  1. In the Sources Window for the Focus Merge, the Toggle Sources Preview eye does not toggle between grey and white (i.e. preview off and preview on). While AP does functionally toggle between preview on and preview off on source images, the eye is always white, never grey. This makes it difficult to know if I'm in preview mode or not on a source image. This also occurred with the previous version of AP. Windows 11, Surface Pro 8, Affinity Photo ver 2.2 Thanks Gary
  2. Good Morning, my question is regarding the sources panel when working on a focus merge. I have created a new focus merge without any issue. I saved the document as .afphoto. When I open the document again I can bring up the sources panel using View => Studio => Sources. But the sources panel is empty. Is it possible to reload the images used to create a focus merge to continue editing the focus merged image, or do I have to finish editing the final focus merged image prior to saving the document? Many thanks for your support, Regards, Michael
  3. Another one. The clematis flowers have all started going to seed, and some of the heads are getting quite fluffy. I'd intended to make another merge or two, but the camera battery ran out! Technical stuff: Canon EOS750D camera, Canon EFS 60mm (96mm equivalent) macro lens, f/2.8, ISO 1600 (because I forgot to set it to 100 before i started!); thirty photos. I have the camera set to save CR2 (Canon Raw) and jpeg; for quickness, I made the first merge from the jpegs straight out of camera then adjusted white balance and vibrance, saved the afphoto file, then reduced the size and ever so slightly sharpened the image. (For some reason I get an error trying to upload the first file, but this slightly compressed version works.) Although I set the white balance and vibrance to give what i thought was the same result, as you see the two pics are quite different. I think I prefer the first one, but that's just me. And maybe a more contrasting background next time?
  4. Hi guys Focus merge is just not much working for me right now, so bad that I started to think it must be me. However, after spending about an hour with this and re-doing the stack multiple times, I am still getting nowhere. So I decided to create a topic. Happy to be told I am an idiot. If I just can get this image properly stacked, I need it urgently. Here my setup: Dell XPS8930 Nvidia 2060 GPU Windows 10 Pro, 21H1, latest patch level 19043.1348 Affinity Photo 1.10.4.1198 (latest version as far as I am concerned) What am I trying to do: Focus merge 14 TIFF images, RAW developed in DxO Photolab 4 It kind of works but have multiple issues Issues: Issue No 1.: There is a blurred line at the bottom of the image even tough there is enough in-focus material to produce a top to bottom sharp image. (see image 1) To see if I can improve the qualityOriginal Files.zip, I went to Sources and toggle source preview. Issue No 2.: If I click and select an image at the bottom of the stack, it always jumps somewhere into the middle of the stack and I struggle to see what I actually have selected (see image 2). Issue No 3.: Even though I cannot see it anymore, it still seems to keep its selection however. So if I toggle the source preview, a white page appears when I have selected the very bottom image. It is as if this image hasn't been used. If I choose the second from the bottom, it works as expected (see image 2). If I use Issue No 4: If I select/toggle images from the top of the stack, they show strange artefacts around the edges, something that clearly is not present in the original images (see image 3). The lower I go in the stack, the less pronounced the artefacts are. To make it easier to replicate the problems, I have attached my original images. Thanks very much for your help. 5. Dear Affinity Users, I'm heavily struggling to combine 3-off images consisting of a focus merge, a dark exposure for the sky and a stack to smooth the water in the final image. I created the focus merge and the stack separately. The dark exposure for the sky is a single image. I managed to create a prelim image using blend ranges but I'm losing sharpness in the foreground. I would like to maintain the sharpness in the foreground. Is there any clever method on how to combine a focus merge and a darker exposure for the sky? I tried it manually as well with manual image alignment and masking but the result was not satisfactory. All images were shot with the camera on a tripod. Thanks in advance for any help, Regards, Michael
  6. Hi, Can you add MP4 as an import option for source files for focus merging? Panasonic now use this format for the focus merging and post-focus options in their Micro4/3 cameras. I have attached an example in case you need any test data. P1010128.MP4
  7. I'd like to suggest the option to disable align merge sources for the Focus Merge tool. Some modern cameras, such as the Fujifilm X-T4, have in-camera focus bracketing and all my images come out aligned (unless, of course, some outside force moves the camera or subject). I primarily use Helicon Focus and when I have align sources enabled then it, too, takes a very long time. Affinity Photo is taking somewhere between 25-30 minutes for 73 photos. This is rather long considering some stacks are close to 200 images. Helicon Focus was able to stack the same images in about 5 minutes. I understand that Affinity Photo isn't primarily an image stacking application, as is Helicon Focus, but 20-30 minutes is a bit too long and, I feel, the aligning of the photos is partly to blame.
