Hey guys, I just noticed a strange behavior when using the denoise filter (found in Filters → Noise → Denoise) In my case, I was working with an image which has dimensions of 3264x2448: When using the Denoiser and dialing in quite extreme values for the luminance parameter, the in-app-preview shows me the desired effect, but as soon as I hit "apply", Affinity Photo takes time to render the effect, and after calculating, the result is very different to what the preview showed me. In all of the experienced cases, the final effect is much weaker than the preview showed me. If you have problems to reproduce this behavior, please let me know. I can then provide the image and the steps that make the problem clearly visible. Best regards, Rorando
  2. I'm trying Affinity Photo's (v1.4.2) Haze Removal filter on an Olympus E-M1 raw file (.ORF). The filter seems to have no effect (zero) at all, even though I realize I need to Develop the raw file before I can access the Haze tool. The raw file is recognized by Affinity Photo and opens just fine. But the Haze Removal tool doesn't shows no visible difference. (Note that Photoshop CC and its Dehaze effect works well and works directly on the raw file... no "development" required.) Maybe there's something simple I'm missing, even though I watched the video about this tool a few times and tried to research it's use here in the forum. Thanks for any advice you can give.
  3. I m a fairly new user of Affinity and still learning the many features of the program, but am enjoying the experience nonetheless. There is one area that is causing me some frustration. When I open a raw file (select, File., open and file that I have exported to Affinity specific folder), I can perform most editing functions from the options on the right panel. However, after watching I training video about using a layer and sharpening mask i went to open either "Layer" or "Filter" from pull down menu, but both options were not present. Without a file open, My menu shows from left to right: File, Edit, Text, Layer, Document, Select, Arrange, Filters, View, Window, Help. With a file open the Menu show: File, Edit, View, Window, Help. (see attached screen shot) Of course with the few options I am limited to what I can do. Any ideas? All options on Studio are checked and have been reset, but I understand they relate to the right panel anyway. Any help would be most welcome.
  4. In my example I've got a selection as a separate channel. Then I add a Live Filter on an image. After that I realize that I just want to 'activated' this filter only for my selection, and load it from the channel. Unfortunately, I cannot see a way how to apply this selection to my current filter. How can that been done, without re-adding the Live Filter and set all the details there again? Right-click on a filter and 'Refine Mask' seems to create only new selections/masks. -- Steffen

  6. Hi Community May be this is the wrong forum section to post. Because it's somehow not really a bug, I post it here. Please forgive me if it's the wrong Forum section. 1. Start AP 2. File -> Open -> Media 3. I may only select "Photos" there, I think this is normal. Now for the problem: If I use a "Filter" like "Today" (in the screen shot it's applied as "Heute" in the Spotlight field), even after 7 minutes or so, no photos are listet. With the filter, the "Please wait" indicator is spinning forever: But it should show (manually selection): # of Photos in Library: 27'461 Off topic: And yes, I know, Photos is not worth talking about it. But Apple has unfortunately discontinued iPhoto and Aperture :( And I have yet not found another piece of Software, able to read out the DB of iPhoto and Aperture and adapt it into it's own one, handling everything folder based (including renaming a folder automatically if you rename event or album etc. the piece of Software should offer). When i had use CS6 i used often the oil painting filter to give a "Van Gogh" sensation to my photo. There's something for Affinity? Thanks a lot for your answer :)
  8. When I use the Perspective Filter (a Live Filter Layer) on a text it works as long as the text is 100% opaque. When setting it down to transparency, the text is no longer displayed correct. Under some circumstances the export is also kaput. Unfortunately I cannot upload a file.
  9. Sharpening with an edge mask 1. This is a portrait after RAW conversion with standard sharpening applied to eliminate anti-aliasing from the sensor. The image is sharp, but not tack sharp. I will improve on this by using a sharpen filter in Affinity Photo. The problem is, that the effect is applied globally to the entire photo. Smooth gradients, like the skin will be affected also and in most cases this is not desireable. Therefore, I will show you a way to create an edge mask, which allows to only sharpen the edges and leave the gradient portions of an image intact.

Hi y'all -- I am trying to do in Affinity what I used to do in Photoshop using a "Photo Edges" filter -- to reduce and simplify an image into a set number of colors, in flat areas, in a way sort of like the Obama "Hope" poster but usually not in patriotic colors. Is there a filter like this under a different name in Affinity? I'm sorry to ask for a translation -- with software as complex as both Photoshop and Affinity, it's quite a learning curve.

