  1. I'm another user facing the same issue as this person. I'm currently facing the EXACT same problem. i tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but its not helping. Af Photo worked perfectly before the current update. One thing to note is that designer updated properly. when i opened the designer software, it said update available and then i just downloaded and updated. But when i opened photo , it did say new update and i downloaded - but when i try to install it, the only option it game me was REPAIR AND UNINSTALL and not update like Designer did. im not computer savvy other than using these softwares. so i said repair. then i opened photo, and all my fonts go missing - exactly like the gentleman in the link above - exactly. the thing is im trying to figure the windows part of it, but the issue will not even let me open CMD prompt, so i cant fix it on my own. When i restart windows everything is back to normal. all fonts are fine. when i open photo everything goes bad and the fonts disappear. so this issue clearly has something to do with photo. my laptop is fine, no issues with anything ever, i use it for very basic things like office and sometimes i use designer and photo. i didn't install or do anything funny with the system other than update / repair the photo software. guys, please help...
  2. I created a Word document with a lot of different monospaced fonts so that I could compare them. I then tried to use some of the same fonts in Affinity photo, but found that the weights were nothing like the weights displayed in Word. For instance, Cascadia Mono SemiBold and Cascadia Code SemiBold are not even offered as options in Photo (only regular and italic are offered). Meanwhile, ordinary Cascadia Mono is much heavier in Word than in Photo, where it is little more than lines, rather than shapes. What is going on?
  3. Hi @Sean P We had this issue resolved on Ipad a couple days ago and now it is happening again - but I resolved it while typing this. So going to explain and hope this helps the development team. I redid the same fix you asked last time: - save project on ipad - import from cloud to open it again - and nothing worked. - now if I delete a font off of affinity designer ipad and then reload it back on it fixes ALL projects that glitched. Like all of them. So it's very strange how this glitch connects to everything. I did fix it, but again.. want to help with any information. xo - Leslie
  4. Hi. I'm a Japanese user of Affinity Designer only on iPad(6th gen, iPadOS14.7.1). I noticed most of all the characters I put on my design were broken those are installed by AnyFont app (existing on AppStore). Specifically those are Japanese free to use fonts. However the issue seems only on designer 1.10.0, other apps seemed to be able to handle those fonts. I could install some of the fonts directly on Designer and those were working. Are those iPadOS issue or Affinity Designer's bug? If those were bugs, are there any solutions? thanks.
  5. Currently I've been Downloading Fonts And Other assets onto my mac so That I can have a wider arsenal of resources. I was just doing a design for one of my friends and realized I couldn't find the font I just downloaded, I Thought it'd be amazing if there was little folders of some sort within the app that'll differentiate the downloaded "user" fonts, and the fonts that The computer you are using comes with, for better organization. even though i've never seen this feature on any other apps or software, is there a way you could implement this?
  6. Would be awesome if there were font folders in the font picker, it would save a lot of time. Users could organize fonts, so they don't have to look longer time for some font they don't remember the name of.
  7. I've used Suitcase to remove extraneous fonts from my user library but there's still a great number of fonts remaining in the system that show up in the drop down of Designer. Is there some way to manage the fonts in that menu option? I know I can limit the number by placing some in a favorites category but I'd like to have the general drop down exclude all the irrelevent options.
  8. I have created three new fonts. I made all the glyphs using Affinity Designer, exported them to SVG, which I imported to FontForge to make the fonts. I made the fonts to work with each other. So it is possible to duplicate some text in Designer and give each layer a different color and different one of the three fonts, and you can get some interesting effects. The first one is called Open Air Duct and looks like this (over some path drawn in Affinity Designer), The second one is derived from the first one and is called Open Air Window: And the third one is called Open Air Wall: The nice thing about them is that the same glyph in all three fonts has the same outline, width, left and right bearing, as well as kerning. Thanks to that, we can just duplicate the same text, assigned different colors to each and stack Open Air Window above Open Air Wall, and Open Air Duct above both, and the result can be quite nice: I have uploaded all three fonts to https://github.com/Pantarheon/OpenAir, where anyone can download them from.