  8. Hi, I am working on an iMac running Big Sur version 11.3.1 with the Affinity Photo Desktop version 1.9.3 and am having a problem with Focus Merge. I ran a few different Focus Merges on RAW image files earlier today with no problems. Then I ran a focus merge of 35 raw images of 43MB each and this time I am getting a blur on the left side and bottom of the output composite. When I look at the source files (where the left side of the original image is in focus) the source images show a weird corruption of the left and bottom edges just where the composite is blurred. There is nothing wrong in the original RAW image files that I used to generate the Focus Merge so the problem is created during the Focus Merge process. I have tried this particular Focus Merge (quitting AF in between trials and selecting the same RAW images) now 3 different times with the same result. I will include 3 screen grabs to illustrate the issue: one of one of the original RAW images I used, opened in Affinity Photo to show that there is nothing wrong with the file - one of the output of the Focus Merge showing the composite with blurred edges - and the last revealing one of the source images with the strange corruption. I hope you can fix whatever bug caused this problem. Many thanks, Sandi PS - out of curiosity, once I had the Focus Merge output, I wanted to open one of the original image files in Affinity Photo in a second tab to see that that file was fine but once I did, clicking back on the tab where the Focus Merge output was, I lost access to the panel with the source images. I could not find out how to bring that window of the source images back.
  9. Hi all I've found that when focus merging in Photo, if I focus merge raw files (CR2 from a 80D in this case) the merged result is substantially darker than if I do the merge from the JPG files I captured at the same time as the RAWs. I can also use the batch function to make JPGs out of the RAW files and use them for a merge and it's exactly the same, the RAW one is several stops darker than the JPGs I got from those raw files. It doesn't give me any develop options so I'm stuck using JPGs. This has happened in every version of AP I've tried, including 1.9. Any ideas?
  10. Would be nice if keyboard operation(or mouse wheel) is available so no need to click each time that's little pain when retouching the image.
  11. Now that Affinity Photo is using the GPU in 1.9, I'm getting errors which are probably due to this change. The first time I was trying to stack images, I was running another program, DxO's PhotoLab 4. which also uses the GPU. I had various results: a hang (had to reboot), a hang (was able to kill the program), a black screen that reset and sometimes odd results. And sometimes it works. I just tried the same focus stack three times, once with PhotoLab 4 open but inactive and one without but with Affinity Publisher open, and one with neither program. Twice I got incorrect results. The third time, I got a black screen and the program hung (I was able to kill it). It might work if I reboot after using PhotoLab 4. I've attached examples of the two focus stacks (the results ought to be identical). Here's the info for my graphics card. I did install the latest driver before checking all this. 12. When I stack raw files, the right hand side of the final stack is stretched and distorted. The left hand side and central area is ok. This has happened with every stacked raw file, but doesnt happen with jpegs. I have tried stacking the same images in two other packages with no problems. When I save the image and then re-open it there is no problem. I had rejected several perfectly good images before realising it. This is an intermittent fault.
  13. Hello Forum, I am posting this because I searched on "Microscopy" "Entomology" and "Focus Stacking" and saw few if any results, I may be in a minority?...... Having spent many years perfecting Microscopy with Entomology and recently converting from a well know rival, I was impressed with the power of Focus stacking within Photo. These two images were taken with modest equipment and a Canon 50d digital SLR dating from 2008 and a Brunel MX1 Stereo Microscope with 1x Objective, 10x Oculars, Giving resolution power of 10x, plus magnification of the camera. Whilst I have DSLR's with much higher pixel resolution, it is often not required and extends processing time, the 15 mp sensor These two images comprise multiple shots (35 & 24) focus stacked within Affinity Photo. I won't bore you with the technical details, but if you want them you can message (I am happy to share) Affinity has saved me exporting my images to a third party software which has enhanced speed of operation and ease of use, one thing to note is that the Affinity software is not too picky on the order of focus slices presented, which is a major benefit to other rivals. Of course this technique could be useful to many area's of photography including, jewellery for record purposes, medical, veterinarian, instruction manuals and service documents where close up work results in very narrow depth of field. Enjoy your photography and enjoy using Photo. Regards Graham.
  14. HDR merge starts to work, the alignment works but at some point during HDR merge or tonemapping, Affinity Photo shuts down. I am using version 1.8.5 and this is the first time I have used the new version for HDR. I had managed to do one focus merge successfully, but attempting a second one has caused Affinity Photo to fall over.
