  1. As it is for color, it would be useful to have a quick live preview gradient settings in the studio
  2. I want to create an effect of a radial color burst on top of my existing layers. It needs to be normal blending mode. and I want it to gradate from intense in the middle to transparent on the edges. How do I do that in affinity photo?
  3. Hi - I've been tinkering with Publisher and want to leave the current program I use, but am stuck on what's probably a simple solution. I'm trying to fill a rectangle and want the fill to transition horizontally like in the attachment, but I can only get it to vertically, blue on left, red in middle, yellow on right. I'm sure there's something very simple I'm missing, but I can't figure it out. In the program I currently use, there's an "angle" adjust to rotate the fill to any orientation I want. Thanks!
  4. When applying a gradient onto a fill layer, and you have accepted the adjustment and the gradient tool closes. Is it possible to reopen or select the gradient that has been applied to allow for further adjustment. As I am progressing through an edit I sometimes want to come back to the fill layer with the gradient applied and want adjust. At the moment I am deleting the original layer and re-adding. I am sure I am missing something obvious here. grateful for any help. i am using both the desktop and iPad versions.
  5. I cant get a purchased EPS file to open in Photo without losing all resolution. It looks awful. What am I doing wrong?
  6. Hi folks, I came across an issue when I was trying to copy a style across various shape sizes, and when I was using boolean expressions to change a shape which already had a bitmap gradient style applied. If I create an object, and then apply a style to it, duplicate this (boolean issue.png) and then change the shape of the object with boolean expressions it changes the way the style has been applied (boolean issue 2.png). If I create the object and don't duplicate, then use boolean expressions it keeps the same bitmap gradient (boolean issue 3.png) or if I change to curves and add/remove nodes it keeps the style the same as it should be (boolean issue 4.png). The original is on the left, the duplicated version is on the right, both had a 'Subtract' applied (boolean issue 5.png) Thanks
  7. Hey guys, I'm trying to make a black to transparent fading gradient, I drew a rectangle shape on 1/3 height of the page and use the transparent tool to click on bottom of the shape and drag to the top straight, midpoint set the standard 50% but on top of the shape, it appear to have noticeable edge and not completely fade to transparent and blend in to the background image, can you guys let me know how to settle this? I try to set the midpoint to 55% because I want the black are to be a bit higher and then make a second midpoint and set it to 45% and the edge don't noticeable much but because there's 2 midpoints, the gradient looks like a 3 bar with black, dark gray and light gray shading. And how do i make sure tire's no banding problem with amazon KDP print? Please help! Gradient Test.afdesign
  8. I was doing a graphic and at a certain point with the gradient tool I discovered this thing casually The gradient fill tool is to a stroke, and the gradient type is linear... How did I this?
  9. Stroke width goes by increments of 0.1 pt, which is very coarse (also degrees when rotating and shearing an object). This means I can't even go by quarters in AD because it requires 2 decimal places (if using decimals). I'd like to see this changed to maybe 5 decimal places or just using fractions (for things like exact thirds). Gradient controls only go in increments of 1%. I'd like to see this drop to maybe 0.0001% and maybe add different gradient interpolation modes (like easing, cubic, hold, 1-bit dithering, etc.) and more cool stuff. Please give us more control than what Illustrator gives!
  10. Hi there, I never worked with vector software so this is the first time and I'm not an expert pen tool user. I would like to export an EPS file but my first try was fail. I found tha answer in this forum if I using an FX that's rasterizing the layers. I would like to use correct a vector file. If I remove FX from the file the vector is working. But this FX was a gradient effect through the layers so affected to every object. But I don't know how can I replace the FX to something else. Because if I want to make a gradient that affects only one layer. If I want to use this gradient in every layer the gradients always starting the layers corners and not from the global position. If I make shape as a new color layer with the gradient, the gradient make a background instead of transparency. If I want to use clipping mask I have this very irritating auto fill problem: This tool has a same effect: I hope I was understandable. Thank you very much.
  11. Can I request a rotation option for the fill windows gradient tab. at the moment you can only apply a right to left or visa-versa gradient from there, to rotate the gradient you then have to go to the fill tool, not intuitive at all.
