  1. Hello, I would like to propose a feature request so that one can easily manage which font collection (NSFontCollection) are available in the list of fonts. The main purpose would be to hide all unwanted fonts from the font list in Affinity Designer. Thanks.
  2. Within Affinity Designer 1.5.4, I opened an Illustrator CC (.ai) file that was saved with PDF content. Within the "PDF Options" dialog, at the bottom it said I had a missing font (a Japanese font). I clicked on the Replacement Family popup but could not find the font so I just clicked the Open button. The document opened with all text that used that "missing" font converted to a generic font. I then choose the Text tool and selected some of that text, and I then clicked on the Font popup in the upper left. Low and behold, there was my "missing" font within that popup. Selecting the font made the selected text look normal again, albeit with messed up kerning. So wouldn't you say this be a bug? For truly, if the font is really there (and since I proved that after opening the file), the very fact Affinity Designer said the font was missing seems like a bug to me. I now have a related question. In Illustrator whenever this sort of thing happens, after I open a document I can then easily click on the Type menu and choose "Find font..." That opens the Font Font dialog which gives me an at-a-glance overview of all the fonts in the document, showing me which is missing (if any). I can then quickly and easily choose a font to substitute from the bottom half of that dialog, and with a mere click of the "Change All" button, I can substitute my replacement font throughout the document. How does one accomplish that using Affinity Designer? Surely there must be an easy way to tell Affinity Design how to substitute fonts throughout a document? Thank you.
  3. Hello, sometimes i download some material from https://creativemarket.com/but i can not use anything in Affinity Designer, what can i do, that the downloaded file will work in Affinity Designer? Thanks for Help (sorry my english is not the best ;-) )
  4. I bought Affinity Photo and Designer and want to support a great competitor to Adobe. I have run into a problem .. I wonder if you can help? I have an original design in Adobe Illustrator format - attached. backprop_error_example2.ai I have an export to PNG from Adobe ... also attached. Then I have a PNG export from Affinity Designer after it loads the AI file - also attached. You can see that: the quality of the text rendering is not as good the colours are not accurate (see the big rectangular blocks) the brushes (object outlines) are not that accurately reflected, they are too "heavy / bold" When importing I made sure "favour editable text over fidelity" is NOT ticked. I want fidelity. Not sure what this actually dees. On export I selected Lanczos not bilinear to improve partially the rendering. Some have said elsewhere that text should be converted to curves .. which I don't really want to do .. but as a test I did. The image is attached. converting text to curves (Layer -> Convert to Curves) then exporting as PNG has no significant effect. Any ideas? Going forward I'd like to start new designs with Designer but unfortunately I have a legacy of AI files and I need their output to be consistent with previous exports. Thanks in advance.
  5. Hai I confused when selected a font (let's say HELVETICA), the highlight font doesn't start from helvetica. i must scroll down if the helvetica font choosen start from A-Z font.. I want the font start from H (helvetica choosen)
  6. Hi! I am new to the Affinity forum, and also to the programs, but I seem to have found a problem no one posted yet, and it would be important for me to be solved (or for me to be shown a solution). I want to import a .pdf file, that was written by whatever software, and it contains texts, that were neither rasterized, nor converted to curves (outlined). When I open the .pdf in Adobe Reader, it shows all fonts as they should be. When I import it in Photoshop, it is able to rasterize the fonts correctly. When I import the .pdf file in AP it asks me what to prefer: keeping texts (and losing font properties), or losing texts (but keeping graphics unchanged). This button does not seem to do what it proposes to do. I do not need to edit texts, but I need the opened graphics to look exactly like they do in Adobe Reader, so I opened with the "favor editable text over fidelity" unticked (and also "replace missing fonts" option unticked). Yet the opened graphics is full of editable texts, and the missing fonts are replaced. Do you know about this issue? Is there a solution planned? Am I doing something wrong? (I attached the file that I tried with. Enough to import the first page.) Thank you for your answer, and sorry if I violated any forum guidelines, let me know what to do differently next. Best Regards, Tamás Handbook_For_Facilitators_Learning_To_Learn_June_2012.pdf
  7. Hey guys, Since the 1.5.1 Designer update, I've had a problem with the font drop down menu when using text. It seems that a new feature causes the font that I'm hovering over to appear at the top of the recently used list. However, the font previews in the drop down are different sizes, so when they appear at the top of the list, everything gets shifted, and it has become impossible to choose certain fonts, simply because of the other two fonts they are between. Very frustrating! Does anyone have a fix? Is it possible to make the preview sizes the same, or eliminate this feature? Is there a preference menu for the font drop down list? Please see photo attached and notice the font with a check mark near it, but it is not included in my recently used. :( Thanks!