  15. Independent of "Toggle Source Preview" being ON or OFF, an not wanted/needed Source Layer can not be deleted. The complete Focus Merge process must be done again . May be I am interpreting the trash bin in a wrong way, but what else should it be for...? I also tried to drag and drop the unwanted Focus Merge layer (the blue, selected one) into the trash bin, but this didn't help either... Greetings, Roland
  16. I'm progressing slowly through the workbook and have got as far as the 'mother of millions' project, 'removing Halos' on page 255. Now I'm not familiar with this sort of stuff, I don't know what a halo is or what it should look like, and even with my best specs on, can't see any difference between the images on p255 and 256, which i presume are meant to be before and after pictures. Can anybody give me some pointers at to what I'm meant to be seeing here, please ?
  17. It would be very useful to be able to save also the different sources used in the Focus Merge function, to be able to make the often necessary corrections (halos, alignment errors, ..) in multiple work sessions because it may not be possible to complete the work at the same time.
  18. I've been going through the affinity photo workbook practicing with focus merging but I've been having a problem. Whenever I close affinity photo and go back to work on the photo, all of the images in the sources panel are gone leaving me unable to continue with the project. I made sure I was using the clone brush tool and had a layer selected. Also I looked for a setting about saving those images with the document somehow, similar to the save history with document option, but didn't find anything like that either. Searching through the forums I found 2 other posts with the same issue but they were both from over 3 years ago and had no solution. Any help with this would be appreciated. I am on windows 10 and am using version 1.8.3.641 of affinity photo
  19. Hi affinity photo often crashes on iPad with random tasks, one that ha-pens every time is when I choose multiple raw images from iPhoto’s and try to focus stack them. How it goes is 1. Open affinity photo 2. Click new document with focus stack 3. Select raw images to stack from photos 4. Apply.......shows processing .....then.....crash... no matter how many times u try and no matter how many files u choose even if it’s just 3 files it won’t work. it’s really sad that this happens... also u need to make some way for being able to manually adjust focus stack after its done. In the past once u focus stack the images it shows as just one image in affinity photo. It’ll be great if it comes as layers and then we can manually make adjustments if required..the AI in affinity is not the smartest...😊 FullSizeRender.mov
  20. Is a Source Panel for Focus Merge on iPad on the developer radar? it would be nice to have this ability just as it is on Photo for MacOS?
  21. Hello, I imported series of photos from the cloud to the ipad for focus merge. I have done it in the affinity desktop and thought I'll give the iPad affinity photo a try. What puzzled me is the 'sources' (which you can examine the list of photos that made up the focus merged image by turning on and off the toggle source preview) is no where to be found. The sources is only available when you select the clone brush tool on the desktop version of the software. What I really like to know is where can I find the sources in the Affinity photo IOS version. Thanks. Kelvin
  22. Hi! Problem that Affinity not use all images loaded in Focus Merge. I load 50 images to Focus merge but after processed the outcome has less than the loaded amount wich has a Deep impact in the end result. Seen this issue in a another topic from 2019 but no answer or solution presented in that topic. What is the problem?
  23. I have just purchased Affinity Photo. Results of merging photos, leaves some small black dots and lines on the final images. What could be causing this and how do I rectify the problem? I have attached an example as a picture speaks a thousand words. I am using an old Windows 7 laptop while away form home base. Could this be an OS problem? Thanks. VTJohn
  24. I’m attempting to focus merge on my iPad using affinity photo and the results leave allot to be desired. There is zero ability to modify before or after the photo is generated. There is no sources window!? Unless your program is flawless at outputting an amazing end result (it’s not, ive tried many) then we would need to be able to separately select and modify the photos through the source window, of which there isn’t one. In every image there’s a very clear halo that leaves the images sub par and not useable. so I guess my real question is is there a work around I’m not thinking of or understanding? Is the sources window called something else? Or is there some kind of toggle I’m missing? because honestly I’m shocked that such an important feature would be so half baked and incomplete on an otherwise great app. Having to pull out my old computer just to focus stack is frustrating and honestly ridiculous. I love this app, I use it exclusively now, this has been my first frustration but its a big one for me. Any solutions would be appreciated.
  25. Hi, I'm a new user both to Affinity Photo and SLR cameras. I am trying to merge 2 images (attached to this message) with "focus merge" (following proper steps) When I try to merge the foreground and a background, the foreground never comes into focus after the merge. I have tried adding several foreground images to one background and then the background is not in focus. I have added several of the foreground and several of the background with no luck in a "focus merge". If anyone is so kind enough to download the images and try it, I'm wondering if the foreground image just might not have enough image focused (only a portion of a pine tree branch) On a different note (I think) when doing a several images "focus merge" I keep getting "Affinity not Responding" messages and long delays, then this will continue several times. Thanks for any help, Terry B_Mesa.CR2 F_Mesa.CR2