  9. I'm waiting patiently for Affinity Publisher on iPad. Tonight I learned that iPad OS doesn't provide a font installer or a character map/glyph picker. I hope Affinity will fill these gaps, because when Publisher is released, designers will need their fonts.
  10. A few issues I have seen in this version and the previous: 1. Backspace doesn't backspace. It just returns to the previously used paragraph style. 2. Text seems to randomly resize itself. Example attached. When I finally resized the text on the left, the text on the right resized itself. Suggestions for improvements: 1. On the pages panel, maybe consider using the pages numbers of the book, and not the project, Eg : the document might say page11, but the book page numbering is only on page 5. 2. In the section manager, take away 'Section 1, Section 2,' etc. naming. It can be confusing when the book has chapters. 3. Please create an 'Indesign book' like workflow. It makes working on chapters MUCH easier.
  11. Hey there, I am currently having an issue importing IDML files into Affinity Publisher that is bugging me a lot. I have been working on a document for quite some time now in InDesign and want to continue work in Publisher. So, I exported the file as IDML and imported it into the Affinity software. My problem is that all font sizes are wrong now. E.g. a text with 11 pt font size which fitted perfectly into its frame in Design will now not fit into the frame at all since the font size is way too big. Am I overseeing a conversion step or something? I would be thankful if you guys could help me out here Thanks a lot!
  12. Not sure if this is a bug or as featured on Publisher 1.9. Recently I updated my collection of Open Sans font by Google (So I use the last official and clean version). As I open a Publisher document, now i'm greeted with a message about Open Sans Regular being missing and it shows as that in preflight. No issue here, i go to font manager and select Open Sans Regular as replacement font. But keeps asking for the original Open Sans and it seems not to register the font substitution. This is not happening with any other Open Sans Style and, if I recall correctly, when i replaced other open sans styles and other fonts in general, it gets updated correctly and never ask for it again. Is not a life threatening issue. Open Sans is correctly used but the message and the error in the preflight is annoying.
  13. I just wanted to let everyone know that Monotype, the creators of FontExplorer X, told me via a tweet that they definitely have Affinity products on their radar for integration. This is really good news, however as with all software development they have not been able to provide a timeline. I recommend that everyone who wants font activation and enjoy using FontExplorer X as much as I have over the past 10 years, should contact them and let them know there is a huge community wanting auto font activation. It's such a pain to do it manually. See below. @nathan_ford @monotype This is definitely on our radar, and we agree that Affinity apps are impressive. Thank you for your input, Chris! 2/27/20
  14. Hello! I just bought the Vintge Font Bundle! It’s brilliant! But I can’t quite fathom out how to achieve the uphill curvy slant (as seen being used on the Blackriver and Old Alfie fonts). Thankyou!
  15. I cannot write the letter "u" in Affinity with the font "EB Garamond". It is always replaced by "v". In Pages, oddly enough, the font works fine, so I don't think it's the font itself. Does anyone have any idea if there is a setting for this?