  8. I would like to curve my font around clip art or pictures when making certain designs for logos and T-shirts, but I can't find where or how to do this. Please tell me it is possible and tell me what I am missing and how to do it. I am looking to curve up, curve down, bridge up and bridge down and circular Thank you, Scott
  9. Why I am in the affinity designer to view or scroll to select the font will be particularly slow. Prior to this, my computer installed 7000 + fonts, has removed the 1000 +, but the situation still did not improve, why not do a search font function? Just type the name of the font in the font display. In addition, the Chinese font can not display the Chinese name, only show the English name, this point when you can improve it? Translated from Google.
  10. Hello, I was trying to create a button using symbols and each buttons has different labels, so what I did is I disabled sync for the text and re-enabled it again once I'm done updating the text content I then tried to change the font family of the text but the change is not being sync to the buttons I updated. Is there a way for me to re-sync the text layer again so that if I need to update the font family I won't have to do it for every buttons..kinda defeat the purpose of using symbols if I can't do that. Thanks!
  11. Hi, Maybe it's dealt with, but I found that pulling down the font selector to set a font for an asset on the left of the screen is unhelpful in that it covers the very object you're trying to change. This removes some visual feedback and requires making sure the object is not on the left hand side before pulling down the font menu. I'm not quite sure it's fixable without a lot of effort, though, as you need to move either the object or move or shorten the font menu so it doesn't cover the text field you're trying to set. It's not exactly a major issue, more itch-level annoying :) Cheers!
  12. Firstly, thank you again for Affiinty Designer. I'm really loving designing in it and how the features are growing! One thing which I would find really useful would be able to increase fonts by a single unit. I know that you can already use the up and down arrow keys for that, however you have to click out of the box for the new size to take effect. So, either please can the font scale as the units increase / decrease, in the same was as it does with the dropdown or can we have little up and down clickers next to the dropdown selector. Thanks. And, yes I created the very rough mockup in AD :D
  13. Can you please add copy-pasting to/from Fontlab to Designer? I can copy/paste from Illustrator, but Fontlab 6 is way better for creating fonts. I can copy/paste from Illustrator to Fontlab and back again, and I can also do the same going between Designer and Illustrator, but it doesn't work between Fontlab and Designer. This is really unfortunate as I'd like to REPLACE Illustrator with Designer, but can't because of this workflow inhibitor. http://www.fontlab.com/font-editor/fontlab-vi/
  14. A few days back I was using Affinity Designer (Windows), designing a logo and modifying a pre-existing font to suit my needs when it hit me. I wanted to design my own font/fonts! I searched the web to find a program that might be good for this, but all the programs on the market didn't look too amazing. The interfaces looked clumsy, unappealing and even though I am sure that they are good, I felt as if they were limited and always needed a separate program to complement them for their lack in one area or another. In most of the videos and tutorials I watched, people tended to use Adobe Illustrator to make the letters and then import the paths into the font editor. So I thought to myself; "What if Affinity Designer would have a font editor built into it, or a stand-alone software that would have the amazing interface of Affinity Designer and its ease of use?". So my suggestion is, that it would be AMAZING to have/buy an extension for Affinity Designer to be able to edit and export fonts! I do know that it is not "just" programming an extension/add-on of that sort to Affinity, but I can't imagine it being too difficult either. I mean you have all the tools that are needed for the job and the extra "specific" tools for font editing could perhaps fit under a new persona in the upper left? A font persona. That would make Affinity even more of a killer software! It would be nice if you guys considered adding this. I mean I really like Affinity Designer and I will most likely buy it on release, but I would also love to buy a font editor from you since I know that you would make it easy and fun to work with!
