  1. When I use the FrameText Tool to prepare a text I do not see the text when the textbox is placed on the canvas. Only when the box will be removed into the page, the characters are visible. Now I need to make the other layers invisible to have a clear view. Is it possible to change this manner?
  2. Example: Create a frame text box and choose font Arial for it. Mark part of text and set it to Bold. Now change font for whole text box to Times. All local font attributes, like Bold, Italic etc. are reset to "regular". Please, look at it. Thanks
  3. I have created a doc with a number of text frames in a previous version of the beta. I'm now updated to v1.7.0.162. I have an issue with adjusting the Leading Override whereby the text does not change when the value is changed. It will only jump to between some of the values. I have created a screen video to demonstrate. I have also created a new doc after downloading the latest update and a text frame in this file works perfectly. This is also shown in the video (afpub_bug1) The other problem I am having with text frames is on my existing doc when I drag a frame around the text jumps like it is snapping to certain lines, even with snapping off. Meaning I can never align it to a pixel. In a new doc the text frame moves as expected and can be aligned fine (afpub_bug2). Either I have a setting set somewhere that does this or there is a bug from an earlier version of the beta that's carried itself over into the latest release. When copying the text frames from the old doc to the new one the frames work fine. afpub_bug2.mov afpub_bug1.mov
  4. Affinity Publisher Beta 1.7.0 on MacOS Mohave 10.14 Had been editing existing frame text and afterwards eventually found that the blue selection border was displaying regardless of what I did. Selecting other things or selecting/unselecting the frame text object does not help. Selecting a different layer does not help. Toggling UI does not help. Quitting the app and re-opening the Publisher file does not help. The only way I can get rid of the selection border is to turn the layer off, but it returns when I turn the layer back on. The border does not print; it's just distracting. I have not had this problem with any other file or frame text.
  5. I'm not entirely certain if this has already been covered in another thread, but I'm sorely missing the ability to automatically have text resized to fit the frame. This feature does exist in the PagePlus program, so I'm hopeful it's just yet to be implemented? As a side note, the closest reference I have been able to find to this type of feature in the Affinity forums is resizing the frame to the text, which was in an old feature request for the Designer beta. Needless to say, this is rather the opposite of what I would like to happen. Thanks for any feedback you can provide!
  6. In PP there is a facility to insert a variable in a text frame which displays the page number of the next linked frame or the page number of the previous linked frame (i.e., "continued on page n" or continued from Page n"j. This is an important tool when working with text the must span several frames. Is something similar available in Publisher? If not, I think it should be seriously considered, since manually adding the indicator, which probably involves creating a separate text frame, is rather cumbersome.
  7. Maybe this is in the pipeline with Affinity Publisher, but something I frequently seem to need is the ability give frame text a solid background colour. I currently do this by grouping a filled rectangle with the frame text in the layers panel. This works well until you apply a transparency which is also then applied to the text as well. So my request is to have the ability to change the formatting of frame text including the background (including transparency) and line style. It would also be useful for alignment purposes to have the option to see the frame of the frame text when viewing in Outline view mode when not selected.
  8. Hi guys, I am using the frame text tool, and I don't like the fact that I always have to double click the bottom middle handler to make the actual text field get as large as the text itself. Is there a way to have the text field resize to the text's height automatically? Thanks
  9. I apologise if this is a known feature or problem but I am stuck: I wish to create a block of text in the shape of a trapezium. When I use the default shape tool all works as expected with the margins of the text following the trapezium shape. However, I wish my shape to resemble a plastic coffee cup, wider at the top than the bottom. When I add frame text to the inverted trapezium it is displayed upside down and back to front. Is there a way of resetting the text entry to the top left and having it flow normally? I have tried to attach a screen shot of the problem. best wishes Simon
  10. Hi guys, When using Frame Text, is it possible to have it simply resize to the words content horizontally? Like simply keep one line, and have the text go as much as you want horizontally, without having to drag the text handler to make the frame wider, to avoid the text going on a new line. Thanks, Chris
  11. Hello everybody! I'm quite new and I was trying to find a way to put down a "feature request". Actually this place is both interesting and confusing, So I hope to do it right: I post here a feature request. It would be great to have the option to center text vertically. So, instead of being stuck in: I'm requesting something like: Would be great to have in the menu: Great work, by the way! Cheers! Jack
  12. How can I hide the bounding boxes of frame text elements, two of which are shown in magenta in the attached image? The boxes (not the text) come and go willy nilly. I would like to be able to hide them when I want to. I have looked all over and have not seen any mention of them whatsoever. Thanks, john OS X - 10.11.6 AD - 1.5.5
  13. Is there anyway to change frame text to artistic text (or the opposite) or must it be recreated?
  14. or Is there a way to turn Text Frames into Artistic Text. I am trying to quickly resize the frame to the text. Thanks!
