinced. I really got this "not bad" feeling.. This is because of 1 main issue; i don't like the user interface. Functionally speaking, its great. It beats photoshop in my opinion. But its not even close to what i had hoped for.. I am a big fan of "minimalism" and "flat" design, not just for its looks, but for the overall experience. I came accross a photoshop redisign made by Aurélien Salomon on Behance: https://www.behance.net/gallery/19600227/Photoshop-redesign This is how a modern and new photo editor app/program, in my opinion, should look like. Design is contantly evolving, so the tools that are used to create design should be designed with this in mind. My suggestion: create an user interface that works with templates. Give the user control of how Affinity looks like. What would be better then an editor that by itself gives inspiration to create more beautifull & smart designs?
  3. Hello, is it possible to let user change the global colors of the GUI in Affinity Photo and Designer (I'm under Windows)? Black (and very dark) colors are not always the best choice, and I personally hate those colors even when it has been introduced in Photoshop. I really would like to have to possibility to have a Dark and a Light GUI themes (using OS native theme for example). My eyes are getting too tired when using black colors. Regards
Wenn I open several JPG-Files simultaneously and then insert lineals affinity photo crashes each time. On the other hand when I start Affinity Photo, insert Lineals and then oen several JPG-files simultaneously the program ist stable.
  5. Only some small glitches when dragging some of the small windows to the edges of a screen. Made some videos to demonstrate it. 1.5.0.19 GUI glitches videos.zip
  6. Hi, first off, thanks a lot for developing these great applications. Finally someone is serious about highend 2D graphics and competing with Adobe (and software-as-subscription paradigm). When the Win beta was released I quickly gave it a quick test drive in a virtual machine (I am still on Vista). So I am not qualified to asses for example the performance etc. Anyway here are some of my observations/feedback: What could be improved: 1, There is no way to directly (in a viewport) select a certain locked object in order to unlock/edit it. You have to unlock everything. Huge disadvantage of unlocking everything is that the memory of what was locked is not retained. You will have to find and lock all the previously locked objects again which can be extremely tedious task. The alternative is finding the locked object in the layer palette, but if you have lots of objects (some of them locked) it becomes a nightmare. You cannot even find out the name of the locked object in the viewport (there is no indicator when you hover over it or click on it). Also there is no indicator in the viewport that the object is locked (other than that it is non-selectable). My suggestions: - A modifier key + click would allow you to select even locked objects (for example Shift +middle click). In addition to that an icon indicating a lock would appear near the object and allow you to unlock the object. - Or there could also be "unlock everything temporarily" button like Xara has (or something similar). It unlocks everything but will remember what was locked. You can manipulate objects etc. and when you click the button again it will lock the previously locked objects. With this tool you can easily find your locked object in a layer palette (to unlock it etc.) I made a simple example to demonstrate the problem and how other software deals with it - as an inspiration: The problem - you need to select the greenish-yellow triangle (which is locked) and you cannot afford to unlock all objects (otherwise you will lose the memory of what was locked/unlocked). So you have to search for the object in the layer palette. Good luck if you have lots of objects in the scene. This is how Illustrator (CS6 and maybe CC) and Affinity Designer works (problem demonstrated in Xara): Xara's "All objects/layers editable" aka "unlock temporarily everything" to the rescue. Now you can directly select the object and edit it. You can easily locate the object using "find" button. When you are done, lock the previously locked objects again using the same button: This gif shows how you can quite easily find and unlock a locked object (greenish-yellow triangle) using "All objects/layers editable" workflow. The state of other objects in the scene (locked/unlocked) remains unaffected. And you don't have to look for a needle in a haystack either: 2, The UI is too dark for me. Light version would be welcome (I know you are working on it ... I just wanted to let you know my opinion). Please consider adding as much customization options to the GUI as possible - even complete custom GUI skinning. Then everyone will be happy. I for one don't like the new "flat UI" trend (not that Designer has completely flat UI but it could be a little bit more "plastic"). I will expand on that later... I will post more suggestions (and praise) later... Best of luck with this project! I am looking forward to the released version. (Excuse my English)
  7. In some input fields that have a dropdown next to it, like in the "Character tab" under "Positioning and Transform" the first input field "V/A": you can click into the field the text in that field ("Auto") gets selected and highlited then click on the dropdown-button, it openes the dropdwon list if you now try to move the mouse down to select something from the dropdown-list, it will automatically close the dropdwon-menu