  12. Hey there, I am using Publisher now for some weeks and get really into it. A great plus is the not-lagging experience on large files I knew from Ado... A week ago I started a print project with Publisher and I have to set Logos from an agency. So I import the .eps files I need. But there is an error in importing the gradient used in this logo. Open the file in Affinity Designer shows the same bug. Open the files in Adobe Illustrator everything seems okay. For a self try I exported the files to .pdf, older versions of .eps to .svg but everywhere the bug (and on older versions of eps new bugs...) is still there. Copy paste from Illustrator to Publisher/Designer works often but in this special case not. Same bug result :-( What also is confusing to me is the fact, that the color also seems changing. You can see it on the attached image. The right gradient seems lighter than the original left one!?... Confusing I don't want to use png files in a high quality product also in case of possible cmyk color problems. Has somebody an idea how to fix this or how to make a workaround? Thanks a lot! Max
  13. Hi there, When I use the Linear gradient tool to create a new layer, choosing the first point colour as full opacity , black. The second point I set to 0% opacity. Logically speaking, this should result in a visual of dense black pixels, gradually 'fading' to transparent, but with Affinity Photo, it introduces gray pixels in the middle of gradient. This doesn't make any sense to me, and coming from Photoshop where this worked properly, I find it a bizarre way that its been implemented in AP. Am I doing something wrong? Please help. Thanks
  14. Hello, As a dataviz designer I often create the base of my works with SVGs on the web, so I can program the visual elements to be based on the data, then to import them into a vector tool for other adjustments. I've noticed that Affinity Designer doesn't import any SVG linearGradient / radialGradient nor patterns, which I do often use, so for now I can't rely solely on Affinity Designer sadly enough. (I copy the SVG element from the "Elements" section from the devTools in Chrome) I've attached a document that shows the import of the link below. All the inner curves that have a gradient in the online version are invisible (have no fill) in the import: https://bl.ocks.org/nbremer/raw/4de6f0a9d9d06373fc639e32e9c346cc/ For a radial gradient, you can try this: https://bl.ocks.org/nbremer/raw/e944485869ac8fd57413a158e9d8aae0/ which results in a no-fill circle being placed in Affinity Designer For pattern examples, you can try the following links that all are imported seemingly remaining invisible: https://bl.ocks.org/veltman/raw/57fbb830ba7e62caa46a82891168bc29/ https://bl.ocks.org/1wheel/raw/a8f39c8a96b71735488bf280d34bd765/ https://bl.ocks.org/veltman/raw/50a350e86de82278ffb2df248499d3e2/ I'm using Affinity Designer 1.7.1 on macOS Thank you! 15. Hi I'm working in Publisher - latest version. I'm just struggling to find a way to change a horizontal gradient for a fill to vertical. I created a rectangle and went to the Fill properties of that rectangle. Created a gradient by using the Fill box. Now I want to turn the gradient from horizontal (default) to vertical but I do not find any controls to turn the gradient - neither in the Fill properties box (like a circle controller) nor on the rectangle itself (like a control line). I found a circle controller on the fx Gradient overlay when I switch to Designer persona however now I have a horizontal AND a vertical gradient which was not the intention. Please give me advise how to simply turn the gradient fill in Publisher. Thanks Chris
  16. Hi folks, off the back of this tweet - https://twitter.com/maisum_thiago/status/1159216372683087874?s=19 regarding Aseprite and copying a small portion of a design and having it repeat within an object (or lined confines) I was wondering if it would be possible to have a similar effect within Designer? Would be a great way to mass fill objects with a polkadot or any repeating texture/fill, kind of like a quasi-brush. Thanks, Rori
  17. I'm on the latest version of affinity designer, and have created a lot of isometric illustrstions. However, if I export my artwork to svg (web preset), and open them in sketch app, all the gradients are getting converted to images. I switched back to affinity to inspect these gradients, and I found these are just linear gradients without any special filters. If use the same gradients without isometric plane, the svg out retains its vector gradients, but exporting these with the isometric shapes, it's producing raster images. Is it a bug? Any solution to it. Because i have to do a lot of rework in that case. And it's not just sketch, but my front-end guys also showed me the number of images it has. let me know if you have any solution to it. Thanks
  18. Since the early beta Versions I encounter very low rendering quality while exporting a setup with a gradient image and some overlays. If I just "print" it into a PDF it looks formidable so it is not a problem of PDF itself. It would be good to be able to export natively via the export option an not going via the print2pdf option. See files attached please. This happens in all PDF Quality Settings. Colorspace for Export and ICC Profile is "as in Document".
