  1. Hello, I'm trying to ge a round halftone gradient from white to black, but as soon as ist gets whit itshofe dots again. Can anayone help? Thank you very much!
  2. The "affine transformation" filter does not distort a small object on a layer as expected. The entire layer and not the object is transformed. It is expected that only within the object is transformed and a rotation around the center takes place
  3. Not sure if this is a bug or not but it is very strange to say the least. Try this! Develop a RAW (CR3 in my case) image in the develop persona but DO NOT apply any sharpening, but apply Colour and Vibrance, contrast and Brightness, to taste, some noise reduction but nothing else. Then develop the image. In the Photo persona apply a high pass (live ) filter set to 0.5, monochrome ticked and choose Linear Light Then duplicate the live pass filter which gives you two 0.5 filters. You should see a clear sharpening taking effect. Keep the AFPHOTO file open Now export the resultant image in JPG. Then import the file you just exported back into AFPHOTO so you should have the original and the exported image showing in AFPHOTO. Set both images with Control Zero so they are the same size and compare the two, switching from one to the other. What I am finding is that the clarity and sharpness of the Exported image is noticeably less than the adjusted AFPHOTO image. I thought it was because I was using JPG but I tried TIFF with no compression and then again with ZIP but the result was the same, there is a difference and I just don't understand why? Shouldn't it save exactly the same sharpening that I am seeing on the screen? It doesn't appear to. Anyone got any ideas why?
  4. Considering that one day there may be options to filter search queries by layer/ page/ chapter/ text frame/ column, etc., see: It would be neat to have a batch Find and Replace in which you can add multiple queries for finding and replacing something. That way, you could batch replace various pieces of text, characters (e.g. to do clean up for multiple white spaces and break characters) for particular pages in at once. The way I see this is you could add another Find and Replace query by clicking on a "+" button, which will run after the first Find and Replace has run.
  5. Live warp filter needs to have more options, like follow grid and numeric input for handler points. It's unusable for precise warping.
  6. If the “Apply image” filter is recorded in a macro and as source a layer the opened image is used, the pixel of the layer were recorded and used as the source when the macro is played back. The layer is saved when the marco is recorded. I expected that the relative position of the layer will be used as the source from the open document, corresponding to the document when the macro was recorded, it is reproduceable on new documents. Affinty Photo V.1.10.5.1342, Windows
  7. Selecting the Bilateral Blur option has no effect when the Radius setting is higher than about 50px and increase up to 100px, unlike the Bilateral Blur filter on the same image. Affinty Photo V.1.10.5.1342, Windows
  8. Applying the filter to a layer with areas of full transparency (alpha=100%) fills the entire layer. Expected behavior would be to fill only the opaque areas and taken into account the alpha cannel. The "Preserve Alpha" option would also make sense in the filter. Affinty Photo V.1.10.5.1342, Windows
  9. I have an issue with halftone pattern inside shapes that I can't resolve. If I create a basic shape like a circle or square etc. fill it with a black to white gradient, or a solid color and apply a halftone filter to it. It does create a halftone pattern of the gradient that you would expect. Also adds halftones at the edge of the shape. So it doesn't fade out to white. How can I get rid of the border/edge?
  10. Description In Indesign, you can apply any character or paragraph style and setting to text through a search box (set to ctrl+Enter). This allows for making text bold, align it vertically, horizontally, insert text variables (date of creation/ last save), etc. Note that this is not exclusive to text, and could also be used to alter the appearance of frames and more. Additional options The search window has a checkbox which filters the search results based on categories. These filters are persistant, and will be applied through each subsequent search. Advantages The advantage hereof is that if you work on a book with 10+ character and paragraph styles each (some of which are nested), it can become difficult to memorise keyboard shortcut assignments to each of the styles (especially when there are multiple large projects). The idea here is that, if the styles are named according to a convention, you will only have to type (a part of) the name of the style, hit enter and it is applied to the selected text or text frame. Since it can be used to execute menu items it reduces shortcuts that need to be memorised (and can be forgotten). It is rather quick, as you don't need to search through the application, but instead just type in what you require, which could take as little as a few characters. When typing text, it does not break the flow of typing.