  16. Which PDF setting renders body type the best? I regularly produce a 26 page brochure using Affinity Publisher. NONE of the AP PDF settings would render really crisp small type. The closest I got to an acceptable result was creating my own custom settings with No Downsampling. It is acceptable, but not really crisp (see the page sample I have attached to this question). I hate to say it, but the PDF renderings I used to get with InDesign were always crisp. I think that is because InDesign PDF's included a setting option to "Include All Fonts". What can I do to make sure all fonts are included with my AP PDF's? Is there something I am not understanding? Can anyone help me please? — FYI, I am using a MacBook Pro with 27" Apple display. 17. Hi, I have a company font, which I can use in almost all MacOS applications. When I use this font in one of the Affinity applications, the characters are replaced by a default font. See attachments. How to resolve this? Br, Jaap
  18. Hi, can anyone write by brand in this style? Will pay for the work. Lee
  19. This is the second time I am writing about terrible support for Khmer fonts in the Affinity suite. The first time I wrote, I provided sample fonts and images to show how the fonts are supposed to be rendered. AD and AP still do not have it corrected. I have up to this point been a fanboy for Affinity products, telling lots of people about Affinity. Yet the over the course of many and major updates, this problem, which is a show-stopper for my using Affinity, has not been corrected. And I know others in this forum have requested this problem be fixed as well. As a Khmer speaker, I am still willing to provide any support or files needed to facilitate fixing these bugs. Here is my previous topic that I posted in the forum. It was nicely marked (pre-1.7), and yet 1.7 has not fixed the issue. Thanks. Adam EDIT: I am working in MacOS Mojave.
  20. Hi, I have lots of fonts and it slows down the startup of Affinity Photo and designer, because every time it is loading all fonts. Is there anything I can do to speedup things besides deleting fonts? Regards & Thanks, David
  21. Hi guys. I need an advice. I know there is no such a thing like "Faux Italics" or "Faux Bold" in Affinity products. I tried to find the way how to push Photo to do that... and there is way. ITALICS: In Character - Positioning and Transform there is an option Shear to slant selected text = set an angle. BOLD: Add the stroke to selected text Fine, it works, I could do it manually so let's make some macros and set couple of possible options which I can use in the future. I was able to record the macros for both, even for combo "faux bolditalic". It's not a rocket science, macros are really simple 1 or 2 steps. But it might helps you, guys... or inspire you to play with macros and set some other interesting text styles And my question is: Is there any other, more elegant way how to do this kind of trick? Edit: I uploaded macros for you FauxBoldItalics.afmacros
  22. What are color fonts? They are the next big thing in graphic designThey bring multiple colors, shades, textures and transparency to type They include vector shapes, bitmap images or even both into font filesAnything I write here, would just be copying from this website, http://www.colorfonts.wtf/ Have a read through it, then decide if you want colour fonts. I know, that I want it!
  23. Hello, I'm working with Affinity Photo 1.8.6 on a Mac running OS 10.14.6 I have the 'Symbol' font installed in the operating system (ie Font Book.app). It's a standard font that always comes with the operating system and is used for greek symbols/letters. Here's a snapshot In all other applications I'm using (e.g. Microsoft Word), the Symbol font is working just fine. In Affinity Photo, the Symbol font does appear in the drop-down font menu when I select "All Fonts" as the category. However, if I type some text, highlight it, then select "Symbol" from the drop-down menu, it doesn't work. Instead, an exclamation mark appears in front of the font name, and on the canvas the Symbol font is not displayed: So somehow it seems that Affinity Photo is having problems accessing this font? Is there any way to fix this? Thanks !
  24. A problem I run into every time I make the simplest poster.... I come up with a dozen fonts I like and I want to quickly compare them in my design and switch back and forth. How do I do this?? I always end up writing a phrase out on a new doc and setting all the different fonts to compare. Ridiculous. Is there a way to make a font set in Affinity so I can quickly compare??
  25. Affinity Photo & Designer 1.8.3 (App Store installed) macOS Mojave 10.14.6 On my MBP either program was unable to open any editable file from anywhere on the file system nor could it save a new file that was created, resulting in a warning of "Permission Denied." However, on my Mac Pro, everything worked just fine. After some research someone said it was related to the number of fonts installed on the system. I confirmed this case by reducing the number of fonts to match my Mac Pro on my MBP. MBP had 2,800 fonts and the MP had 2,300 enabled. Also, an interesting side note, Publisher which I've purchase direct instead of the App Store had no problems with 2,800 fonts. No other program is affected by the number of fonts enabled, this bug should be fixed.