  15. Of no great importance but I noticed that for both Art & Frame text blocks flipping them vertically results in upside down text, just as I expect. However, while flipping Art text blocks horizontally causes the text to be written backwards as if in a mirror, like I expect, doing that with Frame text has no effect except for flipping where the extra control handle to change text & frame size at the same time appears. Is this by design or just a minor bug?
  16. The "Frame text" help window states "Frame text can be created within rectangular (square) frames using the Frame Text Tool or within any curve or closed shape." but I cannot find any instructions of how to put Frame text in a closed curve or shape. Can I be directed to instructions or a tutorial that shows this Thanks
  17. It seems that if I have a frame text with effects applied if I resize the frame to make edits, the effects scale with it. I am not sure if this can be prevented. I only have a drop shadow applied but if I resize the frame after shadow is applied, the shadow shifts away from text.
  18. I have made the site names on the maps I've created in AD all with the frame text tool. However, many of those I imported from Illustrator are in rectangular text boxes but are artistic texts when I select them. A frame text is much easier to get out of (click outside the box and choose a tool = my own shortcut) but with artistic text I have to push esc a couple times and then select a tool. I often click outside (forgetting that the name is not a frame text) and then have to get back to where I was before. Earlier an AD moderator seemed to like my idea of making a click outside an artistic text work like it does with a frame text---and I hope that will appear in some update. In the meantime, is there anyway to change an artistic text to a frame text (either individually or globally)? I do not see this option in the bottom left of the Context Toolbar. To date I've simply been creating a new frame text and replacing the artistic box, but for thousands of names, that is a real chore. Many thanks. PS: All of my work with text anchored on a stroke must of course be artistic text, but any reason why my text within what appears to be a frame text rect is actually artistic text? Just wondering if there is any answer.
  19. Hi guys, I do not manage to change any of the attributes of the surrounding frame of any Frame text. I would like to have a background color and some more padding towards the border. The only way I managed to do so, is to use a formatted square and align artistic text over it. Is there a way to apply formatting to the frame of a fame text? Thanks Lars
  20. Hi I understand style essentially is fill and stroke so if i make a style i'm pretty much saving a colour. I know I can set up a text font size and leading and select it to be default and then when i create a new text frame I can paste without format and I think the leading and font size and color that i set as default should be applied. I am not sure if that applies across documents or not. It would be quite handy to set up a page with default headlines paragraphs and subheadings. I am not sure if its possible to take a paragraph font / leading style and apply it to another existing text frame. maybe if i set my default go to the existing box select all cut and paste without format. Something I am doing which isn't working very well. I have an existing pdf document with the text styles I want and affinity opens it quite well sometimes changes case on me but it does create text boxes from the imported pdf file. It does use the correct font and colour for each section. sometimes that might be 3 text types/styles in a single text box. I am trying to take these text styles from the imported pdf file and apply the layout to my new text frames. It seems to use the correct font but the leading is all wrong. E.g the original paragraph might be roughly 11 point text on 12 point leading but if I set the default from the imported text box I seem to get the right font but the font will be 11 point on 11 point leading. Not the approximately 12 point leading that I was expecting. Is there anyway i can recover the formatting from the imported pdf file or do I have to create something similar from scratch. Still beating indesign it can't open a pdf file at all :)
  21. Hey guys, I'm trying to make a text frame that covers the entire document, from upper left corner of the document to the lower right corner. I have every option checked in the snapping panel. Snapping works fine when clicking the first corner of the text frame at the upper left corner of the page, but when I drag to size the frame towards the opposing page corner, AP doesn't snap to it. So I have to switch release the shape and then resize it to snap at the corner. It's not a biggie, but I just thought you should put it on your list of bugs to fix. Cheers!
  22. Granted it took Adobe something like 20 years to put this feature into Illustrator, so I'm not expecting this to appear overnight, but is there a way to convert between these two kinds of text types?