  11. Hi everyone, I still wish there were destructive filters (instead of only live ones). But the reason to this post is to find an efficient way to alter a mask layer using filters. Indeed, a trick I often used to do on Photoshop (but also Krita) is to sharpen a mask layer using brightness/contrast or curve filters. As a mask layer is a greyscale pixel matrix, this should be totally possible. A sample of what a curve on a mask layer could produce : I tried to add a filter under a mask layer - it is possible but nothing happens. However, I've just been trying a dynamic filter (blur, sharpen) and it works on a mask layer ! But unfortunately we can't merge the filter it, so we couldn't re-edit the mask layer afterwards with a pencil. It looks like basic filters on mask layer is a feature not implemented, I wish it was ! Especially as it goes along with the dynamic filter working.
  12. Hello everyone. AP have turned into my new favorite photo editor application that is out there. I've been using since Jan 2020 and it completely replaced the Adobe buggy program. But there's some features that I miss using on AP, like the filter gallery. For those who don't know what is it, it's a feature that can stylize a certain image or layer as you wish, with very specific filters and each one it's 100% customizable. I've read about using "macros" but I didn't get it at all. I really want this feature on AP to finally forget about the PS.
  13. Would be keen if we could filter based on master page. That is, show only the pages that use this master page type. Thanks.
  14. I like to introduce a improved Frequency Separation: I duplicate the Layer 2 times: The bottom one I blurred with the filter Median Blur for example by 10px. With the Filter Apply Image a make the following. I select the top Copy of the layer and load the blurred layer as source, activate formulars: DR=(DR-SR)/2+0.5; DG=(DG-SG)/2+0.5; DB=(DB-SB)/2+0.5; DA=1 to calculate the High frequency Layer. The set the Blend mode to Linear Light to blend it with the blurred layer. The filter Median Blur in comparison with the filter Gaussian Blur, witch is used in the filter Frequency Separation calculate not such halloos at edges in the picture. The High frequency layer is much better to rework with the stamp tool specially near edges, and the luminance was located more on the blurred layer. I recommend following: 1. Add a checkbox to choose Blur Mode in the Frequency Separation dialog. (Gaussian Blur (Standard) and Median Blur (Option). 2. Add Store custom Presets in the Filter Apply Image dialog to store the formulars. I attached a image file with a comparison of the frequency Separation and a picture with the formulars in the Filter Apply Image I used. IMG_Frequenz_sep_Varaints_Detail_2019_09_27_38058.afphoto
  15. About the pixelate filter aka "mosaic" filter on other software, only Affinity has different tone - somewhat hard. But most people prefer soft tone like other software. Would be nice if you could add similar tone as an option.
  16. Found a frustrating limitation of the "command F" to repeat the last filter I just did: it works as expected (again, as it does in Photoshop) allowing me to perform some filter, then repeat the filter I just did by making a new selection and hitting command F. However, it only "remembers" this inside the file I'm working on. If I've got a bunch of files, for example a bunch of faces I want to apply a mosaic to, I have to manually re-select the setting again, slowing me down. It'd be super great if, whatever filter I applied last to any file were available in the "command F repeat" no matter what file I had opened, which is the expected behaivour.
  17. Hello, I'm unable find any documentation about what are these actually doing. I'm working with a bit more precise pixel information and I am interested in the way how these are implemented. 1. At least I want to know according to what these are working (e.g. min/maxed axes from HSL/HSI/HSV/LAB or whatever). 2. Also, after I used the Black & White filter, none of the Auto-whatever actually increased the grey scale values? In my case, half of the dynamic range was exported only. 3. Side, but related question: is it possible to retrieve the min/max values of the raster during the definition of the procedural layer? Thank you and best regards. P.S. Scratch #2. Apparently, Auto-whatever needs to work on merged grayscale (my gray scale conversion was as layer).
  18. instead of simple blur and sharpening for brush. For digital paintings, the brush needs more filters. This will unlock the horror potential of affinity real-time filters. Adobe is powerless to fight back, they don't even have a ture real-time filter (PS Smart (Live) filter is a flawed flaw) This will shatter PS status as a digital painting. (Greatly enriched brush expressiveness) (And with very high performance.) Guaranteed by MacOS gpu drive performance leaps). Windows supports GPU acceleration in the future, Guaranteed by the lead developer. PhotoLine and Krita support this feature, but both lack GPU acceleration. (The lack of GPU acceleration drive this feature is ridiculous, they even limit the brush size at a lower level because of their poor performance) The outstanding performance of affinity easily harnesses this disruptive feature. Even in very high brush size, get lightning-like speed. Redefine the brush filter.