  8. Is it possible to change the colour of the GUI from black to white?
  9. There is a Mac OS X feature, both system-wide and in most third-party applications, which pop-ups the file path on command-click on a documents window title . – Sounds complex but is easy to use. – Unfortunately it does not work in Affinity. ( Hm, because of its window 'tab' concept? ) – Instead in Affinity a command-click on the window title does select an object on the Affinity document page/canvas. The competitor Adobe meanwhile lost this feature in many of its programs (no, not every) – A niche/advantage for Affinity? Even more: in OS X the user may scroll through such pop-up windows content to jump to a level in finder. For instance 2 screenshots:
  10. One thing I miss the most at first sight in Affinity Photo is "Hide Layer" keyboard shortcut. I use CMD+tilde. Also, having a layer visibility toggle to the right is awkward. I would prefer it to have it to the left.
  11. Note: Please excusemy poor english. There might be some errors but I hope you do understand me  Colors: Please provide the hexcode in every (!) color-dialog and all color-spaces to simplify copy of a special color Please offer a hover-info for exact color value in the "last used" color-fields Stroke: Please let the mouse focus on the width-slider of the stroke and let arrow-keys change the values (left/right = -/+1, up/down = +/-5). At this point a direct input of a value could lead to focus the cursor into the value-input field Guides: I´m not sure how to do it the best way but the guides-dialog is not smart. It is not possible to select a guide neither by clicking it in the layout nor to identify it in the dialog by selecting it with the selection-tool. So the user has to guess or estimate which guide-value could be the right one. GUI: I´m not sure if it is useful to separate dialogs into (studio-) dialogs and windows (like guides, typografy etc.). I am working with 2 monitors and like to dock all possible and useful dialogs on my 2. screen to have a proper working-bench on my prime-screen (which shows only tools and documents). To be continued… B)
  12. Hello! I am a mobile game artist and designer. I have always been using Illustrator, but have recently discovered Affinity and I am completely blown away by its capabilities and speed! I have the 10 day trial, but after everything I have seen and done with the program, I will be making the full purchase upgrade right after I am done posting this example. Here is just an peek of a couple ideas I have been playing around with, which eventually will be a fully usable and customizable GUI Asset Sheet for people to use in their own games and apps. This program is amazing, and I cant wait to dive a lot further into it! :) Thanks for your time.
  13. Hello all, I just discovered Affinity an hour ago through a reference on a Hungarian photo site. What grabbed my attention was: Photoshop alternative and for Macintosh. After just a few minutes of playing with it my first observations are: 1. I like the GUI very much. For me it's pleasing in setup, informative and not aggressive. I still have to get used to the new vocabulary. 2. The RAW developer, which I have tried with Nikon NEF and Olympus ORF is too harsh for my taste. Too much contrast there. I shall learn about the rest in the coming weeks. But thanks so far for a great beginning!
  14. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/561-gui-issue-effects-pane-open-many-v17832/?p=4574 : >> Ah, where is a useful place to write system information into a forum user profile? – Is it @ "Profile Feed" / "what's on your mind?" ? > We've not really thought about this. :( Would you tell/show us at least where/how users feed into "What's on your mind?" will occure?
  15. @matt, @andy, your reply in https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/560-selection-marqu%C3%A9-tools-constrain-aspect-ratio-and-slow-speed/&p=2336 does irritate me. I don't see any tool called "select" besides a various marque tools in pixel mode – whereas a beta mail mentioned "Select tool ... constrain aspect ratio" and matt asked/replied "I assume" concerning my initial question. Just in case Affinity has more than the the rich bunch of Marque Tools of pixel mode ("persona"? you might want to consider to define/name them accordingly in the later manual & online help. (compare 2 screenshots attached: "marque", "selection") (i'll check in next beta: marque: constrain aspect ratio – and let you know here)
  16. Whereas around 'beta 5' the autosave of windows obviously got realized ( https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/93-remember-window-size/&p=649 ), now in beta 1.0.17644 I'd appreciate to develope this feature a bit more: a.) Save window/palette/pane * settings customizable (by name, date etc) – and b.) Consider palette positions for document window in Separate Mode. Designers often work with two monitors and use one to place the document, the other to place palettes. Therefore it would be helpful to be able to save customized window settings with customized saves for various usage. Additionally the Separated Mode / document window could like an improvement: Momentarily in Separated Mode with palettes cusomized arranged the/ a new document window a.) has a fixed size and position and b.) appears to ignore the customized palette setting. Also, once you hit the mac-system green button (upper left corner), it simply fills the screen – regardless any palette * window. * [ ps: "palette" – to avoid misunderstanding: I dont mean a color palette like in the swachtes pane but any pane/palette/parameter/options window. ]