  14. I cant find anything similar with "color lookup" pre-defined color filter (As you can find in Photoshop) on Affinity Photo. Does anybody know if exists a similar feature here? If not, is it possible to create and save pre-defined automatic color adjustments? Many thanks!
  15. I may be one of the the last to update a software.. yet, I watched the tutorial on haze removal before updating, before I updated. And I can not seen to find the "Haze Removal" under the filter tab. Geez, (Silly me) I apologize. I'm uploading to Aperture on my Mac Book Pro (giggles, a lot of pro and needed more book!).

  17. Hey guys! Today I played around with the displace live filter. It’s a very nice and powerful tool to simulate folds of cloths, but also cracks in walls (like shown in one of the official tutorial videos by Affinity), grainy paper textures and so on … This is my first »tutorial« … ever. If you may call it one. So forgive me for eventual mistakes. Though It’s pretty much self-explanatory and not that hard to follow, I think. ;) Like I captioned the video: basically you want to create a separate image with a greyscale profile (at least that’s how I do it), reduced noise and texture plus a good balance between high, low and mid values. Grey fabrics work best if you want to change the colour afterwards. Maybe this helps, have fun playing around with different backgrounds! ;) Cheers Dennis

    Pixelate Filter Bug

    Here's a small bug with the Pixelate Filter. The filter generates "half or partial" pixels. Let me explain. If I want to generate a pixel image I think pixelate filter shouldn't generate half or partial "pixels". I don't know how the filter works but right now you get left with half squares on the sides of the image. I'd love if this filter could calculate the width of the image and keep subdividing based on that. That way you always end up with squares that line up to the outsides of the image. Hope that makes sense! If not apply a pixel filter to an image... make the quantization large ... and you'll see what I mean. Thanks, Ian
  20. I've been playing around with the vignette filter in AP and am wondering if it is possible to move the clear part of the vignette to somewhere other than the center of the image. Is there some kind of work-around that I can use? Thanks

To reproduce: Draw with the brush tool or otherwise generate a raster layer with some content Using the move tool or the transform panel, add a rotate transform to the layer Run a destructive filter command from the main menu (tested with Radial Blur) Increase the Angle parameter for the filter to have a visible effect With the preview active, click somewhere on the canvas to set the center point for the effect to something meaningful, like the center BUG: The filter preview will now be clipped rectangularly (presumably to a memory manager tile boundary) and not display in the extended area the filter would expand the layer region into. Applying the filter will now briefly show a huge bounding box for the layer, which after a short moment shrinks to the correct size The final rendered result is correct even though the preview was not.
  22. When using the Frequency Separation effect, dragging inside the document view will interactively adjust the Radius parameter. So far that's pretty awesome. However, dragging with the mouse will lead to strange and very erratic changes in value for the parameter. Dragging horizontally in a single direction, it might go down and then up again, which is really strange. I looked at the slider behaviour a little more closely, and it turns out the algorithm currently calculates the radius using something like this: Radius = RadiusBeforeAnyChanges + FixedMultiplier * distance( CurrentMousePos, InitialMouseDownPos ); This means that it is impossible to go lower than the initial slider value. So dragging right will increase the radius, but then dragging back left without releasing the mouse will only decrease the value until the original point where the mouse button was pressed is reached, at which point the distance is going to increase again, meaning the slider goes up again. Values lower than when the mouse was pressed can never be reached since a distance is always positive or zero of course. This is confusing to the user to the point where I would consider it a bug that makes the feature useless. I would suggest that the algorithm detect on first mouse move whether the mouse is predominantly moving horizontally or vertically and then to use that axis like a slider, for example Radius = InitialRadius + FixedMultiplier * DeltaX for horizontal movement. Any movement upwards or to the right would be defined as positive increments, and anything to the left or downwards as negative increments. That way the user could go below the value that the slider had when the mouse was first held down, and it would mean that the value would always change in a predictable and consistent way when the user drags in a particular direction. When going beyond the limits of the slider, it would probably ideally behave in a way that if, say, the slider limit was 1.0 and the user went to the right to the point where 10.0 would be, moving back to the left would then instantly lead to the slider value being decremented again. One possible addition (though that would probably be considered a feature request) would be support for holding down modifier keys to influence the FixedMultiplier so that the parameter could optionally be changed faster or with more fine-grained precision. Sorry if all this sounds a bit confusing.