  19. I recently had to re-set Affinity Photo to factory defaults and now whenever I apply a Live Filter Layer it becomes nested under another layer (whichever is highlighted). I used to always have it apply as a separate layer, now I have to manually go and click on "release filter" to get it as its own separate layer. There must be a setting for this in preferences but I can't find it or am I doing something wrong? TIA.
  20. Hi everyone ! I'm testing Affinity Photo and I'm pretty satisfied with the whole. I had a little pain to understand how it works sometimes (because of my Photoshop habbits...) but I got to figure out how to use it. Until... now. There's something I want to do that is very, very simple as just changing the luminance or just colorizing a layer "quick and dirty", and it seems to be impossible... but I want to be sure. So concretely, I have one layer between many others which needs to be altered quickly. I supposed it was on the Filters menu, but I couldn't find any light/contrast, HSL, and those sort of basic filters there. Everytime I searched on Google and in the forum, it was always about a live filter. But... I don't want one - especially because by default it will be applied to all the sublayers and not only the one I've selected ! So yes, the solution is to create a group, put the layer inside then I can create a live filter on top, play with the parameters then merge it. But now I have a useless group layer which I'll have to remove. That is really complicated for nothing, in my opinion. I don't understand why can't we just apply some basic light/color filters in the Filters menu just like the other filters. Or... maybe I missed something, and that's why I'm here. Would anyone have a quicker way ? Thanks in advance for your reply. :)
  21. Hello, This instagramer https://www.instagram.com/ibdansch/ (ibdansch) has a stlye that I like a lot. But I simpley can´t achieve it. Also I have to say that I am a beginner. Could you maybe tell me a tutorial, the name of the style or some tipps & tricks to achieve this? Best Regards Magic Mike, The real one
  22. Unsharp Mask filter is needed since resized image on Affinity is not crisp though Photo has Unsharp Mask to fix it. Unsharp Mask filter option on resize/export would be nice also.
  23. Good day, I found that the preview of applying filters in develop persona is not consistent over the image, the filters being applied partially, please see the attached images. The filter is correctly applied on the exported image, the problem exists in the develop persona, when editing the image. I am using Affinity Photo 1.8.3.180. This bug does not exist on MacOS. Love Affinity Photo, keep up the good work!
  24. I’d like to request a blur tool that varies the degree of blur between paths. Much how contour lines on a map indicate altitude, the path would set the blur radius. Not to be confused with the path blur you get in photoshop; it’s closer to a field blur, but instead of radial points it uses vector paths. I really dislike using masks on blurs as it looks unconvincing. I’ve tried other methods for realistic focal depth on a 2d image (painting my own z-depth, multi layered blurs, etc) but they are quite a lot of effort to make. I feel this method would be the quickest and easiest if only it existed! If this tool already exists somewhere/anywhere, please let me know! I’ve tried to illustrate the idea below (excuse the lame character)...
  25. Windows 10 Home 1903, Publisher 1.7.2.471. When I add a Live Filter – Perspective, Twirl, etc. - to a layer, via the Photo Persona, what I get on-screen is correct – redraw is a bit messy but I can put up with that for now – but when the document is exported to PDF the filter is no longer applied. Exporting to a PNG seems to be fine, exporting to a PDF is where the problem comes in (I haven’t tried other export formats). See attached AFPUB, PDF and PNG for examples showing (clockwise, from top-left) Twirl, Perspective, Voronoi, and Motion Blur. Note: I’ve been told that the same thing applies to exporting to PDFs from Photo but I’ve not tried that myself yet. Note: I've used both Adobe Acrobat and Firefox to view the PDFs and they both display the same way. This was originally discussed here: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/95828-affinity-publisher-how-to-use-affinity-photo-live-filter-perspective-on-text-frame-via-studio-link/ live-filters-in-pdf.afpub live-filters-in-pdf.pdf