  15. The Text Height field in the character panel could be more convenient if it was a +/- field instead of a pure dropdown menu. It's also not possible to change the values of any of the fields by more than +/- 1 by keyboard arrow input. If you press your arrow more than once your selected artwork starts moving up and down instead of the value of the setting. Thanks so much for this great piece of software and please never turn into an evil company like Adobe ;)
  16. I'm sure there is a simple answer, but can't find it anywhere: how can I make font size of text inside a group scale proportionally with the group?
  17. Hello, I'm using Affinity designer, and I created my own logo now is my question is it legal to use the font (Copperplate) in/as my logo with commercial background? Thank you for your attention to this matter! :)
  18. It would be a huge advantage if we could search fonts not only by a first letter. It's achievable if the font selector will be replaced by an autocomplete solution like:
  19. I would love to see a special font module in Affinity designer that allows you to assign a object to a letter, for example you could ink the letter 'F' and then assign it to capital 'F' to a new or existing letters collection. Then in any affinity document you can select the font to instead source from the collections and the selected text will be converted to collections font that you created. It will operate just like a normal font minus that any modifications to to the original selected collections file font will be displayed as a live preview. It could work very similar to how swatches works with collections and you would be able to take the collection font file and work in it on another computer or device using affinity. And finally when you are happy with the font that you can export directly into a TTF OTF or Webfont. I have included a rough basic concept idea for the on display information and selection of letter by letter collections handle.
  20. Hi, i took a look to the devs roadmap, so i know it's full and i'm really waiting for that warp/distort tool ;) . But maybe one day you'll have the time to think about that : As a web designer, i'm using iconic fonts (like fontello sets of fonts), and i also use a font manager (of course). I've seen that i can put characters in the assets panel after copy/paste them from my font manager to my layout on affinity. So then i can reuse it afterward and that's pretty cool ! (as i can skip the copy/paste process), and i'm sure you know those fonts come with a stylesheet which name every characters... And your assets panel have a wonderful feature : search-box. So the idea is to be able ton import an iconic font (the all 2000+ in one clic gaahhh...) , with it's stylesheet (naming characters) et be able to use and search directly in affinity... Aannnd maybe, the coolest thing of all would be to be able to export the finished layout with it's iconic font (using only the few characters used in the design) with it's stylesheet up to date. Hope i'm clear enough ! Thx again , you rock guys i love your work as an old Firework user (finally switching) ! Cheers ! Bento
  21. Hi Folks... I have asked this question on the apple support forum but have not received any guidance. I thought I would try here... I have been using AD on an iMac in my office. I was sent a font set by another designer to complete some work, successfully loaded it on to my iMac, and got the job done. I have since acquired a Macbook Air which I also use AD on while out of the office. I would like to get or copy or move?? the above mentioned font set from my iMac to my MacBook Air. Is there a way to do this? Thanks in advance.
  22. I know I have inadvertently done this in the past but now that I want to --- I can't figure it out. IE; I am creating a design to print on fabric that is sort of a word toss of a child's name in several different fonts. My plan was to make each font for "jane" a different layer but may want to change that particular font/name to ' john' and when I change one it will change all those names in that font at the same time ---- I would appreciate the help. Thanks
  23. Hi, i was wondering, if there was a way to import an iconic font direcly into the assets panel to use the icons directly from it, than using my font manager to copy and past the characters i need. Like for example i oftenly use Fontello iconic fonts (in one single exported font of more than 2000+ characters) and i can paste them one by one in a text box on Affinity Designer, then i can drag'n'drop them in the assets panel. But as i said ... thats more than 2000 characters so... Is there a way to do it all in one action? Thanks again ! Bento
  24. Every time I open a pdf generated by matplotlib, Affinity Designer asks me to replace fonts, then thing look different. I tried following the instructions here to use True Type fonts, but it doesn't fix the problem. Attached file was generated with fonttype=42, and it still tries to replace the fonts. difference_normalized_absorption_moving_avg_font42.pdf
  25. I can't get the font dropdowns to work. Even the font size dropdown. I can't click anything and the highlighting is broken. When I click a dropdown option, it either does nothing, or the dropdown disappears and the text font goes back to the old font. Also the up and down arrow keys don't work. The font selected just moves the the topmost option when using the arrow keys.