  19. This is a feature that has likely already been requested to be added, but I searched the forums and didn't notice anyone posting this same sort of request. In CC 2019, a REALLY nice gradient feature got added to Illustrator called the Freeform Gradient. The way you use it is you add different points for the gradient to follow. You can make them different colors, make gradient paths using points, and even adjust how much those colors spread from those points. Unfortunately, Designer doesn't have this feature yet and I would really like to see it implemented soon because it seems like such a nice way to make gradients. There are also gradient meshes, but it seems like Designer doesn't have these either, even though these seem a bit harder to work with on average. I don't use Illustrator currently, but I have in the past and I think Affinity Designer lacks some of the features that Illustrator does. There are a couple more things that I can think of that I don't see an option for in Designer, but there is one for in Illustrator. I can make 1 or 2 separate posts about those, though.
  20. This is a video of me talking about a couple of the problems with how Designer deals with color, and likely Affinity Photo as well. And this video should explain at least somewhat well why the gradients are too dark. If there are any Affinity devs active here, a response/acknowledgement of the problem/solution from them would be appreciated. Thanks! P.S. Shortly after I made this vid, I actually did go and buy AD. So I hope even more now that these problems get fixed. Like the point I tried to make in the video, would these issues really be that hard to program out? affinitydesignerproblem.mp4
  21. Please add an option to control eps format. AD rasterize all objects with gradient & transparency. PostScript level 3 is compatible with gradient, Illustrator or even Inkscape can export eps with gradient without rasterzing it. Also Illustrator can export objects with transparency as divided shapes instead of rasterizing it. Refer Illustrator's option panel
  22. Hello, I am unable to preserve an opacity gradient (transparency tool in designer) applied at the group level when exporting to svg format. With option "rasterize unsupported properties", I get a rasterize image With option "rasterize nothing", the gradient disappear Is it a some workaround ? Thanks for your help. gradient.afdesign
  23. Not sure it's a bug but here's what I tried : Open AD 1.7.0.364 bêta on Windows 10 and choose the sample "A" by Nora Toth Explore the layers and select the 1st Ellipse under A > Group > Letter A Try to add noise in the 2 points gradient: when I try it, the noise is not added and if I move the color on the palette to another one, the noise cursor is reset to none (same if the noise is existent > reset to initial value, impossible to remove it). Hope it helps, Best regards, Michel
  24. The gradient tool has gradually been improving. Thanks, folks! One last tweak suggested. Currently: Select gradient tool on left. Draw gradient. Default is white to grey. Ends up with grey node larger than white node as it has the focus. Just fine. Now want to change the grey colour, so select colour patch on context toolbar at top. I arrive at the Gradient tab. However, the left-hand white node is selected in the Gradient dialogue. So to edit the grey node, I have to re-select the right node. If this is not noticed, confusion results. If, however, I select the Colour tab, I can change the grey directly. Whether you go to the Gradient or Colour tab first is really a matter of policy. I'd be happy with either (though prefer Colour as it saves a little time and thinking). What really needs to be changed is that the node selected in the Gradient tab when you arrive there should be the same as the selected node in the drawn gradient.
  25. Using Affinity Publisher, I am having difficulty in applying a blended/graduated transparency effect to a color photograph. I'm trying to have a transparency blend to a white area on the bottom, but it keeps making my color photo become black & white. I'm using the graduated tool setting both colors to white/#ffffff and setting one end at 100% and the other at 0%. Can someone help?
